^This. We had a Dyson Animal and were continually having to take it apart and cut fur from the roller. Haven’t had to do nearly as much with the Miele.

I agree with SiXX5150, for majority carpet you'll need a vacuum with a powered brushroll so that it can properly clean the carpet. None of the Mieles on sale have a carpet powerhead, the Mieles with a carpet powerhead are the [Miele Classic C1 Cat & Dog](https://www.mieleusa.com/product/10639470/canister-vacuum-cleaners-classic-c1-cat-and-dog-powerline-sbbn0-lotus-white) $789 and the [Miele C3 Kona](https://www.mieleusa.com/product/10014580/canister-vacuum-cleaners-complete-c3-kona-powerline-sgfe0-obsidian-black) $1159. The C1 has a shorter cord and a tool clip, the C3 has a slightly longer cord and a tool storage compartment. Both have the same carpet powerhead. Other options are the [Sebo K3](https://classicvac.com/sebo-airbelt-k3-premium-white/) $849 and the [Sebo E3](https://classicvac.com/sebo-airbelt-e3-premium-arctic-white/) $1049. I really prefer the easier maintenance and longer 10-year warranty from Sebo over the Miele C1 and C3. The K3 is the older model so it's a little cheaper, it has an offset hose, a 2-step upholstery tool, a bottom bag door, and a tug to rewind cord. The E3 has a center mounted hose, easier upholstery tool, top bag door, and a cord rewind button. Another option if you want a very lightweight vacuum is the [Karcher Ranger](https://www.kaercher.com/us/commercial/vacuum-cleaners/upright/ranger-10129000.html) $199. This is a lightweight upright vacuum similar to an Oreck. The Ranger has carpet height adjustment however it has no hose or tools and an awkward side mounted power button. It's not quiet like the Miele and Sebo canisters because of the direct/dirty fan design.

Whoops, I thought you already bought it. I'm glad you didn't, the bagless Mieles are messy vacuums. The Miele C1 Cat & Dog comes with a carpet powerhead and it is the best model to look for. Any time you can get the carpet powerhead it will clean carpets better. The C3 Kona and C3 Cat & Dog also come with the carpet powerhead and if you luck out and find them for a low price. The C3 is more expensive because it has a longer cord and a tool compartment, but they have the same cleaning power as the C1. If you just have a little low pile carpet you might be able to get by with a turbo brush. In that case any bagged C1, C2, or C3 Miele can use a turbo brush. I'd say look for the C1 Cat & Dog first, the C1 Turbo and C1 Pure Suction as second choices. Miele's turbo brush is $150 and it's worth it over the generic tools because Miele's turbo brush keeps spinning much better than the generic copies. The Miele C1 Pure Suction is $400 new, so ideally you want to find a used C1 Pure Suction $100-150. The Miele C1 Turbo is $500, so around $150-200 is fair. Used prices should be half or less than a new vacuum because you'll need to buy new bags and filters and it comes with no warranty. Another option is the Powr-Flite Newton with Turbo Brush $171. This is a copy-cat of the Henry vacuums. It has strong suction but it's quiet. The Turbo Brush is made by the same German company that makes the turbo brushes for Miele. The Newton uses large hepa bags and has a long 35 ft. cord. Downsides are there's no automatic cord rewinder and the 2 included small tools are cheap.

There are a handful of vacuums that can clean the Mohawk SmartStrand Silk “soft carpet.” 1. Kirby (with the optional delicate brush roll I presume) 2. Miele C3 with the SEB228; used to be a SoftCarpet model but it wasn’t much different from the other C3s. 3. Sebo vacs with the ET-1 nozzle (adjustable suction, manual carpet height adjustment) with the delicate brush roll 4. Kenmore Elite canister 5. Rainbow SRX with v1.0 and v1.2 power nozzle + soft brush roll 6. SoniClean - I think those are the vacs that have a vibrating pad instead of a revolving brush roll There are more, but these are a few of them. Adjustable carpet height paired with adjustable suction are must have features for those types of carpet, but I like them for any type of carpet.

I see the appeal of a stick. I have a V15. It’s about 3 yrs old. It’s primary role is for in-between cleans, small messes. Touch-ups. But, if I am going to vac our main living areas or the entire house, I can get the job done a lot faster with my Miele. If I am going to deep clean the carpet, I don’t pre-vac with my V15. I use my Kirby. If I am going to detail a vehicle, Miele. If I am going to use attachments for deep cleaning, Miele.

I am much more of an upright kind of guy simply because I get frustrated - very quickly - with the extra effort inherently involved with canisters, but I still use a Miele C3 as a daily machine specifically because it is the vacuum that requires the littlest effort to use and frustrates me the least. The C3’s electric hose is exclusive to it, and it doesn’t get tangled. It might be worth looking into if you value ease of use. They are a pleasure to use. I bought one for its foot levers (no bending over required), sealedH13 HEPA, power nozzle, and its quietness. They weren’t as expensive back then, but I’d buy it again. They aren’t perfect but I don’t know if a vacuum that is perfect. Aerus canisters are overall good machines but the entry level and mid level models are not sealed systems, and I don’t think the entry-level version has an exhaust filter at all. I could be wrong. I also like having adjustable carpet height, and foot levers. Some Miele C3 models had issues with an electrical connector but it was a manufacturing error. I think the Sebo canisters are capable of last even longer than the C3, but again like foot levers and value ease-of-use.

Well I’m only basing the 110” on my Miele because out of all the vacs I’ve used to detail cars with, it has been the best. It’s listed to have 111” of waterlift, and it has a strong pull when detailing vehicles with it. I’ve used machines that I thought had higher cfm, but didn’t perform as well. Maybe my assumption isn’t correct. Maybe they had less CFM at the hose than the Miele but I would think it would be higher. The Kirby Avalir, for example, I would think has more airflow at the hose than my Miele but it really doesn’t do very well in detail jobs. I have only found 2 vacuums with higher suction figures than my Miele C3 > the Aerus Guardian Platinum and the blue Perfect C105. They weren’t significantly higher in suction but it’s something I noted.

Sebo has incredible customer service in my experience. Lenny, the corporate technician, had me ship him my Sebo X4 directly to him. He covered shipping, parts, and labor - even knowing I bought it on eBay. Granted the eBay seller was a retiring Sebo dealer who had one X4 left, in stock. Most companies would automatically disqualify it because it wasn’t purchased directly from the dealer itself. I told Lenny this, and he said as long as I could verify it was coming from the original dealer who purchased it from Sebo, that he would honor the warranty. He fixed it. $0 out of pocket except for the time, energy, gas, masking tape, etc I used packing it and taking it to the UPS store. Lenny had sent me a shipping label. I also appreciated that when I called, I spoke to someone I could hear (good reception), understand (linguistically), and made the experience very personal - not the typical over seas call center experience common in today’s world. It was impressive. I still prefer my Miele C3 as far as canister vacs are concerned, but Miele’s customer service line is hit and miss.

My mother bought 2 Miele C3 Cat and Dog vacs. They've been shit. Get dirty and hot very easily, lose suction, hard to clean. I'm surprised they get such a good rap. I got a shark strator XL or whatever it's called and it's been wonderful. So many little design choices to make it easy to pull apart and clean or get to tight spots or even just manage the cable as you're moving around the house. It even has different power settings and lights to indicate faults if you suck something up you shouldn't have. I heard they weren't great AFTER i bought one but it's been a joy to use copared to the just as expensive Miele that looks and performs like it was designed 20 years ago and not in a bulletproof way.

Re: upright vs canister. I can’t say much more than old man has already said. But imo your best option is to find a local Miele/Sebo dealer and take a dart/felix/k3 and a Miele C1 cat and dog for a test drive to see if *you* prefer an upright or a canister. there is no right answer, it’s purely personal preference. For me, I prefer a canister. (Miele C3) It’s lights out on hard flooring vs an upright (sans Felix) IMO. But admittedly there is a learning curve for carpet because the motor doesn’t glide along as easy. What helped me get used to the canister was vacuuming *IN* to the room. Rather than backing out of it like so many do with an upright. I’m a total convert to canisters now, they’re very light in the hand, maneuverable and easy for above floor cleaning. The Felix is a good in-between. It has a hard floor attachment but is still an upright form factor.

Pros: Filtration: my allergies are basically gone after switching from bagless. This was worth the price of admission alone. Lifespan: My C3 is almost a decade old and performs as it did on day 1 with only 1 (common) issue with the wand collapsing. I was burning through vacuums every 2 years and wasting a ton of money (and resources tbh) on vacuums. So this was a big selling point for me. Maneuverability: a canister form factor is way more versatile IMO than an upright. The wand makes it easy to get in to nooks and crannies that an upright just can’t. Not to mention the above floor cleaning ability. I’d also check out a Sebo k3 or e3. They’re every bit as good (arguably better) than a Miele and have a much longer warranty. Cons: Cost. That’s it. But if you buy a $1k vacuum and it lasts 20+ years, is it really *that* expensive? (Only buy genuine bags if you want it to last that long - don’t cheap out and get 3rd party bags)

What pile is the carpet? As long as it’s not shag You could do a Miele C1 pure suction with the accessory turbo hand tool for the stairs. The Miele is light enough where you can carry the motor in one hand and the wand in the other hand. I do it all the time with my C3.

Sebo Felix or E3! Sebo has a 10yr warranty if you buy from an authorized dealer. See if you have one locally and take those for a test drive. Miele is a great option too but frankly they neuter their lineup in Canada for some reason. I’d only recommend the C3 Cat and Dog or Complete C3 power plus

None. That Miele is great but only for hard flooring. The shark and Dyson are junk. If you can stretch to ~$400 a Sebo dart is excellent and on sale until Tuesday I believe at your local Sebo dealer. If not, Kenmore 600 series pop and go

Definitely don’t buy a $75 cordless vacuum. It will be in the trash before the New Year then you’ll be looking to replace it, wasting even more money. If you can stretch slightly (a bit). Keep an eye out for Black Friday sales for a Hoover Complete performance or Kenmore intuition. Agreed with Performance reviews - used is a great option for that budget. A used Miele, Sebo, Oreck or Sanitare

IMO ditch your cordless requirement at least for your primary vacuum. If you want something that is long lasting, doesn’t clog and is good will allergies you’ll definitely need something corded and bagged. Cordless and bagless vacuums are a sad joke masquerading as a vacuum. Grab a Sebo k3 or Miele C3 Cat and Dog for your main weekly deep clean vacuum. Then grab a cordless stick for quick daily messes. (Bissell airram or lg a9) The Miele and Sebo have an expected life of ~20 years. So imo it’s worth the price of admission. You could also look at a Kenmore 600 series pop and go + a cordless stick as well.

The old ones yes do last more than a couple years. However, New sharks are an absolute joke. Disposable. A well built machine likely won’t have any issues in the first place, but if they do it’s easily repaired. For example I’ve had my Miele C3 for almost a decade and have had 0 issues with it. It will likely last another decade or longer before I give it to my kids or family. What’s your budget and flooring like?

If you like an upright, stick with an upright. It’s really personal preference - there is no right or wrong answer. But IMO canisters do have some pros that uprights don’t. Canister pros: 1) Better suited for 50:50 or mostly hard flooring. Canisters come with a “straight suction” floor attachment that is ideal for hard flooring (no brushroll) which is what you want. A dedicated tool for the flooring you’re trying to clean. Most uprights don’t have this (sans for a Sebo Felix) uprights make use of an electric powerhead on hard flooring which isn’t ideal - even if it’s shut off and on the hard floor setting. 2) Much lighter in the hand: the motor glides along behind you, so you’re only really holding ~3-5lbs in your hand. Lighter than most cordless sticks! 3) Above floor cleaning: drapes, ceilings, trim, cabinets etc. Many uprights have hoses etc. but it’s just not the same 4) IMO more maneuverable under furniture, in tight corners and in stairs Cons: 1) Learning curve: to some people, it can feel like it’s a “ball and chain” and they trip over the hose and motor. IMO this can be mitigated if you learn to vacuum *in* to rooms rather than backing out of them like a lot of us do with uprights Personally I was an upright fan until I got my Miele C3, it took a few uses. But now I can’t go back to an upright. They feel so heavy and bulky in comparison (IMO, YMMV). Do you have a local vacuum store that sells Miele or Sebo? Stop in and take a Sebo dart, Felix, k3 or e3. Or a Miele C1 cat and dog, C3 Excellence or C3 cat and dog for a test drive to see which you prefer.

It’s difficult because we’ve been programmed with marketing dollars that a “vacuum” = cordless stick. Which is not the case! If you want something decent, you’ll need something *corded and bagged*. Miele Classic C1, Complete C3, Sebo k1, Henry Xtra. These are all very light in the hand (lighter than a stick) since the motor glides along behind you. Also - All of the brands above also sell an additional turbo brush meant for pet hair on furniture, I’d look at that accessory too!

Sharks are GENERALLY unfixable. I don't think they're necessarily THE WORST for the money, but theyre certainly not made tp last. I happen tp have a corded Shark Rocket at my office. Its fantastic. It's also made by a contract manufacturer for Shark and as a result, was a pain in the ass when I bought it and needed it fixed under warranty. Shark ended up sending me a new vacuum instead of fixing what I sent them. Meanwhile... my Miele C3 Cat and Dog has been a workhorse for the last 8 years. I've had it serviced once. If I need a major repair, almost all vacuum places can fix it or refer me quickly to a place that can. Miele also has its own competent repair network. For me, fixability/durability is very worth paying a little extra. Buy once, cry once, you know? The Miele C3 is a HEPA vacuum with multiple filters. I have allergies. The C3 has been life-changing (less sneezing). I can't get that level of clean from Shark at home. Consumer Reports ... they're reviewing products in the current calendar/model year. Brands like Miele or Sebo or Henry... don't churn out new products quickly. They sell a couple really fantastic goods, with new models when necessary. I'm curious what their selection method for comparison was for this list.

I have a Miele C3. I bought at a STUPID good value because I bought gently used and got a TON of attachments with it from the seller. I’ve also bought several of my own attachments…. For that rug.. Miele has something called a Velvet Roller brush floor attachment. It’s technically for hard floors, but I have a similar texture sisal rug and cats. I use the Velvet roller on the rug, on a low to moderate suction. It works really well to get the fur off without beating up the rug with the brush roller. The Velvet roller is meant for hard floors, to polish while vacuuming, but it works well at a low suction on finicky carpets and rugs with unusual texture.

Yeah. I was so close to buying a Miele c3 car and dog. I get the benefits of picking those other German brands.. But the price difference, the worse user experience (tiny hallways, a cable to plug in, canister to drag around), and the need to spend 3 weeks learning wtf I was actually supposed to buy pushed me away. No doubt they'll last longer than the Dyson, but if my Dyson lasts 8 years with a new battery half way through, I'll be more than happy.

Could you do a similar comparison for mattresses, please? Just a heads-up: Reddit is an international platform, and there’s a significant difference between EU and US vacuum cleaners due to the voltage difference (220V vs 110V). Also, keep in mind that the 2013 Ecodesign regulation limits the maximum power and annual energy consumption of vacuums: 1600W and 62 kWh/year from 2014, and 900W and 43 kWh/year from 2017 onwards. I own both an older and a newer Miele Cat & Dog vacuum. The older model is noticeably more powerful, though both are similar in terms of noise.

I’d highly recommend a canister vacuum cleaner with a dedicated bare-floor nozzle - the kind that’s just a brush with no wheels. Something like a Wessel-Werk CN250 or D 330 Turn & Clean. Both Miele and SEBO offer branded versions of these. These don’t have wheels and sit on just bristles. No plastic wheels and baseplates fo break. These glide over the uneven floors beautifully and strong suction will pick the dirt up out of the crevices. If you’re dealing with fine dust, bags are the way to go. No filters to wash, no dust cups to clean out, no plumes of dust. No, the bags won’t fill up instantly or loose suction the way old paper vacuum bags did. I’d strongly recommend looking at SEBO E3, or K3; Miele C1 or C3 canister with the Miele Parquet nozzle, Numatic Henry with the bare-floor only brush. If you find a canister you like that doesn’t have a no-wheels bare floor brush, you can get aftermarket ones either online or at your local vac shop. Most canisters use either a 35mm (Miele size) fitting, or generic 1 1/4” or 32mm fitting. Check out your local vacuum shop and let them know your flooring situation. They’ll be able to get you the exact attachments you need.

I've just got a Miele cat&dog but I've got two kids and a 4 bed house. Don't rate Dyson, looked at a Henry but I read that the pipe bits come apart easily and I can't be doing with that. The Miele is simple to use and lightweight. Does need bags but on a small flat, one should last you ages.

I agree with this list. I have a V15 detect and it is what I use 95% of the time. It is just so convenient to grab it off the charger and be cleaning up a mess 1 second later. However, I bought it expecting it to last 10 years, probably with a battery replacement along the way. If I were to own only 1 vacuum, the Miele cat&dog is what I would have bought based on reviews. Call me lazy, but I bet my house would be less clean if that was my only vacuum. Dragging it out, dealing with the hose and cord, getting an extension cord or moving the car if I want to use it outside are all small but annoying barriers to quick cleans. I can take my Dyson off the charger, suck up a little spill, even step outside and empty it into the trash by the time I'd have a corded vacuum ready to go. If you live in a small house or apartment, the battery Dysons can be your only vacuum, but I think for larger homes you still want a corded machine. For what it is worth, my other vacuum is a DC24 from 2004ish, and while I didn't expect it to last all that long either, it still works good as new. I replaced the hose once about 10 years ago after I tore it. I like how modular it is so it can be taken all apart and cleaned and parts can be replaced like Legos.

A Kenmore canister would easily fall under your budget and have a lot of the ergonomic features you need, like lightweight, cord reel, foot pedals, and fingertip controls. Tbh any canister these days have foot pedals and cord rewinds. I'm a Miele fan, but sebos are a better value. If you can get the Sebo k3 from a dealer (usually for under $700) that would be your best bet. You'd use your dominant hand to maneuver the floor head while using your non dominant to pull at the hose to reposition the canister as you go. If you don't have two hands at your disposal pulling the canister and working in sections while surrounding the canister also works. Bonus points if your place is the perfect size for the canister to use only one plug centrally. These canisters tend to have less weight in hand than even stick models (other than the upright style stick models). These canisters will also last 20 years, with each bag filling up every 3-9 months depending on if you have pets and how many people you have at home. Bagless vacuums require deep cleaning and filter maintenance that will aggravate allergies with the aerosolization of fine dust. with bagged models, you simply toss and replace the bag every few months, and replace the filter every 4ish bags (which works out to 2-3 years for a smaller home/family). Sure it's a disposable, but they're made from recycled fibers already and it's a better prospect than buying a subpar machine every few years. It is also just more hygienic. And are the only option for folks with the worst allergies. Sebos work excellently and have good filtration, however Mieles, with their HEPA filter do filter slightly better and function better and more quietly, however they are more expensive. Any Miele with the parquet twister floor tool and seb217 would be right for you. I recommend buying it from a dealer as you can mix and match the floor heads. From a dealer you can get the c3 Kona with the seb217 (instead of the 228 bc it's lighter) for under $850 on sale, and there are sales. You might be able to get the c1 homecare model for cheaper, so ask about that. The cat & dog model is cheaper but you'll want the HEPA filter. Also Miele bags & filters are cheaper than sebos, even if youre using Miele HEPA with the full size machines. Sebo parts are only sold by dealers and they're very expenny. The Miele allergy pack is 8 bags and a heap filter for $55 (~retail for the Miele HEPA or Sebo filters alone). Other than that, I'd say lookout on the used marketplaces for good deals. I got my $1800 Miele for $300, so it's possible. Good luck.

Conveniently the vacuum with the highest suction is also the quietest: the Miele C3! The gala edition is available on the Miele website for $650 with an extended warranty. It's made specifically for hard floors and comes with the premium hard floor tool. The Miele C1 canister is just as strong, and only slightly louder, but much cheaper. The cheapest pure suction model is available for about $350. With a good vacuum, and taking your shoes off at the door, your home can be completely dust free in only a few weeks, and I'm talking completely! (Unless you have pets in which case 98% dust free is what you'll have to settle for 😅).

Only clean my own house, now. Let me sing the praises of my Miele C3! It’s about 7 years old. It was used daily in its early life because my dog was a heavy shedder. Also had another toy pup and 2 cats. There was a period where I was only vacuuming every other day, since my shedder had passed. 2024 was a bust health wise, so vacuuming was sporadic. When I was capable. March this year, the vacuuming was kickstarted hard due to carpet beetles. The bedrooms are dismantled, furniture moved, and vacuumed thoroughly once a week. With normal vacuuming at least every other day, sometimes daily. We have another shedder and 3 cats now. The vacuum cleaner is going strong. We do take care of filters and regular maintenance. When this one dies, I will buy another. It is one of the 3 vital appliances of keeping a clean house for me. I cringed when DH pushed going with a more expensive vacuum cleaner. The beater bar attaching to the handle sold me. Makes cleaning stairs a breeze. It’s been worth every penny!

I would look at a Miele canister/barrel style vacuum, the C3 range is my favorite, with the parquet twister hard floor brush. Possibly the best hard floor vacuum attachment I've ever used. It has openings all around to pull in debris, and the bristles gently dust the floor as you vacuum. The bristles are very soft and gentle, and it has no motorized spinning bars or hard wheels on the head to tangle with hair or possibly scrape. And it's simple to clean, just run the end of the hose across the brushes a few times to pull off any stuck lint. The barrel part of the vacuum itself has rubberized wheels which won't mar or scratch. And you should be able to find a model with an air driven turbo brush for the carpets in addition to the parquet twister head. If not, those accessories can be bought as an ad-on. Not familiar with the specific models avaliable there, but any of the (preferably bagged) models with the parquet twister and the turboteq would be an excellent combo for you.

The airstorm, while good, is no better than a miele or sebo. I wouldn't pay the premium. Mieles and sebos are also sealed to trap dust. They are also more modern in design and easier to use (they have cord rewind while the air storm does not). There's nothing really bespoke about the airstorm. Underneath the top shell, the power nozzle is the same as ones avaliable for Miele models. The hose and other tools are generic off-the-shelf supplies etc. While it would probably last you a long time and do a good job, you might resent using it. I'd strongly suggest you try one in person before choosing, and frankly I'd save money and go with a nicer to use miele/sebo.

Any of the bagged and corded Bosch/Siemens canisters will outperform that Kenmore bagless vacuum any day You just need a pure suction, corded, bagged vacuum In terms of budget, I'd go Bosch/Siemens in the middle tier, Miele C3 and Sebo E1/K1 in the upper tier If looking at cordless, you can look at the Vorwerk ones

If this is your primary vacuum, I wouldn't advise going for a cordless, bagless stick vacuum like a Dyson (although cordless sticks are good as secondary vacuums for quick pickups and touch ups Corded and bagged is best for a primary vacuum. Better airflow and suction (cordless often have the suction but not the airflow). Bags are just better for your allergies. Emptying the bagless vacuum results in a cloud of dust filled with the allergens you just sucked up A pure suction machine is sufficient, since you have hard floors with a rug or two. A turbo-brush (air driven turbine brush) would be good for cleaning the rug/carpet With your budget, you can get the best available Miele C3 (these are pure suction in Europe) with a turbo-brush option Sebo E2 Turbo, or K2 Turbo Numatic Henry CleanAir, Henry 160 Xtra Lindhaus HF6/Valzer if you happen to live in Italy 😂 The Numatics are going to be the simple reliable barebones option. Sebo the best value and built options. Miele the most refined and easily available option

I tried a Miele C3 and Sebo E3 at the store, as I recall, the canister weights were very similar. I think the Sebo powered head (ET-1) was lighter than the Miele powered head (SEB228). I saw the Kenmore 600 specs showing the weight at about 20 pounds, vs about 11.5 for the Sebo E3 canister, but I haven't seen the Kenmore in-person. I don't know if the canister itself is actually a bunch heavier, or if the Kenmore spec is maybe also including the hose, the rigid tube, and an attachment head?

My Dyson v15 does a very good job on the the hardfloors. I use it multiple times a day as I have little kids and dogs. It is fantastic to just pull it off the wall and quickly clean the floors. My Miele C3 comes out on the weekend for a deep clean, especially the carpet and furniture. If I didn't have carpet I'd probably have gotten a C1. For the charge, my house is similar size but 50/50 carpet and hardfloors and the V15 has no issue cleaning it all in a single charge. Not sure how quickly it recharges TBH since when I'm done it stays in the charger for at least several hours before I need it again.

> Consumer store brands like Shark and Dyson will not last that long And when they break, they are often non repairable. They'll throw in features like capacitive touch buttons just so that there's a complicated bit of microelectronics in there, and the thing doesn't work without that without some major hack-ery. And they skimp on filtration, so even the parts that should last essentially forever like an impeller blade, bearings, and motors - they get destroyed way faster. Meanwhile a Miele? The bag alone does a better job filtering than the whole of any Dyson or Shark. Then it goes through a pre-filter, and then a HEPA or carbon filter. The inside of my C3 is basically spotless. I could eat out of it, and I've had it for 8 years, with two dogs.

Miele is a premium brand for sure, but the price difference is well justified. I have C3 Complete, carpet, cats, and that thing sucks hard (the good kind of suck). Have only had it for a few years and so far so good in terms of reliability, but optimistic about it. That said, I previously had a Dyson DC-series upright - had it for 8 years with no problems. It was still alive, I just had to get rid of it because I was moving and couldn't take it with me. So I guess even on "lesser" brands you could get lucky. But through my childhood, my parents kept buying Hoovers and Dirt Devils and GEs and all kinds of "walmart specials" and I feel like we had a new vac every 2 years or so because the old one would just crap out. So I am definitely traumatized enough to consider it very frugal to be buying a more "premium" suck machine.

About a decade with our Miele C3 here, and I'm still not sure it was worth it. Sure it seems reliable, but the previous bagless Bissell lasted 10+ years too and it cost a fraction of the Miele - which *still* eats money with the requisite bag replacements. I also agree with your other comments - the canister is so godawful at maneuvering around corridors/corners, and will flip upside down if given half a chance. The cord is just slightly too short (a problem I've never had with any previous vacuum until this machine), and the plug heats up so much it feels like it's going to melt. My C3 is not the pet specific version, but its regular floorhead is a goddamn magnet for animal hair and requires multiple cleanings per use. So annoying.

I grew up with a DC15, which is basically just a DC14 with the first “ball” steering system It was a ripper of a vacuum, I ended up with it eventually; my family got maybe 15 years in total out of this vac? I replaced it with a new Dyson upright and I’ve never fucking hated a vacuum cleaner so much in my life! I have a Miele now

Dyson v15 detect with both fluffy and total attachments! This is what I have and really love to use. I also have a Miele C3 which is an acceptable vacuum in this group, but I really only like to use the Dyson v15. The Dyson even vacuums all the newfoundland dog hairs from sisal carpets which Miele miserably fails to do. As a bonus I like to vacuum dust and crap from sofas and tabletops and ceilings etc. which I would never do with Miele. So I recommend you go for v15. I have older Dyson models as well and cannot recommend those.

That's not quite true. Look at Miele USA website -there are C3 models available in US with and without the electric brush. Electro brush (seb236) is sold separately in Europe at around 200-250 eur, on top of C3 price of around 200-250 eur (so, a total of 500,maybe 600 eur). Miele is just exceptionally expensive in USA - I'm guessing probably due to lower voltage (and thus more expensive motor required for the same wattage)?

Love my D4. I had local stores with both the D4 and Miele C3 Complete and the D4 was the easy choice. SEBO E3 is the competitor to the Miele C3 for less $ and the D4 is just outright better for the same price as the C3. If you only have access to one or the other you'll be happy no matter what, but if you have the option the SEBO will be the better buy.

Get a stick cordless one and keep your Dyson for big jobs. I’ve the Miele C3 and while it’s good, it’s a pain to haul in and out of storage. I end up using the cordless far more. Mine mounts on the wall to charge.

I bought the C3 years ago, but I'm not so rich as to be able to splurge for the brush wand that doubled the cost. But I've wondered about it for years, does anyone have experience going from *without* to *with*? Is it worth the money? And BTW I love my Miele, but it is over-hyped and has plenty of flaws.

I bought a c3 a while back bc of all the vactech recommendations on Reddit. Last year I finally got a Dyson as a wedding gift, and my god I vacuum so much more now. Haven’t you he’d the c3 since. Granted I live in a small apt in NYC, but I’ll basically vacuum everyday whenever I see anything on the ground. Even if the c3 is much better at cleaning, it doesn’t mean much to me if it means I’ll only vacuum every other week vs once a day.

I have a Miele C3 that I bought new 18 months ago. It still works but is largely screwed. Much of the plastic on the main unit is broken and held together with tape, the collapsable tube collapses with any pressure, there's a kink in the hose, the cord retractor has topped working and I've been through 2 x $100 turbo heads. I am using it every day though, sometimes 2 or 3 times. It's got a major flaw that if you open up the dust chamber (as you would to check the bag fullness) if don't push the plastic of the bag back in the holder, it will blow dust into the motor, killing it.

I own two Dysons and a Miele C3. I've had the Dyson Ball for about 12 years. I hated emptying the thing because of all the dust, etc, forcing me to always take it to the outside trashcan, which cut down on vacuuming in the winter and in the rain. Based on many, many recommendations I got the Miele and the powerhead jammed with pet hair within the first few minutes. "Not a problem, I'll just pull the roller and cut the hair off", I thought. The damn thing is not designed to be serviced except by a repairman. Seriously, even for hair wound up on the roller bar. After spending a couple of hours taking apart and putting it back together, I 3D printed an adapter to accommodate my Dyson tangle free turbine, which handles pet hair with practically no issues. That is a pretty good combination, to be honest, but that Dyson head is only about 4 inches wide, resulting in a lot of push/pull over the carpet. Plenty of suction from the Miele which, other than the servicing issue, I think is a good vacuum, but seriously over-priced--just like most Dysons. But after 5 years of the Miele-Dyson combo, I researched to see if the was anything new to tackle pet hair and found Dyson had improved things while Miele appears stuck. Enter the Dyson V15 Detect. I have not touched the Miele since I got the V15 a year ago. Good battery, good suction, handles pet hair way better than the old tangle-free turbine head and I can pull the roller bar, clear the wound up hair and be vacuuming again in less than 5 minutes. I still have the Miele and I should probably do a test with a clean bag and see how much of anything the V15 is missing (since the V15 will get all the pet hair). There are definite advantages to being corded and using bags, but those same things are also negatives in many circumstances. With the V15, I am less reluctant to vacuum and tackle patches of pet hair with vigor. With the Miele, I am pretty confident it is removing plenty of fine dust with the HEPA filtering and changing a bag is cleaner than emptying the V15 (which is far better than the old Dyson ball canister). I like my V15 for now. I'd love to see something better for pet hair from ANYBODY in the next 5 years, but especially from the robo-vacuum folks.

I can say the Miele C1,2, and 3 bags or like $45 for the XL ones and it’s 8 bags or for you, a year supply. though you might only go through 5-6 cause they do compact the dust pretty well. And it comes with 2 pre motor filters and 2 post motor filters. So you get to change it’s primary filter every time you change bags, the pre motor filter which is what keeps the motor clean and running for a long time every 4 bags and the post motor filter which is the the last stand filter for anything that might have made it through every 4 bags. Also air flowing through a MERV 13 filter several times is the equivalent to a hepa filter cause they filter the same .3 micron particles and hepa filters 99% and MERV 13 filters 75-85%. So this would be close if not better than “hospital grade filtration.” And if you must they sell a hepa grade post motor filter as well for most models. So bagged would be great for your needs, and for an extra $45 you get a machine that will last at least twice if not up to four times as long as any baggless vacuum. I also own a Dyson stick for the past 2 years and my dad owns a Dyson animal ball for the past 15 years and they work pretty darn well. Shark might not last as long but the don’t leak dust either and is cheaper from what I’ve seen so its also is a viable option. Best of luck!!

It wasn't just this sub. So many posts on other subs and I also spoke with people who had Dysons in my country (India). Some had good experience (mostly with the older V7, V8s). Some had horrible experiences with the latest models. I then decided, if I was going to spend that kind of money, I might as well spend it on the best and the safest option, which just works. The Miele C3 in my country (India) is 2000 watts and is a beast of a machine, and I love the HEPA filter. I have completely eliminated the need for a maid.

If you really want "built to last" for that range (or a little above) go to your local reputable vacuum shop and explain your situation, what you like in a vacuum, and most likely they will have plenty of maintained or refurbished used options from good brands that all are built to last with replaceable parts. I bought my used Miele C3 from my local shop for $600 (it was over $1200 new) and they gave me the same warranty that a new one would come with, a free tuneup, extra bags and filters, and two extra floor heads! They definitely will have used vacuums lower in price as well.

Why? I use a C3 as my garage vacuum(because there's no reason to bring it inside), there's nothing to write home about. Use a V15 with fluffy optic for the house and there's no reason to plug the c3 in. The Miele is fucking annoying and likes to roll over. I've had the older dysons and yes they were much worse/trash, but for a V15 vs C3 there are no advantages to make me want to plug and be attached to a hose.

Not who you were asking but a few thoughts: The C3 is banger, and an electro model is a logical step up with your carpet situation. Strong recommend. The Sebo E3 with the electro brush is comparable and has a much easier to clean brush roll than the Miele. It just pops out without tools and you can clean it instantly. But both preform similarly. Using a flat suction brush on carpet for hair is a time suck, I’d just clean the brush once weekly. Spend 15 minutes doing that every Saturday instead of doubling your vacuuming time. You can definitely shampoo your carpets, many carpet makers recommend it. If you want your own machine, the Bissell Big Green is the best carpet shampooer hands down. It’s head and shoulders better than anything else you can buy. And it’s not gross like the $200 Bissells. I don’t know enough about professional cleaners/methods to rec them.

I’ll throw in another vote for the Miele C3, but that’s mostly because it’s what I own and it’s been fantastic. That said, there might be an even better option out there specifically for dog hair. I just know the C3 has handled my messes without clogging or choking out like my old Shark used to. (Upgraded from a Shark myself, so I feel your pain there.) If you’re still deciding, definitely [check out the big spreadsheet](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jcYjwx_fqSUOVxAn4F_UbbskkHCNPiPU48CZRgM4eAg/edit?usp=sharing) that’s pinned in a few of the vacuum threads. Erg kort snoer, veel herrie/ weinig zuigkracht, korte "zuigbuis" dus krom lopen.

I always have to change out the bag before it's full because the smell is so bad. And yes the filter is good, and I take care of my machine. It's the nature of the beast when cat hair and dander is left to sit for so long in a vac bag. Something that doesn't happen in a canister vacuum. Pros and cons. 🤷

The comment regarding the handle creaky sounds and audible air leak... I have found the audible air leak in multiple Miele canisters (over the years) AND Sebo. I don't think this is a change from previous models I've used. It just seems to be a reality that they don't see as a significant concern (ie. likely to not affect performance in a meaningful way, but preventing it would probably require fittings that would likely add cost, decrease dependability, and in the very least, wear down with not much use to the point that they ultimately start leaking). I really don't think it likely makes a noteworthy difference and they know the benefit:cost situation. As for the creaky handle -with even slight "give" in it, I have definitely noted it, but again, I believe it is one of those, "it doesn't actually affect anything in a meaningful way, but it does allow for the fit and connections as intended" situations. I could be wrong, but if it were an issue, I think warranty costs alone would discourage them from continuing with the practice. BUT, again, there is no doubt, that it is a very real thing. I haven't had an issue with the swivel of the ET-1 but prefer how light and maneuverable it feels to me. The low profile is also much better than \*most\* of the high end power heads I've used. Thank you for the review and thoughts. It is nice to hear about experiences!

Well,I did it. I walked into a vacuum cleaner store and repair shop just to see this Sebo upright people refer to. I had already ordered a Kenmore BU4050 based on reviews although I have never seen one. I've been through every vacuum type imaginable in the last - ahem - 40 years. Starting with Electrolux canister on glider rails, a family hand-me-down. Dirt Devil tiny little canister. Hoover upright, Sanitaire commercial upright, Miele stick vac with removable handheld dustbuster thing, Miele canister. Had a Dyson V5 for when the canister was too heavy to pull out. Shark Navigator Pet upright - nimble, easy to use, went under bed - I liked it for a long time but slider for floor type change got stuck and it all those plastic parts got a little rickety. I learned: While cordless is quick and easy, it's also weak suction. Sanitair upright cleaned well on carpet but no accessories. Dysons are pretty colored plastic but all marketing, hurts my wrist, went through 2 batteries, just top heavy, and poor suction. Miele corded stick vacuum had very strong suction but was too heavy and center of mass is midway up so awkward unless you are very strong and was not self standing. Miele canister is great but all those accessories take up a lot of space and I'm over moving canisters around and banging the wall. Bagless was good as a novelty but so messy - the vacuum itself attracted dust and emptying always led to some dust on me. So I wanted a bagged, corded, self-standing, upright that had a low center of gravity, was nimble, no too heavy, and could go under the bed. Even though the sales guy was enthusiastic and informative but not pushy, the Sebo Felix sold itself. I bought the Sebo Felix even though I wasn't going there to buy, just see it. It does every thing I want and is much quieter. 10 year warranty, locally serviced by "Onyx" dealer \[that's what they call official dealers\], give loaner vacs if it takes more than 3 days. The store has been there 26 years, first the father and now the son owns it. They repair every brand of vacuum but only sell Sebo, Miele, and some in-the-wall systems. When I think of all the money I've spend on vacuums .... The good ones were Electrolux, Miele, Sanitaire, and for a while the Shark impressed me. Now I hope the Sebo will be my last vacuum. $700 US, price goes up $200 on September 25 due to tariffs. Twenty seven years ago we purchased a Eureka canister that broke within a year. We ended up with a Miele. That thing still runs and I use it to clean my unfinished basement twice a year. My new Miele canister lives on my first floor for hardwood and my Sebo upright in s upstairs for carpeting. The Sebo is heavy but it’s a beast that will definitely outlive me. I now have two very cheap cordless vacuums that I use like Dustbusters. I’ve never understood why people buy that Dyson crap. There are complaints everywhere. There’s a difference between a company that spends money on engineering and quality and one that spend it on advertising. Dyson spends it on advertising. I’d vote for Miele everyday.

When I bought my newest vacuum, I went to Consumer Reports. I use them for so many things! They recommended my microwave that has been working for 21 years… Anyway, I used them recently (a year or so ago) for vacuums, their top rated one was a Miele canister model. I’ve only ever used upright models, but I splurged (horrifically expensive) and I’m completely amazed. I’m addicted to vacuuming now. I will have this vacuum for the rest of my life. It's just simple physics. Internals clogs due to how they're made meaning they dinner then later break. Batteries also fail soon. But yourself a good canister vacuum they'll last for life, like the Sebo or Miele. Both made in Germany. The Sebo bags are cheap and are winning all the awards nowadays. Great machine for $500.

I have a CXT vacuum at home. I originally bought it as a way to trick my toddler into helping me clean, but I've found that it's great as a quick, convenient cleaning tool. However, it doesn't really suffice on its own. I keep a Miele canister for serious cleaning jobs and have robot vacuuming running daily as well. I also have mostly hardwood flooring and low pile rugs - heavier carpeting would also not be good for the Makita. It has its place in the right ecosystem.

I’m in the Miele camp. Mine is about 10 years old and still going strong. I’ve had to replace parts over the years but that comes with the territory. All of my clients have hard flooring and some rugs scattered throughout, so the canister works well for me. I just have the carpet attachment that runs on the suction from the vac, and it’s fine. I’m not dealing with heavy pet hair however. They also have models that feature an electric powered carpet head but those start to get very pricey. I rarely have to mess with the canister. Miele is a different kind, it’s designed much better than “normal” ones that drive me nuts. The attachments are easy to access and change out, and I can literally do ceiling to floor maintenance with them. Cobwebs in the corner? It can reach. Need to dust top of the door trim and baseboards? Easy peasy. And I’m short, only 5’3”. I do not understand how yall use an upright for whole house cleaning. Every one I’ve ever used, I had to fight the terrible little scrunched up hose they usually have, trying to drag the vac and use the hose at the same time is a nightmare. And it just doesn’t reach well. I prefer a vac over hand dusting so I will stick with what works. With the Miele I can do the lampshades, all the window trim, you name it. Good luck!

I use a Miele at someone’s house and I love it, the suction is amazing. If you want something similar for way cheaper I highly recommend the Eureka Might Mite. It’s like $100 and it has the same suction as a Miele. It’s plastic so it’s light, the two tubes together are really long so easy to reach ceilings for cobwebs and stuff. It doesn’t last as long like a Miele would but it’s freakin awesome.

I'm probably going to get down voted for this but I'd stay away from Riccar. They aren't what they used to be. SEBO and Miele are the ones that get the most love and for good reason. I prefer SEBO above all because they're 100% German made machines, they have a great ecosystem, are easy to self service and parts are readily available. They have great filtration and bags are inexpensive. As for ZeroG, I'd be skeptical of them. They are a small company and every time I look at their website they are always out of stock. They use proprietary bags that are not available anywhere but their own website. What happens if/when they go out of business? Can't get bags for them and the machine is useless. I will say they make a nice looking machine with awesome features and performance. I'd buy one second hand if I could find one but if I paid full price and couldn't get service or parts then I'd be upset.

Not sure if this would be worthwhile for you, but I decided to buy a used Miele canister so that I could try a canister in my house. I just got it the other day, so the jury is still out on if I will stay in canisters, but if you’re curious about canisters, it might not be a bad idea to buy a used one (make sure the bag compartment is clean, if dirty its no good). Then you get to try it out for as long as you want, and if you don’t like it you can sell it and get most (if not all—depending on how good of a deal you get) of your money back. I know many suggest going to a dealer to try before you buy, and while that would help, in my case I would prefer to clean my own floors in my own home. This lets my wife try it a few times too.

I’ve always kind of wondered about that too. Consumer Reports consistently puts Kenmores way up the list while Miele and Sebo get a lot more love here. Part of it is probably how CR weights things: price-to-performance, availability in big box stores, and maybe even the way they test suction vs. long-term reliability. Kenmore also has broader distribution in the U.S., which probably gives CR more samples to work with. I can’t speak to kickbacks or partnerships, but it wouldn’t shock me if brand relationships played a role in how much attention certain models get. All I know from experience is that I went from a bagless Shark to a Miele canister, and the difference in how clean my carpets look and feel is night and day. If you prefer to look at it more objectively, there’s a really helpful [vacuum comparison spreadsheet](https://www.reddit.com/user/lacking_foyer48/comments/1lj76h3/vacuum_cleaners_compared_comprehensive_datasheet/) another Redditor put together where you can line up all the specs across brands. For me, once I saw the numbers side by side, it was pretty clear why Miele gets the reputation it does.

Miele is the best vacuum I've ever used. I first tried one at a clients home years ago. They're so powerful and effective, they're quiet, they're easy to maintain and clean. The designers/engineers thought of everything, even considering cord length in regard to average room size for the model I have. Good attachments too! Thyre pricey, but you can get them certified pre-owned in great condition. Get a bagless car and dog version if you can!

Bagless is trash! I’ve had all the popular name brands. They all end up reeking and blowing dust. Just about any high end bagged vacuum will kick a bagless’s butt. If it takes a paper bag, it’s not high end. Look for heavy (expensive) cloth type bags. You’ll never go back. I personally love my Miele canister vac. It’s about 13 years old now, and still running just like when it was new. It doesn’t blow dust everywhere, is easy to swap the bag. And doesn’t require any extra cleaning or maintenance. Just keep the bag replaced as necessary, and replace the HEPA filter once a year. It’s not cheap, but you gotta pay to play when you want nice things. But honestly even with the high premium price of the vacuum and its bags/filters. I still think it’s more economical than replacing a bagless POS every two to three years.

100% agree. They’re wonderful vacuums for personal use but from a cleaner standpoint, they don’t make sense. They’re not cleaner friendly as far as speed and efficiency. I’ve got a client that has one and I use the hardwood floor vacuum head instead of the brush roll because the carpets are low pile. The amount of times I’ve had to stop and flip the canister, the attachments drop from the hose, having to switch attachments. We don’t have that kind of time in someone’s house, unfortunately. It’s a great little vacuum and definitely an investment. I’d love to buy one for my own home but upright and bagless are better options for professional cleaners.

I love Miele vacuums. Like you, my client has one and it’s by far the best vacuum I have used. **However,** I would never purchase one to use in a client’s home. I ask that my clients provide a vacuum or I will use my company vac if they don’t have a good one. I would buy a Miele in my own home but unfortunately, it’s not very “cleaner friendly” because it’s a canister vac. There’s a lot of upkeep and maintenance you’ll have to do with a Miele vac, especially if it’s going in many different homes. It’s not the easiest to disinfect between services. I’d stick with a bagless vac for cleaning multiple homes. There are some great options that are comparable to Miele that don’t come with the price tag and the maintenance.

I get it. I have owned a couple of Dyson’s… one was a canister bought about 20 years ago and one was a cordless bought about 8 years ago. I kept the Canister going for 8 years but had to replace more than a few brittle plastic parts and it was held together with Epoxy at the end. The cordless battery didn’t last 6 months and I had to replace the canister assembly within 30 days. The clear plastics are simply very brittle in my anecdotal experience. Also have a Miele that was once dropped down the stairs and still works like new. It is 10 years old. I appreciate the convenience of cordless. I actually don’t see bagless as a positive. They objectively release a lot of contaminant’s into the air when emptying. Sure you can empty it outside… but having to go outside every time you use it is not convenient. With a good bagged vacuum, the bag helps filter the air and the bags last a long time. The holy grail for me would be a good bagged cordless vacuum with swappable batteries. We bought a Samsung Bespoke Jet which is pretty close to the ideal… but expensive. Bagless but has a charging base with a bag and filter in it that automatically empties the canister without any dirt getting into the air. Much more quiet than the Dyson, feels better made and includes two swappable batteries with a charger on the base for the 2nd battery.

By comparison we have a Miele canister now that is 10 years old and is perfect.

I have a lower end Miele as my main vacuum and have had it for 10 years and it is like new... however I did supplement with a Dyson cordless for awhile and it went through a battery every year and I had to replace several broken plastic bits on the cannister.... also those make a mess when you try to empty them..... No cordless vacuums are BIFL.... HOWEVER we did get a Samsung Bespoke Jet cordless vac 2 years ago and I love that thing. Pricy for a cordless but it is way better quality than the Dyson and has a charging base that also contains a vacuum/bag that sucks the dirt out of it into a bag... so completely mess-less. It also has two batteries that can be swapped in seconds like a power tool. The second battery mounts to the dock in a second charger. It is also quieter than the Dyson and the Miele.

I don't know about Miele. Our Miele canister is 10 years old and the wand broke. Took it to the vacuum store and it's $200CAD to replace. As I was considering ordering the replacement I mentioned the power cuts in and out on the brush head and was told it's a common failure that requires a new hose. $200CAD to replace the hose. The head has been squealing as well and that's $180CAD. So to replace just the parts costs $580CAD to attach to my 10 year old canister or I can buy a new Miele C1 for $399 or a C3 for $699. I'm looking into SEBO as Miele was not what I expected.

If you can afford it a Miele will last you forever. Ours is about 20 years old and all we do is give it a good clean once a year and it works great. My only other tip is that we don't use it for the whole house in one go. We do a couple of rooms then let it cool a bit by moving stuff in the other rooms before vacuuming. I think that is what's saved it from burning out. But it could also be nonsense. Anyone who knows better I'd love to hear from you.

A Henry should be at the top of your list, since it's affordable and manufactured in the UK.  You can use variety of parquet brushes and the horsehair ones would be great for LVP.  A miele or Sebo would be more expensive and would come with extra bells and whistles such as self retracting cords and better ergonomics, storage.  If you need to clean rugs, you can find a turbo attachment.  These options will last you 15+ years.   If you want something cordless, Dyson fluffy rollers are good for quick pickups and won't hurt the flooring.  The V8 absolute package includes a fluffy roller and goes on sale intermittently to be within your budget.  Keep in mind while it might be a space saving option and convenient, cordless stick vacuums usually last a couple of years before big problems arise, hence why the main recommendation is for bagged, plug in vacuums.

Any Miele will deal with fur, the cat dog is just a power head and their air clean filter which has carbon which helps with the animal smell. Otherwise, the C3 Kona (comes with HEPA filter instead of carbon filter) will be just fine for you. The C3 has a complete sealed system which is better than C1 if you have issues with allergies. Also, remember, you buy a Miele or Sebo…you’ll never buy a vacuum again. Any Miele is good though and most importantly, lightweight!

We had a Miele and it’s quiet enough that our dog wouldn’t bother with it. It also has a multi-stage HEPA filter and the canister, although small, lasts a bit. It’s a solid vacuum. Slightly annoying to store and pretty expensive for the bags and filters, but if cost isn’t a factor, it’s good for children, pets, and maintaining a cleaner air environment.

Seconding Miele.  It's bloody amazing, it's durable. Will last you decades.  Even my friend who is a professional cleaner says Miele is the very best. She finds Henry hoovers very basic and barely good enough in comparison to a cheapest contemporary Miele. Personally I also worked with many different vacuums too and I despise Dyson. Absolute garbage that's waaaaay too expensive for a pile of crap it is. I own Miele too. If it somehow breaks beyond reasonable repair I'll buy another one.

We have Dyson, Miele and Henry. Dyson cordless is the best for daily convenience but not so good for a deep clean and it's quite high maintenance with all the charging, emptying, filter washing, getting hair off the brushes etc. Miele is solid and the suction is bonkers but I wouldn't use it for building work etc as I want to keep it nice. Henry is the work horse for cleaning the log burner, mud, brick, sick. You can chuck anything at him but he falls over a lot.

I had a Miele vacuum for a few years when I lived in an apartment with hardwood and very low-pile carpets. We then began having a problem with dust mite bites, so I decided to switch up to what I thought was just an overhyped machine, a Dyson. I first vacuumed with the Miele then right after that with the Dyson and the Dyson picked up a TON of dust/dirt, etc. (probably mites too) that the Miele didn't get. After I tossed the Miele, we never had issues with mites again, and without changing vacuuming habits or frequency. There may be other, cheaper options than Dyson, but I wanted to throw in this comment about my experience with the Miele vacuum--not impressed.

Here to validate you. Vac people are kinda dicks. Have had a refurbished Dyson v7 for a decade. Never cleaned nor changed a filter. Still sucks up dirt. Believed the hype and bought a Miele. I hate it. Canisters are dumb. I’m not a 50’s housewife who has all day to strategize chores by floor, nor a STEM purist invested in calibrated floor heights. Get a stick that sucks and charges for $250. Flourish.

I love my Miele! I inherited a while back that was made in the mid-90s. It finally died last year and I was a bit devastated when I couldn’t find any replacement parts for a reasonable price. I bought a brand new one from the local vacuum store and I’m so happy with it. The vacuum store also gave me an additional warranty on it plus a couple other accessory nozzles. The new vacuum has the same amazing quality, plus a few more bells and whistles compared to my old one. They are expensive vacuums but they are well worth it given their effectiveness and longevity.

\*this\* We had a shark that we loved and it worked fine for nearly 10 years. Then a tiny part that turned the roller brush stopped working. Shark doesn't sell that part. So now, we can use it to vacuum hard floors or use the attachments, but can't vacuum carpets anymore. It's a perfectly good vacuum, but because they don't sell replacement parts, it's no good for us anymore. We got a Miele. It's great at what it does, but I miss the ease of an upright vacuum (compared to the awkwardness of a cannister vac).

None of them. Seriously, it has pissed me off for years. More than one Dyson, all weak/poor, just marketing hype. Panasonic. Unreliable. Miele, which I have now but is annoying and frustrating. A terrible design. Second one after the first lasted just over year. Hoover. It was many years ago, but it was weak and useless. Bosch. Worked, was reliable, but designed to slash some parts of your body when you had to take a bag out or change an overly expensive health filter (piece of foam). I just need something that works, is reliable, easy and moves around, especially on stairs.

We had a Dyson years ago. It: - Would trap a small grain of sand and put many scratches in our hardwood floors. - Was absolutely useless on carpet/rugs. - Had a battery that lasted maybe 15 minutes tops.  We still have the vacuum, sometimes I'll use it to quickly clean up some dog hair but I have maybe 30 seconds of battery life as long as I only do 5 second bursts. Our Miele we've had for around 10 years has been significantly better in every way.

I don't know if I would call Eufy an off-brand Roomba when they are a legitimate brand that generally performs better than a Roomba 😂 Regardless I agree with you. Especially with a kid on the way, the time saved with a robot vacuum will be priceless. I have tile, floorboards and low pile rugs and the robot vacuum has no problems. You can usually set it to go around the house twice if you think it needs it but I find vacuuming once a day does the job. The top brands are Eufy, Dreame and Roborock. If you want a regular vacuum you can't go wrong with a Miele. For a cordless, I would recommend the Shark Pet over a Dyson if you're dealing with a lot of hair.

I replaced the filter and battery with 3rd party materials and it’s got fantastic suction, will run for 20 mins on full and just as powerful as miele on “normal” setting. Less so then Miele on full power - but in fairness, can barely the Miele on full power plus then it “jumps” over dirt, so rarely use it.

The Miele you have is not intended for carpet so don't go with that. And it makes zero sense to replace a garbage cordless Shark with a garbage corded Shark. Take a look at the Simplicity S20EZM. It doesn't have a brush roll shut off but it does have manual height adjustment and HEPA filtration. If you have a Sebo dealer near you then Dart is $400 until 12/3 and that is a great vacuum for carpet and bare floors.

I bought a Miele four years ago based on vac-tech recommendations and it’s been such a fantastic vacuum. We have young children who (like their parents) can sometimes be a little mischievous or naughty, or in fairness, just curious. Twice I’ve had parts break as a result of their, uh, curiosity and scientific experimentation with the vacuum. One piece was the bent section of the handle, and the other a coupling piece, but both times I was able to painlessly and easily order replacement apartments and install them myself. It’s fantastic, performs excellent, and isn’t designed with planned obsolescence in mind.

Which, in my opinion, Dysons are. The batteries can be replaced, or modded to accept tool batteries, they do not require filters, they’re easily repairable, and they’re incredibly convenient to use, which encourages regular vacuuming, leading to a cleaner home. People talk a lot about socks here, and those don’t last five years. Dysons are solid for at least a decade. Our Meile is pushing 20, but my mom has probably spent thousands on bags, and she’s had to repair the elbow mechanism more than once. I think it’s more than appropriate to discuss quality items here, even if they won’t last two generations. If we only talked about things that lasted that long, our sub would be full of hand tools and leather goods. I think it’s pretty widely accepted here that this sub has evolved into a sub where we seek out the highest quality entries for any product category. Miele always ranks #1, but that doesn’t mean Dyson isn’t the right choice for a lot of people. Habits are for life, and Dyson vacuums make it easier to get into the habit of vacuuming.

1-2 years of use from a Dyson does not line up with my experiences. I’ve had two and they’re incredible workhorses. I grew up using nice Miele vacuums and the Dyson is way better for me since it’s easier to just whip out. Setting up a cord and lugging around the Miele body always made vacuuming my least favorite chore. With a Dyson, I find that I use it more. When tou consider that I’m keeping a cleaner place, that means that less dirt and dust will be around in my house which is good for health, and for keeping my other things nice. There are tradeoffs with owning a Dyson. Miele makes a better machine, but Dyson delivers a better experience. P.S. Dysons have filters that you need to clean to keep them working. The filter is washable and intended to be reused. Mieles require vacuum bags and replaceable air filters. Tradeoffs. Now if I were a housekeeper, you bet your ass I’d be using a Miele.

My Miele is the one my parents got when I was little (2-3 years old). I'm 27 and it's still a solid vacuum, only issue is that the hose connection to the body is wearing, but that's more a concern that it will break than any actual issue

I bought a Miele for $1,000 and the thing was a piece of junk. Apparently it had a known issue and I wasn’t aware of it for a year. Vacuuming was a nightmare. I tried getting it fixed it but then it broke again. I would have returned it but I’m just always so extremely exhausted from a medical issue, I just never had the energy to deal with it. I threw it away and I’ll never buy another one again.

i've had my miele for 20+ years. It has fallen down stairs, it has been whacked around corners, it has eaten cat hair and leaves and small rocks without complaint. The only time it ever broke is when my roommate used it like a shopvac when the basement flooded, which the dealer repaired in a couple days. The suction is also permanently stuck on high because i'm too lazy to take it in. Highly recommend.

I have a Miele and it’s great. Buying them can be a little confusing because there are lots of different models, heads, etc. But as long as you get one with a power head for carpets, you probably won’t be disappointed. We have very little carpet in our house so I bought the model that Costco was selling (no power head). It’s been perfect.

Sebo. It’s the new Electrolux. I went from electrolux (40 years of service, inherited from my mom) which was amazing, to a Miele (20 years of service, inherited from step mom) to a Dyson Animal. The Dyson lasted 12 years before I got sick of it. I bought a Sebo! I’m 58 and I won’t need another vacuum before I die.

When Dyson first came out, and were taking the marketshare away from all the other vacuum cleaner brands. We had a rep in from Miele.he took a Dyson & a similarly priced Miele off the floor display and proceeded to demonstrate the Miele's superiority on different surfaces, and finished off by picking up a house brick with the hose attachment, where the Dyson failed miserably. I'm still using the same model from 20 years ago.

I've been waiting for a review on this, thank you!! Yeah this machine is too cheap to pay for repairs if something goes wrong. If you absolutely have to have a budget/mid-range canister, this will do, but I think it's worth spending more for a SEBO or Miele that will last longer and perform better

Can confirm we've a decade+ old Miele one that's as good as day one. We don't use it as much though, the cordless is just so much handier. The Miele one though I used to hoover up after some building work. I swept like five times, thought I had got all the heavy stuff, used the Miele, and 90% of the way through it started making a loud whine and had gotten really hot. Bugger, I thought. I've fucked this. But I just swapped the bag, replaced the filter, waited for it to cool down, and she was back to normal again. That was 7 years ago, and she still runs.

I literally just finished vacuuming with our Miele. We have 3 kids, 2 cats and a dog and this thing is the goat. I also have one of those cordless Dysons, which are good for spot cleaning here and there, but if I run the Miele immediately after the Dyson, it still picks up dirt! They go on sale sometimes, too. I bought ours from a small local vacuum place in BC called Big Gary’s Vacuums. They were matching the sale price at Costco.

We also bought one of the pet ones. I was sceptical of using something with bags with so much pet hair, but they take longer to fill than I anticipated and the air does feel cleaner. I’m not sure what will make you love it if you don’t already. What do you feel like it’s not doing? We have both hard floors and carpet and it’s been great.

It's honestly the best vacuum I have ever had and it's not even close. It wasn't cheap but neither are Dyson's and they're garbage from what I've experienced. I think I was 400ish give or take and I live in CanadaThe "powered" head on mine spins the head by the air flowing through the head so if you get something stuck it doesn't burn out a motor. It's honestly the best design I could think of. Theres a dial on the head to let more or less air through. The only complaint I have is that it works too good and everytime I use it I have to take scissors and cut the hair that's caught around the head in the brushes but it's not the vacuums fault I have a fucking hobby farm on a carpet sooo. The other head without the spinner is fucking ridiculously strong. I cannot vacuum a rug with it because it sucks so hard. I have to hold one side down with my foot and pull away and it's still hard haha. I usually go over the carpet a few times with the regular suction head then throw the old turbo head on 🏍️ You won't regret it

Sebo and Miele are BIFL. Dyson is not BIFL. If you buy a Sebo, the manual comes with an exploded parts diagram where you can buy each and every part. Dyson does not have this because when something breaks, they want you to buy a new vacuum. Same goes for Shark, Bissell and other bagless garbage that people keep recommending.

It's very lightweight and extremely powerful for its size with good run time. We live in a large old house with 3 kids and a pet. I have a 15 year old Miele which is fantastic, but I'll be damned if I'm going to drag that thing up and down three floors regularly. Our Dyson V6 is 8+ years old and still going strong. It does 90% of the vacuuming because it can be easily picked up to spot clean a specific area and does a good job of it. Yes, it requires a bit more maintenance (cleaning) than the Miele, but it also doesn't require bags that are several dollars each, and again, most importantly, makes vacuuming a LOT easier.
