Had my Dyson V7 animal for 4 years and for the last year we haven't been able to use the full power setting. If we do, it shorts out and needs a full recharge. Such garbage.
Yeah I had a v7 animal+hepa stick vac break . They told me use what’s app we store all logs so no repeated sharing of info etc. next tech will be up to speed. They told me covid—don’t have parts for 3 weeks. Waited 1.5 months and nothing. Get back in touch and they want me to diagnose all the parts again to see why it’s not working if it’s the head or the base or the stick. I told them I did this before already it’s the head and they still wanted me to go through it again until I told them I used a multimeter and it’s the base. “Okay, it’s going to be 3 weeks until we get the parts in and then we’ll get in touch with you.” This is the same exact thing I said last time without ever get in touch with me or having anything on record about my case. I started flipping out. I asked to speak to the manager and I was like this is bullshit. I’m supposed to be vacuuming every day. My cats have fleas right now and I’m about to have a baby in like two months and you guys are sticking me around for 2 1/2 months now telling me I gotta wait for parts again I want a new vacuum just give me a new one if you don’t have the parts replace the vacuum. The lady started to argue with me about it, and I said you guys are selling fucking fans for 700 $ and are giving me shit about replacing a 200$ vacuum I’ve owned for 3 months and in use for 1. I’m gonna tell everyone how much Dyson sucks and go get a bissell. They shipped that shit out immediately
I love the vacuum but yeah the first one broke quick quick
We have mostly hardwood and tile floors. But some large area rugs too. Also a few cats. We had the Dyson 7 animal for about 7 years. It was lightweight and easy to use. It didn't make vacuuming feel like a chore. But it took about 8 months for the first battery to die and I have replaced the battery with a cheaper Amazon battery many times. I also have to take the entire thing apart every 4 or so months and clean it. Then let it dry and reassemble. It's a pain in the ass. Eventually the vacuum will struggle picking things up and it's time to take it apart again. Buy and replace new filters. Had to replace the main brush compartment. The stick vacuum was a pain in ass. Just purchased a $130 Kenmore intuition and I love it. It feels like more work because it is heavier and you have to wrap the cord up each time it gets used. But it's a much better vacuum and I suspect will have much less maintenance. The Kenmore also vacuums up much much better than the Dyson. The Dyson's suction is weak in comparison and it honestly feels gross to think about all the dirt and stuff the Dyson wasn't picking up. The greater suction of the Kenmore actually makes vacuuming quicker an I don't have to move furniture around because it will suck crumbs around crevices etc where the Dyson did not. I don't see myself going back to a stick vacuum.
I got a used V7 "Allergy" model advertised as "needs battery" ... it would operate for a bit and then turn off for overheating (it wasn't clear if this was the battery or the motor). While the "Allergy" filter filters the air exiting the unit, I removed it and found that the reduced resistance greatly extended the run time of the bad battery. HOWEVER, I looked at, tried tapping and shaking the allergy filter and nothing would come out so I had assumed it was fine but, think about it, over the course of a year if your mother did a lot of vacuuming how much air it actually ends up filtering. When you have a real "allergy" rated filter on a vacuum it puts out air with less particulates than the ambient air. Changing the battery and the filters (the one on the back and the conical one inside the centrifuge) I have what seems to be a new vacuuming experience. :) If she's using it multiple times a day then it might not be a surprise that it lasted for a year ... but the battery/filter replacement is pretty cheap if you get a combined battery/filter(s) replacement online. Mine was \~$25.
if you're at all a DIY person, then here's what I did. I spotted a V7 (with charger and all accessories) on FB Marketplace for $40, offered $30 and they accepted. It needed a new battery and filter which I got from Amazon for \~$25. It runs great, amazing cleaning power ... not sure about the battery life though since I just use it for a small area but for a total of about $55 I have very convenient access to a quick clean-up!
i have the same question as OP, and im sick of dyson, i have the V7 animal origin and it has failed in so many different ways, even my older dyson has outlasted it.
yes. dunno what you mean but corded, its the stick one so its only corded when charging. the battery has failed 3 times, now the button doesnt work and even when it did, it turns on and off
I got a V7 Animal something on special at Big W years ago and it's still doing really well. This thread is making me concerned about when I'll eventually need to replace it. Lol.
