"Great at picking up animal fur. ... it does the job well."

"The first one lasted five years, which was good enough for me, considering the price & the intense use. ... Two dogs (one a husky), two cats, and my thick, long hair. I vacuum daily, hardwoods and carpet."

"We've had our Dyson V8 for almost 6 years and it still works amazingly."

"I've had the Dyson for 5."

"They always miss the entire point of a dyson, which is completely convenience. ... I don't want to lug around a bagged vacuum, I don't want to have to plug it in, dyson retains the build & performance but makes it cordless and quiet."

"I have small hands, and now have arthritis, so V8 is smaller than the stick vacuums that came after it."

"easy to move around"

"was super easy to replace"

"just recently had the replace the battery, which was super easy."

"Bought a chinese knockoff battery on Amazon, still working after almost 4 years. 😅 ... No soldering, just a couple of screws and you swap the battery pack. 👍"

"I live in a 2700 square foot cookie-cutter tract house. First floor is laminate with an office that has carpet. Then there’s the stairs which leads to 5 carpeted bedrooms, two tile bathrooms, a laundry room, and a walk-in carpeted closet. I can get all of that done one charge."

"being cordless and effective for what I need. ... For some the tradeoff for cordless, no bags, good suction, etal means we vacuum more than we otherwise would. ... I never would have thought I'd defend a near $1,000 cordless vacuum but I got one as a gift and will never buy anything different now."

"I love the dyson stick vacuum for quick pickups."

"battery died just months after warranty expired."

"The out of warranty repair cost was 75% of what a new one would cost so I chucked it."

"The Dyson battery was internal so you can't swap out a battery if it dies on you."

"the amount of dog hair / ETC it can get out of the carpet vs the Dyson Cordless cannot be compared."

"the cordless Dyson isn’t that great for carpet/rugs ... I have the old school Dyson Ball vacuum cleaner and it’s sooo much better for rugs"

"It wasnt good enough though with our new house with carpet upstairs"

"I hate to hold pressing the power button all the time."

"I couldn’t get over having to press the button down the entire time vacuuming."

"I don't like having to take batteries out of things to charge them if I can help it. Especially not something like a vacuum I use frequently."

For me, with three long-haired cats, my Dyson stick saves my life. I got the one at Costco-V something. On full strength I use it on my few rugs , but I keep it on the middle strength for all my other floors. The battery life at full power is pretty short (20 mins) but at least 30-40 mins in the middle setting. I live on a single floor condo so it works perfectly for me.

Dyson V8 slim. Been using for past 4 years. Tineco S5 pro. Using for the past 1 years. Also got a robot vacuum S5 from roborock but experience with it was terrible.

Shark Detect Pro or Dyson V8 (Fluffy head) are solid picks. No beater bar, good for hard floors. Both usually in that price range if on sale. EU stockists have ’em!

Yeah my big thing with the Dyson V8/15 Is the wall charging. Being able to just grab it and hang it back up helps me use it more frequently. I don't like having to take batteries out of things to charge them if I can help it. Especially not something like a vacuum I use frequently.

I hate my cordless Dyson and had to use the warranty 3 times in the first year. My corded one is fine.

For the price, it makes sense to what's usually recommended here. The other I was looking at is 4 times the cost and heavier!  I haven't decided yet, but my trusty old Dyson animal finally died and the repair failed, I really hope OP is steering me in the right direction.  My poor Dyson. New ones are awful compared, the only thing I like about my cordless $500 Dyson is that it doesn't get stuck on rugs. I need the cord back!!!!

If I’m being 100% honest I used to be a Dyson hater (I’ve used $1200 Miele vacuums my entire life) but my Dyson v8 cordless slaps. We have a husky who sheds like crazy. I run it on turbo all the time and it does a great job. It’s on the top end of your budget but sometimes there’s deals

All the time. My gf is a sucker for fluffy rugs, you know, the ones that look like you skinned a Wooly mammoth? The Dyson does really well on it surprisingly. I just measured it for you, the carpet has like 1.25” tall strands, so pretty fluffy. Even though I love my Miele, the Dyson beater bar is hands down the best I’ve seen for keeping hair from getting tangled in it. Their little spiral thing is amazingly designed. My ONLY gripe on that vacuum is lack of suction on low mode. I wish they would have bumped that up a notch or two, as I really don’t need 30 minutes of runtime or whatever it lasts.

Honestly it’s not bad all all. It’s got that annoying high pitched Dyson whine, but that’s just the nature of the beast. Turbo gets loud but certainly not earplugs territory lol. It still irritates me that I’m recommending this thing. I want to hate Dyson so bad 😂

Avoid the V15 - repeated power/motor issues. From what I can tell, only the V8 is still recommended here.
