Miele Guard M1 Parquet. It’s part of the family. Also a big Dewalt shop vac for any house work or construction. Also part of the family.

A bagged Miele canister would be a great option. You’re right, there are a lot of options, and the main difference is what type of flooring they can clean. Canisters with powered floorheads that clean carpet well are the most expensive. Any if the following four models would work for you but I would choose the Guard M1 Parquet XL. It’s a newer design and has a good hard floor tool. Classic C1: Best if you want a proven, no-frills Miele vacuum for mixed floors at a lower price. Guard M1: Better choice if you want updated filters, easier controls, integrated tool storage, and a bit more reach and convenience. — Complete C2 Hardfloor PowerLine: Great choice if you want a traditional mid-range Miele with effective tools and don’t mind the older design. Guard M1 Parquet XL: Better for modern convenience, updated filtration, lighter weight, and especially excellent hard-floor cleaning with a wider head.

Miele Guard M1 Parquet XL will do you no wrong. The floor head nor the actual vacuum with scratch your floors.

I recently bought the Miele Guard M1 Parquet. The vacuum head is perfect for bare floors. It has bristles, but with gaps at spaced intervals so there's good air flow and it doesn't just push the dirt and hair around the floor. It comes with some standard attachments...crevice tool, small round brush head, and upholstery brush. I'm 68 and need a vacuum that's easy to maneuver. This one has wheels that smoothly spin 360 degrees, so it's very easy to pull across the floor and from side to side. The swivel wheels make it easier for me to get the canister through doorways without hitting the door frame. retractable cord. The length of the metal tube is adjustable. I bought it to replace my original Miele canister vac, which is now 23 years old and works perfectly. It's just too heavy for me. Miele also makes a Guard M1 Cat and Dog, but the included head isn't that good for smooth bare floors. BTW, Miele sells a series of identical vacuums that are named differently according to what heads are included. Buying extra attachment is expensive, of course. It has a handle that I don't care for. My husband found the M1 on Amazon for a relatively reasonable price. They normally don't go on sale, but it you call around to dedicated smaller vacuum sellers such as Mr Vac and Mrs Sew or [classicvac.com](http://classicvac.com) they may offer a discount. You can also find coupon codes on line, at least for Classic Vac. A few months ago, I bought a Eureka Canister Vac that was just awful. Hard to pull, hard to turn, and it flipped over on its back literally every time I used it. You won't regret buying a Miele, in spite of the high initial cost and expensive bags. You might have to will it to someone, because it's still going to be great many years from now.

Ok, bear with me. I highly recommend Miele vacuums. I know they are super expensive and so are any additional accessories you might want to buy. But I bought a new one in 1990 and 35 yrs later it still works perfectly. I later got a used one for the upstairs, and it’s doing great at 30yrs old. The things I value most: Filtration. The bags are sort of padded so they keep dust inside, plus the filter that looks like a block is extra effective. Quality of the attachments Long cord Best of all, the wheels swivel easily so it’s very easy to maneuver. It’s a very noticeable difference. My sister recently got a new one for herself, and nowadays the canisters are much lighter weight, much easier to carry or pull around.

Miele Guard M1 Terra red ($449 on sale) is a fantastic option. One of the most solid vacuums on the market. Edit: later on, add the SBD 380 if you want a better straight air tool :-) Edit 2: M1 is better built than the classic c1, and has more features.

Find a C2 or C3 model with the SBB 300-3 floor brush. Nothing will clean floors better than that. The newer version of the C2 is the Guard S1. The newer version of the C3 is the Guard M1. The Guard L1 is an entirely new vacuum, and is meant to be a lighter version of the C3 / M1, but the L1 has a smaller bag. Edit: they all filter really really well and are sealed systems, and if you add on the HA50 hepa filter (make sure it’s the genuine one from Miele as it’s H13 hepa) it’s top notch. Edit 2: the compact C1 is a also good choice, just NOT the Classic C1 (also known as S2 which is the older version).

The D4 moves really well, but yes is a larger vacuum. I have a 525 squr foot apartment and own a D4 cause YOLO. The Miele vacs like the C2, C3, Guard S1, M1, L1 will overall be lighter and easier to use. The D4 is essentially a powerhouse vacuum. The mentioned miele's will have the same airflow but in a smaller package. Miele's new equivalent to the D4 is the L1 or M1 / C3 Series. Edit: My recommendation would be the Miele if you're worried about the weight of the canister. The D4 is by no means bad that way, and I would 100% argue it's easier to use than some other brands like kenmore, etc, but the Miele's will be easier to use as far as the canister goes and may be more encouraging that way. Just make sure to get the RIGHT ATTACHMENTS!

If you want a stick vacuum, Miele DuoFlex. If you want an easy to use plug in: Miele Guard M1, S1, or L1 and add the SBD 380 tool if you have relatively smooth hardfloor. Sebo E1 is another excellent option!

Miele Guard L1, M1 or S1 (L1 is the best moving canister out there). All can be fitted with the HA50 H13 Hepa filter, which will make it the best filtering canister on the planet. Sebo E or D series are another fantastic option! Filtration is very similar, and they are built very well as well. The reason I've recommended options that are above $250, is because HEPA doesn't mean what it should. Lower end hepa filters just bleed dust over time, and units in that price range just aren't sealed units. They may try to claim they are.... they aren't. Some of them exhaust right on the floor, which blows the dust into the air. There is also the Miele Classic C1 series and Sebo K series. They aren't quite as good as the other models (why they are less expensive than them), but they are still much much much better than other vacuums out there.

Sebo E1 is a fanatic vacuum at its price. A Miele Guard S1, M1, or L1 with a straight air tool (SBD 380 is the best, can be added onto any Miele) would be great options that are all serviceable. The reason Sebo and Miele vacuums can go over $1000 (the ones I mentioned are well below) is because they come with electric powerheads, and they built everything properly. Edit: Sebo Felix Dart is a great upright vacuum option. Has one of the best powerheads in the world.

Miele C1 Compact, or Miele Guard S series with a straight air tool (the SBD 380 is miele's hands down best straight air tool, and can be added separately onto any model). Sebo E1 is also a great option. No, they're not the cheapest options, but if you can find one in good shape used, that's something to consider. These things will last typically 15 - 30 years under normal household use - not commercial usage.

See if any vac shops have any used Miele or Sebos with a good straight air tool (you probably don't need a powerhead, but if they have one where the price is right, it could then be an option). They are some of the most serviceable vacuums out there, which is important cause everything breaks at some point, and its nice to be able to fix it. They are also sealed units. You can add different tools later on to any of them, but powerheads can only be added to the electric hose models. Best models to look for would be: Miele Compact C1, C2, C3, or any guard series Sebo E or D series Their other models are still good, those are just the best.

Sebo K2 or Miele M1 All Foor are two excellent options for your floors. Both are durable, lightweight, bagged and quiet. Miele's newest floor attachment, the FiberTeQ all floor is impressive. Find a local dealer and test drive these and other models. Henry is not readily available in the US, but as another poster noted, it's a contender in your market.

Miele an Sebo are the premium canisters due to quality, warranty, and filtration. Of the two, Miele hoses are more flexible. I have both the Sebo E3 and D4, and both hoses are stiff and bulky due to their tapered design. I also have the Miele C3 and prefer it for dusting because Miele makes a larger, fully articulating brush (SUB 20) that works on the ceiling fans and bookshelves. For hard floor cleaning, the parquet twister is my go to, both Sebo and Meile have a version of this attachment. Based on your cleaning needs, a suction only machine will work well. Look at the Miele Classic C1 or Guard M1. Sebo comes in a close second place for portability. Look at the E1 or K2 Kombi and add the parquet twister. If you have a vacuum dealer, go there, the Black Friday discounts will be better and they will give you a package discount for any additional attachments, bags, etc.

Congratulations and look forward to your follow up review after a whole house cleaning. Miele did a poor job assessing the US market for the Guard series. We get the same handle and hose as the previous models; not the new handle with controls released in Europe. They discontinued the SEB 236 power nozzle (LED light, lower profile), and only two models with a power nozzle. None of the Cat and Dog models have a power nozzle! The new Fiber TeQ All Floor attachment looks promising though and will probably be added to my C3's arsenal of tools.

Miele rolled out their new Guard series canister vacs and all of the existing C3s are on clearance now. Find your local dealer and go visit the store. You need a powered model (entry level units are cheaper because they don't have the powerhead or electrical hose). Also look at the Sebo Felix. Awesome upright machine that handles carpet and hardwood floors, with excellent filtration.
