My recommendation will come at a surprise for you because it is not a Shark, Dyson, Sebo, Miele, Riccar or Kirby. For people who have pets and want a long lasting vacuum that can handle pet hair well, my best recommendation is to look at Kenmore.
In my own wrong opinion, Kenmore is a very overlooked brand because everyone wants a Shark, Sebo, Miele, Riccar, or something else ungodly expensive. My parents have had a Kenmore for years and it hasn't shown any signs of stopping. I use a Kenmore to clean a hair salon, so I know they can hold their own with various lengths and magnitude of hair.

I love my Miele. I got it on Wayfair for $399. The suction is incredible and so easy to adjust for different needs. However, it doesn’t have a motorized head, so it’s not great for rooms with thick wall to wall carpeting. But most of my houses have almost all bare floors and area rugs which it’s fine for. I also have an older Kenmore canister that does have a motorized head, does an amazing job but is sooo clunky, that’s why I went with the Miele
Sadly no. It doesn’t come with a power head. I’d recommend looking at c1 cat and dog if you can extend budget a tad or a kenmore canister with a power head.
Or a sebo Dart would also work really well.
Speaking from experience as an older person, the cordless vacuums are top heavy and absolutely not engineered for use with a person with joint issues or aging in general. I have a canister vacuum that is easy to pull and has a great parquet attachment with brushes that works well on floors with tile, wood, etc. Sears still makes one that might work. I prefer bags because of my allergies. I don’t have pets so I only need to charge it every few months. ( I have a Sebo E3 that I purchased during the pandemic.)
The comparison of a 120 upright vs a pretty decent Kenmore canister would have to do with some of the following:
Ease of use under furniture, dining room chairs/table, etc.
Being able to turn off the rotating brush for bare floor.
Being able to change heads for bare floors, area rugs, etc.(can't with an upright)
Length of hose, length of electric cord. Auto rewind cord on the Kenmore.
Quality of hose, and of other attachments.
Decibel level.
I'm betting the Kenmore can take more out of the carpet than the 120 upright, but it's hard to quantify.
Cleaner air with the Kenmore Hepa filtration.
There is probably some other factors, but the bottom line is, are these things worth it to you to spend more on the Kenmore?
