Idk man my dc65 is so old I want it to die so I can buy a new one.
Whatever you end up buying, also consider buying a small shop vac from a brand like shop vac or rigid. * Perfect backup for if the upright fails * A small one is perfect for corners and stairs. * They are also wet/dry which will come in handy when you have a spill or a flood. * They are built like tanks. Practically BIFL. * Relatively cheap. <$50 for a 1-3 gallon model * Unlimited and universal attachments and additions * Optional bag or canister (I suggest bag for dry though) * Swappable filters for different jobs, including HEPA * For a little more you can buy a battery operated one, with good swappable tool batteries instead of built in batteries that fail. ##Besides that: **Overpriced, but worth it** * Miele (if you want top of the line consumer) * Dyson (if you want more attachments and canister style. Mixed reviews, but I have had my DC 65 Animal for 11 years now and the thing is going strong, so long as you do annual maintenance. I bought it because my ex took our DC41.) **Pro Options** * Sebo (Best) * Sanitaire * Riccar * Windsor Versimatic (Best value, it's a rebranded Sebo at half the price) **Lightweight Option** * Orek XL commercial (underrated brand, easily serviceable, very lightweight, relatively quiet, built to last, cons, no hose or attachments, but that's what the shop vac is for)
I still have my dc65 upright animal which is a large heavy model style they donāt sell here anymore (there is an upright āanimalā but itās smaller and lighter). I think I got it in 2017 and I will be running it until it either dies in such a way itās unfixable or I canāt get replacement parts anymore because it is absolutely phenomenal and Iāve never seen any vacuum compare including my v15 and shop vacs and central vacuums.Ā
I've been really pleased with my Dyson dc65. I got a V7 cordless which is also decent but the batteries don't last very long. I thought my wife was nuts back in 2014 when she wanted a Dyson because it looks like it's made out of cheap shitty plastic, but they're surprisingly durable and Dyson is pretty good about making parts available.
I'm on my second Dyson Animal upright purchased in 2018. Still works great. I also have a Dyson stick vac and use it daily for touch ups. I love Dyson.
Wow interesting. We had our Dyson Animal first generation for 15 years with two cats and two dogs. When it broke we bought the next generation one. Fingers crossed it lasts as long.

Newer dysons and shark have tangle free brush bars and there actually work!
Well youāre going to have the same sort of problems with Shark, theyāre worse. Mine wasnāt even meant to have the brushroll removed and cleaned, found that out the hard way. Thatās basic maintenance for a vacuum, especially when you have pets and humans with long hair. Shark wanted me to buy a whole new powerhead, lol. Good thing my dad and I are handy and jerry-rigged the Shark back together. My mom bought two Dysons. A (I think) DC40 then one of the pet ones with a ball. They were both crap too. The switched kept going out, luckily our vacuum shop doesnāt gouge people on repairs. I took my commercial Sanitaire (not suggesting this beast to average consumers), but the amount of sand it pulled out of her carpet was fascinating. So the Dysons were just sweeping the surface of her carpet. Iām sure the people here will recommend either a Miele or a Sebo. Other good vacuums exist too. I mainly collect and repair older vacuums as a hobby. So Iām not the one to ask. I do know bagged is better and cleaner than bagless, and direct air cleans deeper than a bypass machine. Air flow is what cleans, not suction.
Mine is like 8 years old one of the animal ones but itās an upright works great.
I sweep my floors. I also avoid Dyson like a plague. I had two dysons in the good olde days when the animal upright was brand new. Turns out it couldn't cope with my normal hair or my pets' fur. We also had an original upright.. that didn't like my sister sewing.
