I use my Dyson on eco mode for the washable rugs and it works! I can't use it on auto/regular or heavy mode or it sucks them up.
I mean, the dyson is good for picking up like visual dirt and debris on the ground if you don’t feel like pulling out the Felix. That’s about it though. The SEBO will be better at almost everything else except convenience.
First a not on self empty systems. They are sort of a gimmick. Firstly, they usually can do a basic empty of the container but they are not effective at cleaning the internal filters of the stick vac, that still has to be done really regularly yourself. And many self empty systems are themselves bagless, which means you have an additional 2 or 3 filters to clean. Bringing the total maintainence burden up to 2 dust containers, 2 mesh screens, and up to 5 or 6 filters you have to clean every couple weeks yourself! In other words, they're often more trouble than they are worth. Secondly, no cordless vac is going to match the suction and durability of a corded vac. With that in mind, and if you're good with it lasting about 5ish years, here's what I'd look at. Models from LG, including their own self empty model which at least uses bags, so there's nothing to clean on the station. Dyson have a pretty poor reputation for reliability now, but if you can tolerate very poor customer support, models like the v11 are still decent. V8 is a good more budget end choice. Miele duoflex or triflex models are great choices too, better quality than the others I think with good performance, but pricy and with fairly small bin capacity. Avoid no-name or bizzarely named models on Amazon, avoid bissell, hoover, dirt devil, shark, tineco, etc.
Dyson V11 is the best bang for the buck you’ll get out of a stick vacuum. I have it and it works great. Use it on my car as well It’s as strong as the v15 without all the features.
\#1 - guys, please don't ever get your wife a household appliance or cleaning supplies as a gift. Would you like it if your wife "gave" you a Christmas gift of an oven if the oven broke? Or a garage door repair if your garage door broke? No, you would just buy a new one or fix what was broken. Even if it is something she would enjoy using, an appliance to clean your house is not a gift. \#2 - my V11 just stopped working right when the 2-year warranty was up. The vacuum will run for a few seconds and then cut off. Dyson's customer service has been horrendous and after replacing the battery and the filter, I'm now being told I need to replace the body. From browsing Reddit, this seems like a common issue. The new battery was $100 and the new body is $130. This is the 2nd Dyson stick vacuum that we've had go bad after a few years. There is also no option to leave a review now that it has been so long. If I could do it over again, I would just go with a cheaper stick vacuum or invest more in something nicer like a Miele that will actually last.
For timber floors an Enyo Dust Floor Fibre broom is best to sweep it all up. For carpet the Dyson V11 with carpet power head is awesome, but after one rug we need to empty it.
I have a v11 Dyson pet stick vac. It has an attachment that essentially turns it into a handheld that I can use on the couch. I have a golden retriever and I love that thing.
Had my v11 for around 3 years it just took a crap on me today. I would say overall it’s not a good vacuum but Dyson in general has gone downhill! To me a vacuum cleaner should last 7-10 years max before it starts falling apart and giving you issues. Within the first year of having it mine already started falling apart and all I did was push it back and forth 😂 today the whole front mechanism just broke off as I went to go run it and now it’s trash. None of the other attachments it comes with are worth a shit lol to anyone reading this if you are even thinking of getting a Dyson DONT DO IT! overpriced junk and when you try to order a replacement part on their site they are CONSTANTLY sold out so that should tell you something there.
