"They always miss the entire point of a dyson, which is completely convenience. ... I don't want to lug around a bagged vacuum, I don't want to have to plug it in, dyson retains the build & performance but makes it cordless and quiet."

My Dyson v11 still running strong and the amount of crud it picks up is insane compared to a lot of other brands I have had in the past - Shark, Hoover etc. Miele is overhyped.

My Dyson v11 is 3 years old. Broker trigger, then staying on, then the canister latch broke. Plus various cracks in the handle close to the battery. The performance is great, the quality is shit, customer support is just a L on the forehead, a raspberry and a middle finger. I already have a miele c3, I love the dyson's washable filters and performance, but such shitty plastic and generally low quality for that price is unacceptable. I'm also looking for a good stick vac that doesn't tangle with long hairs and has decent washable filters but am trying my best to avoid Dyson.

My first Dyson was from 2015 and lasted 6/7 years. I have one now too and it works great still. 🤷‍♂️ people on reddit hate on Dyson but it picks up my Husky’s fur so good, I’m paranoid of trying others. I think my Dyson is the V11. Just gotta remember to plug it back in when you’re done using it. I have tried a few Shark vacuums and they never work as well.

I have a v11 and two cats, had this dyson for the past 4 years and had the cats for 3 last year it started having issues, was intermittently stopping hubby deep leaned it, worked great for 2 days and went back to it's usual issue. I think the dyson simply cannot hold up against the animal fur. I would have to vacuum the carpet areas multiple times and still was not satisfied with how it was after. I'm annoyed cause I spent so much money on a vaccum that didbt even least me 5 years. We are going to try the miele c3 from Costco. Idk it is getting furrier here by the day, send help!

They’re all good. I think the Dyson V8 is the cheapest one. But by cheap I mean it’s still like $450. I have an old V8 and a newer V11 which is kind of in the middle for their cordless ones. Stronger suction, but even the V8 is fantastic. And I’ve had it for years and years. They’re crazy expensive but worth it. I’ve never had a Dyson break, ever. I have one of their upright ball vacuums and it’s been going strong for over a decade. As long as you open it up and clean it periodically they’ll last forever.

V11 and later versions of their cordless perform ok for thick carpets. You have to open the front gates to relieve pressure. If you have a lot of carpet, you have to learn to stop cleaning your entire home in one go. If you really want a Dyson, I would personally only get the Ball Animal 3 for your thick carpets. It also works really well for hard floors. You should watch Vacuum War's review on it to see if it fits your needs. DO NOT get any other version of Dyson uprights, they are horrible and only work on very specific types of carpets. Otherwise, a Sebo upright is my next recommendation if you don't mind bagged.

This sub should be changed to r/neveradyson I have a v11 and it works fine on my laminate floors. I’d buy another one. Battery life is a little less than it was when new but completely fine for the job I need it to do. If I had a lot of carpet I’d consider a plugin. As it stands not having to lug granny’s cannister up and down three flights of narrow stairs is a win for me.

First a not on self empty systems. They are sort of a gimmick. Firstly, they usually can do a basic empty of the container but they are not effective at cleaning the internal filters of the stick vac, that still has to be done really regularly yourself. And many self empty systems are themselves bagless, which means you have an additional 2 or 3 filters to clean. Bringing the total maintainence burden up to 2 dust containers, 2 mesh screens, and up to 5 or 6 filters you have to clean every couple weeks yourself! In other words, they're often more trouble than they are worth. Secondly, no cordless vac is going to match the suction and durability of a corded vac. With that in mind, and if you're good with it lasting about 5ish years, here's what I'd look at. Models from LG, including their own self empty model which at least uses bags, so there's nothing to clean on the station. Dyson have a pretty poor reputation for reliability now, but if you can tolerate very poor customer support, models like the v11 are still decent. V8 is a good more budget end choice. Miele duoflex or triflex models are great choices too, better quality than the others I think with good performance, but pricy and with fairly small bin capacity. Avoid no-name or bizzarely named models on Amazon, avoid bissell, hoover, dirt devil, shark, tineco, etc.

My advice is to go to maybe a Dyson Demo Store and try it out for yourself before you buy, people say they don’t last but the reality is they do if you take care of them, like washing the filter every month, empty after every use, don’t use it on max mode constantly, etc and it’ll last a long time without issues (unless you install the filter back wet or wash any parts you’re not suppose to, and bash it about everywhere) Personally I find Dyson okay People here will tell you the Sebo and Miele are like legendary best options but in my opinion tube are overrated. I own a Dyson V11 and 2 Sebo’s, (Sebo x1 and Sebo X7) (I use to have a Miele but I hated it) Don’t get me wrong, the Sebo is an EXCELLENT vacuum and picks up really well, however let me tell you it STINKS after a few weeks and you’d just change the bag but bags aren’t cheap for them and you can’t reuse the old ones so you’d wanna wait until they’re full before disposing, and yes I did try vac freshens, both from Sebo and from Amazon and non of them lasted very long before the bad smell came back My Dyson v11 is pretty good, picks up a decent amount and doesn’t really smell since I wash the filter every month in a bit of warm water with a cap full of [Zoflora](https://www.ocado.com/products/zoflora-midnight-blooms-concentrated-disinfectant-595014011) of which does come in quite a few different scents But if I were you, I’d try before you buy

While there are valid criticisms of Dyson, there is an anti-Dyson agenda that is easy for any onlooker to see among quite a few frequent commenters on this subreddit, so I would not expect to get a response that does not have a bias. For example, "reviewsvacuum" commented that the V15 is internally the same machine as the V10, which is completely false. Some folks tell themselves fibs like that enough to where I think they believe their own untruths. If we make up things about Dyson while trying to sway people not to buy them, does it help or hurt the intended cause? Anyway, if you have no corded or cordless preference, my first choice would be the [Ball Animal 3](https://www.costco.com/dyson-ball-animal-3%2B-upright-vacuum%09.product.4000179573.html). It may not be everybody's cup of tea, but it is powerful and versatile for an upright and you never have to worry about replacing batteries as they degrade or the charge running out. The bin is also much bigger than a typical cordless vacuum cleaner. For cordless, it depends on your flooring type. If you have lots of carpet, I would suggest getting one that is more powerful, with the V11 and V15 being notable examples. I would only grab the V15 if you want the extra features such as the dirt sensor and laser. If not, the V11, although the V15 is more powerful, is similar in cleaning ability, so it may be considered the better deal. If you have mostly hard floors, the V8 would even be fine, although it lacks the user-friendly battery swapping that the others mentioned have, which is a big deal as batteries degrade or if you want to stock up on batteries for more run time.

Why don't you want a stick vacuum? I was dubious about them until I bought a Dyson V11 in about 2020. I'm still using it today, it's still exactly as powerful as day one and with a good enough battery to do my whole house on a single charge, hardwood living areas with rugs and carpeted bedrooms. I'd never go back to a corded/drag around vacuum. The only issue I've had in 5+ years is a snapped trigger, which was a known design issue and has been fixed with an improved part I replaced myself. I have a short haired dog, but I'd trust it to deal with long haired pets as well.

Some fair criticisms. I'll counter but I respect there is subjectivity involved in this. I don't agree at all with points 1 and 2, my V11 absolutely outperforms any prior corded vacuum I've ever used and is not at all heavy or fatiguing - I find it much easier than lugging around a heavy wheeled unit. I won't say it's the best performing vac in the world, I'm sure some of the really expensive fancy brands perform awesomely. But it deeply cleans all of my rugs without an issue, without needing to touch the boost function. Point 3 and 4 are I suppose fair but is easily worth the trade off for dealing with bags for me. Point 4 doesn't bother me, I just empty with the nose into the bin which is in a drawer but even if I had to walk outside to empty it I'd still easily choose that over dealing with bags. Point 5, you're absolutely right the trigger was a design fault on mine, but in 5+ years so far of bashing it around it is the only part I had an issue with and the replacement is reinforced in the weak spot (and only cost about $20) so is unlikely to ever reoccur. I paid $800 for mine and I expect to get many more years of service out of it, so I don't view the build as a problem. My model doesn't flex under its own weight. It is an extremely capable vacuum that is a joy to use.

Fair enough. I got a free charge stand with mine, and it's easier to store than a drag around vac but I get it. The battery is literally never a concern for me, it can do the whole house on one charge and it's easy enough to use that you can do the house in sections without it being a hassle too.

I have a few Dyson cordless (V8, V10, and V11). I don't think they are worth anywhere near retail price, and I've only ever bought mine on Marketplace for well below (still NIB). The trigger on my V11 broke, but I managed to install an aftermarket replacement that I got from Amazon. Aside from that, they've worked well for me. However, I am only ever sweeping dust and dog fur from hardwood and tile. It's probably the easiest job for a vacuum. These are lightweight machines for lightweight use. Basically just very expensive "dust busters." I've never owned one of the corded models.

The laser head is so fun to use. We have 2 cordless Dysons and they get regular use with our 2 dogs and 7 cats. No complaints whatsoever. Had the V11 for a while now and the laser one is more recent. I think some people don’t realize the vacuums themselves need cleaning once in a while - like rinsing off the filter and taking the rollers off to clean them.

I just returned the Dyson V11 despite the fact that it had the strongest suction power of any cordless vacuum we've tried, and it's because of the trigger, which also makes it difficult to maneuver. The fact that they haven't created a vacuum with an on and off button is pretty ridiculous. Not worth $400+.

I just got the v11 plus for $399 on sale. It definitely has better suction power than the v10. So I wouldn't pay that price for the 10 whatsoever. Either way, I'm returning mine. Even though the suction power is fantastic, it's hard to maneuver (likely because it suctions so well) and hate that it doesn't have an on and off button like other cordless vacuums. Instead, you have to press the button the entire time as you're vacuuming. That, combined with it being top heavy, makes it a no-go for me. Search Vacuum Wars videos on YT for recommendations.

I think I have the V11 which was around the $300 price range & was the best for animal hair at the time. I would do a little research on each model to see what works best, but honestly I’m sure whatever the latest model is will be the best one. I love all the attachments it comes with & GOD the amount of hair it picks up<3 i had two cheaper vacuums break down on me within a year because of how often I would need to use it. I spent the money & have no regrets because now I only need to vacuum once a day (I have 2 heelers & 3 cats) & spend half the time I would with a typical vacuum. Also, they have an attachment you can use on dogs with thick coats. I personally don’t have one, but I’m sure it works well for grooming purposes.

I would look into a Dyson, I have a V11. I don’t have plush carpet so I unfortunately can’t attest to how well it would work on that type of floor surface. But they are powerful vacuums and their anti-tangle brush head has been an absolute game changer! The ragdoll fluff used to constantly wrap around the brush on my old Shark vacuum, I was cutting fur out of it after almost every vacuum session. The Dyson brush head stays virtually clean.

From the reviews and the treatment I have received from Dyson, I will not be buying another Dyson product again. I have owned the Dyson V11 for 6 months and it started having filter issues, wouldn't turn off, and then a burning smell. I contacted them and they sent me a new main body & cyclone and it also would not turn off after I turned it on. They then said I could drive to a service center to have it looked at or they could send me a return label by email and I would have to find or buy a box to return it to them in. They said after they received my vacuum it would then take 15 days for them to send me a new one. Their process does not put the customer first or make them feel whole in the matter.

Dyson batteries are low quality from what I've seen to begin with. Our v8 absolute that we bought years ago didn't make it two years before it'd last 5 minutes in low. For the price, they have things about them that make them worse than a lot of the competition such as poor build quality and single cyclones. As for cordless, Dyson and LG, and sometimes Samsung, still make the leading mainstream ones in the United States. For Dyson, the V11 to current models are the best on carpet. The V8 is affordable, but lacks the run time and overall power to do a stellar job on carpet, at least in my opinion. Something such as the V15 smokes the heck out of a V8 and even a V10. Even the V12 is decent enough and good if you want something little and lightweight while still being powerful. I have a lab and I use the Dyson v11. Cordless, light weight. Good for hardwood and carpet. It has a handheld attachment that I love for couches and the boost suction is great for carpets. I even roll over his dog bed and it gets so much out of the small fibers.

That’s why I don’t understand the hate. I had to replace a seal because I tried pulling the old one out using a knife like a dipshit to clean it and cut it. Called Dyson and they sent me one free of charge despite it being my fault. I think I spent $400 on my V11 which broke down to a yearly cost of $80 so far and it’s still going strong. Why would I waste money on one of the other suggested brands that do the same thing? If I followed Reddit’s advice, I’d be spending $2000 on a canister vac I’d have to lug up and down the stairs.

AMAZON. Buy the DYSON stick/handheld combo v11. It's expensive but you will love it and it will last you forever. Yes - it's twice what you want to pay - but you get what you pay for. AMAZON you can do payment plan so it can be like $26.66 for X months or whatever and the best part is - you can buy replacement parts for under $40ish dollars. I have replaced battery, brush attachment, stick attachment, etc. - they are amazing. I don't mean to be too much of a nerd - but it's designed so well, it's a joy to vacuum 2x daily (concrete floors/live at the beach with a long-haired GSD, I vacuum constantly). I know the cost is a factor and it's a lot - but think of how many Shark/Hoover/Generic you will buy in 6ish years (I have had mine for 5). I already told my Mom and Sisters - 'this will break and I will perseverate on whether or not to spend the $$ - remind me of this convo and tell me to shut-up and just get it.' I literally LOVE my vacuum. Do the payment plan. You will love it - it's a dream/works so well. I am shocked (kinda disgusted at times!) at how much it picks up. (Also - it has no bags/you just pull a lever and it dumps the canister.)

I had a Dyson "stick" type vacuum. It didn't last nearly as long as the price tag suggested it should. The out of warranty repair cost was 75% of what a new one would cost so I chucked it. I replaced it with a **Hoover ONE PWR** at half the price of the Dyson. I've had it longer than I had the Dyson and it's still working great. It comes with 2 batteries so one lives on the charger, the other on the vacuum. Means I've always got a full charge. The Dyson battery was internal so you can't swap out a battery if it dies on you. I would avoid anything that's not a brand name. Before the Dyson there was a generic Amazon no-name special vacuum that I used once, packed it back up in the box, and sent it back. Absolute junk. Bad suction. Just bad all around. Some of them may be fine but I don't trust the Amazon reviews on the no-name ones. They have a "Fieety" brand stick vacuum for $159 with nearly 1000 reviews averaging 4.6 stars. Is it good? You'd think so. But I still wouldn't take a chance on it. Ironically, the vacuum I bought and have had nothing but good luck with has a very low rating on Amazon (only 3 reviews though), but it doesn't matter as it's no longer available since it's such an old model.

I've previously had a Shark Upright and now have a Dyson Stick. I think both are fine. Honestly the biggest thing that made me go with Dyson over Shark for my current vacuum is being able to maintain my vacuum. When looking online and in store it was hard to tell how I would clean the regular floor head myself with the Shark, while the Dyson is incredibly simple. Even the filter on the Dyson is washable, I don't have to replace any disposable parts all the time. If I can't maintain and clean my own cleaning tools they're doomed to be replaced sooner.

The problem is not that the battery runs out during normal use, it's that EVERY SINGLE TIME you use max suction mode, it shortens the life of the battery. The user manual might say to only use max suction mode in short bursts, but it still doesn't change the fact that max suction mode is so bad for the battery that it shouldn't even be an option.

I can say the Miele C1,2, and 3 bags or like $45 for the XL ones and it’s 8 bags or for you, a year supply. though you might only go through 5-6 cause they do compact the dust pretty well. And it comes with 2 pre motor filters and 2 post motor filters. So you get to change it’s primary filter every time you change bags, the pre motor filter which is what keeps the motor clean and running for a long time every 4 bags and the post motor filter which is the the last stand filter for anything that might have made it through every 4 bags. Also air flowing through a MERV 13 filter several times is the equivalent to a hepa filter cause they filter the same .3 micron particles and hepa filters 99% and MERV 13 filters 75-85%. So this would be close if not better than “hospital grade filtration.” And if you must they sell a hepa grade post motor filter as well for most models. So bagged would be great for your needs, and for an extra $45 you get a machine that will last at least twice if not up to four times as long as any baggless vacuum. I also own a Dyson stick for the past 2 years and my dad owns a Dyson animal ball for the past 15 years and they work pretty darn well. Shark might not last as long but the don’t leak dust either and is cheaper from what I’ve seen so its also is a viable option. Best of luck!!

I also have pets and got a Miele C1 Cat and Dog. The suction is fantastic, but due to the fur tumbleweeds and tracked in dirt, I vacuum every other day or so. For that I find myself reaching for my backup Dyson stick - the canister is just too much of a pain for a quickie rug pass. Miele is the weekly “CLEAN ALL THE THINGS” tool. So if you are a chronic vaccunmer, I’d suggest either getting a Miele (or comparable) stick vac, or if you go canister, get a cheap backup for quickie fur jobs.

Dyson isn't what they used to be. I use one of their sticks at work. It was great initially but I've been watching it literally fall apart over the last few years (first the dust canister kept coming apart, then one of the wheels fell off, then the button that holds the stick in fell off). It gets a little abused, but it's not exactly tossed around. The suction is good. Everything else leaves something to be desired. Your money is probably better spent elsewhere.

Go to Walmart and buy the Hart $100 stick vacuum. I have had 2 dysons and while they're nice the batteries are trash. I have tried factory and cheap replacements, and not much difference. Bought a cheap Walmart one for the garage and it worked great. Battery lasts forever. It works so well that the Dyson has gone to garage and the hart stays in the house. I've had it for 3 years now, still original battery working just fine. I'd get a year tops out of a Dyson battery. Dyson wins the looks award, but Hart beats it in performance.

Yes, being cordless and effective for what I need. They have HEPA filters, at least mine does. The no bag is a feature for some of us not a defect. It's all a tradeoff. For some the tradeoff for cordless, no bags, good suction, etal means we vacuum more than we otherwise would. I dont make a mess emptying it vs making a mess swapping bags - cause I overfill it. That's a me thing but it's a consistent me thing and I dont have to worry about it with the Dyson. I never would have thought I'd defend a near $1,000 cordless vacuum but I got one as a gift and will never buy anything different now.

They gave me a whole new vacuum after 10 mins because they didn’t have a matching color brush head and didn’t want to send me home with a purple and yellow vacuum. When my cordless Dyson stopped working they did the same thing. Sharks and similar seem to break in a month or two. The power tool branded vacs are tougher but don’t work as well. The only downside is the batteries, but you can buy a DeWalt or Milwaukee adapter and never worry about it again.

We have Dyson, Miele and Henry. Dyson cordless is the best for daily convenience but not so good for a deep clean and it's quite high maintenance with all the charging, emptying, filter washing, getting hair off the brushes etc. Miele is solid and the suction is bonkers but I wouldn't use it for building work etc as I want to keep it nice. Henry is the work horse for cleaning the log burner, mud, brick, sick. You can chuck anything at him but he falls over a lot.

We have the shark vacuum others have mentioned, a Roomba, and a cordless Dyson 😅 I still feel like I'm struggling to keep up with dog hair. We just got a new Dyson, but the shark vacuum is 6 years old and still working fine. I do have to replace or clean the filters pretty often though. Edited to add the shark one we have is the navigator.

> The anti-Dyson sentiment in places like a vacuum sub always feels like sock puppets shooting them down to promote their own brand or people just being opposed to what is popular. This and "enthusiests" in any given segment will be willing to give up convenience and performance. They always miss the entire point of a dyson, which is completely convenience. I don't want to lug around a bagged vacuum, I don't want to have to plug it in, dyson retains the build & performance but makes it cordless and quiet.

Miele is the best but for ease a dyson cordless is good - maybe the pet hair one. I have both- dyson for small jobs and Miele for big jobs. After i upgraded the dyson battery it works better than ever after 6 + years.

They are dotted around the house: One Shark, one Dyson cordless (on its way out), one Dyson corded. I think there's a second Dyson somewhere, but I use that to suck up spiders and gravel. And a Eufy robovacmop thing. Edit: and a Vax carpet cleaner.

I really wanted to love the Dyson cordless vacuums, but I couldn’t get over having to press the button down the entire time vacuuming. Plus, the stick vacuums are a bit top heavy as well so it just felt super awkward to maneuver. It could just be because my hands are super hypermobile and so it’s ridiculously uncomfortable. I’m researching other cordless/stick brands.

I love mine, a Dyson. It lives in our pantry and I use it multiple times a day. It’s definitely not meant for heavy duty vacuuming, I still like a regular old plug in one. But it’s SO nice for a quick clean up with two toddlers and a dog.

I bought a Dyson cordless vacuum in 2018, so far no issues but then again it’s only been going on 7 years. But I’ve been spoiled by cordless vacuuming, especially since my house was built in the 20s and has few options for outlets.

I bought a Dyson cordless a few years back and the first week I had it i new it was a mistake it will only stay charged long enough for me to do one room I call Dyson and they said that was the way it was the battery  only last about 15 minutes  a waste of money I bought a sharp I can leave it off the charger for one day and go back the next day and it is still charged amazing how much a Dyson cost and not worth a dine and a sharp half the price and ten times better  I would never recommend a duson

4 years for a vacuum is terrible value for money ae. Expectations are so low these days for product longevity. Dyson are supposed to be the most premium vacuum, and it lasts about a year before it starts going down hill. After that you have to buy cheap Chinese battery adapter's to even use them. The filters are impossible to wash, and suction is below average.

Yeah I had a piece crack on my cordless Dyson when I dropped it, and they sent me a replacement no problem. While I was on the phone with them, I mentioned the battery was draining pretty fast and it wasn’t sucking as well as it used to, and they sent a new battery and filter as well. Also, it was outside the warranty period, so I was pretty happy with the customer service.

I agree. We have a Dyson and it gets used every day for little spills here and there. Occasionally it’ll take it out to the car for a quick vacuum because… kids. The battery life is abysmal though. I’ve heard great things about the Shark cordless.

I literally just finished vacuuming with our Miele. We have 3 kids, 2 cats and a dog and this thing is the goat. I also have one of those cordless Dysons, which are good for spot cleaning here and there, but if I run the Miele immediately after the Dyson, it still picks up dirt! They go on sale sometimes, too. I bought ours from a small local vacuum place in BC called Big Gary’s Vacuums. They were matching the sale price at Costco.

I think you have had some trauma from older vacuums regarding batteries. Modern vacuums will last double that without losing too much power. It is no different than laptops. Those batteries used to die or be useless in 3-4 years but these days 5-6 is easily achieved, same for phones, and vacuums aren't discharged and recharged nearly as often. To illustrate, my 4 year old Philips vacuum has lost 0 of its charging capabilities. And while I agree that Dyson has good suction, they are reliability nightmares. I had two. I replaced the first after 3 years because it just stopped performing and no amount of cleaning did anything to change that. The second developed the same issues in about 2 years. I managed to convince support to send me a new motor but by then I was so pissed off with the brand (expensive and unreliable are a hateful combo) that I will never buy Dyson again (much of their stuff looks fancy but are outright scams). My Philips 8000 is as mentioned 4 years old and it has lost some of its suction power but will run about 40 minutes on a charge, same as when I bought it. Not super enthusiastic about the suction performance going down in 4 years but it has been better in pretty much every way compared to the Dyson (which refused to hoover up any of the cat litter on the floor eventhough it had much better suction, and it was FAR quieter too). Never again Dyson. Look up Dyson and Scam on Youtube and watch a few vids before you buy anything.

I have a lower end Miele as my main vacuum and have had it for 10 years and it is like new... however I did supplement with a Dyson cordless for awhile and it went through a battery every year and I had to replace several broken plastic bits on the cannister.... also those make a mess when you try to empty them..... No cordless vacuums are BIFL.... HOWEVER we did get a Samsung Bespoke Jet cordless vac 2 years ago and I love that thing. Pricy for a cordless but it is way better quality than the Dyson and has a charging base that also contains a vacuum/bag that sucks the dirt out of it into a bag... so completely mess-less. It also has two batteries that can be swapped in seconds like a power tool. The second battery mounts to the dock in a second charger. It is also quieter than the Dyson and the Miele.

I got Dyson and I love it. she does hard and soft floors, she’s light enough for cob webs, car cleaning, you can lower the suck so if you spill crumbs at night it’s quiet. you can get unbranded acsessories so I got alsorts of things to help clean cars, keyboards, I got clips for the tube to hold more nozzles, I got a big bendy tube so stairs is a breeze. the filters are washable, I got a load of unbranded so I can swap them out more often. any breakages you can buy most spare parts online which is super handy also you just twist the end and the rollerbar pops out which makes long hair cleaning so easy. I used to hate sitting on the floor with sicciors cutting hair off the bar. I don’t miss trailing cables or the bulk of the Hoover.

In another life I was a Kirby service tech and I serviced machines on a number of occasions > 40-50 years old. At the time they had parts available for all machines. They ARE expensive (and the sales process leaves a lot to be desired) but are generally built like tanks. If there's a weak point, it's the fan. Even if it is Lexan, hard/heavy enough debris (eg bolts) can shatter the blades. The nice thing about the design is that instead of putting the bag inline with the fan, the bags fill from the top so it's able to maintain airflow. We have one (though it was a gift) but generally use our Dyson cordless day to day.

Honestly as an ex appliance engineer, the cordless Dysons are great for use but terrible when something goes wrong. We used to just write them off if it was anything more than a blockage. Dyson are also very difficult to deal with to get parts etc.

I have a cordless dyson for 7 years. The battery crapped out halfway through but the batteries for powertools(which we have) also fits. So we use those. Now I dont know if the original battery is shit or not because I dropped the vacuum mulitple times so that might be my fault. But hey after dropping it so many times, it still works!!

There’s no single vac that does it all except for maybe a super heavy super expensive traditional canister like a Miele. For an everyday hard floor vac (and light carpet vac) the best is Levoit on Amazon that's about $200. It's a Dyson-like machine that overcomes a lot of the longtime design issues with Dysons (such as, it can stand up by itself -- what a concept). But we also keep the Dyson around for a more aggressive carpet vac when we need it. We also have a Eureka boss -- powerful and dependable small canister vac. And a monster shop vac in the basement. Dysons are great but they're really expensive and their air filtering system is overly complicated and tends to lose efficiency. If you own a Dyson, watch all the available Youtubes on how to clean it with pressurized air so you can keep it running. Given the competition from newer manufacturers like Levoit, I think it's going to be harder for Dyson to justify selling floor vacs for close to $1000.

I just asked about how often I’d be buying bags for a sebo with two high shedding large dogs, (similar probably too a gsd and 3 (if long hair cats) I would probably be replacing the bag every week. (Actually more than that because I didn’t tell people I also have 3 cats haha) Someone with a husky commented that they replace the bag 1.5-2 times a month. Calculating that cost for two dogs is another 210 a year in bags (probably more for me) I am taking that into account with  replacing a vacuum that died (Dyson) but it doesn’t have a bag or a Sebo that has a 10 year warranty but I will have probably bought 2-3 dysons in that time period with the amount I’d be spending on bags. I haven’t decided yet 🙃 but thought I’d share the numbers.
