"I like the bag. Our bagless vacuums always made a MESS cloud of dust when trying to empty them in the kitchen. I'd have to go outside, and it would still make a cloud all over me. This was easy, close the lid on the bag, lift it out, toss it in the trash, put a new one in. It holds more than I'd typically think, because unlike our bagless, the dirt all gets packed into the bag, it gets more dense. So it holds more than you would expect."

"We've neglected the hell out of it. It has 1555 hours on it with minimal maintenance. Ran it every night for 4 years or so. So I always thought these things were tanks. It still works"

"All the parts that will have tangled hair (like rollers, empty bin, rotating brushes, and wheels) are extremely easy to remove and clean, almost with no tools needed. I literally take only ten minutes to remove every dog hair inside the system."

"Been using them for about four years working out in my gym, and cycling daily (45+ minutes on a bicycle outdoors)."

"I even washed them accidentally and still worked perfectly fine afterwards."

"I still have the Kirby my grandma bought brand new in 1970."

"it's a dream/works so well. ... I am shocked (kinda disgusted at times!) at how much it picks up."

"Numatic (the ones with the faces on them) have fantastic suction power"

"it's so NICE to throw the bag of stinky (I have a golden retriever XD) dog hair into the trash and not have it funking up the whole vacuum, forever."

"The HEPA filter is easy to clean thanks to the little flicker dial thing I just pull it out hold it over the trash and go to town on that until the chunks stop coming out and when it gets too bad for that it's a washable filter."

"The C3 has a complete sealed system which is better than C1 if you have issues with allergies."

"Efficiency - because the filters are more efficient, it requires less energy to pull air through them. ... PC fans use DC motors, which use 1/10 of the energy and are much quieter than AC motors. ... They're also are engineered to be virtually silent. ... To get the same amount of air cleaning power one unit achieved with my winix 5200-2 I'd have to run it at turbo mode and it's just way too loud. Plus the corsi rose thal box built with pc fans pulled 8 watts vs the winix pulling about 60 at turbo. My electricity rates in CA are super expensive and it saves hundreds of dollars a year in energy and filter costs to go with a Corsi Rosenthal box."

"it’s barely audible on high"

"another plus for Alen is that they are insanely quiet. ... I have a 45i and 75i and they are excellent."

"horrifically expensive"

"price of replacement parts is a huge reason i recommend sebo vacuums. ... every time i have to look up a part for a miele vacuum i already know it ’s going to cost 3x-4x what it should."

"My Miele has an infuriatingly short power cord, and my house is quite small"

"The cord is quite long though."

"I’ve tried my families Miele canister when I lived with them and never got the hang of it. ... How do you manage the canister? We have a small space and based on my experience it seems like I would trip over it. Even when I tried it in a bigger place I still carried the canister around which was super annoying just to not trip on it ... The space is small enough that it has dead ends without enough space to turn around by pulling the canister. Is there a way that same concept can still be applied? We’re talking bedsides with only 1.5’ space, 4’ hallway with a litter box at the end, 5’ kitchen width with dead end."

"I'll be damned if I'm going to drag that thing up and down three floors regularly."

"Scratched the hardwood floors ... there is a sort of hook on the back which hits the floor when you're going under tables/beds"

I bought my Miele in 2004 and it's still running strong. Full disclosure: my husband broke the power head 10 years ago. I can't remember what he did except that it was a goofus move. I was really annoyed but I replaced the power head, kept the husband, and the vacuum has been running well ever since.

I went sebo (E3) over miele due to: cheaper, better warranty, cheaper parts and repair, and sebo does one thing (make vacuums)... suprised theres no sebo dealer nearby, I recommend trying to fine one even if its a drive. Think of SEBO like volkswagen, and MIELE like BMW. the variety of responses here are proof positive of TRY BEFORE BUY I tried miele, sebo uprights, sebo felix, sebo canister. disliked the felix immediately upon trying, despite my mind leaning felix during the online research phase! I'm a total convert from upright to canister (or at least sebos version of it) but you need to assess if you can handle the quirks of a canister. downsides of a canister: 1) one more thing to keep track of (I got used to it fast, I just kick it around or pull it by the hose) 2) harder to store (pending a good solution to this...) 3) heavier to take up the stairs (but easier to actually vacuum said stairs) Upsides of the canister: 1) lighter IN HAND (the weight of the vacuum is supported by the floor, not your hand, in use). 2) cord rewind (wrapping up cords after a upright vacuum session sucks, the SEBO you just unplug and step on the retract button. 3) much easier to do top to bottom detail vacuuming (fans, vents, dusting, cabinets, walls, pictures, shelves, dusting), wand/hose mode reaches many more high places and without tipping over the upright. 4) easier to maneuver the power head. yes you gotta maneuver the canister into position, but once you do you can get that powerhead into alot more difficult to reach places (under beds, couches, rugs, tables). Easier to maneuver the canister than moving furniture. I'm over cordless due to wall to wall carpet, the time limit (good for quick pickups only), and I really dislike the cleaning/washing/emptying of bagless machines (which most cordless are). The whole reason I vacuum is to GET RID of dust, dirt and nastiness... why do I wanna go touching and breathing it later... in concentrated form, bathing in a big ol dust cloud?!

The assertion that they "got rid of the pre motor filter" is just...wrong though? The S1 and M1 use the same fabric type pre motor filter that has been used in the C series. The L1 has admittedly got rid of that in favour of a mesh, but it's wrong to say they've all lost the pre motor filter. Also it's only the L1 that has the display. If you don't like/want/need it, the M1 and S1 are available. The new bags fix the issue that was there with the C series of people not seating the bag properly when closing the bag compartment. And really why would anyone want to be using generic third party bags anyway when you've invested in a premium vacuum? I bought some once for my C2 compact and they were crap compared to the official Miele bags. Not saying that Miele are beyond criticism at all, but I think it's fair to actually be reasonable with ones criticism. This having been said when my C2 dies I'll be getting a Sebo because I would like a powered head.

I have a bagged Miele cylinder as my main vacuum and a cordless bagless stick as a daily run around/quick pick up machine. There's no way the bagless stick could ever serve as my main vacuum. The Miele serves as a regular vacuum, DIY clean up machine, duster etc...has served me well for 9 years now and just keeps going and going. I cannot imagine the cordless stick I have lasting anything like as long - it's already feeling rickety and creaky after less than a year and I take good care of it. If you can afford it - Bagged corded vacuum for your main vacuum, cordless stick for a secondary run around.

Henry has always been the best hoover in my eyes and I've used many over the years. However I admit that they are cumbersome and they do deliberately throw themselves over in a tantrum, grab the corners of walls to avoid their workload and talk shit about you behind your back all while having a very smug look on their stupid red faces. That being said I would also reccomend miele. Also very good quality but much less personality.

Dyson are an utter rip off. I sympathise completely with you. Used to own one and I felt I’d have to do two rounds of the house to get it clean. Go for a Miele, they are cheaper and significantly better.

I’ve sold Miele for over 25 years. I’ve never seen that before. Why don’t you just let them give you another hose

I have a Miele canister. Love it! We have a lot of hard surfaces (hard wood and tile). I got the extra large attachment for hard floors, but honestly the normal sized one it comes with would be sufficient.

r/VacuumCleaners • It is time for a new vacuum cleaner, and now that I am almost 40 I will not be buying it from Walmart. Suggestions?! ->

Miele - with a bag, cord, etc. No complaints! We had a Shark, really didn’t like it (though we still have a Shark handvac).

Neither, I’d get a Miele. Really didn’t like our Shark, haven’t ever had a Henry.
