Reddit had a real thing for Miele because of that guy who did AMAs. I've owned Kirby, Electrolux, and Dyson, but my favorite and longest lasting vacuum has been a Panasonic canister vacuum. It's been flawless for over a decade now, plus you can buy 2 or 3 of them for the same price as some of these other guys.

I have a Panasonic canister. Neighbour has a Kenmore canister, Exact same vacuum save a few minor variances and name. They have been through a great deal as he also uses his in his garage. I had a Meile. Was not overly impressed with it.

Just don't by a stick one - useless. Get either an upright or a canister corded one - maximum real suction power. I have 2 canister corded vacuums, Kenmore and Panasonic, one for each floor level of our home. Work perfect for hardwood and carpeted.

I have a Kenmore canister and the Panasonic equivalent both for 25+ years running fine. Nothing has every broken so parts are no concern. Just replaced the filters every 10 years or when my brain reminds me :D.

i'm not sure why after using a dependable upright vacuum, you're leaning towards a robot vacuum? If you want 25+ years out of a vacuum, then the regular upright or canister is the way to go. You could just have the Hoover repaired if you can hunt down a shop and it'd be cheaper than buying a new "electronic" vacuum. Our home is 2 floors. I have a Kenmore and a Panasonic(same vacuum/different brand slapped on it) canister vacuum. The Kenmore is 36 years and the Panasonic is 25 years old. Both working without issue man handled by my two grown sons. Nothing broken, nothing cracked, just as shiny as when they first came out of the boxes. They just work.
