If you buy a cylinder cleaner (Henry/Hetty, Miele, Sebo) you'll also need a rotating brush head for the carpets. In my opinion cylinders are good for above floor cleaning and hard floors. Worth looking for refurbished machines. Henrys are definitely cumbersome which will only gets really annoying in tight spaces and when it gets stuck round corners. You can get longer hoses or extension hoses. Henrys use friction fit 32mm tool attachments which are very cheap. They're simple machines and usually last a long time. Their carpet brush, the 'Airo brush' is noisy as it's air driven. Older bagged cylinder Mieles are well regarded, very well made. You must use Miele bags and filters or the motor will ingest dust and fail prematurely. Their clip fit tools are expensive. You can get Mieles with electric brush floor heads for carpets. I repaired a Dyson UP22 (their recent corded upright) upright a few years ago that had a split hose, the plastics are creaky but it's really good on carpets and hard floors. Uses Dyson clip fit hose attachments. Spares availablity is really good and fairly cheap. You'll need to wash and fully dry the filters regularly. Worth looking for refurbished ones.

I forgot to suggest to look at refurbished Sebo Felix uprights (bagged cleaner). Better quality than a Dyson and it doesn't need filters to be washed every month. Replacement filters and tools can be pricey and that's probably the only negative. Would be ideal for your carpets and hard floors.

That’s what I thought, too. Here’s my math on that: I spent $1k on my Sebo in March. I added up the cost of the 3 Dyson vacuums( I’ve had since 2017) and the parts I’ve had to replace = I should have bought a Sebo sooner. Models I’m literally placing on the curb tomorrow for whoever wants them. I’ve had it with Dyson’s cheap plastic crap: The upright Dyson (2021), V6 (2017) replaced with V11 (2022). All have had their brush heads replaced. 2 of the 3 are broken again. Not sure what’s wrong with the upright, again. We don’t even use them heavily, I have cleaners in once every 2 weeks. It’s absurd.

I think you should take your wife to a vacuum shop and see if she can try some vacuums. Maybe she will end up liking a bagged vacuum. I'm telling you tho the bagless ones have been crap. The Dyson one I've been using which I thought was good was crap. I will never go back to bagless.

Dyson’s bagless models are pretty decent and the attachments cover a lot of bases. Shark is a more budget friendly but less durable manufacturer, but still quality for the buck.

I'll be honest I had the bagless Miele and it kinda sucked (in that it didn't suck!), my bagless Dyson is much better. If I were to get another canister Miele it'd have to be bagged.

You want a bagged vacuum. I've had a Dyson, a Bissell, a Dyson knock off, the LG A9, the Miele Duoflex - all bagless and all very loud. My cats will scatter if I turn them on. My bagged Miele on the other hand... they don't even bother getting up from their naps.

Henry. Used a couple of dysons/bag less after they’d been retired for an upgrade in the house vac. Polyfilla dust, brick dust just kills them eventually.
