I had an A9 that just died after about 5 years and I hated the dustbin. It was messy AF and kept clogging at the intake so I had to pull dust out by hand every time I emptied it. I'm looking for a replacement and I'm pretty hesitant to get another A9, possibly unless it's an auto empty one, or they have otherwise fixed it.

Sharks and Dysons are for houses that hate money and love throwing it away. I’d avoid cordless (at least for your primary vacuum). Depending on your definition of mid-level is, check out a Sebo dart. It will last 20+ years. IMO it’s worth the price of admission. Cordless sticks (LG A9 etc.) serve a purpose for quick daily messes. But for whole house weekly deep cleaning you’ll want corded/bagged like the above Sebo.

Primary: Simplicity allergy or Kenmore elite upright Secondary: LG A9 or bissell airram MSRP is above 150 but maybe Black Friday will bring the pricing down. Keep an eye out. Other than that, check the automod for cordless recs.

IMO ditch your cordless requirement at least for your primary vacuum. If you want something that is long lasting, doesn’t clog and is good will allergies you’ll definitely need something corded and bagged. Cordless and bagless vacuums are a sad joke masquerading as a vacuum. Grab a Sebo k3 or Miele C3 Cat and Dog for your main weekly deep clean vacuum. Then grab a cordless stick for quick daily messes. (Bissell airram or lg a9) The Miele and Sebo have an expected life of ~20 years. So imo it’s worth the price of admission. You could also look at a Kenmore 600 series pop and go + a cordless stick as well.

Does not exist. Regardless of what marketing departments try to sell us - What you’re looking for is 3 separate pieces of equipment. 1) Dry, corded and bagged primary vacuum for weekly deep clean: Miele C1 Cat and Dog, Miele C3 Homecare, Sebo K3, dart/felix, e3 2) Cordless/bagless stick for quick daily messes: LG A9 or Bissell airram 3) The gold standard for wet cleaning: A good old mop and bucket. The combo machines are a joke and will be in the trash within a year or two. Put the blinders on, ignore the marketing hype, go with what is tried and true.

Personally I wouldn’t get another cordless bagless as your primary vacuum. They’re not up to this task (regardless of what marketing departments tell us). Ideally you want 2 vacuums. 1) cordless bagless for quick daily messes: LG A9 2) corded and bagged primary weekly deep clean vacuum: Look at a Miele C1 cat and dog, C3 Homecare or Sebo K3/E3

Is this your primary vacuums? No. Avoid at all costs. What’s your flooring and budget. We can do wayyy better. Is it a secondary quick pickup vacuum? Maybe, but the V8 is better at that IMO. Same with the LG A9

Top contenders: Henry Quick, Miele Duoflex or Triflex, Samsung Jet Bespoke AI, 85 or 75. LG A9 Cord Zero, Shark PowerDetect, Shark Vertex Pro. The Henry, Samsung Bespoke AI and Cord Zero A9 all feature a bagged mechanism of some kind which make them hygienically a step above the rest. The Henry is the only cordless that actually has a bag which is unique to this category.

Oof, classic Ryobi bait-and-switch. It is great for tools, terrible for vacs. If you’re looking for real performance under $500, start with LG CordZero, Tineco A11/A15 Hero, or a used Dyson V10/V11. If battery cross-compatibility isn’t a must, just get a vac that actually vacuums.

Because the LG comes with 2 batteries and the cyclone easily comes apart so you can wash / clean it. Its performance is nearly identical and it’s cheaper than Dyson. Parts for it are also available. I’m partial to the Lindhaus because it a bagged machine and more of a BIFL option

Since you move frequently, a cordless stick vacuum might be sufficient if your homes typically have hard floors. However, it will struggle with carpets. A good option for you would be to have two vacuums. A powerful, corded, bagged vacuum for deep cleaning and "do it all" versatility. Then a simple cordless vacuum for quick cleanups and light maintenance between deeper cleans. This combination will give you the best of both worlds. Deep cleaning power with proper filtration and grab-and-go convenience for everyday light duty cleaning. It will give you more longevity from both machines and future proof you no matter your flooring and cleaning needs. If it were my money and I had $500-$600 I would get a Kenmore 600 Series and a LG A9 to supplement it.

r/VacuumCleaners • Is the Dyson worth it? ->

Old_Man_Smell • 3 months ago

They’re worth it as a secondary, light duty cleaner. Cordless sticks are generally lousy as a primary vacuum, they just don’t have the suction or agitation needed to deep clean properly. Get the C1 Turbo as your primary and something like an LG A9 as your “quick pickup” light duty cleaner.

The LG CordZero and Samsung Jet are regarded as great alternatives to the Dyson V15. Many offer 2 batteries and a charging stand for less than the price of a V15. I believe there are a lot of features on the V15 that are showy but do not improve the performance like the particle sensor and laser. You could get a Dyson V11 for the similar cleaning performance as the V15 but without the more expensive screen. The Submarine mop attachment on the V15 is not comparable to regular vacuum/mops, the Submarine does not vacuum and mop at the same time and it doesn't suck up any liquid, it just rolls it up. What kind of flooring do you have? If you have mostly carpets I would recommend cordless versions of upright vacuums like the Hoover Onepwr Hepa+/Oreck Cordless and the Simplicity Freedom/Riccar Supralite Cordless. These are battery powered versions of upright vacuums that have much better carpet cleaning than regular cordless stick vacuums like the Dyson, LG, and Samsung. Also don't buy any Sharks, they're terrible, they break, and they're unrepairable.

For all hard floors you don't need a spinning brushroll and it actually makes the vacuum noisier. I'd avoid the Bissell and most bagless vacuums because they're very loud. I agree with u/totpot, bagged canister vacuums are the quietest. No brushroll, bagged and more sound insulation make they very quiet. Like a fan on medium-high speed quiet. The Miele C1 Pure Suction $319-350 are very good for hard floors, super quiet but powerful, and they have an automatic rewinding cord. The Soniclean Whisper Jet C2 $250 is also very quiet. Good canister vacuums easily last over 10 years. If you want a cordless stick vacuum look for a vacuum with a soft brushroll. The stiffer brushroll will make noise hitting a hard floor surface and it isn't needed for smooth surfaces. The Dyson V8 is above average for cordless vacuums. Look for a model with the fluffy motor head. Downsides are cordless vacuums have a very short run time on high power like 8-12 minutes, and I don't like that you have to hold the trigger on a Dyson. The LG CordZero is a good cordless vacuum and many models come with 2 batteries and a charging stand for the same price as a Dyson. But finding a model with the soft brushroll powerhead is limited. Most better cordless vacuums have digital motors and have a high pitch that's louder than a canister vacuum, but not as loud as a bagless upright vacuum. Cordless vacuums offer convenience but their batteries wear out in 2-5 years.

I recommend cordless vacuums that have removable & replaceable batteries, easy-to-clean bins, and replacement parts available. Dysons are definitely ok, but you pay extra for the name. The Dyson V8 and V12 Detect Slim are the best vacuums with a good weight balance. I really like the LG CordZero. It has removable batteries and many models come with 2 batteries and a charging stand. I'm not confident of the dual brushroll powerhead because most dual powerheads tend to make more problems. It is getting harder to find a model with the 2 separate powerheads but that's my preference. Some of the Dreame vacuums with auto-empty bins look to be good budget values. Parts availability isn't as good as Dyson or LG but they cost less and come with a lot of accessories. If you have most or all carpets, don't forget the Hoover Onepwr Hepa Cordless Bagged Upright $189. This is a battery powered Oreck Elevate and it's great for carpets.

I don't recommend Dyson dupes or copies. Cordless vacuums have a lot of drawbacks to be lightweight and get to a certain price. The battery can't be too big or heavy and since the battery is a very expensive component other parts are smaller or cheaper. So I only recommend name brand cordless vacuums that have replaceable batteries and replacement parts available. Sometimes I've seen an LG CordZero A9 and Samsung Jet 60 with basic models under $200. I wouldn't buy anything cheaper than those vacuums because the cheap cordless vacuums break in a year or less and then they're aren't repairable. If you are looking to stay around $100 I recommend looking at the corded Kenmore Intution. It's a small upright vacuum with hepa bags. It's light and since the motor sits near the wheels the handle weight is actually less than a cordless vacuum. Many of the Kenmore Intuitions range from $150-180. There's a cheaper Intuition BU3040 that removes the liftaway mode and usually goes on sale for around $120-130. There's a cheaper Vacmaster UB0302E $100-120 this is same vacuum as the Intuition BU3040 but with less tools and bags included. Another option is to look at the corded stick vacuums. Not the $30 Bissell Featherweights, but the Dyson dupes with a cord. They're even cheaper than the cordless Dyson dupes. Since they are corded they don't have run time limits or battery issues. If you get a corded stick vacuum buy replacement filters to have as backup because they don't stock replacement parts for long. The downside of a corded stick vacuum is it isn't as powerful or have the capacity of an upright and you don't get any cordless convenience. They usually don't stand up and still have a heavy handle weight.

I don't recommend the folding tubes, they add another hose that tends to split and you can always feel a little flex when you are using it. I find extendable/retractable tubes more useful. I have an LG CordZero you need to extend the wand for regular use because retracted it's too short for regular floor use. When I'm vacuuming my stairs I retract the wand to make it easier to get closer to the stairs. A fixed tube will be the most reliable because there are no additional moving parts. I would avoid any Shark vacuums because they are unreliable and unrepairable. Also avoid the 2nd vacuum because these cheap generic vacuums tend break within a year and are also unrepairable. What's your flooring and budget?

Riccar R65. It’s the best stick vac out there. We owned an LG A9. Nice vac but the power head rollers kept breaking. I got tired of returning them to Costco and they stopped carrying them. I’m not paying $150 for a full power head to replace two $.25 rollers on what should be a $10-20 bottom plate. Dysons we’ve known and used all have triggers that fail eventually and they’re ridiculously overpriced for something that’s no better built or serviceable than the LG we had. Miele makes the triflex but the durability reviews are mixed for an expensive vac and I didn’t love the ergonomics on the one we used. The R65 base model is enough for most, but we bought a complete package for about what we might spend on a Dyson. Comes with three heads for carpet, hard surface and upholstery, plus a secondary battery. IMO, the base model should come with the second battery, or at least the dual charging base. Battery life at least has been plenty for us to spot clean about 1000sqft of hard surface and a flight of carpeted stairs every day. The hard surface roller has been great for that. Keeps any kitchen floor residue off the stairs too.

I've only bought one of these Dyson knockoffs before and it worked very well - for the first two years. Then my air quality meter started going off the charts and I found out that the seals and gaskets on it had failed and I was spewing tons of dust into the air every time I vacuumed. It also started to struggle with with suction. The reviews look good because they only measure what the product does in the first days after you get it. I replaced it with an LG A9 and I was blown away by how much better it was.

You want a bagged vacuum. I've had a Dyson, a Bissell, a Dyson knock off, the LG A9, the Miele Duoflex - all bagless and all very loud. My cats will scatter if I turn them on. My bagged Miele on the other hand... they don't even bother getting up from their naps.

I've got both the Lg A9 and V8. Honestly they both do a good job on my hard floors, I get vacuuming done twice as fast as my corded Electrolux.  But take the motorised head off and try to vacuum window sills, baseboards, curtains and the lack of suction power becomes very obvious.  Battery life is ok for me, I get at least 30mins and it's enough for me to cover 100sqm of flooring.  Does require more maintenance than traditional canisters but I can live with that.

This sub will mostly try to lean you away from what it considers a disposable vacuum and into a buy it for life vacuum. The difference generally being complexity in design, gimmicky features, no parts availability and no way to repair once broken. But based on your situation I think a “disposable” vacuum would be just fine. You can use it/beat it up for a few years, move it with you, and not spend a ton. Then down the line maybe consider a buy it for life brand. In that case I would recommend looking at Costco (either in store or online) and getting either the Hoover Onepwr or LG CordZero if you want a cordless vacuum, or a Shark Navigator or Shark Duoclean if you’re ok with a cord. Id personally stay away from Dyson as they tend to be the same disposable quality but with a buy it for life price tag. The exception is the Dyson Ball Animal 3 on sale at Costco right now for $280, but it’s very large which you stated not wanting.

I think the closest BIFL in the cordless market would probably be the LG CordZero. Aside from that you’re probably looking at a 5 years or less lifespan and maybe a battery replacement or two within that timeframe. If you really want a BIFL vacuum, you’d want to look into a bagged unit, and most of this sub will recommend either Miele or Sebo in that market. I personally own a Sebo E3 but also a Shark Apex. I expect the Sebo to last forever and have parts easily available when needed, but I’ve also owned the Shark for around 5 years now with no issues that I keep as a backup/beater vacuum for things I don’t want to use the Sebo for. But for $189 you honestly can’t beat a Shark Navigator from Costco. You can beat the hell out of it and not worry about tearing it up. And the Costco return policy/warranty will help bridge the gap of Sharks truly awful customer service.

I commonly see the claim that cordless vacuum cleaners cannot clean carpet adequately. To be clear, aside from the claim being entirely too general, there is no study or test that has proven that they do not clean carpet or hard floors effectively. In fact, we have reason to believe the opposite through observable performance. I think it is about time we stop peddling false or misleading claims on here. It takes away from valid criticisms of modern cordless vacuum cleaners. With that said, there are cordless stick models that are up to the task in performance and some that are not. I would avoid cheap, no-name ones off Amazon, for example. Most of them have the power of a DustBuster and are of shameful quality. There are some brands that are worth a look, though. If you can find them for something in or near your price range, Dyson makes the V8, V10, V11, and V12 that would work for your situation and be relatively close to your price range. Costco sometimes has great deals on them. The older models like the V8 and V10 fall quite a bit below the newer ones and some other brands in suction and airflow, but should be fine with hard floors and area rugs. LG cordless vacuum cleaners are also solid next to the competition, with models such as the CordZero and CordZero Kompressor that are on [LG's website](https://www.lg.com/us/vacuum-cleaners). Samsung also has an intelligent design department and sells powerful models such as the Jet 75, Jet 85, and Jet 90. I am partial to the LG models since I have more experience with them and they seem to hold up to abuse fairly well, but Samsung sells a fine unit too.

It depends on your needs. I have the LG Cordzero and it’s fine for most cleans and pickups, but I have central vac for when I need a good deep clean. We have a mix of carpet and tile, and before this house had mostly vinyl and hard floors. I’ve just bought a carpet cleaning vacuum as well and amazed at how much dirt was being missed by both that just gets embedded. It really depends on your needs. Maybe just rent a beefier vacuum once a year if you want to get it very clean.
