Sebo K3 or Lindhaus HF6, or alternatively Sebo Felix or Lindhaus Healthcare Pro. Personally I use an old Silver King, but the HF6 is basically a better Silver King.
Lindhaus Healthcare Pro or Sebo X7, also Sebo Dart or Lindhaus Diamante. If you like canisters better, Sebo K3 or Lindhaus HF6.
You could also check out the Lindhaus Healthcare Pro, it's similar to the Felix but IMO better balanced.
If you want a vacuum that cleans carpet well and blows no dust, look into a Lindhaus HF6. One of the lesser-known vacuums, but a stellar performer. Expensive, but also very durable - take care of it and it'll still be running in 35 years. A Miele C3 Complete will give similar results, as would a Sebo K3. If you'd like an upright, the Lindhaus Diamante, Lindhaus Healthcare Pro, Sebo Automatic X7 or Sebo Felix would also be excellent choices.
I'll be the divergent suggestion here and recommend Lindhaus, either the HF6 canister or the Diamante upright. Though Sebo and Miele are also excellent.

Given your mix of laminate, and carpet, long hair/potential fur, and preference for an upright, you could look into the Sebo Felix or Lindhaus Dynamic 300. Both are two-motor designs (one for suction airflow, and one for powering the brushroll for cleaning carpet) The Sebo Felix Premium is a popular recommendation here, but due to its design, it can be a bit heavy in the hand. It also doesn't stand upright if you switch it to the hard floor head The Lindhaus Dynamic/Diamante is a traditional upright design, but you can turn the brushroll off for cleaning hard floors Both machines are BIFL in the sense that the companies tend to have stable model lines, carry spare parts, and are designed for ease of repair Filtration and cleaning ability are top-notch, both have excellent carpet cleaning power, and more than enough suction to handle hard floors If you're looking into canisters, Sebo K3 or E3 Premium
Buy it for Life. Though it doesn't mean it will last a lifetime without breaking. To me, it means that repairs are both possible and economic I had never heard of Lindhaus before I discovered vacuum nerdery. And now I own one and love it. As they're commercial machines, they will be on the no-frills side of things. And you'll need to buy it from shops/dealers selling vacuums to the commercial market Both Sebo and Lindhaus brushrolls will be very easy to untangle. They're made to be easy to remove for you to cut your hair off it regularly
karcher s2 is decent. Also some of the lindhaus commercial varieties. Depends what problems you are experiencing. I’ve had my issues with certain vacuums in different settings so I have quite a few for different situations now.
Stick vacuums are not ideal for whole home cleaning. They are for quick pickups, getting deep under furniture, dusting, cleaning the car -- light duty tasks. For regular cleaning, a corded bagged upright or canister is best, as you discovered. Congratulations on the D4 -- it's a magnificent machine. I have a V12, and any kind of replacement part for it is readily available on eBay or amazon. I find it to be an excellent complement to my Sebo and Lindhaus uprights.
Lindhaus. You gotta look for them, but it’s worth the search. We still have, and still use, the first one we ever bought back in 1996. Actually we gave that to our daughter when she bought her own house several years ago. They are uprights, and do an amazing job on both carpet and hardwood. Of course you turn the brush off when working on wood floors. They have HEPA filters too. I believe they could suck the chrome off the bumper of my old truck. Seriously, Lindhaus makes a truly great vacuum. It sounds German, but the company is based in Northern Italy. Before our first Lindhaus, we had Electrolux, Miele, and others. None of those could measure up to the Lindhaus.
Miele, Sebo, Henry, Lindhaus. Shark and Dyson are garbage. Check out r/vacuumcleaners
The best vacuum money can buy is a Vorwerk, Lindhaus, or Sebo E3. Whether they're the type of vacuum you want is another story.
Versamatic and recently switched to Lindhaus
