The Miele C3 is my recommendation for those wanting superior filtration. It’s not of the only two vacuums I can think of that are H13-rated HEPA. Most hepa is lower grade and less effective. It might bend be H14. Filters 99.999% of all particles down to 0.3 microns. Efficacy rating for 0.1 microns is 99.95%.

Depends on the needs. I’ve owned many premium vacs. Kirby, Rainbow, Hyla, Riccar, Sebo, Miele, and several cheaper vacs like Dyson, Shark, Kenmore, etc. This includes Riccar Tandem Air upright, Kirby Avalir, Rainbow E2 & SRX, Hyla N and EST Defender, Miele C3, Miele CX1 Blizzard, Sebo E3 and D4 Premium canisters. Canister - Miele Complete C3 Brilliant - easiest canister to use - best-filtering - most suction and airflow out of all canisters I’ve used - best-cleaning power nozzles - comes with my favorite hard floor tool - don’t have to bend over to do things with it Upright - Kirby Avalir - best-cleaning vac for carpet that I have used/ owned - highest airflow available (higher airflow = better carpet cleaning) - most aggressive power nozzle with firm brush roll - this is my heavy-hitter for maximum dirt removal from carpet - can do a ton of other things but carpet is where they shine - I do feel it does a better job cleaning than my Riccar Tandem Air did on our carpet. Water-based Filtration Vac - Rainbow E2 - when paired with the SRX PN3 v1 power nozzle, it cleans carpet very well. - like the Miele C3, it is H13-rated HEPA - parts availability is awesome - super easy to service - The Hyla is a little easier to use and pull around but it doesn’t have as much suction as the Rainbow E2.

This I have a C3 brilliant I do like it. It’s great, but looking at the same vacuum cleaner sold in Asia and Europe when you do the price conversion, they are getting the same thing for several hundred dollars less.

For a true BIFL vacuum, I recommend a SEBO or Miele. Check Facebook Marketplace for cheaper ones. I got [my Miele C3 Brilliant](https://www.reddit.com/r/BuyItForLife/s/dR0WlzOud3) on FB Marketplace for under $100 after sorting search by newest and monitoring listings throughout the day for a couple weeks. For the best cordless vacuum, Henry Quick. Or, Hoover OnePWR is pretty good. I also recommend asking this question in r/VacuumCleaners. You’ll get much more informed advice. It’s a wonderful sub. Check the sub’s buying guides as well!

The wands failing, hoses going bad, internal connection sockets frying, cord reels going bad. Even some of the reviews in the links posted comment on some of these issues. Both models you posted aren't in the US product line either so that is a different ball of wax than US dealers have anyway. In the USA, the longest warranty you can get is 5 years total and that just on the Homecare models. The rest are only 1-3 years now. And if that problem happen again, you've only got six months coverage on it. The C3 HomeCare + for instance has gone up over $300 since 2020 (retail MAP is $1779 US these days.) Significant price increases on many other models like the Marin and Brilliant too (both of which only have a 3 year warranty now.) Perhaps things are different in Canada and perhaps Miele is just pulling this just in the US, but I am simply stating what I've seen managing retail/repair shops in the states so buy/don't buy any crap you wish.

So I have an 800 sqft 1br with my senior kitty and my partner. I bought a used Miele S8 uniQ (today's C3 brilliant)) from a cleaning person for $300, 4 yrs old. It's an $1800 vacuum and I grew up using my parents "lesser" Miele electro canister (today's C3 Kona) which was $850 at the time ($850 today if you're lucky or get open box). And the difference in convenience between a normal Miele canister and the Brilliant is a little insane imo. Fingertip power, suction, and brushroll controls coupled with onboard tools like all the Miele premium canisters have is almost inviting to vacuum a little more. Like take out another tool and vacuum into another new crevice. This is to say I think fingertip controls are towards the top of my list for vacuums convenience features, along with the canister form factor, bags, and a cord rewind. I think a canister is best to be most versatile and for easier transport and storage. It's also the best for various above floor cleaning tasks with handheld tools. Typical vacuum bags (from Kenmore, Miele, or Sebo) would last you 3-9 months with regular cleaning. Maybe 1-2 months in the beginning catching up on lost vacuuming time 😅 A Miele bag lasts us about 7months, packs super densely (about 10lbs), and the vacuum still retains like 80% power (at worst) when the bag is nearing full, 90%+. A Miele at 80% power is a good day for most other vacuums. Checkout rtings.com to get the suction and airflow numbers for a bunch of vacuums compared ( nowhere else I've found can directly compare the Dyson v15 to the miele C3). By being bagged you don't need to ever do any cleaning or washing, just toss the bag every few months and swap the filter every year or few. These bagged machine will last decades with care, easily. Hair wraps are unfortunately inevitable (and even with anti wrap brushrolls they still entrap the ends of the rollers over time). So wider diameter brushrolls are more resistant than skinnier ones ,but both will require regular maintenance (cutting of the hair every 3 months to year). Most Animal hair doesn't tend to get wrapped, only longer human hair and the longest animal hair. So buying new you should buy the Kenmore elite bagged canister off amazon. It's even available for as low as $230 Amazon open box "used". It has fingertip controls, a carpet brush, great filtration, and can last decades with care. Use only Kenmore bags & filters! It's not as powerful or quiet as a Miele but it's like 1/5th the cost so that's acceptable imo. If noise level is a very serious concern, then I would recommend seeking a used Miele deal. They are the quietest vacuums on the market with the highest suction, which is to say they still have incredible power at their lower, even quieter power levels. If you're open to buying used off Facebook marketplace, and you live in a metro area with good availability, you can get a Miele brilliant for about $400 and I think that's a no-brainer for the absolute best vacuum money can buy 😅 Buying used has some considerations, like sussing out the seller and making sure they only used Miele bags. After buying a used vacuum like a Miele it's good form to get it checked out by a local Miele tech to make sure the internals are all clear. This check could also be done by yourself with a lot of youtube videos, courage, and care but a tech checkup is usually $100. If you have a flexible budget, extending it to be able to buy a new Miele or Sebo is worth it. The machine will easily last 20-40 years and be ready for any cleaning task, no compromise (other than being corded). Tbh even if you don't, it's worth going into a local vacuum dealer and trying out the Mieles and Sebos and see/hear for yourself how quiet and powerful they are. A Kenmore, Miele, or Sebo will get your carpets and home fully clean from dust. The differences are really QOL between the 3 (and cost). New Miele recs would be the Miele C3 Marin (Kona for cheaper, brilliant for full fantasy). New Sebo would be the Sebo E3 or D4, but the D4 is bulky and heavy which... Is not it IMO.

Asking for the "best" will certainly incite some (friendly) beef but I'll throw my (predictable) hat in the ring and say Go full fantasy and buy the Miele C3 Brilliant/Homecare+ model. It's Mieles C3 canister (quieter, longer cord, with onboard tools) and it's the most premium C3 canister with overheat protection, auto shutoff when parking, a filter timer, and, best of all, fingertip power/suction/brushroll controls. When being the one doing the vacuuming, fingertip controls are absolutely indispensable for convenience and agility when switching between floor types, surfaces, and attachments. If you or a loved one are not the one doing the vacuuming and you're concerned the fingertip controls might get damaged, get the Miele C3 Marin (or Homecare E). It has all the features of the premium C3 body minus the fingertip controls, which eliminates an expenny point of failure. FYI I have a used Miele c3 with fingertip controls from a cleaning company and it still works like a dream but the special hose is certainly a premium if you ever have to replace it (hopefully you won't). You should find a local Miele dealer (use the Miele website) and buy the Homecare models from a store to get the 5 year warranty. Mieles are stronger, quieter, and have a higher grade of filtration than Sebos (corroborated through measures like RTINGS and performance reviews, as well as anecdote). Anecdotally it also seems they pack their bags tighter than Sebos, so the bags last a little longer/the machine maintains good suction with a near full bag. Sebos come with a 7/10 year warranty and people like that they come from an industrial design background. They certainly look and feel industrial, which is also another point for Miele in my subjective opinion. The Sebo e3 And d4 come with fingertip controls, which is nice and a genuine boon. Yet again however I prefer Mieles hard floor tool (the parquet twister) and Mieles electro premium carpet brush (the seb236) over Sebos included tools. To give Sebo the best shot, you should try them both out side by side in a local vacuum dealer who's certified to sell both! Idt you'd dislike the Miele C3 but if you end up liking the Sebo e3 or D4, then go for it! You really can't go wrong with either.

If you can swing ~$850 I'd say buy the Miele C3 Kona from a local Miele dealer. They're on sale now until the end of the holiday season apparently. The Kona comes with an electric power brush for deep cleaning of carpeting as well as a natural bristle hard floor brush for all hard flooring, especially delicate floors. Miele hard floor tool is definitely the best in the biz (but some people really like Sebos parquet tool (I hate the wheels)). The Kona is also part of their lineup that comes with the HEPA filter installed. The C3 excellence model has the smaller electro carpet brush and combi floor tool, without a broad filter for around $700 as well. The C1 cat&dog model is slightly cheaper ($700) with the same carpet & hard floor brush. It also comes with the charcoal filter instead of the HEPA but you can swap those as you please. The C1 has a marginally shorter cord and is slightly louder. Tbh I recommend Miele because you mention your new floors are "luxury" and if maintaining them (as well as being comfortable) are important to you, then a Miele vacuum is the only option in my eyes, for someone who values luxury/comfort. Any Miele will last DECADES with appropriate care. Make sure to thoroughly read the instruction manual and only use Miele bags! Any Kenmore bagged canister (say the elite for $400 new) would also be able to clean your new hard floors with their hard floor brush and clean carpet with their electro brush. The Kenmore can last a few decades, but you're likely to experience a hose break as the first issue with it, assuming you use Kenmore bags. The Kenmore is categorically worse than the Miele but is also half the price (with some more features like finger tip controls and lights on the cleaner head) and will still clean & operate better than the majority of vacuums on the market (bagless). The fully featured Miele "fantasy" are the Homecare+ or Brilliant models (the Homecare + is only sold in stores and comes with a 5 yr warranty). They also have fingertip controls and lights galore. The fingertip controls are certainly a killer feature but these machines retail for about $1800. It's probably $~1500 with the ongoing sale (but it seems like the sale doesn't apply to the flagship models 😭). The Miele Marin is the "value" buy with some nice features like a filter timer and overheat protection as well as a lit carpet brush. It's being sold for $1000 now with this sale. Use Mieles website to find a vacuum dealer near you and try out the models and ask for the best price!

Miele’s SEB236 has lights (It comes on a few C3 models) I own this and it’s great. Although I’d wouldn’t make a vacuum purchase solely on this feature IMO. It’s nice don’t get me wrong. But I’d honestly prefer the easily removable brushroll of Sebo’s ET-1 powerhead.

Re: upright vs canister. I can’t say much more than old man has already said. But imo your best option is to find a local Miele/Sebo dealer and take a dart/felix/k3 and a Miele C1 cat and dog for a test drive to see if *you* prefer an upright or a canister. there is no right answer, it’s purely personal preference. For me, I prefer a canister. (Miele C3) It’s lights out on hard flooring vs an upright (sans Felix) IMO. But admittedly there is a learning curve for carpet because the motor doesn’t glide along as easy. What helped me get used to the canister was vacuuming *IN* to the room. Rather than backing out of it like so many do with an upright. I’m a total convert to canisters now, they’re very light in the hand, maneuverable and easy for above floor cleaning. The Felix is a good in-between. It has a hard floor attachment but is still an upright form factor.

Pros: Filtration: my allergies are basically gone after switching from bagless. This was worth the price of admission alone. Lifespan: My C3 is almost a decade old and performs as it did on day 1 with only 1 (common) issue with the wand collapsing. I was burning through vacuums every 2 years and wasting a ton of money (and resources tbh) on vacuums. So this was a big selling point for me. Maneuverability: a canister form factor is way more versatile IMO than an upright. The wand makes it easy to get in to nooks and crannies that an upright just can’t. Not to mention the above floor cleaning ability. I’d also check out a Sebo k3 or e3. They’re every bit as good (arguably better) than a Miele and have a much longer warranty. Cons: Cost. That’s it. But if you buy a $1k vacuum and it lasts 20+ years, is it really *that* expensive? (Only buy genuine bags if you want it to last that long - don’t cheap out and get 3rd party bags)

Miele without a doubt is the best of that list. IMO be careful ordering something like this from Amazon. I’ve seen lots of used/b-stock/broken vacuums being passed off as “new” from Amazon. To no fault of Miele, it’s just Amazon’s shitty commingled inventory system. Check r/vacuumcleaners and do some reading. Then imo the best bet is to find a local vacuum store that sells Miele and Sebo. Go take a few for a test drive and buy through them. You’ll support a small business and chances are they can price match Amazon or at least throw in some freebies (bags or accessories)

Definitely don’t buy a $75 cordless vacuum. It will be in the trash before the New Year then you’ll be looking to replace it, wasting even more money. If you can stretch slightly (a bit). Keep an eye out for Black Friday sales for a Hoover Complete performance or Kenmore intuition. Agreed with Performance reviews - used is a great option for that budget. The old ones yes do last more than a couple years. However, New sharks are an absolute joke. Disposable. A well built machine likely won’t have any issues in the first place, but if they do it’s easily repaired. For example I’ve had my Miele C3 for almost a decade and have had 0 issues with it. It will likely last another decade or longer before I give it to my kids or family. What’s your budget and flooring like?

Just a heads up the Miele C3 Multi Surface is from Costco CANADA. It isn't available through the U.S. Costco. If you live, work, or visit Canada it can be a great value but you don't get any U.S. warranty. To your question the turbo brush is good for low to medium pile rugs. If you have long pet or human hair I don't like turbo brushes because the narrow diameter gets more hairwrap than a electric powerhead that is usually wider diameter. If you don't have half or more rugs and you don't have to deal with lots of long hair the turbo brush is fine. You can also clean the rugs with the Allteq SBD 365 combo brush. You retract the brushes and lower the suction. No brushroll means no hairwrap. I wouldn't want to vacuum a whole carpeted room with this brush because it's more arm work but for a few area rugs and delicate rugs it's fine.

Any of the bagged and corded Bosch/Siemens canisters will outperform that Kenmore bagless vacuum any day You just need a pure suction, corded, bagged vacuum In terms of budget, I'd go Bosch/Siemens in the middle tier, Miele C3 and Sebo E1/K1 in the upper tier If looking at cordless, you can look at the Vorwerk ones

Our boys really only shed in the Spring. That said I've gone through two Dysons in 3 years. The problem is if ANYTHING other than fur gets picked up, (twig, leaf, pine needle, moss), the Dyson immediately stops sucking. Then I have to take apart the hoses and manually clean them out. So, on average, for every whole house cleaning, I have two manual unclogging sessions. The air path in the Animal and Multi-Floor models have three 60° turns which is where the clogs occur. I tried Kenmore, (DON'T) and Shark, (broke after 4 months) and finally settled on a used Meile C3. It uses expensive bags, (grrr) BUT the level of clean afterwards is amazing. It's a straight suction line from floor to bag and the floor is spotless afterwards. I know Meile machines cost a fortune, ($1,200 new) but it really is the last vacuum you'll ever need. I found my used C3 on Facebook Marketplace for $300 and can't recommend it highly enough. It just works. Period. Best of luck with your Flooofy new friend! Lots and lots of picture posts please! ❤️

I did, best decision for wife happiness in a while next to the speed queen washer/dryer. I had Dyson big ball vacuums for the decade prior and they are hot garbage after 6-12 months of use. You have to tear apart the canister to clean the caked on dust and dried skin out of it for it to not smell like a moldy foot every time you turn it on. Oh, and the Hepa filter is a royal pain to change on the newer big ball models and if you don't change it (dyson doesn't tell you you need to every 6-12 months) it burns up the motor. The Meile C3 is a bagged vacuum that only has a hose that can cake up with that junk and that's unlikely. If it starts stinking, you change the bag and you have a new vacuum again. I'd rather spend $1,400 once (theoretically for 15+ years) and $80/year in bags than spending $300-500 every two years on a new crappy vacuum.

The answer is that you need 2 vacuums: - a handheld (Dyson) - a full size (Miele) I would use the handheld every day to get all the tumbleweeds under the dining table, under furniture, and around the perimeter of all rooms. Then the housekeeper uses the full size vacuum on all the carpets.

This is good for a major once a week jobs Wet dry: think tineco, some people swear by them, I used them for 1 week and could not stand the smell that lingers if you don’t dry it out right or that I’ve become the vacuum cleaner. I’d have the shark with a stick to use daily or crumbs + Miele C1/Karcher WD1 for when I want a big job done every now and then

With the Miele, upgrading to a powered head would involve purchasing an electric hose, wand and power brush, which is pricey. If you truly want/need a powered nozzle, look at the units already equipped and then compare them to the Sebo k3/e3. The Mieles are more refined units in terms of user friendliness, but the Sebos are very nice units without the bells and whistles. It all depends on what you prefer for your vacuuming style. The Sebo bags are both smaller than the Miele bags, but the e1 is closer in size. The Sebo has a clip attachment for the dusting brush to go on the wand while the Miele attachments are all stored on the canister. The Sebo cords are a foot longer than the Miele. The Miele has 3 different parking spots for wand nozzles, while the Sebo has 2. The Miele has push button suction selection that can be operated by hand or foot while the Sebo has a dial selection which is only practically used by hand.

They'll throw in features like capacitive touch buttons just so that there's a complicated bit of microelectronics in there, and the thing doesn't work without that without some major hack-ery. And they skimp on filtration, so even the parts that should last essentially forever like an impeller blade, bearings, and motors - they get destroyed way faster. Meanwhile a Miele? The bag alone does a better job filtering than the whole of any Dyson or Shark. Then it goes through a pre-filter, and then a HEPA or carbon filter. The inside of my C3 is basically spotless. I could eat out of it, and I've had it for 8 years, with two dogs.

i use a steam vacuum(polti fav80) to mop my floors almost daily. U pour 0.5 litres of water, and i just mop everything with hot steam. After dry vacuuming with my miele ofc. But i dont vacuum everyday, like once in 4 days. But mopping everyday, cuz it literally takes 15 minutes to wipe the most common used surfaces. Usually it's bathrooms, doorway and kitchen. This routine significantly improved the allergy situation in our family.

Same situation, could not be convinced a Miele would be 4x+ better at 4-8x the price. Eventually got to try a c3 though and I'd concede that it sucks hard and probably filters better but the free accessories and the extra front lift roller on the model I got are a better value.

I am using Miele C3. And it's good. Pros: Good operating radius Telescopic suction arm Attachments are always handy Easy to drag/push while vacuuming I bought it a couple of months back so can't comment on suction power. However, it's a bagged vacuum so that shouldn't be a problem.

Only issue I've had with my Miele c3 is the power head disconnecting when vacuuming. I physically have to hold the wand with my left hand and handle with my right to keep steady power. I say only, it's a pain in the arse. I love the machine but that issue has been pissing me off. I actually wanted a Sebo to replace my older c3 I gave to my folks, but Miele had a sale and it was just over half the cost to get the Miele with a carpet brush as it would have to grab a Sebo.

At the handle. There is some play so if I pull the handle without supporting the wand the terminals briefly disconnect and I lose all power to the head. They are still physically locked together but I guess there's a big enough gap between the connections. I'm not sure a replacement button would help. I bought the vacuum in December and it was like that from either the start or a few vacuums later. I've just got in the habit of using both hands and continually holding the wand and handle tight together.

Miele is a premium brand for sure, but the price difference is well justified. I have C3 Complete, carpet, cats, and that thing sucks hard (the good kind of suck). Have only had it for a few years and so far so good in terms of reliability, but optimistic about it. That said, I previously had a Dyson DC-series upright - had it for 8 years with no problems. It was still alive, I just had to get rid of it because I was moving and couldn't take it with me. So I guess even on "lesser" brands you could get lucky. But through my childhood, my parents kept buying Hoovers and Dirt Devils and GEs and all kinds of "walmart specials" and I feel like we had a new vac every 2 years or so because the old one would just crap out. So I am definitely traumatized enough to consider it very frugal to be buying a more "premium" suck machine.

About a decade with our Miele C3 here, and I'm still not sure it was worth it. Sure it seems reliable, but the previous bagless Bissell lasted 10+ years too and it cost a fraction of the Miele - which *still* eats money with the requisite bag replacements. I also agree with your other comments - the canister is so godawful at maneuvering around corridors/corners, and will flip upside down if given half a chance. The cord is just slightly too short (a problem I've never had with any previous vacuum until this machine), and the plug heats up so much it feels like it's going to melt. My C3 is not the pet specific version, but its regular floorhead is a goddamn magnet for animal hair and requires multiple cleanings per use. So annoying.

That's not quite true. Look at Miele USA website -there are C3 models available in US with and without the electric brush. Electro brush (seb236) is sold separately in Europe at around 200-250 eur, on top of C3 price of around 200-250 eur (so, a total of 500,maybe 600 eur). Miele is just exceptionally expensive in USA - I'm guessing probably due to lower voltage (and thus more expensive motor required for the same wattage)?

Love my D4. I had local stores with both the D4 and Miele C3 Complete and the D4 was the easy choice. SEBO E3 is the competitor to the Miele C3 for less $ and the D4 is just outright better for the same price as the C3. If you only have access to one or the other you'll be happy no matter what, but if you have the option the SEBO will be the better buy.

Granted I live in a small apt in NYC, but I’ll basically vacuum everyday whenever I see anything on the ground. I own two Dysons and a Miele C3. I've had the Dyson Ball for about 12 years. I hated emptying the thing because of all the dust, etc, forcing me to always take it to the outside trashcan, which cut down on vacuuming in the winter and in the rain. Based on many, many recommendations I got the Miele and the powerhead jammed with pet hair within the first few minutes. "Not a problem, I'll just pull the roller and cut the hair off", I thought. The damn thing is not designed to be serviced except by a repairman. Seriously, even for hair wound up on the roller bar. After spending a couple of hours taking apart and putting it back together, I 3D printed an adapter to accommodate my Dyson tangle free turbine, which handles pet hair with practically no issues. That is a pretty good combination, to be honest, but that Dyson head is only about 4 inches wide, resulting in a lot of push/pull over the carpet. Plenty of suction from the Miele which, other than the servicing issue, I think is a good vacuum, but seriously over-priced--just like most Dysons. But after 5 years of the Miele-Dyson combo, I researched to see if the was anything new to tackle pet hair and found Dyson had improved things while Miele appears stuck. Enter the Dyson V15 Detect. I have not touched the Miele since I got the V15 a year ago. Good battery, good suction, handles pet hair way better than the old tangle-free turbine head and I can pull the roller bar, clear the wound up hair and be vacuuming again in less than 5 minutes. I still have the Miele and I should probably do a test with a clean bag and see how much of anything the V15 is missing (since the V15 will get all the pet hair). There are definite advantages to being corded and using bags, but those same things are also negatives in many circumstances. With the V15, I am less reluctant to vacuum and tackle patches of pet hair with vigor. With the Miele, I am pretty confident it is removing plenty of fine dust with the HEPA filtering and changing a bag is cleaner than emptying the V15 (which is far better than the old Dyson ball canister). I like my V15 for now. I'd love to see something better for pet hair from ANYBODY in the next 5 years, but especially from the robo-vacuum folks.

You will want a Miele c3 or sebo E3/D4 premium. Make sure if you get the Miele that it comes with an electric powerhead and the parquet twister XL. If you go for either of the SEBOs, get their parquet tool. If you must have an upright, get a sebo dart/felix (they are the same vacuum but the Felix is the “premium version”) and both of these have the convenience of a canister in the form of an upright. I can vouch for the sebo models mentioned as I own them and use them In my home- my Felix is coming up on 10yrs next month.

A got a Miele C3 full set for about 90$ used. The previous owner replaced the filters and sold it with a clean bag. This retails for about 300$ in my area. All I can say is: **This bad boy sucks!** It got good suction, I'd say a pleasant smooth noise (different from any other vacuum I had). I risked getting it used because of their reputation of being reliable. Sure, it's beat up on the aesthetics side (scratches, some paint chips, the brushes are maybe 70% ok, etc.) but functionality wise it's perfect.

Coincidentally I did a lot of vacuum research recently. Here's a few things I learned. 1. Get a bagged vacuum. The convenience of bagless is a lie. The dirt ends up building up on the inside of the vacuum causing it to not work as well and for more of the dirt to be blown back into the air. Most people dont know that you should also replace the filter yearly which costs about the same as a box of bags for the year. And with bagged, you dont to worry about cleaning the vacuum so often or as thorough cause the dirt is in the bag. 2. Vacuums advertised as per vacuums are the same vacuum in a different colour and marked up. It's marketing. As long as it comes with a brush roller that is easy enough to detangle and clean out, you're good. 3. Cordless are really only good for quick jobs. When doing a good proper vacuum you want something that isn't gonna die on you halfway through especially on carpet that you gotta go over a few times because of the lovable floofs. A good pick is one with a long ass cord and is retractable with a push of a button. My commendation would be to get a Miele. There's a good deal at Costco for the Miele complete. As soon as I got ours and tried it, I laughed at our stupid stinky Dyson stick.

We have a Miele complete 3 which is great but a bit cumbersome for daily use. We recently got a shark stick vacuum during Black Friday and the amount it gets off the tile is insane. This is over the course of 20 years. I cannot believe how good this vacuum works. It is by far the most powerful vacuum i ever used. When shopping for a vacuum always check the watts higher watts has better suction. The Miele is like 1200 watts vs a shark bagless that may only be like 5-600 watts. Why? I use a C3 as my garage vacuum(because there's no reason to bring it inside), there's nothing to write home about. Use a V15 with fluffy optic for the house and there's no reason to plug the c3 in. The Miele is fucking annoying and likes to roll over. I've had the older dysons and yes they were much worse/trash, but for a V15 vs C3 there are no advantages to make me want to plug and be attached to a hose.

If you can afford it a Miele will last you forever. Ours is about 20 years old and all we do is give it a good clean once a year and it works great. My only other tip is that we don't use it for the whole house in one go. We do a couple of rooms then let it cool a bit by moving stuff in the other rooms before vacuuming. > Every part is replaceable. If you can ever get them to ship you the parts. I had a Dyson recently that I ended up just giving away via curb alert because a simple part near the roller just up and broke one day. We called, emailed, and got confirmation that we would get a replacement part via warranty...and they never sent it. We called + emailed again; still no part. After a third time we just said fuck it and got a Miele. More expensive but we can get parts for it easily if it breaks just driving to a local store.

We had a Miele and it’s quiet enough that our dog wouldn’t bother with it. It also has a multi-stage HEPA filter and the canister, although small, lasts a bit. It’s a solid vacuum. Slightly annoying to store and pretty expensive for the bags and filters, but if cost isn’t a factor, it’s good for children, pets, and maintaining a cleaner air environment.

\*this\* We had a shark that we loved and it worked fine for nearly 10 years. Then a tiny part that turned the roller brush stopped working. Shark doesn't sell that part. So now, we can use it to vacuum hard floors or use the attachments, but can't vacuum carpets anymore. It's a perfectly good vacuum, but because they don't sell replacement parts, it's no good for us anymore. We got a Miele. It's great at what it does, but I miss the ease of an upright vacuum (compared to the awkwardness of a cannister vac).

+1 Miele and Sebo vacuums are really really fantastic. They are on a different level of ability to vacuum. But they are not nearly as convenient, and unless you really really love vacuuming, a really good vacuum that is ridiculously convenient is going to be used a lot more than an even better vacuum that is less convenient. The Dyson stick vacuums are so convenient that you end up using it more, and you therefore end up with a cleaner place and more enjoyable living experience.

My Miele was a HUGE disappointment. Scratched the hardwood floors (there is a sort of hook on the back which hits the floor when you're going under tables/beds) and the tube part (not the technical term - this is not my area of expertise) comes out if you pull too hard, which I do as I HATE vacuuming. Your hair and cats bear no role in the decision process. There are many BIFL vacuums, but buying one is a question of floor types and you mentioned carpet, but do you have any smooth floors? Sebo, Henry, Miele, Lindhaus all make BIFL level machines. They're expensive, but 20+ years of service is common with these brands. Sebo machines even come with a 10 year warranty when you get them from a dealer. Can't go wrong with anything from these brands. Go to a brick and mortar vacuum store and avoid big box store brands like Shark and Dyson.

The Miele you have is not intended for carpet so don't go with that. And it makes zero sense to replace a garbage cordless Shark with a garbage corded Shark. Take a look at the Simplicity S20EZM. It doesn't have a brush roll shut off but it does have manual height adjustment and HEPA filtration. If you have a Sebo dealer near you then Dart is $400 until 12/3 and that is a great vacuum for carpet and bare floors.

I bought a Miele four years ago based on vac-tech recommendations and it’s been such a fantastic vacuum. We have young children who (like their parents) can sometimes be a little mischievous or naughty, or in fairness, just curious. Twice I’ve had parts break as a result of their, uh, curiosity and scientific experimentation with the vacuum. One piece was the bent section of the handle, and the other a coupling piece, but both times I was able to painlessly and easily order replacement apartments and install them myself. It’s fantastic, performs excellent, and isn’t designed with planned obsolescence in mind.

When my Airstream died for the second time after 3 years (fried electronics) I scoured Reddit and other BIFL places for a recommendation. The one brand I heard most frequently and consistently was Miele. Despite not really being in the best financial situation to be buying such an expensive new vacuum I bit the bullet, as my old Airstream had been getting daily use and I just hated using my upright shark for hard floors. I did end up getting it on sale for nearly 40% off which was a huge difference at Miele's price point. Well let me tell you that this really feels like a thousand dollar vacuum. Tons of suction, surprisingly quiet and lots of little features you never knew you were missing. Back when I bought my Airstream the shop guy told me Miele was the gold standard for professional cleaning services. Wish I'd taken his advice then and maybe I'd have saved the $300+$150 repairs. I've had it less than a year though so unfortunately I can't personally attest to how long it will last, but I chose it because it seemed the brand most reliably getting the BIFL stamp of approval.

Which, in my opinion, Dysons are. The batteries can be replaced, or modded to accept tool batteries, they do not require filters, they’re easily repairable, and they’re incredibly convenient to use, which encourages regular vacuuming, leading to a cleaner home. People talk a lot about socks here, and those don’t last five years. Dysons are solid for at least a decade. Our Meile is pushing 20, but my mom has probably spent thousands on bags, and she’s had to repair the elbow mechanism more than once. I think it’s more than appropriate to discuss quality items here, even if they won’t last two generations. If we only talked about things that lasted that long, our sub would be full of hand tools and leather goods. I think it’s pretty widely accepted here that this sub has evolved into a sub where we seek out the highest quality entries for any product category. Miele always ranks #1, but that doesn’t mean Dyson isn’t the right choice for a lot of people. Habits are for life, and Dyson vacuums make it easier to get into the habit of vacuuming.

1-2 years of use from a Dyson does not line up with my experiences. I’ve had two and they’re incredible workhorses. I grew up using nice Miele vacuums and the Dyson is way better for me since it’s easier to just whip out. Setting up a cord and lugging around the Miele body always made vacuuming my least favorite chore. With a Dyson, I find that I use it more. When tou consider that I’m keeping a cleaner place, that means that less dirt and dust will be around in my house which is good for health, and for keeping my other things nice. There are tradeoffs with owning a Dyson. Miele makes a better machine, but Dyson delivers a better experience. P.S. Dysons have filters that you need to clean to keep them working. The filter is washable and intended to be reused. Mieles require vacuum bags and replaceable air filters. Tradeoffs. Now if I were a housekeeper, you bet your ass I’d be using a Miele.

I get it. I have owned a couple of Dyson’s… one was a canister bought about 20 years ago and one was a cordless bought about 8 years ago. I kept the Canister going for 8 years but had to replace more than a few brittle plastic parts and it was held together with Epoxy at the end. The cordless battery didn’t last 6 months and I had to replace the canister assembly within 30 days. The clear plastics are simply very brittle in my anecdotal experience. Also have a Miele that was once dropped down the stairs and still works like new. It is 10 years old. I appreciate the convenience of cordless. I actually don’t see bagless as a positive. They objectively release a lot of contaminant’s into the air when emptying. Sure you can empty it outside… but having to go outside every time you use it is not convenient. With a good bagged vacuum, the bag helps filter the air and the bags last a long time. The holy grail for me would be a good bagged cordless vacuum with swappable batteries. We bought a Samsung Bespoke Jet which is pretty close to the ideal… but expensive. Bagless but has a charging base with a bag and filter in it that automatically empties the canister without any dirt getting into the air. Much more quiet than the Dyson, feels better made and includes two swappable batteries with a charger on the base for the 2nd battery.

I had an OG Dyson canister that we bought 20 years ago... and the plastics they used were super brittle then just like now. We got 10 years out of it... BUT we had to replace multiple parts and it was held together with epoxy and fiberglass patch kit tape all over. It was a mess. By comparison we have a Miele canister now that is 10 years old and is perfect.

I have a lower end Miele as my main vacuum and have had it for 10 years and it is like new... however I did supplement with a Dyson cordless for awhile and it went through a battery every year and I had to replace several broken plastic bits on the cannister.... also those make a mess when you try to empty them..... No cordless vacuums are BIFL.... HOWEVER we did get a Samsung Bespoke Jet cordless vac 2 years ago and I love that thing. Pricy for a cordless but it is way better quality than the Dyson and has a charging base that also contains a vacuum/bag that sucks the dirt out of it into a bag... so completely mess-less. It also has two batteries that can be swapped in seconds like a power tool. The second battery mounts to the dock in a second charger. It is also quieter than the Dyson and the Miele.

I've had a shark for the last 6 years around the house It has been good, not perfect. The cables sheeting has ripped where it's got caught on something. But it's light and easy to use so it's a winner really. I've also got a Miele, that bad boy is well over a decade old, I got it from the in-laws. It's become my DIY vacuum and has fought it's way through a complete house remodel and is still going strong. It's sucked up more rocks and saw dust then anyone could reasonably expect.

I will die with my Miele. We've had it for 12+ years now, and only had to do a minor repair once, which I was able to do with help from youtube. Hands down, one of the best home purchases we've ever done.

Definitely skip the Shark. The Dyson I had seemed gimmicky. It just didn’t live up to the hype. I own that exact Miele. For hard wood or laminate floors it’s great. Also for lower shag rugs and carpet. Don’t have any high shag carpet in my home, so I can’t comment on it’s performance there.

I had a Dyson before we got our Miele. I bought the vactec hype and got the Miele a few years ago and did a head to head test. The Miele picked up so much dirt the Dyson has missed. It was pretty shocking.

It's honestly the best vacuum I have ever had and it's not even close. It wasn't cheap but neither are Dyson's and they're garbage from what I've experienced. I think I was 400ish give or take and I live in CanadaThe "powered" head on mine spins the head by the air flowing through the head so if you get something stuck it doesn't burn out a motor. It's honestly the best design I could think of. Theres a dial on the head to let more or less air through. The only complaint I have is that it works too good and everytime I use it I have to take scissors and cut the hair that's caught around the head in the brushes but it's not the vacuums fault I have a fucking hobby farm on a carpet sooo. The other head without the spinner is fucking ridiculously strong. I cannot vacuum a rug with it because it sucks so hard. I have to hold one side down with my foot and pull away and it's still hard haha. I usually go over the carpet a few times with the regular suction head then throw the old turbo head on 🏍️ You won't regret it

Dyson stick vacuum cleaners are the easiest to use and the best design for domestic use  IMO.   I had a miele in the past, and dragging around a cleaner on little wheels and replacing bags is terrible: I don't care how long they last.

Sebo and Miele are BIFL. Dyson is not BIFL. If you buy a Sebo, the manual comes with an exploded parts diagram where you can buy each and every part. Dyson does not have this because when something breaks, they want you to buy a new vacuum. Same goes for Shark, Bissell and other bagless garbage that people keep recommending.

I have a Miele and a top of the line Shark vacuum. The Miele works excellent, is sturdy and gets the job done. The Sharks is very versatile and has 10/10 suction and a rolling agitator that picks up very well. We’ve had our shark for over 6 years now and still works great. The shark also has LED lights and a detachable wand that makes cleaning small spaces and cars very easy. Both are great, but I would think the Miele is a little more sturdy and will last a lifetime. The Shark maybe a good ten years.

It's very lightweight and extremely powerful for its size with good run time. We live in a large old house with 3 kids and a pet. I have a 15 year old Miele which is fantastic, but I'll be damned if I'm going to drag that thing up and down three floors regularly. Our Dyson V6 is 8+ years old and still going strong. It does 90% of the vacuuming because it can be easily picked up to spot clean a specific area and does a good job of it. Yes, it requires a bit more maintenance (cleaning) than the Miele, but it also doesn't require bags that are several dollars each, and again, most importantly, makes vacuuming a LOT easier.

The comment regarding the handle creaky sounds and audible air leak... I have found the audible air leak in multiple Miele canisters (over the years) AND Sebo. I don't think this is a change from previous models I've used. It just seems to be a reality that they don't see as a significant concern (ie. likely to not affect performance in a meaningful way, but preventing it would probably require fittings that would likely add cost, decrease dependability, and in the very least, wear down with not much use to the point that they ultimately start leaking). I really don't think it likely makes a noteworthy difference and they know the benefit:cost situation. As for the creaky handle -with even slight "give" in it, I have definitely noted it, but again, I believe it is one of those, "it doesn't actually affect anything in a meaningful way, but it does allow for the fit and connections as intended" situations. I could be wrong, but if it were an issue, I think warranty costs alone would discourage them from continuing with the practice. BUT, again, there is no doubt, that it is a very real thing. I haven't had an issue with the swivel of the ET-1 but prefer how light and maneuverable it feels to me. The low profile is also much better than \*most\* of the high end power heads I've used. Thank you for the review and thoughts. It is nice to hear about experiences!

Yup, I have that one, too. Love it. Bought over a decade ago with airline miles and credit card. Still going strong. My vacuum previous to Miele was a Dyson Animal. It stopped working after the warranty expired (5yrs?) and I didn't like the dust going poof every time I had to empty the cannister.

I have a CXT vacuum at home. I originally bought it as a way to trick my toddler into helping me clean, but I've found that it's great as a quick, convenient cleaning tool. However, it doesn't really suffice on its own. I keep a Miele canister for serious cleaning jobs and have robot vacuuming running daily as well. I also have mostly hardwood flooring and low pile rugs - heavier carpeting would also not be good for the Makita. It has its place in the right ecosystem.

I have two vacuums that I love. I have my old, original Dyson animal. It’s 20 years old and it’s still working. I also have a Miele canister vac and it’s the best. It’s not bagless, so you’ll have to buy bags for it, but it’s a great vac. I also use a roomba every once in a while. I used to run it downstairs at night, but it had problems when it came to the throw rugs I used to have down for my sweet old man when he was still with us.

Bagless is trash! I’ve had all the popular name brands. They all end up reeking and blowing dust. Just about any high end bagged vacuum will kick a bagless’s butt. If it takes a paper bag, it’s not high end. Look for heavy (expensive) cloth type bags. You’ll never go back. I personally love my Miele canister vac. It’s about 13 years old now, and still running just like when it was new. It doesn’t blow dust everywhere, is easy to swap the bag. And doesn’t require any extra cleaning or maintenance. Just keep the bag replaced as necessary, and replace the HEPA filter once a year. It’s not cheap, but you gotta pay to play when you want nice things. But honestly even with the high premium price of the vacuum and its bags/filters. I still think it’s more economical than replacing a bagless POS every two to three years.

I don’t think I’d ever buy another Dyson, and I’ve used plug-in upright, and the handheld V6. Bagless vacuums require a lot of maintenance to keep everything shipshape. My Miele canister is god-tier perfect. Expensive, though.

I don't know about Miele. Our Miele canister is 10 years old and the wand broke. Took it to the vacuum store and it's $200CAD to replace. As I was considering ordering the replacement I mentioned the power cuts in and out on the brush head and was told it's a common failure that requires a new hose. $200CAD to replace the hose. The head has been squealing as well and that's $180CAD. So to replace just the parts costs $580CAD to attach to my 10 year old canister or I can buy a new Miele C1 for $399 or a C3 for $699. I'm looking into SEBO as Miele was not what I expected.
