Cordless, with a central blade of light reveals microscopic dust and dirt light, HEPA filtration of 99.99% of particles down to 0.01 microns and its sealed, no particles escape!, realtime instant scientific proof of a deep clean on LCD display, dust detect piezo sensor counts particles up to 15,000 times a second, adapting power to optimise suction, all Floor Cones™ Sense cleaner head automatically adjusts power and brush bar speed. Nylon bristles dig deep into carpets whilst soft fluffy fibres clean hard floors without scratching. Holds up to 30 days of dust, but is not self-emptying, but thinking it could extend how frequently you may have to empty outside with mask. Also no added scent things like Shark(s) and the only major flaw here is that it does obviously have a filter that must be cleaned when it tells you to, but that’s a problem to be encountered by any bagless vacuum cleaner now. - It’s the Dyson V16 Piston. Pricey, though it ticks all but two boxes, and its reliable, and asides from Miele likely the best option for maintaining healthy air quality for health implications as well as being lightweight, convenient, and versatile.

I'll also add that plenty of power tool batteries e.x. Bosch, Dewalt monitor but have no active cell balancing, & those will last for decades, you don't \*need\* balancing in a system like this, what dyson sucked at is matching cells Dyson batteries are designed to lock themselves when 300mV of unbalance is detected between the highest & lowest cell voltage. If you're getting that much imbalance on a fully charged circuit, the cells are on their way out, BMS would've got you a few more cycles. It is anti-BIFL that they lock the board & that you have to re-flash it if you want to replace the cells themselves, but people are far more likely to just adapt it for 18v power tool batteries rather than instal new cells The max mode is also incredibly harsh & I wish they'd just get rid of it & switch to fully automatic suction control, they've moved slightly towards this on the V16 but the rest of the vacuum is garbage

IMO the issue is that dyson doesn't have unreliable designs but rather QC issues I was speaking to a former engineer, he was saying something along those lines as well, the core design of the product is well tested, they arent designed with obsolescence in mind, the engineers only want the best, & are actually quite disappointed by the alleged return & failure rates, but there is management pressure Anecdotally, I've had to go through four pencilvac's before finding one w/o any issues. On one the BT connection was unreliable. One was missing the dock. One had a top release button that would grind against the metal. Now that forth one works absolutely perfectly, is built extremely well, & is by large & far the best vacuum I've owned. I think I had particularly bad luck. took a while to get there Few other things \- Their text support is awful. their call support is fantastic. their in-store support is even better. I exclusively shop & service in store and haven't had a single issue. I think much like e.x. arcteryx experience is largely based on where you're located & who you deal with \- These machines are not designed to be used on the max mode, it is mainly for reviews, marketing, & the occasional crevice or suede clean. The majority of the cleaning work is done by the cleaner head, be it the fluffy head or the beater bar. If you run it on max mode, it will degrade the battery much quicker. My dyson V7 battery died after 4yrs, I contacted support & told them I used it only on the standard mode, & they actually replaced it it free of charge out of warranty, YMMV \- People overfill the bins. You will see YouTube reviews & reddit threads where they clearly overfill the bins. This is especially problematic w/ the filter-less cinetic vacuums, but will still clog up the cyclones on vacuums with a pre-filter. The skirt on the new models is supposed to mitigate this, but not perfectly

I will also say I am more of a "I want a BIFL-ish machine w/ good performance rather than the absolute most BIFL machine & average performance" person & the Miele/Sebo machines are cumbersome, have costly recurring maintenance (bags), but they are going to be more BIFL because as you said you're effectively performing premotor filter + hepa filter + cyclone maintenance every time you replace that bag But thing is the SEBO vacuums are at least well engineered vacuums. The C3 is Fine as well. But you see a lot of people recommending the Miele cordless & L1 series, & those aren't even particularly good vacuums In the US at least, the latest flagship guard L1 loses fingertip controls on the wand, LEDs, the SEB228 sucks, no parquet twister, the "universal" (hardwood) floorhead only picks up fine debris, the electro (carpet) floorhead is rough, bulky, AND leaves quite a bit of dirt, the combo upholstery/crevice tool (which is a cute design) is designed for the European hose & simply falls off the American one! The door for that also feels awfully cheap But then the base version of that L1 w/o the display, for $1.25k, omits the HEPA filter. The cheapest dyson nowadays has a HEPA filter. I don't trust anyone who recommends that, I don't care if it lasts me 20yrs if I hate every second of using it. & with their cordless vacuums, single cyclone design, terrible pickup on carpet, fatass, loud floorhead, I'm sure it'll last forever, theres nothing to break, you could give it to me for free I wouldn't take it

The V16 is no joke. Laser per hair finder is awesome. It doesn’t have raw suction power but the beater bar gets hair out better than my shark does.

same. Had mine 8 years now and about to upgrade to the new model.

My current one has interchangeable feet (carpet vs hard floor) and the new model (v16?) doesn’t need that. Also apparently hair doesn’t get tangled around the roller. I’ll be buying in after Xmas sales.

Honestly, don't buy the Dyson V16. I bought it and just sent it back. The new brush is terrible. It doesn't vacuum properly on hard floors or carpets. The Dyson Gen5 performs much better. Otherwise, the V15 is excellent value for money.

I don’t know about cheap ones, but I can definitely recommend the Dyson Piston Animal. It does a brilliant job and gets my fabric sofa clean in about two minutes. It even has an attachment specifically for hair which works on carpet as well as furniture. I use it on my doona cover and have also been known to vacuum my clothes with it. 😂

Battery Stick vacuums, the way they'll get used 95% of the time, have about 1/4 - 1/3 of the airflow of a decent plug in vacuum. Even a Dyson V16 will have less than a 1/3 of the airflow the way it'll get actually used compared to a plug in. And even if you use your stick vac on full blast, it has about 3/4 the airflow at best case scenario when its brand new, compared to a plug in. They also have less than half the lifespan of a typical plug in. What's your budget?

I treated myself to one 15 years ago and it's still going strong; have never even needed it serviced. Mine is one up from the basic cheapest model. I forget but yeah I think I paid $500-600. We'd recently gone through many lower cost vacs and we were ready for a more BIFL product. I bought it for myself for my 45th bday. We stayed at a rustic AirBNB camp that had a Miele from the 70s. The cord no longer retracted, but it still worked great. Even with sucking up dried leaves twigs dirt and gravel on the daily. I'll mention we also have some robots and a stick vacuum; those were found on the curb and my husband refurbished them. I vastly prefer the Miele, but it's nice to have options. The stick is good for quick cleanups, the robots are good for extending the time between deep vacuuming.

We have Dyson animal 4 and 6, both found on the curb, and refurbished by my husband. I like it for doing the stairs and furniture and area rugs. I also like that my husband will more often vacuum with one of these, rather than me having to vacuum. And we have a Brava (purchased), and a Eufy (found on the curb). I do like the Eufy. We had Roombas from the earliest models onward, because my husband likes robots. But the Eufy is better. The Brava is nice and quiet but I think it's just a glorified swiffer and just pushes all the dirt into the corners making more work for me when I get out the Miele. It'll work okay as a wet mop in a small space like our tiled bathrooms. We use the Miele once a week and the other stuff more sporadically. The lesson here is if you are on a budget, you can find vacs for free on the curb, pay to refurbish or learn to do it yourself (also disinfect, ack!!). But we've never ever seen a Miele being thrown out!!!!
