I got a used V7 "Allergy" model advertised as "needs battery" ... it would operate for a bit and then turn off for overheating (it wasn't clear if this was the battery or the motor). While the "Allergy" filter filters the air exiting the unit, I removed it and found that the reduced resistance greatly extended the run time of the bad battery. HOWEVER, I looked at, tried tapping and shaking the allergy filter and nothing would come out so I had assumed it was fine but, think about it, over the course of a year if your mother did a lot of vacuuming how much air it actually ends up filtering. When you have a real "allergy" rated filter on a vacuum it puts out air with less particulates than the ambient air. Changing the battery and the filters (the one on the back and the conical one inside the centrifuge) I have what seems to be a new vacuuming experience. :) If she's using it multiple times a day then it might not be a surprise that it lasted for a year ... but the battery/filter replacement is pretty cheap if you get a combined battery/filter(s) replacement online. Mine was \~$25.
if you're at all a DIY person, then here's what I did. I spotted a V7 (with charger and all accessories) on FB Marketplace for $40, offered $30 and they accepted. It needed a new battery and filter which I got from Amazon for \~$25. It runs great, amazing cleaning power ... not sure about the battery life though since I just use it for a small area but for a total of about $55 I have very convenient access to a quick clean-up!
Any reasonably priced stick vacuum will be great. I’ve used 180$ one from Kogan, which does feel abit cheap and plasticy, but it works great and I’m happy with it. I’ve also used Dyson v7 which is around 600$ I think and it probably is abit better but it’s so damn expensive
Vacuums. Hoover is a brand of vacuum cleaner. I'm a long-term user of a Dyson V7 for the quick jobs and a Henry for the larger areas.
We have a regular corded vacuum but we also have an 8 year old Dyson V7 cordless handheld vacuum that is so handy especially for quickly sucking up what we call "tumbleweeds" from our reddish haired golden doodle. I highly recommend these quickly cleaning up almost any dry mess.
My Dyson (v7 I think) actually worked pretty well when we lived in a townhouse similar to yours. The main downside imo is you won't be able to do the whole place without recharging. This sub also recommends against bagless and cordless generally speaking, and I agree that they're worse. But the cordless are easier when you're constantly going up and down the stairs
Depends on the situation as well. When I lived in a condo with hard floors the Dyson was great. Now that we live in a bigger house with a lot of carpet, wed have to charge it twice just to do the basement decently. Also had to warranty/purchase knockoff parts 5 items in the 6 years we've had it. Still great for small areas though
I have an older V7, and I put a V8 battery by mistake. Outcome: bigger battery but is a bit tight getting in the charging dock. Cost like £30. Really easy to change.
>Does the fluffy pickup cat litter on hard floors? Our old V7 did just fine with that. I used to think Dysons were overpriced, but ours has gotten the job done.
We accidentally ended up with 2 Dyson V7’s in the house and they’re both shit. So unreliable, not good performance when they are briefly working and just generally a lot more fuss than they’re worth.
