I have pretty serious concerns about the ability of cordless backpack vacs to effectively clean carpets. They all lack a rotating brush for agitation, have less suction due to being cordless, and the floor nozzle on the Milwaukee isn't even designed for carpet in the first place. It's made to suck up loose debris from hard floors, it's going to struggle massively on any clinging debris or ground in dust/dirt. And an air driven brush won't be adequately driven by a cordless machine. Backpack vacs make sense in a commercial setting as a fast way to cover large hard floor areas or flat pile industrial carpet. And even then most are still corded in that environment. In the home, you're a lot more likely to bump into objects with the pack than you would be cleaning a large corridor in a commercial setting, that's definitely one reason for the lack of popularity. I'd strongly recommend you look for a corded backpack at a minimum, but ideally something with a rotating brush for the carpets, which is rare for a backpack.

Check out the Milwaukee M18 backpack canister vac. Works well, you can remove the back pack part and it sits well in the car. Couple it with a buff brite 2.0 nozzle for the pet hair. Price point is higher, but a real win for making vac jobs easier. Also works great to vac the house. Good luck.

What about the M18 Fuel backpack vac? I removed the backpack panel on my test sample and use it as a hybrid between a stick vac and lunchbox style vac. [https://www.milwaukeetool.com/Products/0885-20](https://www.milwaukeetool.com/Products/0885-20)

I feel it's a step up from stick vacs, and is easier to use with more accessories than lunchbox-style vacs. I typically pair it with 10-cell batteries, e.g. 5Ah in a pinch, 8Ah when it's free, 12Ah if it's free and I want longer runtime. It's not a vac I would have ever considered buying, but I tend to use it more, even ahead of vacs I did pay for. I use it on the higher power setting except when I need to stretch a lower capacity battery. I also have a sample of the Dewalt stick vac. It's great for sawdust and similar, but I clog it a lot and have to empty and clean the filter a lot. You can't beat the ergonomics, but it's really a final cleanup type of vac.

I use a m18 fuel vacuum. Definitely not cheap if you don’t own the batteries

Milwaukee M18 Fuel vacuum. Even better if you're in a trade and already own several Milwaukee batteries/tools

I have a 18V Milwaukee one that works great but it’s more than $150 I think. I would say if you have cordless battery platform just get one as most manufacturers have them. Bonus bc I also bought a blower to match and it is great to blow up tubes and blow debris off cover and such

I’m a big fan of the Milwaukee M18 cordless vacuum The portability/modularity if you already have their batteries. Biggest difference maker is a set of attachments for the nooks and crannies.

I have a bunch of EGO tools and love em. I have the Milwaukee cordless one that’s like a little rectangular toolbox, or else I’d buy this.
