My corded18 month old Shark sucks like 70 year old smoker with emphysema. The Henry has never been the same since the European laws came in which stifled its power consumption, it also had difficulties with corners and falling over like a pissed up toddler. Decided to do some research and found this: Hoover ONEPWR Evolve Pet Elite, it’s brilliant and has some great reviews. So why not go back to a Hoover for Hoovering?

I doubt this is the absolute best option on the market, but I used to have a Hoover Evolve with an anti-tangle brush that worked very well with my long person hair, so pet hair shouldn't get caught too much. I'm sure there are other anti-tangle options out there, but I would caution buying anything over a few hundred dollars since nothing cordless is going to last very long. You could also consider something without a brush roller (although I don't have any specific rec's there) especially if you have a powered roller on the Miele for deep cleaning carpets and your area rug.

I agree, the unfamiliar brands are cheap, break quickly, and have no parts support. Don't buy them. There are several vacuums right above $150 that are worth checking out. The HART 20-Volt High Capacity Cordless Stick Vacuum Kit $149 is a rebadged Hoover Onepwr Evolve, the Hart batteries are compatible with other Hart vacuums but not with Hoovers. Hoover Onepwr Emerge Essentials $178 and Samsung Jet 60 Flex $188 (both at walmart) and Hoover Onepwr Evolve Pet Elite and Hand Vac $199 (home depot). All the batteries will wear out in 2-3 years. If you just want a small lightweight vacuum the corded Kenmore Intuition BU4022 $149 will outclean any cordless vacuum.

So far cordless vacuums cannot fully replace corded vacuums for cleaning carpets. If you can use a corded vacuum it will deep clean much better and last longer than a cordless vacuum. The Kenmore Intuition BU4022 and BU4050 $219-224 are small upright vacuums. They are as narrow as a cordless vacuum. They are lightweight, have swivel steering, and liftaway mode. They use hepa bags so you only need to change the bag once every 2 months. Oreck vacuums are very lightweight too. The Simplicity Spiffy S60 $284 is a small corded upright stick vacuum. It has no brushroll so it won't get hairwrap but it doesn't groom the carpet as well as a vacuum with a brushroll. If you need a cordless vacuum Dysons are ok among cordless vacuums. The problem is they are more expensive but they don't last any longer than cheaper cordless vacuums. The Dyson V8 is their best cordless vacuum. The V10, V11, and V15 are much heavier to hold and you are paying more for features that don't affect cleaning power. The laser and particle sensor don't make the vacuum clean any better. Always look for a cordless vacuum that has removable and replaceable batteries and has a bin and filters and cyclones that are removable and easy to clean. Many cordless vacuums have fixed batteries that stop the whole machine when they break or wear out in 12-24 months. The Hoover Onepwr Evolve $319 is pretty good among cordless vacuums. If you don't need any tools the bin is larger and you don't have a heavy handle since the motor and battery are lower on the vacuum. Again, cordless vacuums don't compare to corded vacuums on carpets. My top recommendation based on your needs is the Kenmore Intuition. My second recommendation is the Hoover Commercial Superior Lite Bagged, Multi-Floor, Professional Upright Vacuum Cleaner, Black, CH50200 $204 is an Oreck Commercial XL but it's cheaper in your market than the regular Oreck XLs. My last recommendation is the cordless Hoover Onepwr Evolve. What do you think?

A lot of traditional vacuums are removing manual controls and options and it's even harder to find cordless vacuums that give you the option of operating with the brush roll off. Take a look at the hoover onepwr evolve.  Those units are able to stand independently unlike stick vacuums and the last model had the option to run without the rollerbrush.  Since Hoover frequently tweaks and redesigns model versions, I would make sure that you find a confirmation of the possible brush roll operations for the versions available currently. Also have some realistic expectations for what you can achieve with a cordless vacuum over a rug with the brush roll off.  It might move fine surface dust, but will do very little for hair and larger/ embedded debris on rugs.  With a parquet brush or kombi attached to a powerful canister, you will at least agitate and remove the dirt and hair with a greater suction power.

I have two golden retrievers. I love my Bissell Cleanview Swivel Rewind Pet. I’ve had it six years, great at dog hair, doesn’t clog and easy to take apart and clean. I had Dyson Pets before that and they cost twice as much and both failed after two years. I also have a cordless Hoover Revolve Pet I use on the level I have hardwoods and while not as heavy duty as the Bissell it does a great job. The best thing I have used to get dog hair off couches is a pet hair removal glove I got off Amazon, it’s like an oven mitt, you scrub at the couch with it and the hair just balls up and comes off.

Dysons clean well, but their limited battery time, battery life and price will keep me from getting another one. Plus, you have to always keep your finger on the power button. Except for the heavier weight, I much prefer my Hoover ONEPWR stick vac, because I can immediately put in another battery when the one I am using runs out; a red battery light comes on when the battery is about to run out; the batteries recharge fast with the newer chargers; it picks up just as well, if not better, than the Dyson; and it doesn't cost anywhere near as much.

Well, the reason I believe for having to always hold the trigger down is so the battery doesn't run out as quickly, since you will always be actively vacuuming when the trigger is pressed. I use the high setting because the lower one does not pick up as well, and I have to go over the area again. On one charge I can only vacuum a carpeted staircase with a center platform. I don't live in a small house. Dyson ends up being more like only for the stairs and as a quick pickup vac. Thanks for all the trouble in providing the links, but I'm not looking to make my Dyson more useful. I just use the Hoover instead when the Dyson is dead, or when I know I need to vaccuum for quite a while. I will not buy another Dyson.

I like the Hoover ONEPWR vacs. Theycan be used on floors and carpets. When the battery dies, you can just replace it with another battery. All the ONEPWR vacs use the same batteries. The newer chargers charge pretty quick, too.
