Bagged upright choices are, unfortunately, very slim in the UK these days. If you can stretch your budget by around £20 or so, the Sebo Felix is a great choice and is on offer currently. That's one of the few corded bagged uprights you can get full stop, luckily it's a good one. Good all around performance, optional swappable floor heads to suit different surfaces better (rare for an upright). Good filtration, suction, easy bag change etc. I'd definitely look at getting the optional extension hose to help with stair cleaning though as the on board hose is on the short side. If you'd rather explore cordless options, the Henry cordless is pretty good and bagged. The Miele triflex or duoflex models, while bagless, are much better made than the sharks you're used to.
Corded one would definitely be more powerful, just given the lack of options I'd throw some other choices out there. Performance wise the henry cordless is on par with sharks and probably a bit better on carpet. Also less maintainence, since replacing the bag replaces the main filter each time. It doesn't lose performance over the course of months like many others do. For shear power and longevity the sebo is definitely the better overall option.
Great under certain circumstances. Henry cordless isn't very powerful. Usable for hard floors and attachments but pretty ineffective for carpet, no motorized brushbar either. And very expensive for what it is in north america. A numatic NBV, very similar, has a vastly upgraded motor and battery. But still no rotating brush and even more expensive in north america. For these reasons, I can't really recommend them.
Just wanted to clarify those points for OP anyway. I have a Henry cordless and love it for what it is but due to the cost there's hardly anyone I'd recommend it to! Need to get an nbv at some point.
No. The dyson pencilvac has an extremely tiny dust capacity, it requires emptying every use which is fiddly because you must remove the floor nozzle to do so. It lacks a cyclone separation system, so the filter gets dirty quickly and requires cleaning especially in very dusty environments. Also, it is completely unsuitable for carpets. It is strictly for hard floors. A cordless vac might be a good addition to your home as a supplementary cleaner, but not the pencilvac. There's much better and more versatile options out there for much less money. Any miele cordless vac, the bosch unlimited 9 and 10 series, and Henry cordless are all better choices with much higher performance, the ability to clean all floors, less maintainence intensive, and more robust with better runtime.
There are several different ways you could go with this. What would you consider a "long" hose? Smaller carry-able canister type vacs like an oreck shoulder vac could work. Though they aren't hepa, and personally not a big fan of them. Small bags, small motors, bit noisy etc. Slightly bigger machines like a Miele C1 would be great, they are pretty lite but more capable. Hose might not be long enough for leaving the canister on the floor and climbing a ladder to reach high up for example. But for filtration and suction, great choice. Similar in size and characteristics would be a Sebo K or E series machine. A Numatic Henry is a personal favorite of mine for whole house dusting. The hoses are a bit longer than average, the tools are good, and the extention tubes themselves have a nice trick. Unlike most canisters where the curved extension part is the hand grip, and then you place the tools at the end of the straight tube section, with Numatic vacuums you can reverse that. You can put the curved end of the extension at the end with a tool attached while the straight section is what you grasp while cleaning. This gives you the perfect angle for ceiling fans or the tops of moldings and picture frames. Downside with a numatic is the weight and possibly bulk, they aren't very small or lite and might be a struggle to carry around. There are several options as you can see. Depends what you want to prioritize most I think. And side note, I think an extension hose can be bought separately and attached to any of these machines for extra reach if the default length isn't sufficient. Sebo themselves sell an extension hose. Numatic might as well, otherwise I know aftermarket extra long hoses are avaliable for Numatic machines. Miele you'd have to get a little more creative since they don't really sell one themselves, and they use a larger than average diameter. You can get a 35 to 32mm adapter and then attach a genetic extension hose to the miele hose. Only annoying thing is then the miele tools wouldn't fit at the end of the extension hose, so you'd almost need a duplicate attachment set.
Me too. I have a Hetty she is mainly used for quick clean ups and vacuuming the couches but I am really happy with it. Doesn’t lose suction as the bag fills. Easy to empty and no problems on hard floors at all.
Hetty, made in Somerset. I have had dysons in the passed Hetty is better and so much cheaper.
https://www.myhenry.com/henry-cordless not as compact as other solutions but in a world of sub par cordless cleaners it actually behaves like a mains powered one.
1. power isn't an issue. Wattage on the upper end cordless dysons is as much or more than some of the corded miele canister vacs sold in my country. 2. Definitely more bagged corded available than just numatic/henry. 3. Weight in the handl. I have a have a canister and there are more than a few others on the market. I also have a nice cordless upright that we love (not available in the USA, bosch Athlet). Meile makes the triflex which can be configued as an upright. 4. My henry cordless canister has the same exact filtration as my henry corded.
I just got the cordless Henry a few weeks ago and really love it!
