Dyson’s aren’t good vacuum cleaners. One thing that was interesting about what you said is that you are on the spectrum and you also mentioned the green light of the Dyson. That laser is to help you see the dirt on the floor so that you can vacuum it. Kenmore Elites have a blue light that goes illuminates when it senses you’re vacuuming up particles and then turns off when you’ve cleaned them all up and it doesn’t sense anymore. It’s actually a great feature and I wish my Sebo had it. Often those Kenmore’s are manufactured by Panasonic and with the inducer motors they have a lot of suction power. This upright meets your budget requirements https://a.co/d/7JHdAVN. If you can stretch your budget to $449 this canister is better and has a powered attachment for pet hair. I had this 800 series and If you have carpets and hard floors the crossover system is great. https://a.co/d/bBwae1L
I agree. This is the vacuum I used before my SEBO and it was great. The main drawback is the weight but it ranks as one of the highest suction upright vacuums.
First, I will tell you they are NOT cheap for most of them. A shark is going to cost you $100-120, a Miele may cost $300-1,000. You DO NOT need any of the high end ones unless you’ve got a **massive** house. Second I will add, that Miele vacuum is going to last you 10+ years if you do upkeep if you buy the canister one which is the easiest to maintain. I’d say upkeep on them is maybe 10% of the effort of a bagless one. With bags it quite seriously contains everything within, you mainly rinse out the vacuum hose and wipe down the inside - then the main routine part is cleaning the bristles and what not. To remove fur tangled in bristles, take a box cutter knife and run it down the middle slowly cutting off fur that is wrapped around it (only any vacuum). Also note that these vacuums are going to be bigger than an upright one if you go with the canister. As far as specific ones, Kenmore is going to be cheapest and most efficient for the canister vacuum, around $200-300. Kenmore Elite Pet Friendly CrossOver 21814, Kenmore 200 Series BC4002. For Miele, Guard M1 Cat & Dog which is around $500. With all being said, the bagless miele’s are still great and around $350. The one you’d want to explore more is Boost CX1 SNRD0 - it’s $300-400. If you prefer an upright, which is still way better than a stick vacuum, a Kenmore Elite Pet Friendly 31150 is about $200 and will be great. Also, your current one may have gunk in the tub or chamber which is why the fluff is clogging. You may want to try cleaning your vacuum first unless the motor was running too hard / it’s old.
First of all, your dog is so cute. This [Kenmore Intuition](https://a.co/d/iQJvWFv) would work well. This [Kenmore Canister](https://a.co/d/90JfCNM) would do well, too. It cleans carpets, it has attachments, and it’s under budget. These two vacuums are for cleaning carpets only (no attachments) but they’re under budget and would work well. [Oreck XL](https://a.co/d/9aA1IX6) [Kaercher Ranger](https://www.kaercher.com/us/commercial/vacuum-cleaners/upright/ranger-10129000.html) Between those two, I would choose the Kaercher because the brushroll pops out easily to clean it. Just noting that a difference between bagged and bagless vacuums is that bagless vacuums volumize dirt and debris, so you have to empty the bin after every clean. A bagged vacuum compacts the dirty and hair so you don’t need to change the bags until after a few months, most likely.
Back before I discovered this sub, I, idiotically, purchased (luckily on sale) a shark nv352 for $120 or so based on vacuum wars so heavily recommending it as a budget pick in so many videos. I really don't like the vacuum. It's suction is okay, but sticks to my carpet way too hard and the brush roll will shut off unless I open the manual relief valve wide open (due to no height adjustment). When I do that, it doesn't suck stuff up that well, and I have to vacuum under the rugs because shit just gets packed in and falls through. The shit separator also gets the filters filthy insanely fast, and the canister fills up after doing 1-3 rugs, especially from all the hair that gets caught on the nub in the waste canister. If I were to do it all over again, I probably would have just got a kenmore 31150 or similar bagged unit. It seems to be everything I'm looking for. I feel like such an idiot, oh well. I'm waiting for its death but now that I say that it's going to last 7 years.
We ended up with Kenmore for $269 when our dyson finally died. No regrets tho it's so strong we couldn't use it on cheapest throw rugs. You may wanna wait for prime days coming https://amzn.to/4k5Cspz
The Hoover Anniversary WindTunnel Self-Propelled upright vacuums are capable vacuums but they are heavy. I don't love them, the self-propelled drive adds complexity and weight. I think the regular WindTunnel bagged uprights are better. This is a repairable vacuum so if you want to keep it you could get the height adjustment repaired but that won't help the weight. It should clean carpets well and be mediocre on hard floors. Hepa bags are still available so filtration is ok. Just for carpets I think there are better lighter vacuums. For all around there are better and lighter vacuums. The current Hoover Complete Performance Advanced UH30650PC and Bissell BigGreen Commercial PowerForce Bagged BGU1451T are both around $160 and they are good at cleaning carpets and they are both lighter, no brushroll shutoff though. The Kenmore Elite Upright 31150 $250 is good at carpets and hard floors but it is heavy too. Karcher Ranger $212 is a lightweight upright that primarily cleans carpets, there's no hose or tools.
If you just have low to medium pile carpets a lot people like the Kenmore Intuition $150-180 because it's bagged and lightweight, it's smaller than a full-size vacuum like the Hoover Anniversary. It has brushroll shutoff for hard floors and swivel steering and liftaway mode. Downsides are it isn't as durable as your old Hoover and the hose is short. But I'd make some of those tradeoffs for a much lighter vacuum. There's an Intuition BU4050 that's popular because it has a brushroll that reduces hairwrap and it comes with the most bags and tools included. If you have high pile or plush carpets you really carpet height adjustment. The Hoover Complete Performance Advanced $180-200 is good for carpets and without self-propelled motors and extra wheels it's much lighter than your old Hoover. It doesn't have brushroll shutoff though, so it's not great on hard floors and the brushroll spins even when you use the hose. The Kenmore Elite Upright $250-300 has carpet height adjustment and brushroll shutoff, but it's the heaviest of the three. Not as heavy as your old Hoover and I find the weight average when using the vacuum but if you have to lift it up it is the heaviest and it has a short hose. The Kenmore Elite has the most features and the best build quality of these 3 too.
My favorites to use would be my Numatic NBV240NX (probably the most impressive cordless machine I’ve ever used), SEBO K2 Turbo (nice long hose, excellent maneuverability), SEBO E3 (zero complaints, just a very nice vacuum), Lindhaus HF6 (hose is kinda short, but I like the powerhead and the canister maneuvers around nicely), and SEBO Felix (just fits in nicely with how I like to clean). I also get a ton of use out of my Roomba and Dyson V12, though I’d hesitate to call them my favorites. Least favorite…any of the traditional American door-to-door brands. I own around a half dozen Kirbys, Rainbows, Tristars, and Aerus Electroluxes and they all fall into that category of “oh my god I hate using this thing” after 5 seconds of vacuuming. Same with the Kenmore 31150, Miele S7, and SEBO 370 Comfort, just cause they’re so bulky and awkward compared to other uprights. I was also let down pretty hard by my Samsung Jet 75, since I thought it had underwhelming performance (even for a cordless) and awkward ergonomics. And just from a collector’s perspective, I really like my Dirt Devil MVP Swivel Glide (my first vacuum), Dirt Devil Powerlite/Housemate, Miele Art, Eureka Retro Vac, and stainless steel Hoover Constellation.
If you're on a budget like I am then the Kenmore Elite 31150 is about the best you can get for the price, ridiculous suction, the brushroll beats the carpet so well it reminds me of my Rubbermaid branded Sanitaire knockoff, and the only tool that isn't worth using is the turbine brush
You may find the Kenmore Floor Care Elite upright to be more attractive depending on your other industrial design sensibilities. If you want something that has more of the design language of Shark or Dyson, Kenmore also has the 600 Series Pop N Go. Personally I prefer Miele and Sebo’s ID. I’ve never seen a Dyson or Shark that doesn’t look absolutely filthy in practice after a few short uses. I say that as a longtime Dyson V10 owner.
