You will need an electric powered brush model if you have carpet. We bought a Miele canister model from Costco and it's a beast. r/vacuumcleaners is where you should be heading next. Also if you have a local vacuum repair shop - go there and they will hook you up as well. They aren't trying to push unreliable not great value big name brands like Dyson and might have refurbished options within your budget. They rely on their reputation to stay in business (unlike big box stores)

Depends on the pile of the carpet personally, if it’s anything like the UK short pile the Miele pet models with the turbo bush is decent. We have the c2 cat and dog which it replaced a shark and vax upright. The suction on lowest is more than both of them, max it’s a beast. We also use have a short hair dog so the hair sticks into the carpet, not a problem for the Miele but anything more than short carpet it won’t hold a candle to a power head.

If you have short pile carpet, the turbo brush is great so you won’t be disappointed with the c3. I was going to get a felix myself but read tons of forum posts where people regretted buying them due to the weight and manoeuvrability they all loved the cleaning side just not the form. For comparison we have a shark and a vax upright with a powered brush and frankly the suction is crap on them so even though they might agitate the carpet better but sucking the dirt out is a nope. They often leave dog hair and specs of stuff all over the carpet let alone dirt/dust in the carpet. The Miele c2 cat and dog we now have cleans right up after them. Suction is on another level entirely.

Had a cordless shark and it was crap. Replaced with the Miele C2 (cat and dog version) and I have never had a hoover like it. It is fantastic. I would rate it higher than the Henry and as it is a bit smaller it gets caught up a bit less and easier getting up and down stairs. For hoover bags just buy the cheaper Amazon equivalent. But if it must be out of those 2 I would go with hazza.

Miele compact C2 cat & dog. Around $400 when it's on special at briscoes but my god it's worth it. Have been through too many cheapy and not so cheap bagless, including Dyson and I wont do it again.

Why the need for two vacuums though? What need will a stick vacuum fill? Miele C2 cat and dog, $500 from briscoes picks up every last bit of pet hair out of the carpet and is very quiet. Bagless vacuums just spread dust and allergens all over the show.

Wdym all mieles are 5 years warranty and the main difference in between the c2 and c3 is the design, motor is basically the same, c3 only has 6 ft more of electric cord, its all the same shit, just over marketed, safely take the c2 cat and dog instead of a c3 excellence

I spent close to €500 on a Dyson 4 years ago and it died on me last night (RIP!). But it was on the blink for months, ill never rebuy. My next handheld will be Shark, they’re supposed to be brilliant. For plug ins it used be Henry but the EU changed maximum wattage to 900 and it scuppered the power behind Henry which was 1200 watts at the time . The hotel Henry hoovers were all pre 2017 and will last a lifetime if cared for. My dad has a Meile C2 and it’s incredible. Would take the pepper off your dinner it’s that thorough!

I got a Miele C2 in ~2017 after reading all his AMA’s. Now I’m reminded I need to get it tuned-up for maintenance. The suction is strong as ever but the only downside is buying the vacuum bags which became a pain after I got a hairy dog.

I tried to save a few bucks by getting Amazon dupe cheaper bags and of course, it easily overfilled and exploded the dirt inside the vacuum cleaner. TLDR: buy Miele bags only

Vacuum wars is a paid shark shill and not to be trusted. Hell Chris even appeared in a shark commercial. BIFL vacuums absolutely exist. They’re corded and bagged made by brands like Miele and Sebo.

Agreed with the C1 cat and dog rec (it can do your carpets very well) but I wouldn’t buy from Amazon and I would not recommend the bagless version.

I’d still stick with the C1 it’s made in Germany. The C2 (while still great) is made in China. If you are only using it for hard floor get the C1 pure suction. If you want it to do carpets too, C1 cat and dog.

If you have carpet and kids, I wouldn’t switch to a cordless, I tried that and it didn’t work. A couple of options to consider would be Sebo Felix (or Dart plus parquet tool). A smaller canister like the Sebo e/k series or Miele c2 (would likely fall out of budget). I would try and stick it out with the c3 and get a cheap cordless (just get whatever is on sale at Canadian Tire or Costco) to use for quick daily pickups and use the c3 every week or so.

Miele C2. I have had mine for 5+ years now. Absolutely brilliant, has excellent suction power, good filters and multiple nozzle heads. Dream.

I can say the Miele C1,2, and 3 bags or like $45 for the XL ones and it’s 8 bags or for you, a year supply. though you might only go through 5-6 cause they do compact the dust pretty well. And it comes with 2 pre motor filters and 2 post motor filters. So you get to change it’s primary filter every time you change bags, the pre motor filter which is what keeps the motor clean and running for a long time every 4 bags and the post motor filter which is the the last stand filter for anything that might have made it through every 4 bags. Also air flowing through a MERV 13 filter several times is the equivalent to a hepa filter cause they filter the same .3 micron particles and hepa filters 99% and MERV 13 filters 75-85%. So this would be close if not better than “hospital grade filtration.” And if you must they sell a hepa grade post motor filter as well for most models. So bagged would be great for your needs, and for an extra $45 you get a machine that will last at least twice if not up to four times as long as any baggless vacuum. I also own a Dyson stick for the past 2 years and my dad owns a Dyson animal ball for the past 15 years and they work pretty darn well. Shark might not last as long but the don’t leak dust either and is cheaper from what I’ve seen so its also is a viable option. Best of luck!!

Miele Miele Miele. The C2 is flawless, ALWAYS buy a bagged one. Bagless are shite. Bagged have absolutely no maintenance, just change the bag every few months, never lose power.

The C2 has the same motor and attachments and is cheaper for any future people reading this! They're bloody great yokes.

I agree with Miele! My Shark (TruePet) was also just not cutting it for the hardwoods, and the turbo brush attachment was actually scratching it (though I’ll chalk that up to user error, I shouldn’t have tried it).  I second Miele! I did a ton of my own research trying to figure out the best brands, but then I came across [this vacuum comparison spreadsheet ](https://www.reddit.com/user/lacking_foyer48/comments/1lj76h3/vacuum_cleaners_compared_comprehensive_datasheet/)on another subreddit and it made things so much easier. I can’t take credit, but after comparing the Miele models, I went with a C2 because it has a really wide hardwood attachment. 

I always tell people who want a Miele to buy a used German made model. My C2 was German made and $200 on FBMP. No manufacturer sends work to China to improve quality.

I have a Miele C2 and think it’s just satisfactory. Owned a few Dysons before that and still unhappy. Still on the search for a vacuum that can pick up hair with ease.

Find a C2 or C3 model with the SBB 300-3 floor brush. Nothing will clean floors better than that. The newer version of the C2 is the Guard S1. The newer version of the C3 is the Guard M1. The Guard L1 is an entirely new vacuum, and is meant to be a lighter version of the C3 / M1, but the L1 has a smaller bag. Edit: they all filter really really well and are sealed systems, and if you add on the HA50 hepa filter (make sure it’s the genuine one from Miele as it’s H13 hepa) it’s top notch. Edit 2: the compact C1 is a also good choice, just NOT the Classic C1 (also known as S2 which is the older version).

The D4 moves really well, but yes is a larger vacuum. I have a 525 squr foot apartment and own a D4 cause YOLO. The Miele vacs like the C2, C3, Guard S1, M1, L1 will overall be lighter and easier to use. The D4 is essentially a powerhouse vacuum. The mentioned miele's will have the same airflow but in a smaller package. Miele's new equivalent to the D4 is the L1 or M1 / C3 Series. Edit: My recommendation would be the Miele if you're worried about the weight of the canister. The D4 is by no means bad that way, and I would 100% argue it's easier to use than some other brands like kenmore, etc, but the Miele's will be easier to use as far as the canister goes and may be more encouraging that way. Just make sure to get the RIGHT ATTACHMENTS!

No worries, and good luck with whichever you choose. If I might just add a couple more notes, hopefully not to confuse but to assist! I've owned a Miele (Compact C2) for 9 years now and have absolutely loved having a variable speed motor, as would come with the C3. I use my vacuum for lots of functions such as dusting, upholstery, curtains, hard floors, carpets etc...having a variable speed motor is invaluable imo for this to ensure the correct amount of suction. Henry is 1 speed, though it does have a suction relief valve on the handle, which is a cruder way of adjusting the suction at the nozzle, won't offer as much variation but would still probably be ok. The turbo head that comes with the Miele C3 cat and dog is generally considered one of the best I believe. I have its predecessor and it works superbly on my carpet. My understanding is that the Henry turbo head is more likely to slow down. However on short pile it should probably be ok. I'm admittedly biased towards Miele because I own one and have been very happy with it, but whichever choice you make I'm sure you'll be pleased. Numatic are a British company who manufacture here so you'll also have that feel good element of buying British if you go for Henry and if that matters to you!

The assertion that they "got rid of the pre motor filter" is just...wrong though? The S1 and M1 use the same fabric type pre motor filter that has been used in the C series. The L1 has admittedly got rid of that in favour of a mesh, but it's wrong to say they've all lost the pre motor filter. Also it's only the L1 that has the display. If you don't like/want/need it, the M1 and S1 are available. The new bags fix the issue that was there with the C series of people not seating the bag properly when closing the bag compartment. And really why would anyone want to be using generic third party bags anyway when you've invested in a premium vacuum? I bought some once for my C2 compact and they were crap compared to the official Miele bags. Not saying that Miele are beyond criticism at all, but I think it's fair to actually be reasonable with ones criticism. This having been said when my C2 dies I'll be getting a Sebo because I would like a powered head.

A Kenmore canister would easily fall under your budget and have a lot of the ergonomic features you need, like lightweight, cord reel, foot pedals, and fingertip controls. Tbh any canister these days have foot pedals and cord rewinds. I'm a Miele fan, but sebos are a better value. If you can get the Sebo k3 from a dealer (usually for under $700) that would be your best bet. You'd use your dominant hand to maneuver the floor head while using your non dominant to pull at the hose to reposition the canister as you go. If you don't have two hands at your disposal pulling the canister and working in sections while surrounding the canister also works. Bonus points if your place is the perfect size for the canister to use only one plug centrally. These canisters tend to have less weight in hand than even stick models (other than the upright style stick models). These canisters will also last 20 years, with each bag filling up every 3-9 months depending on if you have pets and how many people you have at home. Bagless vacuums require deep cleaning and filter maintenance that will aggravate allergies with the aerosolization of fine dust. with bagged models, you simply toss and replace the bag every few months, and replace the filter every 4ish bags (which works out to 2-3 years for a smaller home/family). Sure it's a disposable, but they're made from recycled fibers already and it's a better prospect than buying a subpar machine every few years. It is also just more hygienic. And are the only option for folks with the worst allergies. Sebos work excellently and have good filtration, however Mieles, with their HEPA filter do filter slightly better and function better and more quietly, however they are more expensive. Any Miele with the parquet twister floor tool and seb217 would be right for you. I recommend buying it from a dealer as you can mix and match the floor heads. From a dealer you can get the c3 Kona with the seb217 (instead of the 228 bc it's lighter) for under $850 on sale, and there are sales. You might be able to get the c1 homecare model for cheaper, so ask about that. The cat & dog model is cheaper but you'll want the HEPA filter. Also Miele bags & filters are cheaper than sebos, even if youre using Miele HEPA with the full size machines. Sebo parts are only sold by dealers and they're very expenny. The Miele allergy pack is 8 bags and a heap filter for $55 (~retail for the Miele HEPA or Sebo filters alone). Other than that, I'd say lookout on the used marketplaces for good deals. I got my $1800 Miele for $300, so it's possible. Good luck.

TL;DR: go to a Miele dealer (use their website to find one) buy the C3 homecare+ for full home cleaning, demote the Dyson to quick jobs, never look back. If you have gen5 detect money (and interest) buy the vacuum that made Dyson increase their filtration standard: a Miele. I thought it was funny Dyson did this as it retroactively pulled the facade off of their previous marketing. For the best performance on hard floors you'll want a machine with their parquet twister attachment, it's what made me fall in love with Mieles in middle school. Currently it works like a dream for my kitty and her ways. (And that original one still works for my parents 17 years later). Technically Mieles cheapest machine, the c1 classic, functions just as well on hard floors when using the same tool as their most expensive machine, the c3 brilliant. They have the same motor, use the same bags, and have the same filter media, but the c3s are MUCH quieter, fully sealed, have bigger bag compartments, and store their tools onboard. The c2 models are a happy in between. They're fully sealed, are quieter but not as quiet as the c3, and also have the onboard tools. Contemporary c2s are made in China with German motors. They're just as well built as the German plastic machines. Technically they're better built because Miele innovated on the s5000 shell which became the c2. Having taken apart both, the c2s construction is more like a brilliant than the c1 classic. As of right now, only Mieles c3s are built completely in Germany. All their bagged models use German made motors but the remainder are formed in China. All the bagless models are completely made in China. No knock against Chinese manufacturing, it's excellent obviously, but that's the T with Mieles current production chain for vacuums. I like my first gen triflex even. Because your budget is $600 (medium-high) and you have carpets, that complicates my recommendation: If you're buying a machine you should buy the one that fully encapsulates your use and use it how you like. Don't purposefully buy something that does less when you can use more, and you can afford more. No matter what you buy it'll outlive and outperform the gen 5. A straight suction Miele might even marginally outperform it on your carpets... Then, you have the Dyson Gen 5 vs the v12/15 (which tells me you care about "the best", technology, and convenience physical constraints be damned) which points me to recommend you Mieles top of line canisters: the c3 electro models (Kona, Marin, Brilliant/ homecare, homecare e, homecare +). They come standard with the electro carpet brush and the parquet twister, as well as the HEPA filter. The Marin adds some longevity and QOL electronics like a filter life timer, parking shutoff switch, and auto suction as well as the seb236, Mieles low profile and led-lit carpet brush. The Brilliant, the one I think you should get, has what the Marin has plus fingertip controls & a display. This makes switching surfaces and tools on the fly so much easier. It also kinda obviates the parking switch. You should buy them from a vacuum store, miele dealer, to get the best deal and get the homecare models with the longer warranty and more tools. From a dealer, you can likely get the Kona for $850, Marin for $1100, and brilliant for $1500, but you might have a harder time finding that brilliant deal as it kinda pads the coffers. Like I said, the c1 classic and a parquet twister will get you the same clean, but it's time to demote the Dyson and get a real vacuum as your primary. The Dyson can be used for quick runs and it'll thank you for it (by living longer than 5). Your carpets will also likely thank you for it. Ik I blew past your budget, but it really seems like you can afford it so 🤷🏾‍♂️ Sebos have better warranties, and some like them better, but they're marginally louder, less powerful, and filter less well than a Miele. And when comparing to a c3, Mieles bags & filters are cheaper in their allergy bundle. Mieles also have a better feel in hand... Which is the whole point imo. You can likely try a Sebo wherever you go to buy that Miele homecare+ 😘 so make sure to try it out too. I think Mieles parquet twister and seb236 are better than sebos articulating floor tool or et1. But that's my opinion. The fully in price recommendation for hard floors would the c3 gala or the c2 hard floor. Marginally in budget but all inclusive machine would be the c1 centennial (if you can find it for $650 and buy the parquet twister). Another option, but a little stretch is the c1 homecare with electro brush (only available from Miele dealers). Even an abused Miele will last a decade. Get the nicest one you can afford, take care of it, and have a perfectly clean home for more than 20 years. No joke. Also, your Dyson is leaving stuff in the carpets that an electro Miele will capture. Your first bag will fill fast (as does everyone's unless they already had a Miele/Sebo).

I'm joking haha. I have a miele c3 currently, and also have had the older version of what the c2 became, as well as an electrolux. I am very much not a fan of disposable dysons or sharks 😂

I currently have an upright (salsa and before that jazz) and have also had a canister (C2). But dragging it around was far too obnoxious. I’ve been using a shark for 2 years now as I said and I have yet to have to pull it apart. The Miele I just replaced the belt housing and mount on within the last month or 2 and I’ve already had to pull it apart again to yank hair out. So no I won’t have the same issue. Maybe other issues but not the same one. The way belt on the shark works is different. And like I said didn’t have to do it with my ProTeam or Sebo either. The way Miele has the belt an inch into the roll isn’t conducive to long hair I guess. It sucks it into the housing then wraps around the roller gear and eventually the motor gear as well. ***whoops replied from a different device hence the different name***

Go miele. You won't go back. We have a miele c2 and I've never experienced a more powerful, capable vacuum. Also since it's a bag vac it's incredibly easy to repair. Stay away from the more common brands like Dyson, vax, and shark. They're all different flavours of meh. Henry is fine but not great for doing your whole house, they're very heavy and unwieldy.

I got a C2 for around $500 on Costco a few years back. Yes, expensive but it was worth it. Costco return policy helped.

Because you don’t have the correct Miele. You specifically need the Miele cat and dog that comes with the **228 electro brush**. You also need to ensure the electro brush is actually turned on which is a common mistake. Even after vacuuming wall to wall carpet with my Dyson, I did a follow through with the Miele and the amount of pet hair it picked up on high pile carpet was astounding. Dysons do a **terrible** job with high pile carpet and pet hair.

If money isn’t an issue, I always recommend overbuying. If you have a pet and a rug they like, I say that alone makes an electro head worth it. But there are always carpets or rugs in houses that benefit from electro brushes. With that said: the Homecare+ comes with the flatter Miele power head that has lights, but it’s the less reliable Miele power head. It has known issues. I’d steer you towards the Kona Powerline or Cat & Dog Powerline. You give up the light, but that power head is made by Wessel Werk and it’s super easy to service with less breakdowns.

I agree. I’ve had many, and I honestly think they are really good at marketing. I recently bought the Miele cat and dog and it’s so much better. I’m also happy to be back to a bagged vacuum.

I own both an older and a newer Miele Cat & Dog vacuum. The older model is noticeably more powerful, though both are similar in terms of noise.

I just found one at the goodwill bins, the pet hair version with power head. I paid about $8. Took it to local Miele dealer to service because I didn’t feel like cleaning it myself. Cost me another $100. I feel like I won the lottery! I’ve been wanting one for three years.

I have both the canister vac for pets and the cordless for pets and I love them. They are on the pricier side, but worth every penny. The canister has so many tools that you can clean the drapes (they get hair on them, too), under the sofa cushions, it goes mostly flat so you can go under furniture. It’s the best clean I have had with a canister. Also, I have to use it with my bad back. I use it every week or once every two weeks. I also have the latest model stick vac. I love it when I am not using the canister. Use the floor attachment from the canister for the stick vac on hardwood floors and it works great. There is not a lot of room in the basket, but you will die when you see what one room has. Lol. The basket is easy to empty.

I highly recommend Classic Vacuums (classicvac.com). I bought something there that was not suitable for our situation and they went the extra mile to guide us and exchange it for something great. For us it was a Miele Cat and Dog. We love it.

That one has the pet hair head? The Miele cat and dog vacuum was excellent 15 years ago with a big shedding dog on carpet.

I finally gave in and bought a Miele Cat and Dog and…it’s actually great. House feels cleaner after using it. Sucks up hair from our two dogs. Love the attachments and the pet roller brush is super handy for doing the car. I dust with it, use the stick/hard floor attachment to vacuum my textured walls.

Miele Cat and Dog. It's pricey but I've tried them all and it is an absolute workhorse. Had it about ten years now and it shows no signs of breaking. It works really well on carpets and hard floor and you can buy generic bags for it. I've 3 cats and two dogs, mix of those short hairs that stick into everything and tumbleweeds of long hair.

Unfortunately I think it depends on the carpet. I used to have a cheap pet Vax vacuum and it did an excellent job. Then I moved to a house with thick cheap carpet that was full of static and everything stuck to it. I ended up getting the pet meile but it was was still a lot of effort. The turbo head is good and sometimes I used the wood floor head instead as the brush dislodged fur from the carpet. It could be worth looking into one of those steam clean vacuums? Good luck

Throwing out an alternative option; A Miele Dog & Cat cylinder vac. I've had mine for 12 years, and works as good now as day one. Designed for carpet and hard flooring specifically. Plenty of refurbished ones on eBay that have been fully cleaned, for a fraction of the price of a new one. Though, whatever you pick, wait til Black Friday!

Which Miele is it? I've got one for home and I love it. It's the cat and dog one amd I'm not using it for clients as it's a bad vacuum. But as far as the brand goes, it's top tier. Can't recommend Miele highly enough!!!

Ik heb de cat & dog versie (want die is mooi rood) en de roterende opzetstuk twv 80 bij Miele is echt een verademing op tapijt. Opzet stukjes onder de motorkap en stofzakken zijn super.

Hier nog een fan. Alleen geen fan van de roterende borstel, maar dat kan zijn omdat ik langharige katten heb; de haren slaan erom heen en zijn lastig te verwijderen. Het langd snoer is echt geweldig.

If your dog sheds, then the Miele Cat & Dog is the best choice. But it is a bit on the heavy side if you are carrying it up and down stairs So 2nd on the list is a Shark. We have the Miele, but as we have a Cockerpoo we use the Shark all the time now. In fact we bought a 2nd one to live permanently upstairs. Under no circumstances would I buy a Dyson. Or Die-Soon as we call them here. Too many friends have had problems with them.

We use Miele Cat & Dog vacuum, it works pretty well. The other trick is to brush your dog daily. I'm a big fan of the German Acti-Vet brush line, they're professional groomer level tools and absolutely worth the money. Aside from those, it's a matter of minimising fabric surfaces and choosing fabrics that don't grab fur quite that badly. Velvet is out, shiny sleek polyester curtains in.

Second the Miele cat & dog. Had a Dyson it couldn’t handle the floof.

I've just got a Miele cat&dog but I've got two kids and a 4 bed house. Don't rate Dyson, looked at a Henry but I read that the pipe bits come apart easily and I can't be doing with that. The Miele is simple to use and lightweight. Does need bags but on a small flat, one should last you ages.

Yeah I have a Miele cat&dog I have abused it significantly, big hairy dog, 2 house moves with redecorating (paint wallpaper etc) and I’m not careful with it at all cos if I’m hoovering I’m grumpy. Still going strong.

I agree with this list. I have a V15 detect and it is what I use 95% of the time. It is just so convenient to grab it off the charger and be cleaning up a mess 1 second later. However, I bought it expecting it to last 10 years, probably with a battery replacement along the way. If I were to own only 1 vacuum, the Miele cat&dog is what I would have bought based on reviews. Call me lazy, but I bet my house would be less clean if that was my only vacuum. Dragging it out, dealing with the hose and cord, getting an extension cord or moving the car if I want to use it outside are all small but annoying barriers to quick cleans. I can take my Dyson off the charger, suck up a little spill, even step outside and empty it into the trash by the time I'd have a corded vacuum ready to go. If you live in a small house or apartment, the battery Dysons can be your only vacuum, but I think for larger homes you still want a corded machine. For what it is worth, my other vacuum is a DC24 from 2004ish, and while I didn't expect it to last all that long either, it still works good as new. I replaced the hose once about 10 years ago after I tore it. I like how modular it is so it can be taken all apart and cleaned and parts can be replaced like Legos.

I bought a Miele Cat & Dog hair machine this month in the black friday sale, it wasn't so bad price wise. Very good for the quality though. Loved using it. It replaces our Henry, which I was finding just a bit too clunky and heavy for regular use.

Miele is amazing. We got a pet fur specific one last year on an awesome Black Friday sale via Amazon. We have four pets (two dogs and two cats), and three of them are crazy shedders, so I was specifically looking for a good vacuum for fur. This is the best vacuum I've ever had. If you are in the USA and can hold off a month, you might find a great sale for Miele over Thanksgiving weekend. If you are interested in the model we got, let me know and I can look it up. I think we spent about $400-500 USD and it was probably typically an $800 vacuum. ETA: Sorry, I should have mentioned that, in my experience, the pet fur Miele is also great for dust/allergens, which is why I mentioned it!

I’ve had a Dyson. I’ve had a Hoover. I’ve tried a robot vacuum (although I admittedly should have got a better one of these). Hands down though, the best is the Miele Pet Pro. The power of that thing is unmatched. I wouldn’t buy anything else when it comes to heeler hair.

Have you tried washing or replacing the filter? We actually went from a Miele for pets to a Dyson and it's miles better. Have had it for a few years now and the suction hasn't really gone down at all. We just rinse the filter every couple of weeks, it's amazing how much crap comes out. Takes forever to dry properly though. With regards to scratching the floors I think it's just a case of making sure to use the right attachment and position on the brushes?

I have a small dyson ball which is great for carpets, I have a miele pet which I use on wooden floors and tight corners etc and my poor henry is relegated to being the shed vacuum 🤣 Like I said all my vacuums were bought second hand, I think the most I paid was £20 for the miele and they all work perfectly.

Thank you for your reply! I did try a corded Miele in 2017, which was allegedly the most powerful vacuum they had at the time (within the 900 W limit, of course). I was not impressed, at least not enough to actually buy it, even though it was much cheaper than they are nowadays. I'm sure they have gotten better over the last 7 years, but by how much? And is it really enough to defend the insane price tag? I understand that this price level is "the new normal", and therefore by definition not "insane" anymore, but still – I'm having a really hard time dishing out all that money without getting something absolute premium in return. And nowadays, I don't.

Sounds like you are on the right path. For what it's worth, we have loved our miele's. We have both a floor canister that stays on the lower level and a rechargeable stick for everywhere else.

So that confirms it for me... I'd just go with a cheap one for quick cleanups at this point. They all seem to be awful so why spend extra? I have a corded bagged canister miele that has been solid as a regular vacuum. These cordless bagless ones all seem to be garbage and not good for deep cleaning.

Bagged vacuums are needed if you have significant allergies. Once I’ve removed something from my home, I don’t want to have to breath it again when I empty the vacuum canister. I actually have three - a bagged, corded canister (Miele), for deeper cleaning; a bagged cordless (Hoover OnePower) for quick pickups on carpet; and a bagless cordless (Dyson V12) for quick pickups on hard surfaces. This seems to keep my house the cleanest. IMO the Dyson doesn’t have enough suction power for carpet even for quick pickups.

I would say that anyone whose allergies are significant enough that they are concerned about them would benefit from a bagged vacuum with good sealing and a HEPA filter, that also does well at deep cleaning not only floors but upholstery, curtains etc. That’s why I have my Miele. If they are not concerned, they can use whatever vacuum they want. I’ve had people on this sub say they think allergens don’t go into the air when you empty out a bagless vacuum. If someone like that has allergies but prefers a bagless that doesn’t do a good job on carpet, it’s their life.

Well,I did it. I walked into a vacuum cleaner store and repair shop just to see this Sebo upright people refer to. I had already ordered a Kenmore BU4050 based on reviews although I have never seen one. I've been through every vacuum type imaginable in the last - ahem - 40 years. Starting with Electrolux canister on glider rails, a family hand-me-down. Dirt Devil tiny little canister. Hoover upright, Sanitaire commercial upright, Miele stick vac with removable handheld dustbuster thing, Miele canister. Had a Dyson V5 for when the canister was too heavy to pull out. Shark Navigator Pet upright - nimble, easy to use, went under bed - I liked it for a long time but slider for floor type change got stuck and it all those plastic parts got a little rickety. I learned: While cordless is quick and easy, it's also weak suction. Sanitair upright cleaned well on carpet but no accessories. Dysons are pretty colored plastic but all marketing, hurts my wrist, went through 2 batteries, just top heavy, and poor suction. Miele corded stick vacuum had very strong suction but was too heavy and center of mass is midway up so awkward unless you are very strong and was not self standing. Miele canister is great but all those accessories take up a lot of space and I'm over moving canisters around and banging the wall. Bagless was good as a novelty but so messy - the vacuum itself attracted dust and emptying always led to some dust on me. So I wanted a bagged, corded, self-standing, upright that had a low center of gravity, was nimble, no too heavy, and could go under the bed. Even though the sales guy was enthusiastic and informative but not pushy, the Sebo Felix sold itself. I bought the Sebo Felix even though I wasn't going there to buy, just see it. It does every thing I want and is much quieter. 10 year warranty, locally serviced by "Onyx" dealer \[that's what they call official dealers\], give loaner vacs if it takes more than 3 days. The store has been there 26 years, first the father and now the son owns it. They repair every brand of vacuum but only sell Sebo, Miele, and some in-the-wall systems. When I think of all the money I've spend on vacuums .... The good ones were Electrolux, Miele, Sanitaire, and for a while the Shark impressed me. Now I hope the Sebo will be my last vacuum. $700 US, price goes up $200 on September 25 due to tariffs. Dealer said he's sold 17 of them this month from special orders I will return the Kenmore BU4050 unopened when it arrives.

Twenty seven years ago we purchased a Eureka canister that broke within a year. We ended up with a Miele. That thing still runs and I use it to clean my unfinished basement twice a year. My new Miele canister lives on my first floor for hardwood and my Sebo upright in s upstairs for carpeting. The Sebo is heavy but it’s a beast that will definitely outlive me. I now have two very cheap cordless vacuums that I use like Dustbusters. I’ve never understood why people buy that Dyson crap. There are complaints everywhere. There’s a difference between a company that spends money on engineering and quality and one that spend it on advertising. Dyson spends it on advertising. I’d vote for Miele everyday.

The canister is superior for vacuuming furniture, drapes, blinds and other things that accumulate dirt. I use the canister for actual cleaning & my stick for quick pickups. Go cheap with the stick & buy the Miele.

My ex didn't like dragging around the canister vacuum I bought in 2005 and would buy a new Dyson or Shark stick vac every year. My Miele outlasted my marriage 💃🏽

I have mine on a long enough extension cord that it can cover the entire first floor without unplugging. I suppose an upright would be easier but these canisters do such a good job. I vacuum the kitchen and bathrooms even. I bought them from eBay. I have no idea why anybody would sell a vacuum that works perfectly but they do.

Hardwood floors here. Dyson upright lasted... 9 years, I just looked up when we bought it. It just failed, and it basically outlasted our cats. I was using it a few times a week, sometimes quite heavy use. It's the ball one, animal something. I used it to vacuum up stray litter - I'd fill the receptacle area twice in a single vacuum, 11 litter boxes in one area, 3 in another, so lots of litter got scattered on the floor. Most of our house is hardwood or tile or whatever, not a lot of carpet. Warning - it pulls in so hard that it doesn't move on carpet, except commercial welcome mat type stuff which we have under the litter boxes. What was nice about the Dyson was that I could leave the vacuum at the bottom of the stairs and do the entire stairs with the narrow nozzle because the hose tube thing was so long. Also no bags. Was a bit noisy, and heavy to lug around. We only had to wash it out every now and then. Seems like motor burnt out, or something. We have a Miele canister now, but I haven't had to deal with 8 cats worth of hair, just 1. We got it with the single use bags but got a reusable one, and I've emptied it twice now (from one vacuuming of litter and such). It's very quiet - I often turn it off by accident when it's running - and lightweight. 2 filters and 1 bag, so lots of stuff to replace on a regular basis. It was so quiet I was worried it wouldn't work well, but I've been pleasantly surprised with it. It's on par with the Dyson. Hate the Shark. Used it at work (almost 5 years), virtually useless, and we don't have cats there (lol). Two locations, 4 vacuums. They just don't pull up stuff, don't do anything. They were rated really good by Consumer Reports, but my experience with them was extremely poor. Two failed at the places where I worked, so I ordered 2 more, hoping that the bad ones were just one offs. I'd have to run over the same bit of leaf or whatever a few times to pick it up. I overhauled them etc but no better. New ones that I got for the store (I bought one for one location, then another for the other), same experience. I told the store management not to order them, to find something else. Had bagless Bissels. They burned out after about 5-6 months. I worked for a while at a place that sold them so I bought them somewhat regularly. Felt like a waste of materials and landfill so went for the Dyson after going through maybe 6-8 Bissels. Normally I'm a "buy it once the right way" kind of person, but for some reason I went through a zillion Bissels. The Dyson was a "buy it once the right way" and I hope the Miele is too.

Yep, I can confirm this. We exclusively used a stick vacuum for \~5 years until I finally bit the bullet and bought a Miele. We filled up the bag in a single day before I had even finished all the rooms. I was disgusted that that much stuff had been stuck in our carpet that whole time.

Depends on the Dyson. If it was an upright (especially bagless) it was likely very loud and also not as efficient. These Miele canister vacuums are literally quiet enough that you can hold a normal volume conversation with someone while you clean.

Going off your requirements including 80% carpet 20% hard floors, 2 cats, reliable and easy to repair: you’re looking at $550+. So Sebo Dart or Felix if you want an upright or Miele canister.

When I bought my newest vacuum, I went to Consumer Reports. I use them for so many things! They recommended my microwave that has been working for 21 years… Anyway, I used them recently (a year or so ago) for vacuums, their top rated one was a Miele canister model. I’ve only ever used upright models, but I splurged (horrifically expensive) and I’m completely amazed. I’m addicted to vacuuming now. I will have this vacuum for the rest of my life. I replaced an old Dyson DC21 with the C3, and I'll tell you, the Miele canister is way easier to drag around than the heavy clunky old Dyson ever was.

It's just simple physics. Internals clogs due to how they're made meaning they dinner then later break. Batteries also fail soon. But yourself a good canister vacuum they'll last for life, like the Sebo or Miele. Both made in Germany. The Sebo bags are cheap and are winning all the awards nowadays. Great machine for $500.

Two words - Miele vacuum. I have mine since 1994, only have had to buy dust bags and a replacement round detail brush as I wore out the bristles on the original one. Mieles have a multi stage HEPA system that traps a lot of dust. I have a canister style comes with a regular head for hard surfaces like wood or tile floors and a turbo head for rugs. It has amazing suction and the dust bags are designed so when you remove them a sliding mechanism seals the bag so no dust. They aren’t cheap but I’d buy one again with no hesitation

Pricey but worth it - Miele. I bought mine in 1994, no repairs, no loss of suction. Multiple HEPA filters, large dust bags that slide close on removal so no dust everywhere. I have a canister model, flooring is hardwood, tile and area ( oriental style) rugs. There’s a turbo head for carpeting that really cleans deep.

I have a CXT vacuum at home. I originally bought it as a way to trick my toddler into helping me clean, but I've found that it's great as a quick, convenient cleaning tool. However, it doesn't really suffice on its own. I keep a Miele canister for serious cleaning jobs and have robot vacuuming running daily as well. I also have mostly hardwood flooring and low pile rugs - heavier carpeting would also not be good for the Makita. It has its place in the right ecosystem.

I’m allergic to cats and have 2 anyway. I have two robot vacuums - one for each floor of the house that run on a schedule. I also have a Miele canister vacuum that I use for the furniture a couple times a week and anywhere the robots can’t get to. I have an air purifier also. Using pet wipes routinely on the cats helps reduce the dander also. They do not sleep with me but they do like to lay on my bed during the day but never near my pillows. I pet them all the time but always wash my hands immediately afterward. I refuse to get rid of my cats. I’ll deal with the consequences.

I have my parents old Miele that is around 30 years or more too. My partner likes the dyson stick but I still think the Miele does a better job

I tired of low Dyson quality and opted for a Miele canister vac. It’s no stick vac but it really works and is likely to last a long time. No more Dyson for me, and no more wasting money on crap stick vacs that don’t really work like plug in vacs.

I’m in the Miele camp. Mine is about 10 years old and still going strong. I’ve had to replace parts over the years but that comes with the territory. All of my clients have hard flooring and some rugs scattered throughout, so the canister works well for me. I just have the carpet attachment that runs on the suction from the vac, and it’s fine. I’m not dealing with heavy pet hair however. They also have models that feature an electric powered carpet head but those start to get very pricey. I rarely have to mess with the canister. Miele is a different kind, it’s designed much better than “normal” ones that drive me nuts. The attachments are easy to access and change out, and I can literally do ceiling to floor maintenance with them. Cobwebs in the corner? It can reach. Need to dust top of the door trim and baseboards? Easy peasy. And I’m short, only 5’3”. I do not understand how yall use an upright for whole house cleaning. Every one I’ve ever used, I had to fight the terrible little scrunched up hose they usually have, trying to drag the vac and use the hose at the same time is a nightmare. And it just doesn’t reach well. I prefer a vac over hand dusting so I will stick with what works. With the Miele I can do the lampshades, all the window trim, you name it. Good luck!

I found a used Miele canister on Facebook marketplace, and that thing is awesome. It does require bags (I don’t mind, better for my allergies and I can get generic ones via Amazon). Bonus, it’s a nice enough vacuum that when if it breaks in the future, it can be repaired.

I will say that while the actual motor is working great, the plastic that surrounds the cannister (the part that's under the rim) has gotten brittle and when I bumped the cannister into furniture or the wall when pulling it, the plastic started breaking off. That started about three years ago (and a LOT of plastic has broken off!), but it's still going strong!

Miele is definitely the best but so expensive. A very very good alternative is the eureka mighty mite. I’m surprised no one recommends it (this is the 3rd or 4th time I’ve recommended it on Reddit and never see it mentioned!)

I use a Miele at someone’s house and I love it, the suction is amazing. If you want something similar for way cheaper I highly recommend the Eureka Might Mite. It’s like $100 and it has the same suction as a Miele. It’s plastic so it’s light, the two tubes together are really long so easy to reach ceilings for cobwebs and stuff. It doesn’t last as long like a Miele would but it’s freakin awesome.

If you want a high quality vacuum that does everything well check out the Miele canister models.

Of those that you are considering the Miele wins hands down. Also add SEBO to your list....

SEBO for upright. Miele for canister. Miele has slightly better filtration than SEBO but I personally prefer SEBO canisters and uprights due to better warranty and cost of ownership

I'm probably going to get down voted for this but I'd stay away from Riccar. They aren't what they used to be. SEBO and Miele are the ones that get the most love and for good reason. I prefer SEBO above all because they're 100% German made machines, they have a great ecosystem, are easy to self service and parts are readily available. They have great filtration and bags are inexpensive. As for ZeroG, I'd be skeptical of them. They are a small company and every time I look at their website they are always out of stock. They use proprietary bags that are not available anywhere but their own website. What happens if/when they go out of business? Can't get bags for them and the machine is useless. I will say they make a nice looking machine with awesome features and performance. I'd buy one second hand if I could find one but if I paid full price and couldn't get service or parts then I'd be upset.

I'm not a housekeeper, but I have a Miele - going on 20 years now. Its amazing. It makes cleaning go so fast. I have a cordless LG that I use for quick tidy ups in between deep cleans, but for monthly deep cleans, I use the Miele and the place just feels SO CLEAN afterwards.

We have 2 currently. A stick (3 in 1 unit) for light duty quick tasks and a canister for bigger jobs. Never an issue with my Miele vacuums. Only ever replaced one Miele and that was because we moved continents and the voltage was different so we sold the old one.

I got a miele one in January of this year ......that along with a dishwasher has done wonders for my back. I wouldbt be without my miele. Having used the dyson as well ( my housemate had one) i would go for the miele any day.

Not sure if this would be worthwhile for you, but I decided to buy a used Miele canister so that I could try a canister in my house. I just got it the other day, so the jury is still out on if I will stay in canisters, but if you’re curious about canisters, it might not be a bad idea to buy a used one (make sure the bag compartment is clean, if dirty its no good). Then you get to try it out for as long as you want, and if you don’t like it you can sell it and get most (if not all—depending on how good of a deal you get) of your money back. I know many suggest going to a dealer to try before you buy, and while that would help, in my case I would prefer to clean my own floors in my own home. This lets my wife try it a few times too.

I really have to echo the positives about Miele. I have a canister and upright. The upright is great but weighs a ton. Has great attachments and hose for furniture etc. I bought it first and added the canister a couple years ago during Amazon prime days, or maybe Black Friday. I find the canister a lot easier to use simply because of the weight. It lends itself to quick cleanups. The upright I get out if I’m deep cleaning. Definitely BIFL.

I have Miele canister vacuum for my own home. I can't imagine having to change its bag after two or three homes! They'd have to be massive castles.

We bought a canister during COVID germ panic and I am never going back. We have pets and the difference in what the canister picked up vs our upright Hoover was astounding. Edited to say we went with Miele.

I dont think it is my mom bought one and within 1 year it had battery and filter issues. Dyson looks cool and neat due to marketing, but when you have to dispose of the dust and dirt, it ends up flying everywhere, which is my main complaint and reason I stopped using my Dyson and gave it away after 5 years. It is also impossible to clean with so many components. if you want a quality vacuum, i would get a Miele or sebo canister vacuum. It is pricey, but canister vacuum compacts the dust and dirt into a bag and you just dispose the bag. No dust flying everywhere. Simple to clean.

Abt. You will find the staff super knowledgeable and know you will be protected if you end up hating what you choose. Personally, I love Miele canisters as they last for a very long time. When I lived downtown I was in a vacuum shop (this would have been around 2008) and a woman was bringing in her Miele from the 80’s for repair. But I absolutely love Abt for any big purchases.

I have a Miele that's at least 10 years old. At one point I had 3 kids and 5 dogs in the house. I love it, and it is indestructible. Paint is knocked off the buttons, filter replacement is the only thing I've had to do regularly.

I’ve had a Dyson V8 for 10+ years, main vacuum (hardwood floors and low pile rugs) and replaced the battery once. It doesn’t do our whole house without a charge, no big deal. There is one guy in particular (that I’ve noticed) that posts negative comments about Dyson and I just skip over his comments because it’s repetitive and I’ve found it to be untrue. We now have a Miele canister vac as well and don’t love it.

I have 3 vacuums that I use for different types of cleaning. Cordless(not Dyson but someday I go or will be!!) is my ‘daily driver’ and while it’s not the best vacuum ever, it’s the primary reason that my house stays clean. Its battery lasts about 25 minutes and it tackles cat hair and dust like a champ. Then I have a Miele canister vacuum, it’s the work horse. It’s a pain to drag out and always ends up getting pulled from the outlet because the cord is annoyingly short but it is crazy powerful. Then I have a central vac system. I solely use this for keeping ceiling corners free of cobwebs a couple times per year because it’s light and has a super long hose but it’s cumbersome and the central canister is in the basement crawl space so I use it minimally to avoid having to empty it often. Together they take up a lot of space but I wouldn’t willingly get rid of any of them

Dyson marketing department got you good if you think it cleans better than a miele.

I’ve always kind of wondered about that too. Consumer Reports consistently puts Kenmores way up the list while Miele and Sebo get a lot more love here. Part of it is probably how CR weights things: price-to-performance, availability in big box stores, and maybe even the way they test suction vs. long-term reliability. Kenmore also has broader distribution in the U.S., which probably gives CR more samples to work with. I can’t speak to kickbacks or partnerships, but it wouldn’t shock me if brand relationships played a role in how much attention certain models get. All I know from experience is that I went from a bagless Shark to a Miele canister, and the difference in how clean my carpets look and feel is night and day. Kenmore intuition It's a solid machine that is just a good vacuum overall, it should make you happy for a good amount of time! Check around, you can usually find it right at your budget. This will likely be downvoted, and I’m not sure if this qualifies as BIFL, but I LOVE my Dyson V8. I’ve rebuilt it several times with cheap after-market parts from Amazon when anything has gone out. The battery has gone out 2-3x (after years of use) . The battery replacement is like $25 and I recently replaced the entire vac head for $20. It’s very satisfying to keep bringing this thing back to life. As an aside I also have a Miele canister vac but it doesn’t get used more than once a week whereas the Dyson is a daily use, and we have a dog that sheds a lot.

My Miele canisters (I have two) have both been perfect forever-- one is around 25 years old, one is about 18-- without maintenance beyond changing the filters. I have replaced a few of the attachments. I used both of them professionally for several years as well. They were refurbished when I got them! So worth the money.

We got a Dyson stick for quick and spot cleaning. We got a corgi that sheds like crazy. It helps with maintaince of the fur. A Miele canister is BIFL and will hold up with per hair.

You will find SEBO and Miele to be on the level of that quality that you're looking for. Those machines are sold based on your flooring type and size house. I think you should keep in mind that even back in the '80s Electrolux canister vacuums typically sold for noth of $800. Most quality Vacuums in the United States sell for $400-1200. Miele is the best vacuum I've ever used. I first tried one at a clients home years ago. They're so powerful and effective, they're quiet, they're easy to maintain and clean. The designers/engineers thought of everything, even considering cord length in regard to average room size for the model I have. Good attachments too! Thyre pricey, but you can get them certified pre-owned in great condition. Get a bagless car and dog version if you can!

Bagless is trash! I’ve had all the popular name brands. They all end up reeking and blowing dust. Just about any high end bagged vacuum will kick a bagless’s butt. If it takes a paper bag, it’s not high end. Look for heavy (expensive) cloth type bags. You’ll never go back. I personally love my Miele canister vac. It’s about 13 years old now, and still running just like when it was new. It doesn’t blow dust everywhere, is easy to swap the bag. And doesn’t require any extra cleaning or maintenance. Just keep the bag replaced as necessary, and replace the HEPA filter once a year. It’s not cheap, but you gotta pay to play when you want nice things. But honestly even with the high premium price of the vacuum and its bags/filters. I still think it’s more economical than replacing a bagless POS every two to three years.

I don’t think I’d ever buy another Dyson, and I’ve used plug-in upright, and the handheld V6. Bagless vacuums require a lot of maintenance to keep everything shipshape. My Miele canister is god-tier perfect. Expensive, though.

100% agree. They’re wonderful vacuums for personal use but from a cleaner standpoint, they don’t make sense. They’re not cleaner friendly as far as speed and efficiency. I’ve got a client that has one and I use the hardwood floor vacuum head instead of the brush roll because the carpets are low pile. The amount of times I’ve had to stop and flip the canister, the attachments drop from the hose, having to switch attachments. We don’t have that kind of time in someone’s house, unfortunately. It’s a great little vacuum and definitely an investment. I’d love to buy one for my own home but upright and bagless are better options for professional cleaners.

I love Miele vacuums. Like you, my client has one and it’s by far the best vacuum I have used. **However,** I would never purchase one to use in a client’s home. I ask that my clients provide a vacuum or I will use my company vac if they don’t have a good one. I would buy a Miele in my own home but unfortunately, it’s not very “cleaner friendly” because it’s a canister vac. There’s a lot of upkeep and maintenance you’ll have to do with a Miele vac, especially if it’s going in many different homes. It’s not the easiest to disinfect between services. I’d stick with a bagless vac for cleaning multiple homes. There are some great options that are comparable to Miele that don’t come with the price tag and the maintenance.

I get it. I have owned a couple of Dyson’s… one was a canister bought about 20 years ago and one was a cordless bought about 8 years ago. I kept the Canister going for 8 years but had to replace more than a few brittle plastic parts and it was held together with Epoxy at the end. The cordless battery didn’t last 6 months and I had to replace the canister assembly within 30 days. The clear plastics are simply very brittle in my anecdotal experience. Also have a Miele that was once dropped down the stairs and still works like new. It is 10 years old. I appreciate the convenience of cordless. I actually don’t see bagless as a positive. They objectively release a lot of contaminant’s into the air when emptying. Sure you can empty it outside… but having to go outside every time you use it is not convenient. With a good bagged vacuum, the bag helps filter the air and the bags last a long time. The holy grail for me would be a good bagged cordless vacuum with swappable batteries. We bought a Samsung Bespoke Jet which is pretty close to the ideal… but expensive. Bagless but has a charging base with a bag and filter in it that automatically empties the canister without any dirt getting into the air. Much more quiet than the Dyson, feels better made and includes two swappable batteries with a charger on the base for the 2nd battery.

I had an OG Dyson canister that we bought 20 years ago... and the plastics they used were super brittle then just like now. We got 10 years out of it... BUT we had to replace multiple parts and it was held together with epoxy and fiberglass patch kit tape all over. It was a mess. By comparison we have a Miele canister now that is 10 years old and is perfect.

I have a lower end Miele as my main vacuum and have had it for 10 years and it is like new... however I did supplement with a Dyson cordless for awhile and it went through a battery every year and I had to replace several broken plastic bits on the cannister.... also those make a mess when you try to empty them..... No cordless vacuums are BIFL.... HOWEVER we did get a Samsung Bespoke Jet cordless vac 2 years ago and I love that thing. Pricy for a cordless but it is way better quality than the Dyson and has a charging base that also contains a vacuum/bag that sucks the dirt out of it into a bag... so completely mess-less. It also has two batteries that can be swapped in seconds like a power tool. The second battery mounts to the dock in a second charger. It is also quieter than the Dyson and the Miele.

I had an older one… bought it over 20 years ago. It broke constantly for its 8 year life and I was always gluing together its brittle plastic or ordering parts. Miele that I replaced it with was a huge upgrade.

I don't know about Miele. Our Miele canister is 10 years old and the wand broke. Took it to the vacuum store and it's $200CAD to replace. As I was considering ordering the replacement I mentioned the power cuts in and out on the brush head and was told it's a common failure that requires a new hose. $200CAD to replace the hose. The head has been squealing as well and that's $180CAD. So to replace just the parts costs $580CAD to attach to my 10 year old canister or I can buy a new Miele C1 for $399 or a C3 for $699. I'm looking into SEBO as Miele was not what I expected.

I have a Shark for work and a Miele canister vacuum for my own house! I love them both but for different reasons. The ease of an upright when I’m working can’t be beat. The Miele is so powerful but heavy!!

I have a Miele upright and HATE it for my home. Also had a canister that was beyond infuriating to use in the house. I have a Henry that I use for basement and to clean my cars. I don’t understand how anyone can tolerate a canister machine in the house. It’s like taking an overweight cat for a walk with the added bonus of cracking corner beads on walls. I actually just ordered a shark not 10 minutes ago to replace my Miele for home use. I’ll take it to work where it’ll probably do better. Miele designed the brush roll in a very poor way. We don’t have carpet, just a few runner and if you don’t constantly have the brush roll running hair will bind up in the belt drive system and start to strip out the belt. I’ve replaced countless belts, the entire housing and the motor when my kids didn’t realize what was going on with the god awful sound it was making. I contacted them about it and their solution? Take it apart and clean it after every use. Are you kidding me? That involves pulling the bottom plate off (6 torx screws of 2 sizes) unclipping a flimsy plastic latch on the belt housing that has about 10 uses before it breaks and if it’s bad enough unmounting the motor. That is in no way feasible to do daily or at times several times daily depending on how anal I get. I salvaged a Shark 2 years ago from the trash, pulled it apart and cleaned the heck out of it. And it’s used in the finished portion of our basement several times a week. It’s been great. I like the general quality of the Miele and the design of how the rotator head works is great. But gosh they missed the mark on overall design. To further take points off it’s very very very unfriendly for repair. People like to say the higher end machines are repairable. Ok… I guess. But when I’m shelling out nearly $100 on a replacement hose every 3 years in addition to belts, and brush rolls I can just buy a “disposable” one every few years and when it breaks I can usually hobble it by for another few. This is my 3rd Miele and probably my last to be honest. My first served me fairly well in a house with carpet until it took a fall down the steps when my wife lost grip on it (because let’s face it they aren’t light). The cost to fix it was going to be more than it cost new. And that was just in parts for me to do it. Rant over. Sorry. Just read this at the wrong (right?) time.

We had a Dyson V8 Animal that lost suction power pretty badly over the course of about 2 years. We got it serviced and did everything they recommended but it's just a useless piece of crap. Ended up going back to a plug in Miele.

I didn't think so, but I've only used their stick vacuum. It had issues, and when I was in the market for a new vacuum 5-6 years ago I had a couple of friends and also a couple of local vacuum shops recommending I avoid Dyson. I decided to go with a Mielle canister instead. I have two huskies and it does a great job with all surfaces. The canister is very light and not clunky at all to pull around (which was my biggest worry). I'd recommend checking this brand out if you're unsure about Dyson.

If you get a room a for daily upkeep, get the one that empties itself. I love my room a but wish I would’ve gotten the self-emptying base. My upright is a Riccar. I’ve also owned a Miehle canister vac. Both are outstanding

When they were new to the market, the rep would try and 'sell' it to the staff, but we knew that it was a bunch of malarkey. Miele vacs use bags, yes, but they're clean, easy to replace and suck harder that ...well, that part writes itself. Buy a Miele Also, their claim was 'no loss of suction' like the bag vacs did, but if they bagged models start with 20 and drop to 14, but the Dyson stays perpetually at 10, who has the better unit? Aaaaand also, if there is no loss of suction, but then you fire up an AIR-DRIVEN motor head, you lose suction. It was all a bag of doodoo that a Dyson couldn't even suck up. Marketing will always trump a sucker.

Shark is okay at first but this video isn't a good video to base it on they just throw the stuff on there without it sitting and getting into the carpet. You're better off with a Miele vacuum that has a bag and will be less dusty from emptying a non bagged canister.

I used to work at a local vac shop in Ottawa Ontario. We used to get a lot of refurbished V6s, V7s and V8s, mind you this was like 8 years ago. I got myself a V6 for upstairs ( It was like $180) and a V8 for the living room and that was about $230. i dont even know if Dyson still does the Refurbs, they still come with a one year warranty if i remember. After the one year warranty is up i would use the 3rd party batteries for the Dysons. Its cheaper and you can get 2 some times. I also got a refub Miele cannister and my wife can tell quickly if i vaccumed with the Miele instead of the Dysons. You need to have the power on high for the Dysons to suck as good as the canisters, but it kills the battery stupid quick.

Ha, I'm on the other side of this. Dyson cordless battery lasted 2 years, replaced under warranty, failed again after a year and a half so I pitched it. Back to a corded canister miele and I love it.

There’s no single vac that does it all except for maybe a super heavy super expensive traditional canister like a Miele. For an everyday hard floor vac (and light carpet vac) the best is Levoit on Amazon that's about $200. It's a Dyson-like machine that overcomes a lot of the longtime design issues with Dysons (such as, it can stand up by itself -- what a concept). But we also keep the Dyson around for a more aggressive carpet vac when we need it. We also have a Eureka boss -- powerful and dependable small canister vac. And a monster shop vac in the basement. Dysons are great but they're really expensive and their air filtering system is overly complicated and tends to lose efficiency. If you own a Dyson, watch all the available Youtubes on how to clean it with pressurized air so you can keep it running. Given the competition from newer manufacturers like Levoit, I think it's going to be harder for Dyson to justify selling floor vacs for close to $1000.

Yep - Shark is great and cheap, too for carpets. I use a tank Miele vacuum (German made) for cleaning the car and the hardwood floors, though as it's light and has variable suction.

The miele cannisters have rubberized pieces where contact may occur, as well as on the tool head. I'm not sure the 5 vs 10 year warranty matters as far as these vacuums go. I know people have had issues,but it's unlikely. You don't have to spend 1k or more to get excellent performance from Miele and Sebo, and preowned isn't a bad option considering how long they last. Anecdotally I found a Sebo X4 Automatic for 10$, the cord was destroyed and it needed a brush roll. 65$ worth of parts, some cleaning, and this thing is rocking. So marketplace isn't an unreasonable place to find one.

As much as I love my Miele corded, canister vacuum, I decided to get a Dyson V12 Detect slim last year. The Miele is mostly used on carpet now or really dirty jobs. But for hardwood and stairs, the Dyson gets used much more frequently. The green light makes it really easy to see if there are missed spots. Since I'm mostly with hardwood floors, it does a pretty good job. But it's not without faults. Cleaning it is a pain if you are picking up a lot of fine dust or powder since the filters get clogged pretty fast. For regular dirt and dust, it can go a while without needing a deep clean. Also, emptying it is annoying too since it releases a cloud of dust. You need to either do it outside or wrap the garbage bag around it to minimize the dust. The power is nowhere near as good as a corded vacuum so I don't even bother using it on carpets. Even with all those downsides, the convenience still results in me vacuuming much more often in high traffic areas so my place is much cleaner overall. If you don't have a ton of carpets or they're lower pile, it might be worth it. But if you can only have one vacuum, I would still suggest a good canister instead since it's just more capable and will be higher quality. Just much more of a hassle to plug in and move around to different spots.

I’ve got a Miele wired vacuum I’ve owned 10+ years and gone through 3 Dyson cordless in that time. They’re handy to quickly pick up dirt etc but definitely not BIFLish. My Dyson v6 is starting to do that dreaded on and off pulsing thing I’ve had before and replacing battery and filters and cleaning with air compressor etc have done nothing.

Miele and Sebo are the best for typical household vacuums, but if you don’t mind the noice you can also consider a shop vac. They are well respected on the construction vacuum market.

I bought my Miele in 2004 and it's still running strong. Full disclosure: my husband broke the power head 10 years ago. I can't remember what he did except that it was a goofus move. I was really annoyed but I replaced the power head, kept the husband, and the vacuum has been running well ever since.

Henry has always been the best hoover in my eyes and I've used many over the years. However I admit that they are cumbersome and they do deliberately throw themselves over in a tantrum, grab the corners of walls to avoid their workload and talk shit about you behind your back all while having a very smug look on their stupid red faces. That being said I would also reccomend miele. Also very good quality but much less personality.

Dyson are an utter rip off. I sympathise completely with you. Used to own one and I felt I’d have to do two rounds of the house to get it clean. Go for a Miele, they are cheaper and significantly better.

Honestly if you’re willing to spend up to $600, it’s really worth the extra $250-300 to get a Miele or a Sebo. I spent way more that that in vacuums I hated (shark, Dyson, Hoover, etc) and finally broke down and got a Sebo canister. I wish I’d done it sooner. Even the ‘higher end’ shark and Dyson are child’s play compared to the good vacuums.

I've had a Miele for 20 years. Would buy another if this one ever dies. One thing that sold me on paying the extra $s for it was the sound level. Even at full suction it is much quieter than any other vacuum I've heard, other than a built-in. Friend had a Dyson stick model and that sounded like jet engine revving up for take-off in comparison.

It’s one of those but once cry once things. A Miele or SEBO will last much longer and do a better job than a cheaper option.  It pays for itself in not having to replace it in a couple years. 

In my opinion Miele has gone downhill recently. Cheap breakable plastic parts. You have to buy specific vacuum bags that cost a lot and if you buy the knockoffs the vacuum will not work properly.

If you can afford it a Miele will last you forever. Ours is about 20 years old and all we do is give it a good clean once a year and it works great. My only other tip is that we don't use it for the whole house in one go. We do a couple of rooms then let it cool a bit by moving stuff in the other rooms before vacuuming. I think that is what's saved it from burning out. But it could also be nonsense. Anyone who knows better I'd love to hear from you.

i just bought a miele, it was expensive, the first time using it A BUTTON POPPED OFF, so, not Miele

I had a Dyson recently that I ended up just giving away via curb alert because a simple part near the roller just up and broke one day. We called, emailed, and got confirmation that we would get a replacement part via warranty...and they never sent it. We called + emailed again; still no part. After a third time we just said fuck it and got a Miele. More expensive but we can get parts for it easily if it breaks just driving to a local store.

We have a Riccar, which we got from the local vacuum shop. It’s a bagged model and it plugs in, but it’s fantastic. Best vacuum I’ve ever owned. It was between Riccar and Miele for us, and we preferred the Riccar. We also have a Shark stick that we use for spot cleaning. It’s definitely not as good.

My kids asthma would flare up when using our old Shark. We got a Miele and don’t have any problems when using it with the house closed up.

I am a housekeeper I hate Dyson, so did my vacuum repair tech. I have had a Miele and I love it ( have two) one is at least 17 yrs old and I mostly have to retire it because I can get parts anymore. Also it’s lighter than the Dyson by a lot that was a big deal for me having to carry it into houses. Not a big deal in one house.

The only truly good vacuum is Miele. Dyson vacuums are overpriced garbage.

Miele is the only way. 30+ years in the business, have bought numerous brands & styles including backpack vacs, shop vacs… Miele is the best by far.

A Henry should be at the top of your list, since it's affordable and manufactured in the UK.  You can use variety of parquet brushes and the horsehair ones would be great for LVP.  A miele or Sebo would be more expensive and would come with extra bells and whistles such as self retracting cords and better ergonomics, storage.  If you need to clean rugs, you can find a turbo attachment.  These options will last you 15+ years.   If you want something cordless, Dyson fluffy rollers are good for quick pickups and won't hurt the flooring.  The V8 absolute package includes a fluffy roller and goes on sale intermittently to be within your budget.  Keep in mind while it might be a space saving option and convenient, cordless stick vacuums usually last a couple of years before big problems arise, hence why the main recommendation is for bagged, plug in vacuums.

Used to sell electronics and I can say without a doubt you made the right choice going for Miele over Dyson. Dyson are dreadful for the price they are and the build quality is shocking. Miele are one of the few brands I can say are worth the extra few quid you'll pay. There is a hard floor head you can get for the Miele, not sure if it comes as standard but it will stop any damage to your hardwood floors.

Not worth it. Miele is so much better in my experience. If you get a Dyson, be aware that the models like V11 are top heavy and you will hurt your arm and shoulder. Get the upright ones instead.

Miele, and that's after trying a lot of them. We use Henry at work and it'll keep sucking all day, but not with the same force as the Miele.

Any Miele will deal with fur, the cat dog is just a power head and their air clean filter which has carbon which helps with the animal smell. Otherwise, the C3 Kona (comes with HEPA filter instead of carbon filter) will be just fine for you. The C3 has a complete sealed system which is better than C1 if you have issues with allergies. Second this. Robot Vacuums have come along way but hair is hair is hair. If you’ve got long hair, even the best of the best full size vacs will struggle, especially on carpet. Miele for the win.

I love my Dyson V8.... as a ***secondary*** vacuum. A cordless just can't be your man vac if you have any decent amount of carpet or a decently large home. My house gets a full vacuum weekly with either my Miele or Kenmore and then the Dyson is great for in between.

I've owned both. Shark was disappointing - and I say that loving their kitchen stuff. The anti hair wrap thing was an absolute lie and it didn't pick up a load of dirt. Henry is great. Long lasting and powerful. It's a bit cumbersome though. Nowadays I have a Miele and it does a fine job and is fairly light.

I think so. I bought mine a couple of years ago and it's much lighter than a Henry.

Unless it's a Miele

I don't recommend getting a Henry despite it being a solid hoover. It's quite finnickey to use in a home-setting; especially when you have to deal with dog hair. I can't comment on the Shark since I've never owned or used one, but I do recommend a Miele. They have a few that are awarded Which? Best Buys and a lot more easy to work around the house.

I like the Miele. We have a lot of dust and pets. Blowing out the filters with pressurised air makes a huge difference.

My Miele is 25 years old and I just use it for cars now, the Shark upright handles Border Collie hair so much better. I don't know any Dyson owners who have had one last for 10 years.

We had a Miele and it’s quiet enough that our dog wouldn’t bother with it. It also has a multi-stage HEPA filter and the canister, although small, lasts a bit. It’s a solid vacuum. Slightly annoying to store and pretty expensive for the bags and filters, but if cost isn’t a factor, it’s good for children, pets, and maintaining a cleaner air environment.

Miele is 100% worth it.

I love my Miele but I've had it forever so I asked my trusted friends at the vacuum store what I should get when it eventually dies and they all said Sebo.

Riccar or Miele. I've had both, currently have a Miele, and once you step into this range of vacuums you typically won't be satisfied with lower end models abilities. Amazing suction, independently powered brush heads, multi-stage HEPA filtration, etc. Not sure what model the other user that had Miele had, but mine is super well built, but that's expected when spending $1200+ on a vacuum.

Seconding Miele.  It's bloody amazing, it's durable. Will last you decades.  Even my friend who is a professional cleaner says Miele is the very best. She finds Henry hoovers very basic and barely good enough in comparison to a cheapest contemporary Miele. Personally I also worked with many different vacuums too and I despise Dyson. Absolute garbage that's waaaaay too expensive for a pile of crap it is. I own Miele too. If it somehow breaks beyond reasonable repair I'll buy another one.

I have 2 Mieles- 1 upstairs and 1 downstairs! I’d also recommend getting an easy cordless stick vacuum for daily quick sweeps of the perimeter to get all the fur tumbleweeds.

Miele. Great suction, versatile, bags close up well so you’re not spilling dirt trying to empty it, easy to disassemble to pull fur out when it gets stuck. Lasts forever, I think the one I have is around 25 years old.

I have very furry dogs, I use a Miele. All the dirt goes into bags, good suction, they’re easy to disassemble to remove fur, sturdy and last forever.

We have Dyson, Miele and Henry. Dyson cordless is the best for daily convenience but not so good for a deep clean and it's quite high maintenance with all the charging, emptying, filter washing, getting hair off the brushes etc. Miele is solid and the suction is bonkers but I wouldn't use it for building work etc as I want to keep it nice. Henry is the work horse for cleaning the log burner, mud, brick, sick. You can chuck anything at him but he falls over a lot.

Check Ebay. Alot of stores sell thru Ebay. I got a brand new Miele for around $600. Came with every attachment. Excellent vacuum.

I have a Dyson and a Miele. The Miele blows the Dyson out of the water. It’s not even a competition. The Dyson is cordless and convenient, but when I really want the floor super clean, I need to use the Miele.

I had a Miele vacuum for a few years when I lived in an apartment with hardwood and very low-pile carpets. We then began having a problem with dust mite bites, so I decided to switch up to what I thought was just an overhyped machine, a Dyson. I first vacuumed with the Miele then right after that with the Dyson and the Dyson picked up a TON of dust/dirt, etc. (probably mites too) that the Miele didn't get. After I tossed the Miele, we never had issues with mites again, and without changing vacuuming habits or frequency. There may be other, cheaper options than Dyson, but I wanted to throw in this comment about my experience with the Miele vacuum--not impressed.

We had 4 Dyson and couple other ones! Now we got Miele and tineco vacuum and vet mop! My kids use them daily sometimes couple of times!😅🤣🤣

Here to validate you. Vac people are kinda dicks. Have had a refurbished Dyson v7 for a decade. Never cleaned nor changed a filter. Still sucks up dirt. Believed the hype and bought a Miele. I hate it. Canisters are dumb. I’m not a 50’s housewife who has all day to strategize chores by floor, nor a STEM purist invested in calibrated floor heights. Get a stick that sucks and charges for $250. Flourish.

Over engineered and complicated, an absolute pig to work on as well. Miele for premium brand is much better or Numatic for budget (imo anyway)

I have long hair. Having long hair, and being lazy here's my best tips: Slightly change how you vacuum: Use the hose/crevice attachment for most of the hair that floats in the corners, not the brush roller (carpet attachment) FIRST. THEN, use the carpet brush. This reduces the amount of long hairs that NEED to be removed with the brush roller. This limits the number of possible tangled in your carpet brush. Secondly... specific to people with long hair... get a vacuum with an easy to clean carpet brush roller. I have a Miele. There's an indented line along the carpet brush where you can run a utility knife and cut through any hair that's gotten tangled extremely quickly and easily. I need to do this once every couple months. Two quick slashes and I'm done without having to remove parts. (Same for Sebo) Many vacuums aren't great at managing long hair by default. A few brands have gimmicky "long-hair-defense" bullshit attachments/features... they are UTTER BULLSHIT. Utterly useless, hard pass. If you see similar phrasing on packaging, just grab your wallet and move along.

Miele Without a doubt. The urge to get cordless is strong but they are NOT as good as the plug ones .....

I went I to get a Miele, and ended up getting a SEBO. Love it so much! It’s much more user friendly in my opinion. Before that we had and our Hoover Windtunnel Pet bagged upright (went through two..maybe three in 18 years) and it was a couple hundred. It was really reliable with strong suction. It actually still works great. The SEBO is a dream, though and is much easier to handle.

Sure. I liked the Miele too, but was surprised with their background and reputation that they don’t have more thoughtful and user friendly designs. Pros for SEBO The main thing for me- They don’t have the controls on the handle. You have to go back to the main unit to turn on off or adjust. I believe their most expensive model did, but it had a major reoccurring flaw that was an expensive fix. With the motor I think and I can’t remember the cause. I was told this by the salesman/owner. He would have no reason to dissuade me from buying the most expensive model and he wasn’t biased toward either brand. The cause was possibly not putting the bag in correctly. You have to make sure to click it in place or something if you open it. Salesman told me this and I also read about it. My vacuum also allows me to slide the button up and down for different levels of suction. Super convenient if you don’t want it to suck up big items, just dust and hair etc. or if you are vacuuming a rug or accidentally get a Kleenex or sock. The carpet attachment is much easier to maneuver and is able to reach more spaces, even though it covers a similar amount of area. It has a lower profile. I like the bags on my vacuum. They have a big opening, so if I accidentally vacuum something up that I wasn’t supposed to I can just reach in and get it. I also have two very hairy dogs, so I pull out the hair from the bags once per bag usage, which allows them to last longer. If I’m remembering correctly mine came with more accessories and I did buy more as well. I think I liked the attachments better on mine too and likely were more reasonably priced. Cleaning the beaters is much easier on the SEBO. You have to do some work to take apart the Miele and risk damaging it. The SEBO is designed to easily slide out and back in without using any tools. There were some known issues and I’m trying to remember. I think it’s with the hose. Replacing the hose is really expensive on the Miele. Pros for Miele The Miele has a fully sealed unit so is better for air quality and allergies. If I’m remembering correctly the unit was slightly lighter. I spent forever in that store and hyper analyzed and compared all the models of both brands. I did feel like the Miele was slightly more powerful and felt more quality. Cons for SEBO If I’m not paying attention the main unit will flip and push the plug roll up button and act like a toddler who’s done vacuuming. It will pull the plug and roll the cord- all done haha. It can get really annoying sometimes. The next model up had a bigger and heavier main unit that I don’t think would have this issue. Hair builds up very quickly on the beater brush and I have to clean it often. I mean, it’s good in the sense that it’s getting all that from the carpet I guess. I remember the salesman said the Miele had a special design that allowed the hair to not get stuck as easily. * so pro for Miele So, I chose the one that was right for me. I did a lot of research before going in, but mostly on the Miele, because as I said, I was convinced that is what I wanted to buy. I’m glad I kept an open mind and discovered what was best for me. That’s all I can think of off the top of my head. I’m not good with dates, but I feel like I’ve had it for about a year now and still very happy. I love not having to deal with manually rolling up the plug. Both companies have that, but my old one didn’t.

The airstorm, while good, is no better than a miele or sebo. I wouldn't pay the premium. Mieles and sebos are also sealed to trap dust. They are also more modern in design and easier to use (they have cord rewind while the air storm does not). There's nothing really bespoke about the airstorm. Underneath the top shell, the power nozzle is the same as ones avaliable for Miele models. The hose and other tools are generic off-the-shelf supplies etc. While it would probably last you a long time and do a good job, you might resent using it. I'd strongly suggest you try one in person before choosing, and frankly I'd save money and go with a nicer to use miele/sebo.

Miele is just embarrassingly better than everything else.

When we bought a multi level house and had pets and small children around we wanted to "upgrade" as well. Any with a Dyson stick as they seemed to be good. We loved the portability over the old hover and thought it was great. After a few years it started to show the truth. Crumbs would fall back down the tube. Multiple passes over items would still leave them on the ground. We when went as far a getting the old Hoover back out and realized just how much the Dyson missed. That lead me down the rabbit hole of what is actually good. Ended up with Miele, it's remarkable how well it performs.

They also stink if you have pets. Like literally. I wish I knew that bagless is definitely not better. We finally got a Miele and I love it. When the dog smell starts I know it’s time to change the bag (if it wasn’t full already) and then no more dog smell!

Miele. Ours has different speeds and the top 3 speeds pull the carpet up without much effort at all. The lowest speed is quiet enough for me to do some late night hoovering without bothering the neighbors. I had a Shark but it started to sound like a fighter jet.

The best Miele you can afford

I have an LG cordless which is great for spot cleans, but the Miele comes out for the big cleans, the amount of dust it can get out carpets is impressive. I have a bagless one I bought in 2015 and apart for some dings it's still running well.

Miele’s is really good, but stick wins for speed and convenience. Honestly, keep both. I think you can use them for different purposes

I have the E3 and like it. The hose is much thicker than my Meile was (but that died). And with. 10 year warranty it will last longer than the 3 years the Meile did.

For the main one, Miele. They are unreal. The light one and the robovac doesn’t have to be anything insane. The eufy robovacs for about 150 are fine. Honestly if you are just using the hand one for light work. A cheap one in power city or somewhere like that is all you need.

I love my Miele! I inherited a while back that was made in the mid-90s. It finally died last year and I was a bit devastated when I couldn’t find any replacement parts for a reasonable price. I bought a brand new one from the local vacuum store and I’m so happy with it. The vacuum store also gave me an additional warranty on it plus a couple other accessory nozzles. The new vacuum has the same amazing quality, plus a few more bells and whistles compared to my old one. They are expensive vacuums but they are well worth it given their effectiveness and longevity.

Go Miele or Sebo. The cordless sticks are good for quick cleanups but get a real vaccuum if you want to do regular cleaning...

I see the appeal of a stick. I have a V15. It’s about 3 yrs old. It’s primary role is for in-between cleans, small messes. Touch-ups. But, if I am going to vac our main living areas or the entire house, I can get the job done a lot faster with my Miele. If I am going to deep clean the carpet, I don’t pre-vac with my V15. I use my Kirby. If I am going to detail a vehicle, Miele. If I am going to use attachments for deep cleaning, Miele.

I don't own Sharks anymore, however, I used to appreciate the suction of a new machine, the amazement of physically SEEING how much dirt, hair, etc, I was removing from the carpets. I now own 2 Miele vacuums with bags that I fill and toss in the trash. I feel it usn't as dusty in my home, and the Miele vacs are heavier duty machines. I have probably owned 6 Shark vacuums. They broke often. I repaired with new parts from eBay. I tired of that. My last Shark was not repairable.

I have 3 of the top 4. I have been happy with dyson because you can get a lot if replacement parts. Miele works great too.

Dyson doesn't suck as hard and is extremely loud. Just on the noise alone I hate using my parent's Dyson and use their Miele instead.

No. Overpriced, too heavy/bulky, not ergonomic, breakdown easily. I’d rather use a cheap Shark over a Dyson. Miele vacuums, however, are well worth their hefty price tags. Bags are an added cost, but don’t need to be replaced as often as you’d think, and their vacuums last forever. I’m a housekeeper and my Miele is the best vacuum I’ve ever used. I’ve tried nearly every brand and style out there. Can’t recommend them enough. Edited to add that I used Shark for a number of years until I could save up for a Miele. A Shark is a decent vacuum and MUCH cheaper to replace than a Dyson.

The Miele, Henry, and Sebo vacs are the only ones worth a damn on this list. If you want a real BIFL vac and are willing to shell out, get a Lindhaus.

I know a dozen plus people (including myself) whose Dyson lasted less then 5 years.  Meanwhile my aunt still uses a 30 year old Miele which you can fix in like 10 minutes with no experience. Sure, older Dysons were actually decent. They are pretty shit now and break down pretty easily.

Miele is the best but for ease a dyson cordless is good - maybe the pet hair one. I have both- dyson for small jobs and Miele for big jobs. After i upgraded the dyson battery it works better than ever after 6 + years.

Depends on your budget really. My fave was an upright Orek, when that died after 10 years of cleaning up after five cats. I then got a Miele which again lasted a long time (about 12 or 13 years). Got rid of a Dyson after six months - useless! And still are... At the moment I am using a Henry Quick Pet combined with a Roomba I7. The robot does surprisingly well on our rugs and hard floors.

None of them. Seriously, it has pissed me off for years. More than one Dyson, all weak/poor, just marketing hype. Panasonic. Unreliable. Miele, which I have now but is annoying and frustrating. A terrible design. Second one after the first lasted just over year. Hoover. It was many years ago, but it was weak and useless. Bosch. Worked, was reliable, but designed to slash some parts of your body when you had to take a bag out or change an overly expensive health filter (piece of foam). I just need something that works, is reliable, easy and moves around, especially on stairs.

We have a Miele, a Dyson stick vac, and a shark robo vac. We use them for different purposes, but all have their place in our house. Miele came first though almost 10 years ago and it’s never had any issues.

Lapsuuden kodissani on minun ikäinen (noin 20 vuotias) Mielen imuri joka toimii edelleen hyvin ilman mitään moitteita. Välissä oli Electroluxin hiljainen imuri muutaman vuoden ajan koirien pelon vuoksi, mutta sitten palattiin uuteen Mieleen koska tuo Electrolux oli ihan surkea. Uusi Miele on sekin toiminut vuosikaudet luotettavasti.

I have 3 Dysons sitting in my basement. I use Miele now and am very happy with it.

I have hard floors, and don’t use a roller. For my area rugs, I’m not using a powered roller, feeling that level of agitation isn’t really needed for the kind of cleaning needed for my home.

We had a Dyson years ago. It: - Would trap a small grain of sand and put many scratches in our hardwood floors. - Was absolutely useless on carpet/rugs. - Had a battery that lasted maybe 15 minutes tops.  We still have the vacuum, sometimes I'll use it to quickly clean up some dog hair but I have maybe 30 seconds of battery life as long as I only do 5 second bursts. Our Miele we've had for around 10 years has been significantly better in every way.

Miele or whatever. Worked for a billionaire family and they had a fleet of these. Best vacuums I’ve ever used hands down. I am weirdly obsessive when an appliance works “pretty well” and these vacuums are incredible.

You may not have been however for this sub I did want to bring it up. I have a vacuum repair place near where I am and I am not sure how they are still open. Especially with all the more throw away vacuums I see at peoples houses. I went down the (Frugal but expensive?) route of upgrading from a cheap plastic dyson to a miele and honestly could have just kept my parents electrolux that still worked. I also believe that with a little research a DIY of changing a power cord is a very easy thing to do. It could be dangerous but so is driving to work.

Yeah, commercially the #1 canister. These are largely for home use and skewed to the US market where canisters are much less widely used.

My MILs Miele is incredible, and they have models around that budget. 

I just don’t get the Miele. We inherited one. Yes powerful yes reliable but honestly an absolute pig of a thing to pull out lug about and use. We got a Dyson V8 5 years ago that we use everyday. Pure ease and simplicity and powerful enough with a nice rage of attachments. The Miele never got used again after getting the Dyson so we got rid of it.

I own a conventional 20-gallon shop vacuum for hay and poops and a Miele for fur. Miele was what my friend who runs a cleaning service uses - she says she never has to replace them. I've had mine for 15 years and it's still going strong.

loving the idea of a cordless vacuum- why?? cords equal electrical current capable of driving powerful motors to clean really well!!! They don't degrade with time, they don't quit right when you need them. They are the miracle of power!! And get a bag, too, while you're at it. Quit falling for marketing! their job is to brainwash you to buy things, but you don't have to fall for it. I've tested both miele and sebo, their 'real' vacuums are both good. I bought a sebo, but if i had half off, I'd prob go for the miele. And I'd get a nice canister with bags and a cord (with auto cord retractors they all have).

Miele and sebo are both great and pretty similar, with differences in the power nozzles. Miele is not as user serviceable whereas the sebos et-1 brush is removable. The electric hoses can be a point of failure and the sebo if i remember right has replaceable components on the outside where as Mieles i believe have to replace the whole hose. As for bagged vs bagless, bagless machines are a little more work for the user as you need to maintain the filters and occasionally clean out the canister but are sometimes more convenient. Bagged machines are better if you have bad dust allergies and are generally lighter, because dust is bagged, filtration tends to be better and the canister is kept clean. You still have filters to change, but miele includes the basic ones with their bags which in my opinion are good for the average user. I personally got a miele at a really good price and have really enjoyed it so far. Since you have a lot of hardwood and low pile rugs, you could go for most miele models, theres the guard series, L1, etc. A model with the parquet XL head (16 in) will give a pretty big cleaning path for hard floors!

I have a few vacuums, one being a Sebo E3 and another is a Miele. I also have a Dyson V8 Absolute and I *absolutely* love it. I’ve had this one for a few years and use it almost daily around the kitchen. I recommend that one. It doesn’t have the digital screen, it’s not super heavy on the wrist, and it cleans well. If it were to break or stop working, I’d buy another one. Worth it.

If you want a powerful vacuum that’ll last decades, get a Miele or a Sebo. Cordless is nice, but you either have a heavy ass battery to move around constantly or you have an underpowered vacuum. Plus there aren’t many battery standards that have stuck around for decades, so you don’t run the chance of needing to replace your vacuum in 5 years just because the batteries aren’t available anymore.

Anecdotal, but Miele is the only vacuum that I've ever seen survive longer than a year in a commercial restaurant setting. High end country club with carpeted dining room that has at least 1 wine glass break per day

If you have only hardwood floors then anything is basically fine. Get the Miele if you have carpets

A lot of things on here *are* buy it for life, though. Even vacuums (my grandma has had her Miele since before I was born). So a lot of posts *are* literal. Though, I think this is (and already has been) becoming less common. Modern goods that used to be BIFL are dropping in build quality.

Just get a new piece and call it a day. That is a very rare thing to happen with a Miele I wouldn’t read too much into it.. it could happen with a 1300$ Sebo too…

Ik heb een Dyson V11 al jaren voor het elke dag snel stofzuigen en vooral de trap gaat hier lekker mee zonder snoer etc. Voor de wekelijkse goede stofzuig ronde een ouderwets Miele. Vind de Dyson echt heerlijk in gebruik maar het haalt bij lang niet goed alle stof en andere dingen van de vloer of banken (katten haren) in mijn mening.

My Miele was a HUGE disappointment. Scratched the hardwood floors (there is a sort of hook on the back which hits the floor when you're going under tables/beds) and the tube part (not the technical term - this is not my area of expertise) comes out if you pull too hard, which I do as I HATE vacuuming. I'm getting a robot.

My Miele has an infuriatingly short power cord, and my house is quite small

Both my Miele vacuums broke. Just not in a way that makes them nonfunctional. Although the plug that goes down to the powerhead it seems to break after multiple repairs. Also the cord retractor is terrible. But both my machines still suck like champs!!

I’ve cleaned for almost twenty years and I always go back to Miele. The only complaint I have is I wish all the floor heads had headlights. At my last visit to the vacuum store they did mention that Miele had moved their manufacturing and they now recommend Sebo, so I would also check those out. If you have a store locally, they are usually great if you buy from them, especially to cleaners. They even let me borrow floor models to test. Try to shop locally because it is worth the connection.

We just bought a cordless Coovy SU7. We have a Miele for the big job and 2 old iRobot (vaccum & cleaning), but still working, when we're outside. The Coovy was dedicated for the cars but surprisingly looks good enough for a short vacuum in the house. It's not a recommendation because it's new, but for the price it's worth giving it a try.

I’ve had the big ball pull behind for 12 years now and it’s been awesome. I’ve replaced parts. The suction is still great. It partners really well with my Roomba. I think the pull behinds are slept on. That said I don’t think I would get a battery operated vacuum. A miele vacuum is my game vacuum though.

I got one "used" as good as new from Amazon warehouse . Similar price . Admittedly a bargain . It was new with damaged packaging .

I returned my Miele after one clean solely due to Sebo's better + easier roller removal + cleaning. I don't understand how anyone lives with Miele's obscured roller. Just impossible to remove hair + strings from.

I swapped my Dyson for a Miele, never looked back

Henry every time, mine takes a BEATING. 3 kids, house reno, cars, pets, wet stuff...I take it apart and put it in the bath to soak then rinse it out and it's like new. Few drops of a nice essential oil on the filter bit and it smells lush. I have a miele as well that's just for upstairs no gross stuff, but it's brilliant!

I tried them both in a vacuum shop and ended up going with a Miele. It could suck ink off a newspaper.

Truth. I just tried to use my Miele for 30 seconds and it got clogged. Granted I’m sucking up some heinous stuff, but it just can’t keep up with my rainbow. I want to be able to suck anything up, and unfortunately a Miele just can’t do that, rather disappointing for a $1500 vacuum. It’s a good vacuum if I didn’t need to abuse my vacuum, unfortunately not the case. Not for a home with a lot of pets and humans.

I loved my Miele! The only bad thing about the Miele is if you sweep up sand (which it's supposed to do) it can cause the vac to fail. I lost my Miele to that but when it worked it was great! Lightweight and great suction.

The sand caused the bag to break and sucked it into the motor. End of vac :-( In fairness I live near Death Valley where there's a lot of sand, especially when the wind blows.

Do you live in a house or flat? Pets or no pets? I find that hoovers without cord are not as potent as a corded one, but maybe I am biased. If you can splurge, Miele is a great brand. If not, I have a Shark that is going strong for 4years (and counting).

Any money spent on a Dyson is just more money you’ll have to spend on a Miele later. I also spent like $400 on a Dyson only to have to spend more on a decent vacuum only a couple of years later. Ended up spending almost 1k on vacuums now but at least the Miele seems like it will outlast me if I look after it

I bought a Miele years ago and I have not regretted it once. It's so much better than my old Dyson and I've had zero problems.

A Dyson will not last, they are plastic junk, overpriced, over-hyped and junk... Bags have way better filtration, some vacuum brands bags are more expensive than others (like Miele). Most bagless vacuums are junk. Rainbows are a classic, water pan filtration. Old school but can find parts and lots of vintage models, among the brands that people collect. Last forever? Older Kirby, older hoover convertible, older eurekas/sanitares. Anything built before planned obsolescence. But not so old that it's a rare collectible with hard to find parts... Good filtration, noise level and new? Miele or sebo....

Sebo are expensive, but they are incredible. If you can afford it, I recommend. Miele are also great. The place I purchased from had both on display. I preferred the Sebo for the ease of removing the brush roller. This makes it really easy to remove the hair that gets wrapped around it.

Your hair and cats bear no role in the decision process. There are many BIFL vacuums, but buying one is a question of floor types and you mentioned carpet, but do you have any smooth floors? Miele is an excellent choice as many of them have the ability to turn off the beater for smooth floor use as well as carpet.

I don't know if I would call Eufy an off-brand Roomba when they are a legitimate brand that generally performs better than a Roomba 😂 Regardless I agree with you. Especially with a kid on the way, the time saved with a robot vacuum will be priceless. I have tile, floorboards and low pile rugs and the robot vacuum has no problems. You can usually set it to go around the house twice if you think it needs it but I find vacuuming once a day does the job. The top brands are Eufy, Dreame and Roborock. If you want a regular vacuum you can't go wrong with a Miele. For a cordless, I would recommend the Shark Pet over a Dyson if you're dealing with a lot of hair.

price of replacement parts is a huge reason i recommend sebo vacuums. every time i have to look up a part for a miele vacuum i already know it’s going to cost 3x-4x what it should.

bagless vacuums will let dust into the air. bagged vacuums that have a sealed system with high grade filtration won’t. i’d recommend a sebo or miele.

I have the Dyson v8. I also have a miele. It’s just 2 different use cases. A stick is perfect for small spaces and ease of use. My v8 is probably 8 years old? I replaced the filter and battery with 3rd party materials and it’s got fantastic suction, will run for 20 mins on full and just as powerful as miele on “normal” setting. Less so then Miele on full power - but in fairness, can barely the Miele on full power plus then it “jumps” over dirt, so rarely use it.

Odd, because their website claims in bold print that they are the west coast's largest AUTHORIZED Sebo dealer. They have been in business since the 1950's and have excellent customer service. I have purchased a Sebo and a Miele from them and have been very pleased. (They even sent me a t-shirt that says "Business has sucked for 75 years!!" My son wears it.)

Go to an actual vacuum store and tell them your needs — when I did this, they loaned me 3 vacuums for a weekend to try them! I ended up with a Miele.

I’ve purchased 4 Miele vacuums in the last 25 years as a Border Collie mom. The only reason I’ve purchased more than one is I’ve handed them down to my kids as they’ve left home. All of them still work perfectly.

Miele. My mom bought me one for a gift, 12 years ago when I got my own place for the first time. It still runs great. Shes had hers maybe 2-4 years longer than me and still loves it.

I also agree. We had a Miele that lasted for almost 20 years, and we had a minimum of 2 heavily shedding dogs for that time with only 1 repair. When we replaced it 2 years ago, we bought another.

The Miele you have is not intended for carpet so don't go with that. And it makes zero sense to replace a garbage cordless Shark with a garbage corded Shark. Take a look at the Simplicity S20EZM. It doesn't have a brush roll shut off but it does have manual height adjustment and HEPA filtration. If you have a Sebo dealer near you then Dart is $400 until 12/3 and that is a great vacuum for carpet and bare floors.

The advantage to something like a Sebo, and to a slightly lesser extent Miele, is that you are buying a product that has exceptional build quality and is highly repairable should the need arise.

Yeah, had an assistant that worked for a vacuum repair/sales and she was adamant that Dyson was crap. The other models would literally clean up what the Dyson couldn’t. Miele is the best but my shark is lighter. So it depends on what you’re looking for.

I bought a Miele four years ago based on vac-tech recommendations and it’s been such a fantastic vacuum. We have young children who (like their parents) can sometimes be a little mischievous or naughty, or in fairness, just curious. Twice I’ve had parts break as a result of their, uh, curiosity and scientific experimentation with the vacuum. One piece was the bent section of the handle, and the other a coupling piece, but both times I was able to painlessly and easily order replacement apartments and install them myself. It’s fantastic, performs excellent, and isn’t designed with planned obsolescence in mind.

Miele. Had it for 30 years now.

Miele vacuums. Simple, no gizmos or cheap plastic crap that gets lost and breaks off. Just simple and strong, and repairable if it does break. Ive had mine a decade or so, works as new.

I grew up using a miele, and those are the right choice for professionals. For at home, nothing compares with a Dyson. They’re incredible.

Which, in my opinion, Dysons are. The batteries can be replaced, or modded to accept tool batteries, they do not require filters, they’re easily repairable, and they’re incredibly convenient to use, which encourages regular vacuuming, leading to a cleaner home. People talk a lot about socks here, and those don’t last five years. Dysons are solid for at least a decade. Our Meile is pushing 20, but my mom has probably spent thousands on bags, and she’s had to repair the elbow mechanism more than once. I think it’s more than appropriate to discuss quality items here, even if they won’t last two generations. If we only talked about things that lasted that long, our sub would be full of hand tools and leather goods. I think it’s pretty widely accepted here that this sub has evolved into a sub where we seek out the highest quality entries for any product category. Miele always ranks #1, but that doesn’t mean Dyson isn’t the right choice for a lot of people. Habits are for life, and Dyson vacuums make it easier to get into the habit of vacuuming.

1-2 years of use from a Dyson does not line up with my experiences. I’ve had two and they’re incredible workhorses. I grew up using nice Miele vacuums and the Dyson is way better for me since it’s easier to just whip out. Setting up a cord and lugging around the Miele body always made vacuuming my least favorite chore. With a Dyson, I find that I use it more. When tou consider that I’m keeping a cleaner place, that means that less dirt and dust will be around in my house which is good for health, and for keeping my other things nice. There are tradeoffs with owning a Dyson. Miele makes a better machine, but Dyson delivers a better experience. P.S. Dysons have filters that you need to clean to keep them working. The filter is washable and intended to be reused. Mieles require vacuum bags and replaceable air filters. Tradeoffs. Now if I were a housekeeper, you bet your ass I’d be using a Miele.

My Miele is the one my parents got when I was little (2-3 years old). I'm 27 and it's still a solid vacuum, only issue is that the hose connection to the body is wearing, but that's more a concern that it will break than any actual issue

I have a Miele that I used to use for clients. I do not recommend. It is far too expensive for the amount of wear and tear it got dragging it around to client’s houses. I no longer use any of my own products.

I'm in my 70's and used cheaper vacs that didn't work that well until I found the Miele. Always had dogs and all of them shed, lol, so I know it works well with pet hair. We had our first Miele for over 15 years and finally replaced it with another one, which we've had for about 7 (?) years. Prices of a new one are $399 to $829. These are new models that I haven't used, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one if I need it.

Get a Henry, Currys have a sale on atm. If you want to splurge then get a Miele, they're really good and great if you have pets Also it's not a Hoover (that's a brand name), it's a vacuum cleaner

For the hair alone you need a corded vacuum. Spend Dyson money and get a sebo k3 or Miele

Mieles are great. Just that it's a lot more convenient if you have a long cord when you're dealing with big homes Lindhaus doesn't have a big dealer network, and they're focused on the commercial market, which is probably why you haven't heard of them Make sure to get the HF6 with the powerhead

I bought a Miele for $1,000 and the thing was a piece of junk. Apparently it had a known issue and I wasn’t aware of it for a year. Vacuuming was a nightmare. I tried getting it fixed it but then it broke again. I would have returned it but I’m just always so extremely exhausted from a medical issue, I just never had the energy to deal with it. I threw it away and I’ll never buy another one again.

Last time I went down this rabbit hole I stumbled into a dealer after 15 hours of not sleeping to buy a Miele.

i've had my miele for 20+ years. It has fallen down stairs, it has been whacked around corners, it has eaten cat hair and leaves and small rocks without complaint. The only time it ever broke is when my roommate used it like a shopvac when the basement flooded, which the dealer repaired in a couple days. The suction is also permanently stuck on high because i'm too lazy to take it in. Highly recommend.

I have a Miele and it’s great. Buying them can be a little confusing because there are lots of different models, heads, etc. But as long as you get one with a power head for carpets, you probably won’t be disappointed. We have very little carpet in our house so I bought the model that Costco was selling (no power head). It’s been perfect.

Sebo. It’s the new Electrolux. I went from electrolux (40 years of service, inherited from my mom) which was amazing, to a Miele (20 years of service, inherited from step mom) to a Dyson Animal. The Dyson lasted 12 years before I got sick of it. I bought a Sebo! I’m 58 and I won’t need another vacuum before I die.

When Dyson first came out, and were taking the marketshare away from all the other vacuum cleaner brands. We had a rep in from Miele.he took a Dyson & a similarly priced Miele off the floor display and proceeded to demonstrate the Miele's superiority on different surfaces,and finished off by picking up a house brick with the hose attachment, where the Dyson failed miserably. I'm still using the same model from 20 years ago.

Everyone is gonna say Dyson, but no. My family has owned a vacuum retailer chain for 90 or so years and the best vacuums for fur are simplicity or Miele. Dysons might seem cool and hip but they break real easily.

We never tried the shark. Ultimately, we bought some aftermarket parts for our dyson and it works good as new. I love the dyson stick vacuum for quick pickups. We also have a Miele for the whole house

Can confirm we've a decade+ old Miele one that's as good as day one. We don't use it as much though, the cordless is just so much handier. The Miele one though I used to hoover up after some building work. I swept like five times, thought I had got all the heavy stuff, used the Miele, and 90% of the way through it started making a loud whine and had gotten really hot. Bugger, I thought. I've fucked this. But I just swapped the bag, replaced the filter, waited for it to cool down, and she was back to normal again. That was 7 years ago, and she still runs.

You will love Miele. I had it for >6mons and it is doing it's job. I wish i went to purchase Sebo if i have extra dollars.

As a person who had a Miele for 15 years and just replaced it last week with a new SEBO D4 I love getting something brand new after using the same thing for many years. But with that being said, I would love my home to be equipped with central vacuuming. I honestly recommend simply replacing the motor in your central vacuum system. I think after 18 years under $400 for a replacement motor is really cheap.

I don’t have pets, but the Miele vac is what I have for 15 years and it worked perfectly for the full 15 years before it started showing its age. Never once broke down. Nothing ever got stuck in it. The Miele models of today are not as great unless you buy their mid tier or higher end. Today I’m using a SEBO and love it even more than the Miele.

I literally just finished vacuuming with our Miele. We have 3 kids, 2 cats and a dog and this thing is the goat. I also have one of those cordless Dysons, which are good for spot cleaning here and there, but if I run the Miele immediately after the Dyson, it still picks up dirt! They go on sale sometimes, too. I bought ours from a small local vacuum place in BC called Big Gary’s Vacuums. They were matching the sale price at Costco.

We also bought one of the pet ones. I was sceptical of using something with bags with so much pet hair, but they take longer to fill than I anticipated and the air does feel cleaner. I’m not sure what will make you love it if you don’t already. What do you feel like it’s not doing? We have both hard floors and carpet and it’s been great.

I’d contact them. They have a warranty on all their vacuums. It’s unusual to hear a Miele isn’t doing its job. Could be your settings or could be something wacky with your particular machine.

Nope. I never, ever liked my Dyson. I love my Miele, though. I also have an inexpensive cordless Trucozie T550 for quick pick ups that is amazing.

I e had my Miele for more than 15 years. The vacuum works great, 2 cats, 2 kids. The only problem is we had a plastic component break on have been u able to replace it. So our vacuum is permanently extended. But the rest is phenomenal with hair.

Lmao I'd never seen the face on Henry before 😂 It kinda reminds me of my shop vac. I'd say the Miele so far has been nicely portable for my needs, I only wish the cord was like 10ft longer.

Miele vacuums are fantastic, we’ve had one for 20 years which is still going strong. 

I bought one of their stick vacuums and the battery died in less than a year. Couldn't just send me a new battery, sent me an entire unit and all the accessories. That one died even faster but they wouldn't replace it as it was "outside the original warranty period". They offered me a discount and I said never again. Found this sub and bought a Miele. Best vacuum ever.

Miele. Great appliances generally to be honest. Expensive but I see as investments, instead of buy several cheaper things spend the money and buy something that is going to last and stand the test of time

When I moved from bagless vacuums to a Miele and a Sebo you'll notice how strong the suction is and how quiet it is compared to the average bagless vacuum. The materials are thicker and nicer. With Sebos I really like how much I can take it apart and replace almost anything myself. Do try one out in person first, many people prefer uprights to canisters. I grew up with Kenmore canister vacuums so I didn't have to adjust how I vacuum.

I bought the Dyson sphere back in the day thinking the ball would make vacuuming easier and would roll easy.   It wa made out of hard plastic then would grind the dirt sand and rocks into the wood floor if it didn’t pick it up the first time.    I hated my Dyson ball.   I love my Miele. 

Shark, Miele or if you are able to get one a Henry. Dyson have always been arguably better at marketing than manufacturing but in recent years their quality has worsened.

I have 2 Miele's, one that I inherited (around 25 years old) and one that I purchased (around 15 years old). They are a bit more expensive than most other brands, but Miele straight robs you blind with their cost on bags and filters.

I used to have to replace Briscoes vacuum cleaner every 3 -4 years. My current Miele is now 12 years old and it is still going strong. Enough said.

Miele all the way. I've always hated the Dyson products are all like "look at me, I'm a complicated and loud contraption!" And then they crap out anyways.

I will die with my Miele. We've had it for 12+ years now, and only had to do a minor repair once, which I was able to do with help from youtube. Hands down, one of the best home purchases we've ever done.

I have that shark. It works well with a golden retriever and carpets. But I wish I had gone with my preference and gotten the Miele. My partner is British and swears by the upright vacuums, so I obliged, but it's much more tiring. If you can stretch your budget a bit, look at a Miele, unlike Dyson etc they are worth a premium!

With no stairs and carpet to think about, corded may be better as you can’t match the power on carpet and you don’t have to worry about dragging it up and down stairs. I highly recommend Miele as a brand, mine is prehistoric and still going strong, similar levels of inconvenience as a Henry. However for me, it’s such a pain in the arse to get it out that 90% of the time I use my folding rechargeable Shark and absolutely love it. I highly recommend shopping second hand, particularly if going for cordless as there’s no battery degradation to worry about, though I inherited my Shark second hand and it’s still stellar. If you’re worried about faults, Shark do say they have a five year guarantee and buying on credit card will give you Section 75 protection on the off chance they don’t honour it. Shark also have 4.2% cashback on TopCashback right now as a potential extra little saving.

Definitely skip the Shark. The Dyson I had seemed gimmicky. It just didn’t live up to the hype. I own that exact Miele. For hard wood or laminate floors it’s great. Also for lower shag rugs and carpet. Don’t have any high shag carpet in my home, so I can’t comment on it’s performance there.

I had a Dyson before we got our Miele. I bought the vactec hype and got the Miele a few years ago and did a head to head test. The Miele picked up so much dirt the Dyson has missed. It was pretty shocking.

We've had a Miele for at least 15 years now. It's actually repairable! I initially was offended at the price, but it has been worth it.

I had a shark from Costco and it sucked after a bit. Bought a Miele and that thing fuckin rips. Best vacuum I ever had, 3 dog's and 3 cats with all carpet.

It's honestly the best vacuum I have ever had and it's not even close. It wasn't cheap but neither are Dyson's and they're garbage from what I've experienced. I think I was 400ish give or take and I live in Canada.  The "powered" head on mine spins the head by the air flowing through the head so if you get something stuck it doesn't burn out a motor. It's honestly the best design I could think of. Theres a dial on the head to let more or less air through. The only complaint I have is that it works too good and everytime I use it I have to take scissors and cut the hair that's caught around the head in the brushes but it's not the vacuums fault I have a fucking hobby farm on a carpet sooo. The other head without the spinner is fucking ridiculously strong. I cannot vacuum a rug with it because it sucks so hard. I have to hold one side down with my foot and pull away and it's still hard haha. I usually go over the carpet a few times with the regular suction head then throw the old turbo head on 🏍️ You won't regret it. 

Riccar cordless for quick touch ups. Miele is the best of all for doing a thorough job.

Those Sebo and Miele vacuums last fucking forever so there ya go.

My thoughts are buy a refurbished Sebo, Lindhaus, or Miele, a good amount cheaper but the vacuums are of such high quality that they can be rebuild and still last 20 years

Dyson stick vacuum cleaners are the easiest to use and the best design for domestic use  IMO.   I had a miele in the past, and dragging around a cleaner on little wheels and replacing bags is terrible: I don't care how long they last.

I have a Miele for deep clean and Dyson for spot clean. Perfect combo

Miele! My husband and I did a ton of research after being disappointed with our Dyson. We have two dogs and 2 cats and about 1400 square feet. I wasn’t sold on a canister vacuum at first but now I’ll never go back. Bagged vacuums are considered “better” for people with allergies

Goedkoop is duurkoop. Een goede stofzuiger kost gewoon een paar centen. Ga voor een goede Miele, dan zit je goed. Daarvoor een tijdlang een Dyson gehad, duur kreng, veel herrie, weinig vermogen.

I have a miele with wood floors, have never had scratching. They roll very smooth

And if you ever do need to replace your vacuum, hop on over to eBay and pick up a Miele or Royal 4000.  Those things are bulletproof and work better than any lame plastic bagless you're finding on Amazon.

Dyson and Shark are Garbage. If you can afford and/or save up the money for a Miele or Sebo, those are one of the Best vacuums you can buy.

Sebo and Miele are BIFL. Dyson is not BIFL. If you buy a Sebo, the manual comes with an exploded parts diagram where you can buy each and every part. Dyson does not have this because when something breaks, they want you to buy a new vacuum. Same goes for Shark, Bissell and other bagless garbage that people keep recommending.

Dyson does a good job at advertising but they’re horrible at being vacuums. Go to any vacuum shop and you’ll see piles of them there waiting to get fixed. It’s Miele or nothing. All parts are made by Miele. Mine came with a 7 year warranty.

Any decent Miele will take you into the next century.

Agree my Miele is 16 years old and had no issues.

I have a Mielie, a dyson cordless thing and a henry. The henry is grand, but does get my goat when tripping over itself all the damn time.

We used to do one vacuum on the top floor and a stick vac to cover the rest. We replaced the stick with a Miele that is light enough to carry between floors. I keep the stick in the basement.

Miele. Phenomenal bit of kit, I think it will out last me.

Don't know, in 12 years I've never needed one. I'm guessing not many can say that about a Dyson. I'm lead to believe that if you contact them in Germany they will always get a part for you too for every product they have ever sold.

It's very lightweight and extremely powerful for its size with good run time. We live in a large old house with 3 kids and a pet. I have a 15 year old Miele which is fantastic, but I'll be damned if I'm going to drag that thing up and down three floors regularly. Our Dyson V6 is 8+ years old and still going strong. It does 90% of the vacuuming because it can be easily picked up to spot clean a specific area and does a good job of it. Yes, it requires a bit more maintenance (cleaning) than the Miele, but it also doesn't require bags that are several dollars each, and again, most importantly, makes vacuuming a LOT easier.

Hmm. Nearly 10 years on mine here. My Miele is *really* bifl now because it hardly gets any use.

I love the Meile vacuum cleaners! The suction is unparalleled; bring it outside to vacuum my vehicles bc they are so great. I take both vacuums for cleaning once a year and they have lasted over 15 years.

Inaccurate. Meile is the best and it it an objective fact. Ask any vacuum nerd.

i buy vacuums constantly for work. dyson is hands down the worst value. i'd say i put a 5 year beating on a vacuum in about 6 months. you'll find shark and meile to be the best value at each end of the price point.

I own a cleaning business and have had as many as 3 labs at once and only use a shark pro model.I had a meile for when my daughter lived at home because she was allergic to dogs.If you have anyone with allergies then the Meile is the way to go. If you just want max suction for dog hair get the shark rotator models,not navigator

Love ours. We have the Cat & Dog. There is a learning curve to all the settings but once you get that down, it's pretty painless. It's over ten pounds lighter than our old Orec canister and it fixed the traffic wear patterns in our bedroom carpet. I was going to file a complaint about the carpeting until we got the Meile. Now I know the old Orec wasn't cleaning worth a \*\*\*\*.

Doesn’t exist. If it is powerful, it will work for one month and never the same again. An old royal hotel vac, Electrolux, or meile are what actually work in my experience.
