I have read everything I can, this sub and elsewhere, and learned what I can but I need help with a specific issue. First, I already have a 10-year old Miele 3c canister and it is great but very heavy and stiff, plus corded, so it's hard for me to use with my health issues -- therefore, I don't vacuum as often as I need to, which is bad for my lungs. To supplement the Miele and to make it easier to get under things and see, I want a corded. lighted stick vacuum that meets these needs: * adjusts to both hardwood and carpet floors * specifically need one where I don't have to empty out the dust collector myself OR wash out filters * has a light so I can see under beds etc * NO "odor control" -- my pulmonologist (lung doc) said that those added scents are bad for lungs * cordless isn't essential but is a strong preference * ETA: should have stated that I need HEPA filtration, but I think most vacuums have that now?? I have very serious lung disease as well as asthma, so I must avoid breathing in what I vacuumed up. I could empty it in an outside trash can wearing an N95 mask, but I'd prefer a simpler method. Also need to stay under $400 USD -- unemployed now so no way I could afford another Miele. Any suggestions appreciated.

Yes, thanks! I see it there, read the customer reviews too, just wish I could test pushing it out before buying but...... Vacuumed with my canister Miele last night and now I *really* know I want an upright that is lighter weight! Hoping for a Black Friday price in a few weeks....I could afford it now but I really want to donate to the community food bank too.

Sebo’s are originally made for commercial usage they can be used for household cleaning. Miele’s are made for household in Europe they are the Mercedes of vacuums. They have features to make them more user friendly my C3 has built in tools under a special hood, touch powersettings with symbol, tools are more refined and the machine it self is nicer to look at in case you can’t store them in a cupboard or closet! Thats why I prefer Miele when using it in my home it doesnt feel like the vacuum operates me but I am in control of vacuuming with it following behind me. And in case I have sudden visitors at the front door i’m not like get that clunky ugly machine out of the room😂😅 so it’s more user prefference at the end of the day they both get the jobs done for years to come

Yeah true but for me it feels bulky and big the way the C3 is made its more long and narrow easier to pull along

Yeah i’m european so for me a good C3 model is 250€ about 270 dollars I have a simpler model for daily vacuuming and the european version of the C3 Kona for my full house deep cleaning both together were less than 700 euro about 750 dollar

Here’s some general information from my personal experience with a number of various vacuums over the years. I’m based in Australia. Initially I had a top of the range Electrolux non-cordless, bagless vacuum, paid $650 was ok we used it for about 5 years but very heavy to pull around and had to empty it 2-3 times every time I used it as the container was small, I then bought a Dyson V10 cordless stick vac just to do quick jobs but it became our main vacuum for ease of use. The Electrolux got stored under the house. The Dyson had a motor problem at just close on two years but it was still under warranty. I called Dyson. Their service was incredible, they were like no problem will send you a whole new motor unit which is the main part of the vacuum, I’ve now had it for over 4 years and I think the battery is just about done, we still use it but not as much, will look for an aftermarket battery. As I also do property renovations so I bought a small cheap $200 corded, bagless vacuum from Bunnings, for really dirty and dusty post construction cleaning (plaster and tile dust kind of work) it actually worked really well for the price (Pirana Velocity but can’t find them around anymore), I eventually couldn’t find filter parts for it (either original or aftermarket) so it got thrown out I really liked it for the price. (A note here, I worked out this group https://hegroup.com.au/collections/brand-piranha?page=1 seem to manufacture the OEM vacuum cleaners and do the spares for lots of the different re-branded vacuums, you find around in Bunnings and other places, they seem to just slightly change plastic colours and designs you can see how many types are on their website, likely a model only gets parts supported for a short lifespan then you can’t get them anymore). Years later we pull the Electrolux vacuum out from under the house and use it to suck the air out of those vacuum seal bags that you use to compact down clothes and bedding, it kills the motor on what was a $650 vacuum, I take it to a specialist vacuum repair guy but it’s too old to fix as you cant get parts (over 10 years old now mostly spent under the house). I asked him what would he buy himself, he recommended a Miele bagged vacuum. Since at this time we also hired a cleaner (more friend of a friend as we needed to supply our own cleaning supplies) I bought a Miele C3 corded bag vacuum (and pack of 4 bags as it only comes with 1). I think the C3 model is just going end of life being replaced by their Guardian series when I got it August 2025). So to summarise my long vacuum epic. I’d buy a Dyson Cordless if I had a small house or apartment, easy to use, pretty reliable, parts easy to get and great after sales service. If you have a big house (we are now in a 5 bedroom across 2 stories and with 2 cats that shed hair) the Miele bagged vacuum is a good choice, German made (very reliable according to the repair guy who recommended it), feels like a powerful workhorse, both my wife and the cleaner also feel it’s really good, and I’m really amazed how infrequently you have to change the bags as the dust compresses in them (maybe months depending how often you vacuum), and it’s quick clean and easy to do vs bagless. There’s no fiddling with catches to open them, having to stick your hand inside to clean cat hair and dust from around the metal cylinder, or having to wash and dry filters. Hopefully someone finds this helpful.

I have one for quick messes and love it. It’s the perfect pair to my C3 (thanks to performance reviews for the tip) I believe both those models have the powered attachment point. It’s when it’s called the S194 is when you need to do your due diligence. Worst case, as for a picture of the attachment point. It’s easy to see if it’s electrified or not.

Don’t overpay for a rainbow. You can get a Sebo d4 or Miele C3 for less than half. For allergies you want something corded **and bagged**. Find a local Miele/Sebo dealer and give those a try. Which exact model depends on your flooring.

I wouldn’t seriously consider a Dyson. You’re on the right track with Miele and Sebo with your budget you’ll have plenty of options. Canister vs upright is personal preference. Since you’re undecided I’d find a local Miele/Sebo dealer and take the following for a test drive to see which you prefer. (That said, I’m a total canister convert. They’re very light in the hand and great for above floor cleaning and stairs, but there is a learning curve for sure.) Sebo dart, Felix, K3, E3 Miele C1 Cat and Dog, C3 Kona or C3 Homecare All of these will require minimal maintenance. A bag change every time it’s full (usually every 3 months or so) and motor filters once a year. That’s IT. These are nothing like bagless machines which require cleaning/messing with every other vacuum session.

Check out r/vacuumcleaners As mentioned Miele and Sebo are top brands. You can safely ignore any shark or Dyson recs. They’re garbage. As is anything bagless.

Vacuum wars is a paid shark shill and not to be trusted. Hell Chris even appeared in a shark commercial. BIFL vacuums absolutely exist. They’re corded and bagged made by brands like Miele and Sebo.

*Cordless* Vacuums are disposable. **Corded and bagged** vacuums like a Miele or Sebo will last you 2 decades or longer. Ask r/vacuumcleaners

Miele, Sebo or Lindhaus. Check out r/vacuumcleaners

This is the answer! You can still get a Miele for only hard flooring.

Agree with J3ttf! The Miele is a worthy splurge!

Miele, Sebo, Henry, Lindhaus. Shark and Dyson are garbage. Check out r/vacuumcleaners

You want to ask r/vacuumcleaners. Miele or Sebo is the correct answer. Corded and bagged. Safely ignore any shark or Dyson recs. Find a local dealer and take a few Miele’s and sebos for a test drive. Specifically the Sebo dart if it’s mostly for carpet.

The C3 is the better model, more future proofed too.

I’d say a Miele C3 Kona, though a C1 Cat Dog would be fine. As others have mentioned, watch for the seller and shipper on Amazon. You can also click on other purchase options and see who the sellers are. There are legit vacuum sales companies that use Amazon marketplace just you have to specify. Amazon will pull the lowest priced seller first (usually).

A canister is arguably the most versatile. I’d recommend a model with a power (electrical) head as you have carpet and may have carpet in the future. I lean Miele and would say a C3 Kona is a sweet spot. That said the Sebo E3 is also a solid choice, albeit it’s kind of ugly looking.

My wife and I picked up a C3 two weeks ago in Canada and the power head is not that loud. Loudest part of the vacuum yes, but not as loud as our old Dyson.

I concur. Got a C3 around a month or so ago and that thing is a horse. It wants to lift the rugs off the floor and has pulled out dust from places that haven't been cleaned in a while.

I hate both c1 and c3

It just doesn’t suck up the most obvious crumbs. Maybe it’s a European Miele thing, but allll of them suck. I have to change the bag all the time and then I still need to get down and manually feed it. It can only suck up socks

Laminate and tile. You’re also supposed to use C3 on sofas and mattresses, but it does a terrible job so I gave up

This. I have C3 for full-on big job clean when necessary and the Miele triflex stick for spot cleaning in between.
