I have 2 of these 18v models, the dcl 184 and the handheld dcl 284. The best of them is the handheld dcl284, it has good power, enough accessories, etc. I also have the Bosch that is 20v that has a double cyclone and is much more powerful but it does require frequent cleaning of the filter

Cordless stick vacuums are all more or less disposable, even the expensive ones. The designs are updated frequently and are not made to be repaired, even if you’re able to find parts. I have a Makita cordless which should last a while for quick jobs, but it’s not very powerful. My home vacuum is a 15 year old Miele Swing H1 stick vacuum. It’s corded, but light and powerful, and the bags make everything so much cleaner and more convenient. Personally, I find the cord less annoying than charging. My parents’ heavily used Sebo Airbelt D1 canister vacuum is around 20 years old. Both work perfectly. If I were in the market for a new vacuum, I would buy a Sebo as they are super durable, easily repaired, and very well designed. If I were on a budget, I’d purchase a used Miele. If you want something older, vintage Electrolux vacuums are great once the inevitable deferred maintenance is taken care of. We have a canister vacuum from the seventies at one house and an upright from the nineties at another, both of which are going strong, and both of which have bags and many spare parts readily available.

I have the makita cordless vacuum. It’s great, cheap and really light (also comes in pink btw). Purchased in The Netherlands

For corded, I have an Irish Ohyama model of some variety I bought 9 years ago that still does the job just fine when needed (though we mostly use a Makita cordless these days since it's more convenient).

first time anyone here has recommended shark based on how easy it is to get spare parts. They are notorious for not being available or in stock. I'm partial to makita. Their 18v stick vac has been available for ages and you can get (easily) just about any part for it. Early models (don't) suck but the latest are reportedly a bit better.

The very latest 18v is much better than the earlier stuff. Almost up to the XGT but less runtime of course. XGT is great but pricey and less flexible as a system overall. . Just looking at suction: Old LXT: 54mbar New LXT: 180mbar XGT: 210mbar Looking at air flow: Old LXT: 1.4 cubic meters a minute New LXT: 1.0 cubic meters a minute XGT: 1.2 cubic meters a minue. So XGT is definitely best but might not be worth the premium or loosing the flexibility of the XGT system. Also if you need a brush roller for carpeting it's only available on the XGT CL004G. Also none of them are really great vs dyson etc.

The 180/181/182 are basically the same, just different switch designs. It's fine for quick cleanups in the kitchen, but it's not that powerful. There's a cyclone attachment you can get for it that makes it work better and doesn't clog up the filter as fast, but it adds girth to the whole unit and it's pretty shit anyway because it's friction fit attachment. It doesn't attach too tightly so eventually it works itself loose and falls off while you're vacuuming. The low tech solution is to duct tape around the pipe so that it's a tighter fit. Don't need to tape both parts together. Pony up for the 280/282/284/286 brushless and you'll be much happier in the long run I only got my 180 from a Christmas sale deal last year because I didn't feel like spending too much money on it. I kind of regret that choice. Don't make that mistake I did

But it'll still be more powerful than the 180 with superior clip on attachments. The 286 is probably the way to go though because of its built in cyclone canister lol

I got a simple Makita stick vacuum because of this, it uses makita batteries

Not the most stylish vacuum, but I got a Makita 18v brushless vacuum, it works with any Makita 18v battery from their power tools. So far so good.
