Dyson has a great [handheld car vacuum cleaner](https://productbible.com/product/dyson-car-handheld-vacuum-cleaner). its cordless and comes with attachments to get into tight spots like between seats and under pedals.

yeah, it only weighs a few pounds and is a little larger than regular handheld vacuums, so its easy to do spot cleaning with. its much more powerful than the cheaper alternatives too

We got our first stick Dyson vacuum 5 years ago. At 18 months it started shocking your hand in the handle. Bought the newer bigger one, 18 months later same problem.

I have the old cordless V6+ Animal and been using it EVERYDAY for about 3 years now. EVERYDAY.. (Hardwood floors and carpet). Love it. Never had a vacuum as good as this.

I think we have the Dyson v6 and it’s rubbish. Cant comment on the more expensive models but I think it will piss you off if the shark does.

This might get me down votes but I will say it anyways. Getting a popular brand isn't always a bad thing. Why? Because there will be an absolute load of aftermarket accessories and replacement parts. Dyson may have its issues but it's super duper easy to find different replacement heads and replacement batteries. Their warranty is also fairly good, with them sending replacement pieces for free if it ends up breaking within that warranty (I recommend registering any vaguely expensive product you buy immediately after unboxing to make this process a billion times faster. I cleaned houses with my V6 and the only thing that sucked about it (pun not intended) was the battery life. God did I love that vacuum and, despite me using it probably 5 full charges every single day for over a year before I left Australia, it never lost an ounce of suction and was just really reliable. My family now has had two V10s for about 3 years now (thanks to us getting one for our house and one for my sibling before he moved back in when Canadian Tire had them on sale) and it's pretty damn nice to have a quick and wrist-friendly way to vacuum up since we have 4 people, 2 dogs and 4 cats in our home. I 3D printed a handle so you can hold it like a chainsaw and bought a third-party mini upholstery head for them and goddamn does that thing just pull so much sand and dirt out of our carpets. We have only ever killed one powerhead thanks to a carpet that destroyed the bearings and the 3rd party replacement head we got was only $35 CAD and came with a cool light to see dirt and stuff on the floor.

I fully agree with this mindset. I know Miele is often considered the gold standard, but the Dyson handheld is so convenient to use that it makes me way more enthusiastic about performing a chore.

The answer is that you need 2 vacuums: - a handheld (Dyson) - a full size (Miele) I would use the handheld every day to get all the tumbleweeds under the dining table, under furniture, and around the perimeter of all rooms. Then the housekeeper uses the full size vacuum on all the carpets.

You can buy third party replacement batteries. I've done that twice for my V6, which I've had for probably eight years now, maybe more. They're not expensive, either, like $28 on Amazon and they work perfectly and last for years. Replacement is easy, just one little screw that holds it in. The adapter to use power tool batteries is intriguing, but I don't like the idea of not being able to use the wall mount anymore.

I bought a Sebo K3 for a big discount because the shop was getting rid of their floor stock. Wipes the floor with my old Dyson v6. It is big and can be inconvenient sometimes, but it keeps my floors so much cleaner. And with a shedding dog it was absolutely worth it.

Dyson v6 or newer with a Milwaukee m18 battery adapter. The battery reader goes berserk on turbo mode but resets when you put the battery back on the charger. It’s much more compact than the m18 vacuum and combines the best of two worlds. They sell the adapters on Amazon and eBay. Make sure you buy it after you purchase the Dyson and remove the battery as there are a few changes in the internal plastic of the battery that Dyson revisioned and would need the correct to make fit and operate properly.

Dyson - we've had 2 or 3 handhelds. OK day to day for the hard floors and pretty good for carpets occasionally. Fills up quickly and does a better job than our cleaner's vac but eventually bits break. Normally just out of warranty and parts aren't available directly so I end up on ebay. I'm not convinced it's worth the price tag TBH Shark - I'll look at this next time for price point on handhelds Henry - we've had ours for about 15 years. He's done several renovations, sucked up all sorts of horrible stuff including garden waste. That thing is bullet proof and if it eve does go wrong, it's simple enough to fix Miele - I'm going to look at this next time as it gets some good reccos here Father in law likes his Vax

I've never had a miele, but i certainly don't buy dyson because it's convenient. They're expensive as hell. I buy dyson because they work reliably for years. I replace the filters every year or two, and otherwise i just don't even think about them. I have a handheld and a plug in dyson, and they have seriously won me over. There's lots of options that are similar on the market, but i've never found any other vacuum that works that well

I bought the first version of Dyson’s cordless vacuum to clean a 1000 sq. ft. hard floor area. It lasted me 10 years with 2 dogs and a baby.

Dyson handheld is great for small tasks especially after the battery died and I put on an adapter for my Dewalt power tool batteries, lasts a lot longer now! We have an corded Shark convertible upright for around the house but it’s awful in so many ways. Tries to do lots of things and does none of them very well. When it dies we’ll get a sebo or a miele. We have a hetty for any DIY stuff but we’d never use it around the house as it’s filthy!

That’s just not true. I had a V6 whose battery lasted for over six years. I finally bought a new V15 detect because my V6 got so incredibly gross. But it was still running just fine.

It's very lightweight and extremely powerful for its size with good run time. We live in a large old house with 3 kids and a pet. I have a 15 year old Miele which is fantastic, but I'll be damned if I'm going to drag that thing up and down three floors regularly. Our Dyson V6 is 8+ years old and still going strong. It does 90% of the vacuuming because it can be easily picked up to spot clean a specific area and does a good job of it. Yes, it requires a bit more maintenance (cleaning) than the Miele, but it also doesn't require bags that are several dollars each, and again, most importantly, makes vacuuming a LOT easier.

It's great at it's actual job - vacuuming! It's not built to as high quality as the Miele - but at actually pulling stuff off the floor? It's fantastic.

I had a Dyson "stick" type vacuum. It didn't last nearly as long as the price tag suggested it should. The out of warranty repair cost was 75% of what a new one would cost so I chucked it. I replaced it with a **Hoover ONE PWR** at half the price of the Dyson. I've had it longer than I had the Dyson and it's still working great. It comes with 2 batteries so one lives on the charger, the other on the vacuum. Means I've always got a full charge. The Dyson battery was internal so you can't swap out a battery if it dies on you. I would avoid anything that's not a brand name. Before the Dyson there was a generic Amazon no-name special vacuum that I used once, packed it back up in the box, and sent it back. Absolute junk. Bad suction. Just bad all around. Some of them may be fine but I don't trust the Amazon reviews on the no-name ones. They have a "Fieety" brand stick vacuum for $159 with nearly 1000 reviews averaging 4.6 stars. Is it good? You'd think so. But I still wouldn't take a chance on it. Ironically, the vacuum I bought and have had nothing but good luck with has a very low rating on Amazon (only 3 reviews though), but it doesn't matter as it's no longer available since it's such an old model.

I love my Miele. I’ve only had it about 8 years, but my parents has lasted over 25 years at this point. I also have two Dyson sticks and they work great

I also used my Dyson stick vacuum for my 1000sf house, cleaned weekly plus as-needed clean ups. It’s still going strong 5+ years later. I’m only going to replace it because my ex took it in the divorce.

Second all the other Dyson votes. I like the stick ones. Mine sheds consistently so the lightness and suction power makes it easy to do a few quick pickups a day vs long, thorough cleans that last all of 2 hrs. I've also heard amazing things about Miele on the r/BIFL sub with people raving about it's effectiveness and longevity.

I’ve had a dyson stick vacuum for about 3 months now, and while it works great now, i can already tell this thing’s days are numbered. i love the convenience of it, but next time i’ll inevitably need a vacuum i’ll probably do a little bit more research instead of buying what’s on sale at costco.

I bought my mom a Dyson stick 5 or 6 years ago and other than the battery it's still like new. Bought a $20 battery on Amazon last year and it runs like a champ. That being said, I recently bought a shark for much less money and it runs longer and sucks better.

We have a Miele, a Dyson stick vac, and a shark robo vac. We use them for different purposes, but all have their place in our house. Miele came first though almost 10 years ago and it’s never had any issues.

+1 Miele and Sebo vacuums are really really fantastic. They are on a different level of ability to vacuum. But they are not nearly as convenient, and unless you really really love vacuuming, a really good vacuum that is ridiculously convenient is going to be used a lot more than an even better vacuum that is less convenient. The Dyson stick vacuums are so convenient that you end up using it more, and you therefore end up with a cleaner place and more enjoyable living experience.

Coincidentally I did a lot of vacuum research recently. Here's a few things I learned. 1. Get a bagged vacuum. The convenience of bagless is a lie. The dirt ends up building up on the inside of the vacuum causing it to not work as well and for more of the dirt to be blown back into the air. Most people dont know that you should also replace the filter yearly which costs about the same as a box of bags for the year. And with bagged, you dont to worry about cleaning the vacuum so often or as thorough cause the dirt is in the bag. 2. Vacuums advertised as per vacuums are the same vacuum in a different colour and marked up. It's marketing. As long as it comes with a brush roller that is easy enough to detangle and clean out, you're good. 3. Cordless are really only good for quick jobs. When doing a good proper vacuum you want something that isn't gonna die on you halfway through especially on carpet that you gotta go over a few times because of the lovable floofs. A good pick is one with a long ass cord and is retractable with a push of a button. My commendation would be to get a Miele. There's a good deal at Costco for the Miele complete. As soon as I got ours and tried it, I laughed at our stupid stinky Dyson stick.

I love all the ryobi products i've purchased except for this. Bought to replace a dyson stick and it was far worse and we returned it. Clunky, loud and poor suction. Ended up fixing the dyson stick vacuum

We never tried the shark. Ultimately, we bought some aftermarket parts for our dyson and it works good as new. I love the dyson stick vacuum for quick pickups. We also have a Miele for the whole house

I've replaced like every part except the motor in my Dyson stick vacuum over the last 10+ years and it works great. Being able to get cheap replacement parts is a huge benefit

Dyson stick vacuum cleaners are the easiest to use and the best design for domestic use  IMO.   I had a miele in the past, and dragging around a cleaner on little wheels and replacing bags is terrible: I don't care how long they last.

Got an eight pound riccar that is a beast. Use it for most of our cleaning on a weekly basis on carpets and rugs. Dyson portable for daily cleaning around kitchen

I have a Shark upright at home. Love it. Used a Dyson stick cordless vacuum for the first time at my sister's house last week when I was watching her dogs. The thing would not suck up the bigger chunks of dog hair on hard floors bc the head sits too close to the ground, so it ends up pushing bigger debris out of the way. I kept having to lift it up then drop it on top of the chunks of hair to suck it up. Sometimes it would kick the dog hair out instead of sucking it up. I was l getting so mad and was very tempted to drive 20 minutes to my place for my Shark.

I have a Dyson cordless stick vac. I really wish I'd bought one years ago. Soooo easy to vacuum without the cord, and it has great suction. I spent about $600 for mine. It's really hard to get one that does a decent job for $350 or less.

My Miele is 15 years old , has some paint scratches but works fine otherwise. This is the main vacuum. I also have Dyson cordless stick and that thing already on replaced bin ( original cracked) and third party batteries. As much as stick convenient in area without available outlets I don’t like that thing. Third thing I use almost daily is robot vacuum. I have pets and it makes life easier.

Never thought I'd feel so strongly about a vacuum, but I love my dyson.  It's the cordless stick version.  After 5 years, the battery started to get weak.  We just replaced that with an off brand battery and it works like new.

Yes, being cordless and effective for what I need. They have HEPA filters, at least mine does. The no bag is a feature for some of us not a defect. It's all a tradeoff. For some the tradeoff for cordless, no bags, good suction, etal means we vacuum more than we otherwise would. I dont make a mess emptying it vs making a mess swapping bags - cause I overfill it. That's a me thing but it's a consistent me thing and I dont have to worry about it with the Dyson. I never would have thought I'd defend a near $1,000 cordless vacuum but I got one as a gift and will never buy anything different now.

I have the rechargeable #2 on the list Dyson stick and I LOVE IT! If you have carpeted stairs, it’s no challenge dealing with those. I live in a 2700 square foot cookie-cutter tract house. First floor is laminate with an office that has carpet. Then there’s the stairs which leads to 5 carpeted bedrooms, two tile bathrooms, a laundry room, and a walk-in carpeted closet. I can get all of that done one charge.

I would never buy a Dyson if it wasn’t for Costco and their lifetime returns. We’re on our third Dyson cordless. They work well when they work, and then eventually they break. Maybe Costco gets cheap ones.

Cordless Dyson if you have hardwood floors. If our girl was ever on carpet I’d get a corded version but the run time on the cordless is sufficient and not having a cord to mess with means I actually use it

same here for the Shark Plug in model. the amount of dog hair / ETC it can get out of the carpet vs the Dyson Cordless cannot be compared. For purely hard wood / laminate (or very little rug or carpet) Dyson cordless stick vac is IMO is plenty. Good enough run time, and not heavy or unwieldy.

Literally buy it for life. Sweeping is an everyday job and with the Dyson, we vac the hard floor everyday for a few mins and get on with life. Worth the $2xx after rewards.

I regret my Dyson; you still have to clean the heads periodically because of the amount of cat hair that clog up the works! It’s light and manoeuvre able but it was very expensive and I wonder if an old schlol vacuu bag canister would be just as good and way cheaper

The sharks are half the price at least and have nearly equal weight profiles as Dyson. Dyson warranties on cordless are just as garbage as everyone else's. Really need to talk to vacuum specialists that take care of vacuums and do maintenance for years. Not reddit consumers who never clean the filters, brushes, or tracks not to mention reviewing vacuums that have only been around for a few years

I've had my cordless Dyson for 5 years now. I can never go back. You just need to make sure you take it apart and thoroughly clean it every 6-8 months depending on use. The ease of vacuuming with it makes me despise cord vacuums. I can never go back. Imagine trying to water your plants around your entire house with a hose versus a squirt gun that put out like a hose.

I’m sorry, the cordless Dyson isn’t that great for carpet/rugs so I wouldn’t rank it that high. The attachments are excellent for their specific uses like couch/mattress, the nozzle for corners but I have the old school Dyson Ball vacuum cleaner and it’s sooo much better for rugs. Vacuum’s with cords for the win!

I just took my cordless Dyson to the dump. Maintenance nightmare.

I work in shops, and Dyson cordless vacuums are revered. Need to vacuum up sawdust and aluminum chips and plastic shavings and metal filings? The Dyson will do it. Sharks and similar seem to break in a month or two. The power tool branded vacs are tougher but don’t work as well. The only downside is the batteries, but you can buy a DeWalt or Milwaukee adapter and never worry about it again.

My Miele corded vacuum has lasted for over almost 15 years. Some of the attachments look worn down, but they still work very well. I also have a Roomba and a Dyson cordless vacuum, but I don’t feel like it’s a fair comparison, since battery packs degrade over time. I’ve had to replace the battery pack for the Dyson, and my Roomba seems like it runs out of juice noticeably faster than before.

I have cement floors (we mop once a week/once every two weeks) and \~1100 sqft. We used to have a cordless Dyson which I liked but it broke after \~4 years. I'm willing to spend that kind of money again (\~$500) if needed but also always down to save money too. Any recommendations?

I have a cat and she sheds a lot! 😹 I used to have a Dyson but I hate to hold pressing the power button all the time. I love my LG.

I really wanted to love the Dyson cordless vacuums, but I couldn’t get over having to press the button down the entire time vacuuming. Plus, the stick vacuums are a bit top heavy as well so it just felt super awkward to maneuver. It could just be because my hands are super hypermobile and so it’s ridiculously uncomfortable. I’m researching other cordless/stick brands.

I bought a Dyson cordless vacuum in 2018, so far no issues but then again it’s only been going on 7 years. But I’ve been spoiled by cordless vacuuming, especially since my house was built in the 20s and has few options for outlets.

Yeah I had a piece crack on my cordless Dyson when I dropped it, and they sent me a replacement no problem. While I was on the phone with them, I mentioned the battery was draining pretty fast and it wasn’t sucking as well as it used to, and they sent a new battery and filter as well. Also, it was outside the warranty period, so I was pretty happy with the customer service.

hahah not sure how acurate that analogy is, but I love it. as I love my dyson, never in my life am I going back to corded vacuums

Out of all the cordless I’ve had, Dyson was good. LG was bad. More recently I’ve seen the Ryobi recommended

My cordless Dyson lasted 3 years. Recently got a new corded vacuum not worth having to replace every 3 years vacuum cleaners should last 20

I know vacuum fans/experts hate Dyson, but my Dyson has been working great and it actually makes me want go vacuum. I don’t like dragging a cord around. It’s easy to use, my kids can use it too, they love it and take turn to do it.

I have a lower end Miele as my main vacuum and have had it for 10 years and it is like new... however I did supplement with a Dyson cordless for awhile and it went through a battery every year and I had to replace several broken plastic bits on the cannister.... also those make a mess when you try to empty them..... No cordless vacuums are BIFL.... HOWEVER we did get a Samsung Bespoke Jet cordless vac 2 years ago and I love that thing. Pricy for a cordless but it is way better quality than the Dyson and has a charging base that also contains a vacuum/bag that sucks the dirt out of it into a bag... so completely mess-less. It also has two batteries that can be swapped in seconds like a power tool. The second battery mounts to the dock in a second charger. It is also quieter than the Dyson and the Miele.

Get yourself a quality bagless stick vac. Super convenient to use, you'll find your house way cleaner because you'll use it way more often. Dyson would be my choice.

I'm on year 5 or 6 of my Dyson... biggest complaint is the battery seems to not last as long... plenty of use with pets.

We’ve had our cordless dyson for 5 years but it’s honestly not the best compared to a rainbow or other brands at this point in its life.

I pull both Mieles and Dysons out of the trash. These days I only grab the cordless Dyso9ns, but in the past have done the upright models. They are usually work after cleaning up. Maybe half the cordless examples I get need a new battery.

In another life I was a Kirby service tech and I serviced machines on a number of occasions > 40-50 years old. At the time they had parts available for all machines. They ARE expensive (and the sales process leaves a lot to be desired) but are generally built like tanks. If there's a weak point, it's the fan. Even if it is Lexan, hard/heavy enough debris (eg bolts) can shatter the blades. The nice thing about the design is that instead of putting the bag inline with the fan, the bags fill from the top so it's able to maintain airflow. We have one (though it was a gift) but generally use our Dyson cordless day to day.

Honestly as an ex appliance engineer, the cordless Dysons are great for use but terrible when something goes wrong. We used to just write them off if it was anything more than a blockage. Dyson are also very difficult to deal with to get parts etc.

I didn't mean consumer end I meant b2b they were difficult to deal with i.e. sourcing the parts for the customer and general support.

I’m surprised to see you say Dyson is difficult for parts. I’ve been buying their cordless vacs for 10+ years and any time I need a part they either overnight for free or they charge a fair price.

I’ve only had 2 over the 10+ years. Someone broke my first one and then I replaced it with a newer model.

I just asked about how often I’d be buying bags for a sebo with two high shedding large dogs, (similar probably too a gsd and 3 (if long hair cats) I would probably be replacing the bag every week. (Actually more than that because I didn’t tell people I also have 3 cats haha) Someone with a husky commented that they replace the bag 1.5-2 times a month. Calculating that cost for two dogs is another 210 a year in bags (probably more for me) I am taking that into account with  replacing a vacuum that died (Dyson) but it doesn’t have a bag or a Sebo that has a 10 year warranty but I will have probably bought 2-3 dysons in that time period with the amount I’d be spending on bags. I haven’t decided yet 🙃 but thought I’d share the numbers.
