"I think I spent $400 on my V11 which broke down to a yearly cost of $80 so far and it’s still going strong. ... Why would I waste money on one of the other suggested brands that do the same thing? If I followed Reddit’s advice, I’d be spending $2000 on a canister vac I’d have to lug up and down the stairs."

Bought this one yesterday from JB Hifi. Charged overnight. Used it this morning. It has 3 power settings, I used it on the highest power setting. The battery lasted 16 minutes. Good suction, the vacuum head is a bit larger than my usual vacuum, which means it doesn't go under the side of the couch

I have a Dyson V8 and a V11 Torque handheld on fake wood floors right now. They were good for the hair but TRASH at picking up litter. Probably would be better picking it up off carpet.

Only on V10 and v11 screw in types otherwise Dyson triggers don’t break. Performance is there - quality is questionable. Heaps of maintenance needed. I am the dyson reddit mod and a Dyson business owner.

I just returned the Dyson V11 despite the fact that it had the strongest suction power of any cordless vacuum we've tried, and it's because of the trigger, which also makes it difficult to maneuver. The fact that they haven't created a vacuum with an on and off button is pretty ridiculous. Not worth $400+.

I just got the v11 plus for $399 on sale. It definitely has better suction power than the v10. So I wouldn't pay that price for the 10 whatsoever. Either way, I'm returning mine. Even though the suction power is fantastic, it's hard to maneuver (likely because it suctions so well) and hate that it doesn't have an on and off button like other cordless vacuums. Instead, you have to press the button the entire time as you're vacuuming. That, combined with it being top heavy, makes it a no-go for me. Search Vacuum Wars videos on YT for recommendations.

That’s what I thought, too. Here’s my math on that: I spent $1k on my Sebo in March. I added up the cost of the 3 Dyson vacuums( I’ve had since 2017) and the parts I’ve had to replace = I should have bought a Sebo sooner. Models I’m literally placing on the curb tomorrow for whoever wants them. I’ve had it with Dyson’s cheap plastic crap: The upright Dyson (2021), V6 (2017) replaced with V11 (2022). All have had their brush heads replaced. 2 of the 3 are broken again. Not sure what’s wrong with the upright, again. We don’t even use them heavily, I have cleaners in once every 2 weeks. It’s absurd.

I like mine a lot, but the biggest thing that bothers me is the battery. It doesn’t last quite long enough to vacuum my living room, kitchen, and back room. And it takes like 5 hours to charge. So vacuuming takes planning and I can’t get it all done at once anymore. My next vacuum will be a ryobi cordless.

My Dyson v11 is 3 years old. Broker trigger, then staying on, then the canister latch broke. Plus various cracks in the handle close to the battery. The performance is great, the quality is shit, customer support is just a L on the forehead, a raspberry and a middle finger. I already have a miele c3, I love the dyson's washable filters and performance, but such shitty plastic and generally low quality for that price is unacceptable. I'm also looking for a good stick vac that doesn't tangle with long hairs and has decent washable filters but am trying my best to avoid Dyson.

Dyson Renewed from eBay for a fraction of the cost of a new one. I've purchased 2 over the years. They look and work like new. Easy to empty. Easy to keep clean. No bags. No belts. v11 series will do my entire ranch home w/o recharging. Battery is replaceable when it finally gives up. Very light. Easy to maneuver. Pretty darn quiet.

If you want Dyson I’d go for V11 instead. A bit cheaper and isn’t as “smart” as V15 so less things to go wrong . But this is a wrong place to ask about Dyson as people here will tell you Dysons shit and been making crap vacuums for more than 30 years soo

There’s a large amount of extremely biased people here sadly. Obviously Dyson isn’t nowhere near the best vacuum in the world, but it also isn’t the worst as it’s made out to be here. If you can get it on sale at a good price I’d deffo go for it. Tried many makes and honestly when it comes to cordless I think Dysons the best. Yet again people here will tell you there the worst cause they’ve read stories from people complaining when most of the time problems are caused by users not machine.. or that they fix loads of them, with majority probably trashed by customers.. Henry quick is supposed to be good but I find it extremely heavy and bulky, definitely not a great handheld vacuum

I work in appliance shop in UK and the only problems I hear with Dysons are batteries that need replacing which is something normal with all cordless. If you use vacuum on Max power, battery will last even less, again same with all cordless not just Dyson. Some say vacuum doesn’t pick up but mainly because of people neglecting maintenance, you ask them if they clean filter and they don’t even know it had a filter. Hardly any returns.. yet I hear stories that people have had their cordless for 5, 6 years even without any part changed. People here will tell you they only last 2 years.. But again cordless Dyson won’t be a great vacuum as your only vacuum cleaner if you have kids and pets .. you’d still need some corded vacuum to go with it

I have a house and a couple rental places and we have v11s at all of them. I live them. They get all the dirt and dust bunnies. They don’t pick up dog hair really well, but honestly, the best way to get after that is a big lint roller on a stick. Those work great. You can go around your house with the Dyson and a couple attachments and get everything done in one charge.

AMAZON. Buy the DYSON stick/handheld combo v11. It's expensive but you will love it and it will last you forever. Yes - it's twice what you want to pay - but you get what you pay for. AMAZON you can do payment plan so it can be like $26.66 for X months or whatever and the best part is - you can buy replacement parts for under $40ish dollars. I have replaced battery, brush attachment, stick attachment, etc. - they are amazing. I don't mean to be too much of a nerd - but it's designed so well, it's a joy to vacuum 2x daily (concrete floors/live at the beach with a long-haired GSD, I vacuum constantly). I know the cost is a factor and it's a lot - but think of how many Shark/Hoover/Generic you will buy in 6ish years (I have had mine for 5). I already told my Mom and Sisters - 'this will break and I will perseverate on whether or not to spend the $$ - remind me of this convo and tell me to shut-up and just get it.' I literally LOVE my vacuum. Do the payment plan. You will love it - it's a dream/works so well. I am shocked (kinda disgusted at times!) at how much it picks up. (Also - it has no bags/you just pull a lever and it dumps the canister.)

My first Dyson was from 2015 and lasted 6/7 years. I have one now too and it works great still. 🤷‍♂️ people on reddit hate on Dyson but it picks up my Husky’s fur so good, I’m paranoid of trying others. I think my Dyson is the V11. Just gotta remember to plug it back in when you’re done using it. I have tried a few Shark vacuums and they never work as well.

Honestly this sub is a bunch of vacuum snobs. I have a v11 cordless and it gets used daily for 3+ years and I bought it refurbished.  It's one of the best purchases we've made for the house. Convenience wise we use it so much more because you don't have to plug it in so overall our house is cleaner than when we had a plugin only. It is good enough for 95% of your cleans My house gets vacuumed with a plugin shark 1/month.  The amount of junk the v11 picks up is surprising. If you have long shag carpets or rugs that is where the plug in vacuum wins.

I have a V 11 and I think it has a good place in my home for a quick cleanup here and there. I’ll never buy another one though because I had horrible customer experience situation with them and also it’s so gross to me the way that you cannot clean them. If they made them so that you could take it apart and clean it every so often I would buy another one. I feel like they do that on purpose so you basically buy a new one every couple years.

I think the dyson simply cannot hold up against the animal fur. I would have to vacuum the carpet areas multiple times and still was not satisfied with how it was after. I'm annoyed cause I spent so much money on a vaccum that didbt even least me 5 years. We are going to try the miele c3 from Costco. Idk it is getting furrier here by the day, send help!

They’re all good. I think the Dyson V8 is the cheapest one. But by cheap I mean it’s still like $450. I have an old V8 and a newer V11 which is kind of in the middle for their cordless ones. Stronger suction, but even the V8 is fantastic. And I’ve had it for years and years. They’re crazy expensive but worth it. I’ve never had a Dyson break, ever. I have one of their upright ball vacuums and it’s been going strong for over a decade. As long as you open it up and clean it periodically they’ll last forever.

V11 and later versions of their cordless perform ok for thick carpets. You have to open the front gates to relieve pressure. If you have a lot of carpet, you have to learn to stop cleaning your entire home in one go. If you really want a Dyson, I would personally only get the Ball Animal 3 for your thick carpets. It also works really well for hard floors. You should watch Vacuum War's review on it to see if it fits your needs. DO NOT get any other version of Dyson uprights, they are horrible and only work on very specific types of carpets. Otherwise, a Sebo upright is my next recommendation if you don't mind bagged.

Same here, our battery became useless 2 months outside of warranty. I was despairing at the thought of needing a new one so quickly but ready to say eff it when my partner was doing some reasearch to trouble shoot the problem and stumbled across the adapters. We only have laminate and tile flooring so don’t even need the turbo. Regular vacuuming (at least weekly plus a couple of times a weeks near the kitty litter trays and a battery charge will last a month easy. If it goes flat, we have the Makita adaptor and if that does run out halfway through a clean, we just grab a spare from a tool to finish the job. We have since shared this info with friends and family who all had the same issue. Recently I saw someone selling their Dyson online because of this problem and I shared a link for the adaptors so they took theirs off the market.

Still, you should have gotten a lot more time out of the Dyson. My partner watches a dude on YouTube (unfortunately now deceased but really dry delivery) who reviewed all the Dyson’s, his name is Woopnik. He is awesome. Check him out as he is fun and by sharing this info hopefully his widow still gets a few $$ for the views. As a kid, my folks had a Hoover that lasted 15 years but only changed due to the weight. They then bought a Miele that lasted 10 until they stopped selling the bags to fit. My first “grown up” job was trying to sell Kirby’s. Quit on day 2 after I was scheduled for a complimentary carpet clean for an elderly woman/pensioner in housing trust who had custody of her granddaughter. G’Ma admitted that her granddaughter had asthma and per the script, I capitalised on that. Halfway through getting to commit to a payment plan over a few years for a few thousand, back in the mid 90’s, she wept silently and said “Okay, I can miss meals every other day if it makes my granddaughter healthy”. I broke down (I was only 18) in tears, explained to her that I was going off a script and no, she did not need this. It was a sales pitch of fear that I was trained to do. With my old flip Nokia (pink of course), I called Kirby and told them I quit, to come collect the company car, keys would be underneath. Then i called my ex to ask him to pick me up. While I was waiting, G’ma gave me scones and as a long time asthma sufferer, I offered advice about keeping windows slightly open for fresh air, wash sheets weekly and vacuum the bed with her regular vacuum at the same time.

First a not on self empty systems. They are sort of a gimmick. Firstly, they usually can do a basic empty of the container but they are not effective at cleaning the internal filters of the stick vac, that still has to be done really regularly yourself. And many self empty systems are themselves bagless, which means you have an additional 2 or 3 filters to clean. Bringing the total maintainence burden up to 2 dust containers, 2 mesh screens, and up to 5 or 6 filters you have to clean every couple weeks yourself! In other words, they're often more trouble than they are worth. Secondly, no cordless vac is going to match the suction and durability of a corded vac. With that in mind, and if you're good with it lasting about 5ish years, here's what I'd look at. Models from LG, including their own self empty model which at least uses bags, so there's nothing to clean on the station. Dyson have a pretty poor reputation for reliability now, but if you can tolerate very poor customer support, models like the v11 are still decent. V8 is a good more budget end choice. Miele duoflex or triflex models are great choices too, better quality than the others I think with good performance, but pricy and with fairly small bin capacity. Avoid no-name or bizzarely named models on Amazon, avoid bissell, hoover, dirt devil, shark, tineco, etc.

Oof, classic Ryobi bait-and-switch. It is great for tools, terrible for vacs. If you’re looking for real performance under $500, start with LG CordZero, Tineco A11/A15 Hero, or a used Dyson V10/V11. If battery cross-compatibility isn’t a must, just get a vac that actually vacuums.

My partner and I moved in together. Due to this we have the following: - Dyson V11 - Bosch cordless vacuum - Bosch canister with bag - Central home vacuum The Dyson doesn't work any better than the 180 euro Bosch cordless. The only advantage is the brush, other than that its had way more problems and is more flimsy. We'd not buy a Dyson again under any circumstances.

We bought a Dyson V11 and I have mixed feelings about. It’s great for a quick vacuum around the dining table or kitchen, but it struggles to pick up a lot of stuff - birch leaves that come in from the garden, small stones in the porch from our shoes, hay from the guinea pigs, hair from cutting the kids’ hair. It’s been quite disappointing frankly. We have a 20 year old Henry that we use to clean up after the Dyson. My advice to OP would be to get a Henry for each floor of their house!

I highly recommend getting a refurbished one for much cheaper or even a used one for cheap. The new prices are kind of outrageous. There's a website called slick deals where they have the v11 on sale with a 2-year warranty as refurbished by Dyson for $250. This is a good deal! Just make sure not to drop the thing and to always leave it laying on the ground when not in use as they are very plasticky and can break. And don't use it on its high setting unless really necessary as it deteriorates the motor and battery life. And remember to clean the filters roughly once a month I don't recommend the V10. I recommend either the V8 for how lightweight it is or the v11 for its easy empty function. I would not recommend the V12 because it's connections and accessories aren't interchangeable with other Dyson V-series vacuums. Same with any other "slim" variants. Also note that the V6 had completely different attachments than all the other models. I' own three Dyson stick vacuums and recommended them to family and friends and they all love them as well. In my opinion, the V8 was an excellent combination of good suction, lightweight and cheap. Also starting with the v11, some variants of the v11 have click-in batteries that you can easily exchange with another one. But most of the v11 series has permanently affixed batteries that you have to remove with a screwdriver. Also want to add the vast majority of this subreddit is against Dyson vacuums and they're pro corded bagged vacuums. No need to pay more for the laser soft fluffy head when you can get a laser attachment on Amazon for like $20. Or AliExpress for like $5 I believe the best one is named "Bahuun dust cleaner display led" I definitely would not recommend paying a lot more for the v15 or Gen5. The benefits do not outweigh the increase in cost in my opinion.

My advice is to go to maybe a Dyson Demo Store and try it out for yourself before you buy, people say they don’t last but the reality is they do if you take care of them, like washing the filter every month, empty after every use, don’t use it on max mode constantly, etc and it’ll last a long time without issues (unless you install the filter back wet or wash any parts you’re not suppose to, and bash it about everywhere) Personally I find Dyson okay People here will tell you the Sebo and Miele are like legendary best options but in my opinion tube are overrated. I own a Dyson V11 and 2 Sebo’s, (Sebo x1 and Sebo X7) (I use to have a Miele but I hated it) Don’t get me wrong, the Sebo is an EXCELLENT vacuum and picks up really well, however let me tell you it STINKS after a few weeks and you’d just change the bag but bags aren’t cheap for them and you can’t reuse the old ones so you’d wanna wait until they’re full before disposing, and yes I did try vac freshens, both from Sebo and from Amazon and non of them lasted very long before the bad smell came back My Dyson v11 is pretty good, picks up a decent amount and doesn’t really smell since I wash the filter every month in a bit of warm water with a cap full of [Zoflora](https://www.ocado.com/products/zoflora-midnight-blooms-concentrated-disinfectant-595014011) of which does come in quite a few different scents But if I were you, I’d try before you buy

I commonly see the claim that cordless vacuum cleaners cannot clean carpet adequately. To be clear, aside from the claim being entirely too general, there is no study or test that has proven that they do not clean carpet or hard floors effectively. In fact, we have reason to believe the opposite through observable performance. I think it is about time we stop peddling false or misleading claims on here. It takes away from valid criticisms of modern cordless vacuum cleaners. With that said, there are cordless stick models that are up to the task in performance and some that are not. I would avoid cheap, no-name ones off Amazon, for example. Most of them have the power of a DustBuster and are of shameful quality. There are some brands that are worth a look, though. If you can find them for something in or near your price range, Dyson makes the V8, V10, V11, and V12 that would work for your situation and be relatively close to your price range. Costco sometimes has great deals on them. The older models like the V8 and V10 fall quite a bit below the newer ones and some other brands in suction and airflow, but should be fine with hard floors and area rugs. LG cordless vacuum cleaners are also solid next to the competition, with models such as the CordZero and CordZero Kompressor that are on [LG's website](https://www.lg.com/us/vacuum-cleaners). Samsung also has an intelligent design department and sells powerful models such as the Jet 75, Jet 85, and Jet 90. I am partial to the LG models since I have more experience with them and they seem to hold up to abuse fairly well, but Samsung sells a fine unit too.

While there are valid criticisms of Dyson, there is an anti-Dyson agenda that is easy for any onlooker to see among quite a few frequent commenters on this subreddit, so I would not expect to get a response that does not have a bias. For example, "reviewsvacuum" commented that the V15 is internally the same machine as the V10, which is completely false. Some folks tell themselves fibs like that enough to where I think they believe their own untruths. If we make up things about Dyson while trying to sway people not to buy them, does it help or hurt the intended cause? Anyway, if you have no corded or cordless preference, my first choice would be the [Ball Animal 3](https://www.costco.com/dyson-ball-animal-3%2B-upright-vacuum%09.product.4000179573.html). It may not be everybody's cup of tea, but it is powerful and versatile for an upright and you never have to worry about replacing batteries as they degrade or the charge running out. The bin is also much bigger than a typical cordless vacuum cleaner. For cordless, it depends on your flooring type. If you have lots of carpet, I would suggest getting one that is more powerful, with the V11 and V15 being notable examples. I would only grab the V15 if you want the extra features such as the dirt sensor and laser. If not, the V11, although the V15 is more powerful, is similar in cleaning ability, so it may be considered the better deal. If you have mostly hard floors, the V8 would even be fine, although it lacks the user-friendly battery swapping that the others mentioned have, which is a big deal as batteries degrade or if you want to stock up on batteries for more run time.

Why don't you want a stick vacuum? I was dubious about them until I bought a Dyson V11 in about 2020. I'm still using it today, it's still exactly as powerful as day one and with a good enough battery to do my whole house on a single charge, hardwood living areas with rugs and carpeted bedrooms. I'd never go back to a corded/drag around vacuum. The only issue I've had in 5+ years is a snapped trigger, which was a known design issue and has been fixed with an improved part I replaced myself. I have a short haired dog, but I'd trust it to deal with long haired pets as well.

Some fair criticisms. I'll counter but I respect there is subjectivity involved in this. I don't agree at all with points 1 and 2, my V11 absolutely outperforms any prior corded vacuum I've ever used and is not at all heavy or fatiguing - I find it much easier than lugging around a heavy wheeled unit. I won't say it's the best performing vac in the world, I'm sure some of the really expensive fancy brands perform awesomely. But it deeply cleans all of my rugs without an issue, without needing to touch the boost function. Point 3 and 4 are I suppose fair but is easily worth the trade off for dealing with bags for me. Point 4 doesn't bother me, I just empty with the nose into the bin which is in a drawer but even if I had to walk outside to empty it I'd still easily choose that over dealing with bags. Point 5, you're absolutely right the trigger was a design fault on mine, but in 5+ years so far of bashing it around it is the only part I had an issue with and the replacement is reinforced in the weak spot (and only cost about $20) so is unlikely to ever reoccur. I paid $800 for mine and I expect to get many more years of service out of it, so I don't view the build as a problem. My model doesn't flex under its own weight. It is an extremely capable vacuum that is a joy to use.

Fair enough. I got a free charge stand with mine, and it's easier to store than a drag around vac but I get it. The battery is literally never a concern for me, it can do the whole house on one charge and it's easy enough to use that you can do the house in sections without it being a hassle too.

I have a few Dyson cordless (V8, V10, and V11). I don't think they are worth anywhere near retail price, and I've only ever bought mine on Marketplace for well below (still NIB). The trigger on my V11 broke, but I managed to install an aftermarket replacement that I got from Amazon. Aside from that, they've worked well for me. However, I am only ever sweeping dust and dog fur from hardwood and tile. It's probably the easiest job for a vacuum. These are lightweight machines for lightweight use. Basically just very expensive "dust busters." I've never owned one of the corded models.

I like my dyson V11 and V15, but they aren't exactly BIFL. While it might be technicaly possible to get some parts if something breaks, parts are often out of stock for months, and you might end up replacing most of the vacuum if what should be a minor part fails. E.g. most of the stick vacs have a small plastic tab that keeps the dust bin attached when you're emptying it over a trash can. That tiny tab broke off of my V11, and the bin flys off if I'm not careful when emptying it. To "fix" the tab, you have to replace the whole "main body and cyclone" assembly, which is basically 90% of the vacuum and costs > $100. With that said, they do seem to pick up dirt pretty well in my experience on rugs and hardwoods, and they are light enough to easily maneuver and the battery lasts long enough to do our whole 1500 ft\^2 house. I also got mine refurbished so they were far less than retail price.

Corded vacuums were becoming an issue for him and the weight of a lot of vacuums was another issue. This sub has never appeared in my feed before but  I thought I’d chime in ! My Dyson v11 stopped working the other day and because the local service centre doesn’t allow people to drop off the vac and pick it up when it’s done (!?) and neither my husband nor I had the hours to spare taking time off work to wait to get it fixed, I ordered a generic stick vacuum from Temu as a temporary stand in. It arrived in 4 days and is better in every way than the Dyson, while costing 1/10 the price (maybe less?). I was astonished. I was never particularly enamoured of our v11 or the handyvac (I don’t remember what model but it has frequently given us trouble). But I wasn’t expecting the cheap little Temu vac to be so damn good. It just makes Dyson seem like even more of a rip-off, TBH.

I'm not sure if I agree that there isn't suction (there is indeed a decent amount of suction) and as a V10 and V11 user that while I actually dislike Dyson A LOT that their vacuums have their place. Permitted you got them on a deep discount then they're alright for light clean up jobs. I never agreed with their marketing to say they can replace a full sized vacuum or have more suction. They're cheaply built, have rather pricey consumable and worst of all they have the gross bin that puffs out a nasty dust cloud every time you empty them. I'm very much a SEBO user (have 3 + central vac) but the Dyson and even roombas are used for the quick pick ups and maintenance vacs.

The laser head is so fun to use. We have 2 cordless Dysons and they get regular use with our 2 dogs and 7 cats. No complaints whatsoever. Had the V11 for a while now and the laser one is more recent. I think some people don’t realize the vacuums themselves need cleaning once in a while - like rinsing off the filter and taking the rollers off to clean them.

Best performing is the Dyson but I guess performance is less of a concern if this is intended for quick pickups on hard floor only? I'd look at others with multi-cyclone technology Vs sharks single or dual cyclone. You will spend more time than you want cleaning a shark filter... Dyson on the other hand you will need to rinse out every 4-6 weeks or so. A Dyson V11 is probably plenty for your needs, especially if your country sells them with a soft roller head

I have a V11 and liked it...at first. However, after a couple years and two battery replacements (and I'm not using the highest setting that often), and having to replace some other parts because the whole thing is cheap plastic, I would say, "ehhhhhhhh". It's fine if you're okay with it lasting maybe 5 years, rather than the decade(s) you'd get out of a similarly priced vacuum.

I was mainly using a Dyson V11 then decided to delve into the cannister world. I couldn't justify buying a Miele or Sebo before I tried using a cannister and found a Kenmore 600 on Facebook for around $100. I figured I could use it and see if a cannister works for me. I've been so happy with it I've lost any desire to use anything else, and so far it's good enough that I've lost my urge to step up to a higher end machine. Build quality does appear to be a bit lacking, and I don't expect this to last forever, but it's a pretty good vacuum, especially if you're on a budget and can get one from the secondary market.

I love all the attachments it comes with & GOD the amount of hair it picks up<3 i had two cheaper vacuums break down on me within a year because of how often I would need to use it. I spent the money & have no regrets because now I only need to vacuum once a day (I have 2 heelers & 3 cats) & spend half the time I would with a typical vacuum. I have owned the Dyson V11 for 6 months and it started having filter issues, wouldn't turn off, and then a burning smell. I contacted them and they sent me a new main body & cyclone and it also would not turn off after I turned it on. They then said I could drive to a service center to have it looked at or they could send me a return label by email and I would have to find or buy a box to return it to them in. They said after they received my vacuum it would then take 15 days for them to send me a new one. Their process does not put the customer first or make them feel whole in the matter.

We had a choice between a V11 for £299 and a more basic dyson cordless model for £199, didn't remember the name of the model. We went with the V11 mostly for a longer battery life; it also felt more solidly put together than the £199 when we checked it out in the shop. Experience so far has been great; I'm absolutely sold on how portable and easy to hoosh around it is. Makes doing stairs and large areas a piece of piss. Loads of power in it even on an eco setting. Takes a few hours to charge, but it's designed to be left docked so it'll always get passively charged. Our previous hoover was an absolutely ancient Dyson that we got second-hand off some pals who'd used it for building dust, so it was on the decline even when we first got it. It weighed a ton, and it was so cumbersome that we'd end up vacuuming less and putting it off. This yoke is so handy I catch myself picking it up just to give things a go over every day or two.

The LG CordZero and Samsung Jet are regarded as great alternatives to the Dyson V15. Many offer 2 batteries and a charging stand for less than the price of a V15. I believe there are a lot of features on the V15 that are showy but do not improve the performance like the particle sensor and laser. You could get a Dyson V11 for the similar cleaning performance as the V15 but without the more expensive screen. The Submarine mop attachment on the V15 is not comparable to regular vacuum/mops, the Submarine does not vacuum and mop at the same time and it doesn't suck up any liquid, it just rolls it up. What kind of flooring do you have? If you have mostly carpets I would recommend cordless versions of upright vacuums like the Hoover Onepwr Hepa+/Oreck Cordless and the Simplicity Freedom/Riccar Supralite Cordless. These are battery powered versions of upright vacuums that have much better carpet cleaning than regular cordless stick vacuums like the Dyson, LG, and Samsung. Also don't buy any Sharks, they're terrible, they break, and they're unrepairable.

Well if you want a quiet vacuum, (the quietest to be specific) your option is the Miele C3. The Miele c1 is marginally louder but still quieter than a Sebo. Both are quieter than any Dyson lmao (those things are crazy loud and they don't even tune their motors to offload the whine behind our scope of hearing). The Miele c3 on max is quieter than a Dyson on normal. So the cheapest option would be the Miele c1 classic pure suction. The nicest option would be the c3 gala edition. Both are hard floor only machines, but the build quality of the c3 really speaks for itself. If you're iffy about spending so much on a Miele, try visit a local vacuum store with mieles. They'll be happy to let you try them out and Miele dealers will always sell lower than online listed MSRP. You'll also hear firsthand how much quieter they are. Technically speaking, all bagless machines will be pretty loud bc they don't have much soft padding to capture the sounds (bag, nice filter). Cordless machines overall are very loud because their motors are smaller, spinning at a higher speed to generate similar pressure, and those tiny whirring things make a huge high pitched sound, characteristic of any Dyson machine (vacuum, hairdryer, hand dryer). Combine a cordless bagless and you have the absolute worst care scenario for sound dampening. Mieles recently upped their motor rpm while reducing size, but they tune their motors such that the majority of the sound falls above the frequency of our hearing. My cat doesn't seem to hate my Miele so clearly it's not that loud ultrasonic either. Checkout rtings.com for objective measurements but lemme tell you: we've been a Miele family for about 2 decades now. I bought my mom a Dyson v11 thinking it'll be great for the kitchen but she hates it! It's loud, clunky, weak (relatively: it cant rice grains from the corners) and it needs SOOOOO much brush roll maintenance omfg. Huge waste of money tbh. It's still hung in the kitchen but I think they only use it for vacuuming the stairs now (with the electro tool). The Miele canister is obviously better for our cars too. Nowadays, I think the avg active home only needs a bagged corded vacuum, and a robot. There's very little place for cordlesses imo ESPECIALLY as EVs now have power outlets that allow the use of a normal vacuum.. (I have one and my partner still uses it more than I do, but we wouldn't be in need without one. I only bought it bc I found it for a steal not because I wanted a cordless).

Sister has V10 and I have V11. Both have internal trigger broken as they use a really thin shitty plastic piece for the only part that actually gets used continuesly. Fortunately it's not too difficult to fix yourself, but the customer service made me want to give up on life snd most people would probably just buy a new one.

I personally hate the V11. It's insanely loud, the power is often insufficient, emptying it feels very unhygienic. My spouse occasionally uses it but I always rather take out our bagged canister style vacuum (or whatever they're called in the US)

Ignore the hate, I’m glad you found a great vacuum!! I personally have the V11 which doesn’t have the laser head and I tried a laser head but it doesn’t seem to be compatible sadly It looks so cool!! People in this sub are on Miele and Sebo type side which is fine that’s their opinion but I hate how people can be so harsh when you’re just trying to enjoy the machine you like for yourself, I’ve had both Sebo and Miele and they are great machines too but I still like Dyson

I get that some bagless vacuums are disgusting to empty but I’ve got 2 Sebo’s an I had a Miele (went in bin) however, they all absolutely stunk after 2 weeks, no pets or smokers and I used it lightly I would just replace the bag but the bag isn’t even half full so it seems like a waste. I did try Sebo fresheners, and some vac discs but non lasted for more than 3 uses before the bag smell came back, they all done it since new I just got a Dyson V11 and I kinda prefer it, I push down on the bin lever and the bin scrapes the dirt off the cyclone shroud and it all drops into the outside bin, leaving the bin clear of dust I haven’t gotten any smells yet obviously since it’s brand new but already I prefer the emptying system

Dyson batteries are low quality from what I've seen to begin with. Our v8 absolute that we bought years ago didn't make it two years before it'd last 5 minutes in low. Dad's v11 battery lasts about 10 minutes on a full charge on low after 2 years. I bought him an lg that has two batteries, as my lg despite it's flaws is 3 years old, and still holds a solid charge

Shark cordless vacuum cleaners are not a type I would recommend. For the price, they have things about them that make them worse than a lot of the competition such as poor build quality and single cyclones. As for cordless, Dyson and LG, and sometimes Samsung, still make the leading mainstream ones in the United States. For Dyson, the V11 to current models are the best on carpet. The V8 is affordable, but lacks the run time and overall power to do a stellar job on carpet, at least in my opinion. Something such as the V15 smokes the heck out of a V8 and even a V10. Even the V12 is decent enough and good if you want something little and lightweight while still being powerful. That’s why I don’t understand the hate. I had to replace a seal because I tried pulling the old one out using a knife like a dipshit to clean it and cut it. Called Dyson and they sent me one free of charge despite it being my fault. I think I spent $400 on my V11 which broke down to a yearly cost of $80 so far and it’s still going strong. Why would I waste money on one of the other suggested brands that do the same thing? If I followed Reddit’s advice, I’d be spending $2000 on a canister vac I’d have to lug up and down the stairs.

I think Dyson has gone downhill. We bought a corded one like 15 years ago and it still works great. We bought a cordless maybe like 5 years ago that stopped working a year ish ago. We replaced it and that one broke pretty quickly. It was under warranty and Dyson’s customer service is great. They were out of the part and model, so they upgraded us to a much more expensive vacuum. It would have been around $1000 to buy this vacuum! And it’s not that great. It feels like it going to break and I don’t even think it even does a great job sucking things up.

Dyson - we've had 2 or 3 handhelds. OK day to day for the hard floors and pretty good for carpets occasionally. Fills up quickly and does a better job than our cleaner's vac but eventually bits break. Normally just out of warranty and parts aren't available directly so I end up on ebay. I'm not convinced it's worth the price tag TBH Shark - I'll look at this next time for price point on handhelds Henry - we've had ours for about 15 years. He's done several renovations, sucked up all sorts of horrible stuff including garden waste. That thing is bullet proof and if it eve does go wrong, it's simple enough to fix Miele - I'm going to look at this next time as it gets some good reccos here Father in law likes his Vax

Great question! You’re probably in the best position to judge, having so much central vac experience. Personally, I have found our central vac to be more powerful than a top level handheld Dyson or a corded Shark so I feel the central vac is worthwhile. But if you’re sick of the hose (or anything else), the Dyson does a comparable job (maybe 85%?) without any cord. It’s easier to maneuver, quicker to take out and put away, but you have to empty frequently and the charge only lasts 12-15 mins! It’s trade offs all around. So maybe it depends on what you wound do instead of repairing? (Also, you can find used central vacs for cheaper than your repair cost if you’re willing to go that route)

Dyson handheld is great for small tasks especially after the battery died and I put on an adapter for my Dewalt power tool batteries, lasts a lot longer now! We have an corded Shark convertible upright for around the house but it’s awful in so many ways. Tries to do lots of things and does none of them very well. When it dies we’ll get a sebo or a miele. We have a hetty for any DIY stuff but we’d never use it around the house as it’s filthy!

There truly is no solution other than daily cleaning. We are a multiple household and likely will be forever. Currently have one cat and one dog. Dog doesn’t shed but the cat makes up for it lol. My partner and I both have allergies so we need to clean a lot. Having a swiffer helps me (just the dry kind not the mop). I still sweep a lot, but the swiffer is helpful in clinging hair. You say you brush your pets semi regularly. That could be a huge contributor. All pets are different but some need daily brushing. The dog is more breed dependent, but I would brush your cats frequently to see if that helps. I agree a good vacuum can not be understated. I haaaaaate our vacuum but we can’t afford a new one. I am a nanny and will forever covet the Dyson V cordless vacuum line. If you have money for it, they are sooooooo great! So easy to use, great suction, easy to clean.

When we bought a multi level house and had pets and small children around we wanted to "upgrade" as well. Any with a Dyson stick as they seemed to be good. We loved the portability over the old hover and thought it was great. After a few years it started to show the truth. Crumbs would fall back down the tube. Multiple passes over items would still leave them on the ground. We when went as far a getting the old Hoover back out and realized just how much the Dyson missed. That lead me down the rabbit hole of what is actually good. Ended up with Miele, it's remarkable how well it performs.

Yes, being cordless and effective for what I need. They have HEPA filters, at least mine does. The no bag is a feature for some of us not a defect. It's all a tradeoff. For some the tradeoff for cordless, no bags, good suction, etal means we vacuum more than we otherwise would. I dont make a mess emptying it vs making a mess swapping bags - cause I overfill it. That's a me thing but it's a consistent me thing and I dont have to worry about it with the Dyson. I never would have thought I'd defend a near $1,000 cordless vacuum but I got one as a gift and will never buy anything different now.

Same - Though Reddit seems to hate them. We got a Shark as a gift, lasted 1 year. They replaced it for free. Lasted about 2 years. We’ve had the same Dyson stick over 10 years with no issues. A charge doesn’t last long as long as it used to, but suction is still excellent. I can save you the trouble, Reddit will recommend you buy a $1300 corded Miele/Sebu. If God forbid you must have a cordless, $1000 Miele or $200 shark. I just don’t think it’s worth it for something where the bar is “does it get my floors clean?”. It reminds of certain hobbies like Mountain Biking where anything other than enthusiast-level ($$$$) is ‘junk’. Okay but I had fun riding my ‘junk’ the last decade while saving 8K. Have an older upright Dyson bag less vacuum, over 15 years old and it’s good. Bought a stick vacuum a couple of years ago for quick cleaning like after kids have demolished snacks, for the car etc and it’s been awful. Barely has any power compared to the proper vacuum, charge doesn’t last long, battery died last year and I had to go in to a store to get it replaced (at charge) then got home and after one use it stopped again. Turns out it was the power adapter/cord that was stuffed, and the back and forth to get them to just post me a new cord was stupid.

The only correct answer. Millions sold and with very little advertising which is a testament to the brand. Been going for years without needlessly changing the design so you aren’t stuck with obsolete parts. Easily serviceable with inexpensive spare parts, all of which are readily available directly from Numatic and a decent range of attachments available too. Bought a Dyson cordless when I first moved in but it just felt a bit work shy and complained a lot. Replaced with a Henry and it’s a trooper. Does everything well with no fuss. I’ve used it in the garage. I’ve attached it to the mitre saw. It’ll ingest sawdust and nails like it’s nothing. Got one at the shop too, I’m sure it’s been there for at least 15 years and it’s used at least three times a week. Hasn’t seen a bag in years. What a fucking *brilliant* machine.

Call me crazy but my Dyson is still super strong after 4 years. Once the “beater bar” stopped working in mine, called Dyson and they told me to bring it to the Dyson repair place down the street. They gave me a whole new vacuum after 10 mins because they didn’t have a matching color brush head and didn’t want to send me home with a purple and yellow vacuum. When my cordless Dyson stopped working they did the same thing. I’m pretty lucky having an actual Dyson store down the street so I’m sure my experience is better than most, but they have taken care of me.

I wish I'd bought a Shark instead of a Dyson cordless. I have to empty the Dyson after vacuuming a single area rug, and if I use it when it's a tiny bit too full, it regurgitates a bunch of debris. It doesn't have great suction at the best of times, regardless.

The sharks are half the price at least and have nearly equal weight profiles as Dyson. Dyson warranties on cordless are just as garbage as everyone else's. Not reddit consumers who never clean the filters, brushes, or tracks not to mention reviewing vacuums that have only been around for a few years

I've had my cordless Dyson for 5 years now. I can never go back. You just need to make sure you take it apart and thoroughly clean it every 6-8 months depending on use. The ease of vacuuming with it makes me despise cord vacuums. I can never go back. Imagine trying to water your plants around your entire house with a hose versus a squirt gun that put out like a hose.

I had a cordless Dyson vacuum and I loved it. Someday I might buy another one. The reason I had to get rid of my previous one was not because it broke, but because the filters were no longer available for it on the Dyson website. They sell compatible filters on Amazon, but if you read the reviews, people are saying they are fake and don’t work at all, so I didn’t bother. So my suggestion to you is if you buy a Dyson vacuum, buy maybe four or five filters so that you will be able to use it for years to come. I ended up buying a Hoover vacuum and immediately regretted it because it’s very heavy and tires out my wrist and arm as I use it. Impossible to use on the stairs.

I had a Dyson "stick" type vacuum. It didn't last nearly as long as the price tag suggested it should. The out of warranty repair cost was 75% of what a new one would cost so I chucked it. I replaced it with a **Hoover ONE PWR** at half the price of the Dyson. I've had it longer than I had the Dyson and it's still working great. It comes with 2 batteries so one lives on the charger, the other on the vacuum. Means I've always got a full charge. The Dyson battery was internal so you can't swap out a battery if it dies on you. I would avoid anything that's not a brand name. Before the Dyson there was a generic Amazon no-name special vacuum that I used once, packed it back up in the box, and sent it back. Absolute junk. Bad suction. Just bad all around. Some of them may be fine but I don't trust the Amazon reviews on the no-name ones. They have a "Fieety" brand stick vacuum for $159 with nearly 1000 reviews averaging 4.6 stars. Is it good? You'd think so. But I still wouldn't take a chance on it. Ironically, the vacuum I bought and have had nothing but good luck with has a very low rating on Amazon (only 3 reviews though), but it doesn't matter as it's no longer available since it's such an old model.

So, I'm not sure where all of the Dyson hate is coming from, but I love ours. We bought it two years ago and it's still performing like it did on day one. Also: No annoying bags. No hoses that pinch you like an angry crab. (I hate you, Shark.) Super easy to clean filters, including the HEPA filter. It's also relatively light, easy to use/maneuver and is very multifunctional. I will say, however, that if you go cordless and have a space larger than 900 sq ft... you're going to need a second battery (unless they've improved on this over the years), or clean your space in shifts.

I work in shops, and Dyson cordless vacuums are revered. Need to vacuum up sawdust and aluminum chips and plastic shavings and metal filings? The Dyson will do it. Sharks and similar seem to break in a month or two. The power tool branded vacs are tougher but don’t work as well. The only downside is the batteries, but you can buy a DeWalt or Milwaukee adapter and never worry about it again.

I can't recommend one, but I can say that my Dyson stick vac, besides not sucking well, makes an insanely loud screaming sound, whereas the Miele C3 I just bought to use instead, is much quieter, particularly on the lower settings (where it still creates more suction than the Dyson). I did not have reddit before buying a dyson but signed up just to warn others. It's a beautiful machine.... that works for a year and then breaks (at least the cordless one) But what makes it worse is for a "premium product" the customer service is up there in the worst I have received. My vacuum broke a month ago (it's only a year old and still under 'warrenty'). \- I have been 30 days without a vacuum (it will probably be 45-60 by the time it's sorted) \- I have spent over 6-8 hours with customer service PS. I reached out on every other channel to give them an opportunity to rectify/ sort this out and they wouldn't do anything about it. Which is why I am here warning everyone else haha I would only every by one again at Costco where you can return it right away. I bought directly from dyson and there is no honor or care for customers when working directly with them .

Dyson cordless is the best for daily convenience but not so good for a deep clean and it's quite high maintenance with all the charging, emptying, filter washing, getting hair off the brushes etc. Miele is solid and the suction is bonkers but I wouldn't use it for building work etc as I want to keep it nice. Kjøpte Dyson for 4 år siden.

I feel like there aren’t any bifl stick vacs because bags wouldn’t really be practical, and the better manufacturers know that bagless vacs generally don’t clean as well. FWIW, I have a sebo canister vac for intermittent deep cleans — the thing is crazy powerful, and *will* probably last forever — and a Dyson stick that I use for daily pet hair duty. The Dyson is kind of a joke next to the sebo, but the ease of getting it around the house makes it my go-to for quick cleanups. (The batteries do need to be replaced once in awhile.)

Honestly the biggest thing that made me go with Dyson over Shark for my current vacuum is being able to maintain my vacuum. When looking online and in store it was hard to tell how I would clean the regular floor head myself with the Shark, while the Dyson is incredibly simple. Even the filter on the Dyson is washable, I don't have to replace any disposable parts all the time. If I can't maintain and clean my own cleaning tools they're doomed to be replaced sooner.

This and "enthusiests" in any given segment will be willing to give up convenience and performance. They always miss the entire point of a dyson, which is completely convenience. I don't want to lug around a bagged vacuum, I don't want to have to plug it in, dyson retains the build & performance but makes it cordless and quiet.

I tried to figure out how to change the HEPA filter when it was a couple of years old, but couldn't figure it out and there weren't any YouTube videos at the time. Yeah I worked as a vacuum tech for years and sold Miele, Sebo and Dysons, But Mieles were in for repair probably the most. All the service techs including me hated them. Way over priced and a royal pain to work on/get parts. The Dyson cordless that that I’ve owned for six years now has worked flawlessly and still gets 40 minutes on charge easily. And also for all the Dysons I’ve recommended to people through the years have all worked amazing. Dyson blows the competition away when it comes to innovation, and the overall product experience, especially the cordless game. Will never go back from Dyson. I do really like Sebo! The problem is not that the battery runs out during normal use, it's that EVERY SINGLE TIME you use max suction mode, it shortens the life of the battery. The user manual might say to only use max suction mode in short bursts, but it still doesn't change the fact that max suction mode is so bad for the battery that it shouldn't even be an option.

I really wanted to love the Dyson cordless vacuums, but I couldn’t get over having to press the button down the entire time vacuuming. Plus, the stick vacuums are a bit top heavy as well so it just felt super awkward to maneuver. It could just be because my hands are super hypermobile and so it’s ridiculously uncomfortable. I’m researching other cordless/stick brands.

I can say the Miele C1,2, and 3 bags or like $45 for the XL ones and it’s 8 bags or for you, a year supply. though you might only go through 5-6 cause they do compact the dust pretty well. And it comes with 2 pre motor filters and 2 post motor filters. So you get to change it’s primary filter every time you change bags, the pre motor filter which is what keeps the motor clean and running for a long time every 4 bags and the post motor filter which is the the last stand filter for anything that might have made it through every 4 bags. Also air flowing through a MERV 13 filter several times is the equivalent to a hepa filter cause they filter the same .3 micron particles and hepa filters 99% and MERV 13 filters 75-85%. So this would be close if not better than “hospital grade filtration.” And if you must they sell a hepa grade post motor filter as well for most models. So bagged would be great for your needs, and for an extra $45 you get a machine that will last at least twice if not up to four times as long as any baggless vacuum. I also own a Dyson stick for the past 2 years and my dad owns a Dyson animal ball for the past 15 years and they work pretty darn well. Shark might not last as long but the don’t leak dust either and is cheaper from what I’ve seen so its also is a viable option. Best of luck!!

Yes I found with the Dyson it was great to start with on max power but fairly quickly the time you could use it shortened before the battery ran out. The first we owned we got a good two or more years out of the battery, the next two we owned we only got a year. I have found with the Samsung that after 2 years there has been no decrease in power and there doesn’t seem to have been any decrease in the length of time it can be used before it needs recharging. Wouldn’t go back to a Dyson.

I also have pets and got a Miele C1 Cat and Dog. The suction is fantastic, but due to the fur tumbleweeds and tracked in dirt, I vacuum every other day or so. For that I find myself reaching for my backup Dyson stick - the canister is just too much of a pain for a quickie rug pass. Miele is the weekly “CLEAN ALL THE THINGS” tool. So if you are a chronic vaccunmer, I’d suggest either getting a Miele (or comparable) stick vac, or if you go canister, get a cheap backup for quickie fur jobs.

Buying the upper range of Shark corded is definitely better. I've owned both. I like Dyson stick vacuum products but wouldn't own one as my primary vacuum in a large residence. Dyson isn't what they used to be. I use one of their sticks at work. It was great initially but I've been watching it literally fall apart over the last few years (first the dust canister kept coming apart, then one of the wheels fell off, then the button that holds the stick in fell off). It gets a little abused, but it's not exactly tossed around. The suction is good. Everything else leaves something to be desired. Your money is probably better spent elsewhere.

4 years for a vacuum is terrible value for money ae. Expectations are so low these days for product longevity. Dyson are supposed to be the most premium vacuum, and it lasts about a year before it starts going down hill. After that you have to buy cheap Chinese battery adapter's to even use them. The filters are impossible to wash, and suction is below average.

My experience with Dyson stick. Worked ok first time. Next time wouldn’t work on high, cleaned it out, washed filter, let it dry 24 hours. Next day, won’t work oh high, barely works on medium, low is worthless. Cleaned again, washed filter, let it dry 24 hours. Next time high won’t work, medium pulses and barely sucks. So basically I vacuum carpet, litter gets pushed around room, when I turn off vacuum everything it has collected falls onto floor and I vacuum it up with a hand held ryobi. In researching Dyson problems, best advice on how to fix a Dyson was to throw it out and get something else. Good luck.

Yes, but you need to remember to always return it to the charger, otherwise it will be dead all the time & frustrating when you want to use it. The nice thing about Dysons, too, is a new battery is extremely affordable, so if the battery dies, you can replace it for under $40. I’ve had my Dyson cordless for 6 years, & I had to replace the battery once. I use mine daily. It’s been one of my favorite household “investments”.

I think you have had some trauma from older vacuums regarding batteries. Modern vacuums will last double that without losing too much power. It is no different than laptops. Those batteries used to die or be useless in 3-4 years but these days 5-6 is easily achieved, same for phones, and vacuums aren't discharged and recharged nearly as often. To illustrate, my 4 year old Philips vacuum has lost 0 of its charging capabilities. And while I agree that Dyson has good suction, they are reliability nightmares. I had two. I replaced the first after 3 years because it just stopped performing and no amount of cleaning did anything to change that. The second developed the same issues in about 2 years. I managed to convince support to send me a new motor but by then I was so pissed off with the brand (expensive and unreliable are a hateful combo) that I will never buy Dyson again (much of their stuff looks fancy but are outright scams). My Philips 8000 is as mentioned 4 years old and it has lost some of its suction power but will run about 40 minutes on a charge, same as when I bought it. Not super enthusiastic about the suction performance going down in 4 years but it has been better in pretty much every way compared to the Dyson (which refused to hoover up any of the cat litter on the floor eventhough it had much better suction, and it was FAR quieter too). Never again Dyson. Look up Dyson and Scam on Youtube and watch a few vids before you buy anything.

Go to Walmart and buy the Hart $100 stick vacuum. I have had 2 dysons and while they're nice the batteries are trash. I have tried factory and cheap replacements, and not much difference. Bought a cheap Walmart one for the garage and it worked great. Battery lasts forever. It works so well that the Dyson has gone to garage and the hart stays in the house. I've had it for 3 years now, still original battery working just fine. I'd get a year tops out of a Dyson battery. Dyson wins the looks award, but Hart beats it in performance.

I have a lower end Miele as my main vacuum and have had it for 10 years and it is like new... however I did supplement with a Dyson cordless for awhile and it went through a battery every year and I had to replace several broken plastic bits on the cannister.... also those make a mess when you try to empty them..... No cordless vacuums are BIFL.... HOWEVER we did get a Samsung Bespoke Jet cordless vac 2 years ago and I love that thing. Pricy for a cordless but it is way better quality than the Dyson and has a charging base that also contains a vacuum/bag that sucks the dirt out of it into a bag... so completely mess-less. It also has two batteries that can be swapped in seconds like a power tool. The second battery mounts to the dock in a second charger. It is also quieter than the Dyson and the Miele.

I pull both Mieles and Dysons out of the trash. These days I only grab the cordless Dyso9ns, but in the past have done the upright models. They are usually work after cleaning up. Maybe half the cordless examples I get need a new battery.

I got Dyson and I love it. she does hard and soft floors, she’s light enough for cob webs, car cleaning, you can lower the suck so if you spill crumbs at night it’s quiet. you can get unbranded acsessories so I got alsorts of things to help clean cars, keyboards, I got clips for the tube to hold more nozzles, I got a big bendy tube so stairs is a breeze. the filters are washable, I got a load of unbranded so I can swap them out more often. any breakages you can buy most spare parts online which is super handy also you just twist the end and the rollerbar pops out which makes long hair cleaning so easy. I used to hate sitting on the floor with sicciors cutting hair off the bar. I don’t miss trailing cables or the bulk of the Hoover.

In another life I was a Kirby service tech and I serviced machines on a number of occasions > 40-50 years old. At the time they had parts available for all machines. They ARE expensive (and the sales process leaves a lot to be desired) but are generally built like tanks. If there's a weak point, it's the fan. Even if it is Lexan, hard/heavy enough debris (eg bolts) can shatter the blades. The nice thing about the design is that instead of putting the bag inline with the fan, the bags fill from the top so it's able to maintain airflow. We have one (though it was a gift) but generally use our Dyson cordless day to day.

Honestly as an ex appliance engineer, the cordless Dysons are great for use but terrible when something goes wrong. We used to just write them off if it was anything more than a blockage. Dyson are also very difficult to deal with to get parts etc.

I didn't mean consumer end I meant b2b they were difficult to deal with i.e. sourcing the parts for the customer and general support.

I bought two dysons thinking they were the best. Canister vacuum motor burnt out right after the two year warranty. Stick vacuum battery died, which was fine to replace but still annoying. We’ve been limping along with just the stick vacuum for two years now brutal!

Dyson stick vacuum cleaners are the easiest to use and the best design for domestic use  IMO.   I had a miele in the past, and dragging around a cleaner on little wheels and replacing bags is terrible: I don't care how long they last.

I think I’ve had my Dyson cordless for longer than five years. I had to replace the battery once. I was told if you are constantly using it on Max, it will go through batteries like candy

🧹 Broom.and mop are the best . I put a few drops of Clorox and a few drops of dawn to a bucket 🪣 full of warm water( 🧤 )😂 I have a cordless shark vacuum for over 8 years now and it works just fine I also have a cordless Dyson for the days that I don't feel like grabbing the dustpan We are really making our life harder with so many artifacts and I am guilty of that

I made the switch from a bagless upright Dyson and a stick Dyson to a Kenmore Pop N Go canister, based on the advice of this sub. I could not be happier. I have three shed monster Australian Shepherds that have killed several Dysons over the years. I am THRILLED not to have to stop and empty the Dyson every 5 minutes. Changing the bag on the Kenmore is a lot less messy than emptying the bin on the Dyson. I wish I bought a canister 20 years ago. The canister is much easier to use on the stairs. It works miracles on cleaning my blinds, which the Dyson was absolutely useless for. It actually gets my carpets clean, which the Dyson failed to do after about a year. Also, the Kenmore is a hell of a lot quieter than my Dyson.

I’m surprised to see you say Dyson is difficult for parts. I’ve been buying their cordless vacs for 10+ years and any time I need a part they either overnight for free or they charge a fair price.

I’ve only had 2 over the 10+ years. Someone broke my first one and then I replaced it with a newer model.

I have a cordless dyson for 7 years. The battery crapped out halfway through but the batteries for powertools(which we have) also fits. So we use those. Now I dont know if the original battery is shit or not because I dropped the vacuum mulitple times so that might be my fault. But hey after dropping it so many times, it still works!!

I love my Dyson. Works well, I’ve had it for 4 years and have done zero maintenance to it. Sleek and easy to use. Mine is cordless and I find I use it more often because it’s easy to just whip out and then put it away. Is it the most powerful vacuum? Probably not, but I don’t need that. I have a cleaning service that comes by biweekly. I’m more about convenience and spot cleaning when needed. They have sales often so definitely keep checking for one so you don’t have to pay full price.
