After so much research and feedback on here, we bought a Sebo K3 and we love it! It’s so easy to use, works incredibly well (oh and we love how much quieter it is than your typical store bought vacuums). We got it for a little over $800 after tax! If you’re going to buy online, there are some good dealer stores and you can find a coupon (I found a 10% off). We got the pastel mint color and just love it. The power head is the same as the more expensive models, but my research indicated the more expensive models didn’t really clean any better, and they had features we didn’t care to have…so we saved the money.

Gotcha, okay. A few things. 1) Cordless machines don’t have the power to clean a full house well, especially carpets and rugs. They’re really meant for quick pickups and to supplement a proper/more powerful vacuum between deeper cleanings. 2) For those thin washable type rugs, you typically want to avoid high suction and a brush roller because they get damaged easily, like it seems you’ve already experienced. So ideally you want a machine with variable suction and that lets you turn a brush roller on/off + change the floor heads depending on what you’re vacuuming. 3) I think a canister vacuum is definitely going to be less strenuous to use vs an upright. If you’re not used to that form factor though it might be worth demo’ing one before buying anything just to make sure it’s the right fit? It might take some getting used to if you’ve always used uprights and stick vacs. A Sebo K3 or a Miele C1 Cat & Dog might be the move here. Bagged canister, powerful variable suction machines that have electric power heads with brush roll on/off. You can change the floor head out so if you want use a suction only tool downstairs and the power head upstairs to really deep clean your wall to wall carpet you can do that. The Sebo has a better warranty (10yr motor/non wear parts, 7 yr labor) and they offer a soft brush roll accessory (green bristles) made for more delicate carpeting in case whenever suction only won’t do the job on those thin rugs. There’s a 25% off deal at one online dealer floating around the sub that would get those machines within budget for you. If you have local Sebo and Miele dealers they have flexibility to offer discounts below MSRP as well. If you can get a 25% off deal then you nought have a look at Sebo’s E3 canister as well as it has some useful added features over the K3, but they do clean about the same. For lower budget options there are canister models from Kenmore that have similar features to the Mieles and Sebo’s in my opinion they’re more cumbersome to use and durability/repairability isn’t nearly as good.

I have 2 Ragdoll cats (longhaired cats like yours) and I own a Sebo K3. If price is a concern, I really recommend seeing if there are any vacuum stores near you (like the kind that sell Sebo, Miele, etc) and asking if they have any lightly used/refurbished models for sale. I got my K3 in like new condition for half the price of what I would have paid for it new

I’d highly recommend a canister vacuum cleaner with a dedicated bare-floor nozzle - the kind that’s just a brush with no wheels. Something like a Wessel-Werk CN250 or D 330 Turn & Clean. Both Miele and SEBO offer branded versions of these. These don’t have wheels and sit on just bristles. No plastic wheels and baseplates fo break. These glide over the uneven floors beautifully and strong suction will pick the dirt up out of the crevices. If you’re dealing with fine dust, bags are the way to go. No filters to wash, no dust cups to clean out, no plumes of dust. No, the bags won’t fill up instantly or loose suction the way old paper vacuum bags did. I’d strongly recommend looking at SEBO E3, or K3; Miele C1 or C3 canister with the Miele Parquet nozzle, Numatic Henry with the bare-floor only brush. If you find a canister you like that doesn’t have a no-wheels bare floor brush, you can get aftermarket ones either online or at your local vac shop. Most canisters use either a 35mm (Miele size) fitting, or generic 1 1/4” or 32mm fitting. Check out your local vacuum shop and let them know your flooring situation. They’ll be able to get you the exact attachments you need.

I would not hesitate to go for SEBO E3 Premium. K3 is their budget option. The ET-1 nozzle has a removable brushroll so it’s easy to clean. There is a reason why SEBO is the world standard for commercial vacuum cleaners.

God bless you - That’s a busy household. IMO spend your budget on a good vacuum. (Sebo k3 in this instance). Then start saving for a carpet cleaner (Bissell big green) or little green if you’re looking for just a spot cleaner. In the meantime while you’re saving for a carpet cleaner. Rent one if you need a full room cleaner. Or if you need a spot cleaner, use a wet/dry vac with the spot cleaner of your choosing.

Plenty of options: Low budget: Kenmore 600 series pop and go Med/high: Miele C1 cat and dog, C3 Homecare, Sebo k3 or e3. You can safely ignore that Dyson/shark rec in the other comment. Neither are bagged and both are a joke. I have a hard time believing they even owned a Miele. Or if they did it was a hard-floor only model or something. Find a local dealer and take the above for a test drive to see which you prefer.

Definitely don’t buy a $75 cordless vacuum. It will be in the trash before the New Year then you’ll be looking to replace it, wasting even more money. If you can stretch slightly (a bit). Keep an eye out for Black Friday sales for a Hoover Complete performance or Kenmore intuition. Agreed with Performance reviews - used is a great option for that budget. A used Miele, Sebo, Oreck or Sanitare

Ugh that product selector is terrible. No the pure suction would be terrible for a house with carpeted rooms. You need a C1 cat and dog at a minimum. IMO the C3 Homecare would be ideal because the cord is longer which better suits a home your size, onboard storage is a plus. And a longer warranty. They’re only sold at dealers, so find one locally and take it for a test drive. I’d also add a Sebo k3 or e3 to your short list as well. The 10 year warranty puts Miele’s to shame and the cleaning performance is basically the same. (I say this as a Miele C3 owner myself)

C3 Calima has an air driven turbo head - it will not suffice for carpeted rooms. Definitely the C1 cat and dog or a C3 Homecare (way more $$$ but you may appreciate the longer cord, onboard tool storage and longer warranty) Honestly the best bang for your buck is a Sebo K3. It has mostly all of the benefits of the C3 Homecare (with an even longer warranty) for a few hundred less and it’s every bit as good (arguably better) than a Miele. (I say this as a Miele owner) Do you have a Miele or Sebo dealer nearby? Stop in and take all the above for a test drive.

IMO ditch your cordless requirement at least for your primary vacuum. If you want something that is long lasting, doesn’t clog and is good will allergies you’ll definitely need something corded and bagged. Cordless and bagless vacuums are a sad joke masquerading as a vacuum. Grab a Sebo k3 or Miele C3 Cat and Dog for your main weekly deep clean vacuum. Then grab a cordless stick for quick daily messes. (Bissell airram or lg a9) The Miele and Sebo have an expected life of ~20 years. So imo it’s worth the price of admission. You could also look at a Kenmore 600 series pop and go + a cordless stick as well.

I’d treat these as 2 separate issues 1) roaches 2) good quality vacuum. I’d definitely recommend not vacuuming up roaches. It won’t kill them and they will crawl out pissed off and vengeance seeking. lol 1) For the roaches, call an exterminator 2) For your vacuum. If you want a vacuum that will last 10 years or more you’ll want something corded and bagged. Two excellent options that will last longer than 10 years are a Miele C1 Cat and dog or Sebo k3. Being that you’re in NYC you probably have a Miele/Sebo dealer nearby. I’d stop in and take both for a test drive. FWIW The Sebo isn’t technically “HEPA” but it’s very, very, close. So close that I don’t think anyone would tell a difference. By the numbers it’s .07% difference. Sebo’s 10yr warranty is also stellar compared to Miele’s. (I say all this as a Miele owner too).

Does not exist. Regardless of what marketing departments try to sell us - What you’re looking for is 3 separate pieces of equipment. 1) Dry, corded and bagged primary vacuum for weekly deep clean: Miele C1 Cat and Dog, Miele C3 Homecare, Sebo K3, dart/felix, e3 2) Cordless/bagless stick for quick daily messes: LG A9 or Bissell airram 3) The gold standard for wet cleaning: A good old mop and bucket. The combo machines are a joke and will be in the trash within a year or two. Put the blinders on, ignore the marketing hype, go with what is tried and true.

A few nuggets to think about: Cordless/bagless vacuums are mostly junk today and not up to the task of whole home cleaning (regardless of what marketing departments try to tell us). They have a place as a quick daily pickup vacuum. But ideally you need a primary weekly deep clean vacuum first. (Corded and bagged) Now I know you said you don’t want bags. But think of it this way. Even the best modern cordless/bagless vacuum will last you ~3 years or so? Once it breaks or dies. The entire machine (plus battery!) goes in a landfill and you’re stuck buying a replacement. Conversely, a BIFL level corded and bagged vacuum (like Miele, Sebo, Lindhaus or Henry) can last you 20+ years. Best of all, if something breaks they’re designed to be repaired. So ask yourself this. What’s more eco friendly? 7+ entire cordless/bagless stick vacuums + their batteries in the landfill with your name on it (also think about their manufacturing in China with 0 environmental safeguards in place, the packaging, shipping etc. of them too) over the next 20 years. **OR** 1 German/Italian/UK made BIFL vacuum that uses ~4 bags a year (80 bags total) over that same 20 year span. If you’re convinced, I’d look at a canister-style vacuum. (Miele C1 cat and dog or Sebo K3) they’re VERY light in the hand because the motor rolls behind you which I think you’ll like. Imo your best bet is to find a local Miele/Sebo dealer and take the above for a test drive to see how it feels for you.

I’d caution ordering something like this from Amazon. You may run into warranty issues. Also, there have been numerous posts here of a “new” vacuum showing up broken/used. (To no fault of Sebo or Miele, Amazon’s commingled inventory system is a joke and has been taken over by bad actors.) That said, the K3 is an excellent choice and is technically on sale for ~$720 if you buy from a dealer. Maybe see if you can sell your $750 gift card and just buy the Sebo locally? Then you’ll have no issues with the 10yr warranty. I bet with prime day going on, someone will give you $700-725 cash for it?

There are a handful of vacuums that can clean the Mohawk SmartStrand Silk “soft carpet.” 1. Kirby (with the optional delicate brush roll I presume) 2. Miele C3 with the SEB228; used to be a SoftCarpet model but it wasn’t much different from the other C3s. 3. Sebo vacs with the ET-1 nozzle (adjustable suction, manual carpet height adjustment) with the delicate brush roll 4. Kenmore Elite canister 5. Rainbow SRX with v1.0 and v1.2 power nozzle + soft brush roll 6. SoniClean - I think those are the vacs that have a vibrating pad instead of a revolving brush roll There are more, but these are a few of them. Adjustable carpet height paired with adjustable suction are must have features for those types of carpet, but I like them for any type of carpet.

I gave up on Dyson after seeing damage to my less than 2 year old solid hickory wood floors. The fluffy head sits too close to the floors on the laser side. As it moves back and forth, it sometimes scrapes the beveled edges. Exchanged one V15 after that happened, thinking it was just that one that was defective. Second one ended up doing the same, and the canister seal broke after a month. Returned to Costco, never will buy another Dyson. Just bought a Sebo K3 which comes with a parquet floor brush which is gentle on hardwood floors.

Sebo K3 comes with a parquet floor brush. The standard parquet floor brush has 2 small rubber wheels on it, but they will not harm your floors. Also has an accessory available that is called Turn and Clean Parquet Brush, same design as the Miele Twister. I bought a K3 recently after discovering that the Dyson fluffy roller was scraping the finish off of my wood floors. My floors are hand scraped, and with the slight variation and texture, the fluffy was scraping on some of the tops of the beveled edges. Solid hickory floors less than 2 years old.

If you think vacuums are bad, you should go to r/bedding and ask which brand of sheets to buy. Yes, a lot of it is different criteria, expectations, budget, etc. And a lot of it is image, or the effectiveness of marketing on consumer attitudes. At least in vacuums there is some objectivity in terms of quality of engineering and production, whereas in bed sheets it's mostly personal preference and everybody thinks theirs are the best. So in vacuums there are four big brands: Dyson, Shark, Miele, and Sebo. The first two probably spend more on advertising per unit sold than it costs to make the damn things. They break, the parts are hard to get, you buy a new one. And consumers tend to develop brand loyalty, so you might go through half a dozen before you realize it's costing you almost as much as owning a car. The second two are German engineered and produced, and designed for performance, durability, and repairability. They are high quality and the price reflects that. There are some differences between the two, but it seems like splitting hairs. I decided on Sebo. I bought a Sebo K3 a few months ago after a lifetime of having never had any satisfaction whatsoever with a damn vacuum cleaner. I went through a bunch of $50-100 machines in my life and finally decided to buy my last vacuum. I think I made a good choice for my use case. What I like about the Sebo is that power-brush head and the handle control. This thing has such good suction that I run it at half power most of the time, and only turn it up to full power for more challenging places. I actually enjoy vacuuming now. Wikipedia has a good article on Sebo if you're interested in going deeper. \*you don't need to pay full retail. If you go to a local dealer they'll try to make you think it's under strict price control. There are dealers that discount, so do some digging. I got a deep discount on mine, free shipping, and even avoided sales tax.

I’ve noticed that there are a lot of Kirby vacuums on FB marketplace for like $75. They are heavy duty industrial strength vacuums that will last for decades, at the cost of being bulkier and not pretty. If I was on a constrained budget I go for one. That being said, I recently bought a Sebo K3 for a third off list (actually more considering tax) thanks to information on this sub. I did not imagine spending so much, but after digging into the reviews and advice in the sub, I decided it was worth it at the discounted price. My last one. Good luck.

Yes!!! The E3 is in my list of must have models. I helped my in laws get a lightly used cherry colored k3 but the hose location on it is weird. I could also stand to trade in my plain vanilla black Felix for either the red or the once available “fun color” as what I believe sebo called it. It was cherry and orange colored.

Personally I just got myself the SEBO K3 and let me tell you that thing is a beast. I can’t believe how good the power head is on carpet. It just glides and pushes itself. It’s such a far cry from what I’m used to honestly. I think it would be perfect for your situation. I got mine for $599. Free shipping and with a 10 year warranty. It was an open box unit but it’s clean. The 10 year warranty made me bite the bullet in that unit because like you I just want something I know isn’t going to crap out DM me if you want the details on the deal I got btw. Usually it’s like $849 new I think

Several good choices in your budget. SEBO Felix if you prefer an upright. If a canister is more what you are looking for the SEBO K3 is a right at the top of your budget, but it's SEBO's least expensive canister option that fits your needs. The Miele C1 Cat and Dog is another great canister that fits in your budget.

Canisters aren’t better than uprights necessarily, but they tend to be more versatile with hard and mixed flooring. Most uprights have a cleaning head fixed to the machine that can’t be changed to match the flooring you are cleaning. A head with a spinning brush roll isn’t as effective as a head that has a no obstructions (like a brush roll) and a straight air path for hard floors. a cleaning head with a spinning brush roll to agitate is needed for carpets and rugs. On a canister you can change between these two types of cleaning heads to get the most effective cleaning possible. Canisters also leave the bulky pieces of the vacuum behind you, giving you a more nimble lightweight wand and hose to reach into nooks and crannies a bulky upright couldn’t like under beds and furniture or around tight corners. The ELI5 version: Imagine your vacuum has a special “foot” for different floors. Some “feet” have a spinning brush that’s great for carpets, digging out dirt. But that same brush just scatters dirt around on hard floors when it’s spinning or gets in the way when it’s not. Canister vacuums let you change “feet” easily, so you always have the right one. Upright vacuums usually only have the carpet “foot”. Also, canisters are like pulling a little wagon, the heavy part stays behind, so it’s easier to move the hose and get into tight spots. While SEBO and Miele are talked about a ton here, they are premium machines that don’t land in the budget of many people, I say this as a SEBO owner. They’re long lasting and very effective cleaners (buy once cry once). You can absolutely get effective cleaning from a less expensive machine. Your home and needs sounds like the Kenmore 600 series would work really well. It comes with a powered hand tool called the pet powermate that is amazing for furniture and stairs.

We just bought a used Sebo E3, and are very happy with it. A long-haired human, and 2 cats, with mostly carpet. Unfortunately neither Miele nor Sebo have a "tangle-free" brushroll. But for the Sebos, the ET-1 electric powerhead brush roll removes easily (squeeze one spot, and twist, to remove the cover, then slide the brush roll out). That could be a nice feature for you, to make it easy to clean the brushroll each time. The Sebo K3 offers basically the same cleaning performance, I think, but is cheaper than the E3. An older design, and smaller bags, but still well-proven. The good Miele and Sebo units are bagged, so there are fewer filters to deal with. Once the bag is finally full, toss it and slap in another one. The bag does most of the filtering; for Sebo, I've seen advice to replace the other filters every 15-20 bags, which for most folks would be a very long time.

I agree with SiXX5150, for majority carpet you'll need a vacuum with a powered brushroll so that it can properly clean the carpet. None of the Mieles on sale have a carpet powerhead, the Mieles with a carpet powerhead are the [Miele Classic C1 Cat & Dog](https://www.mieleusa.com/product/10639470/canister-vacuum-cleaners-classic-c1-cat-and-dog-powerline-sbbn0-lotus-white) $789 and the [Miele C3 Kona](https://www.mieleusa.com/product/10014580/canister-vacuum-cleaners-complete-c3-kona-powerline-sgfe0-obsidian-black) $1159. The C1 has a shorter cord and a tool clip, the C3 has a slightly longer cord and a tool storage compartment. Both have the same carpet powerhead. Other options are the [Sebo K3](https://classicvac.com/sebo-airbelt-k3-premium-white/) $849 and the [Sebo E3](https://classicvac.com/sebo-airbelt-e3-premium-arctic-white/) $1049. I really prefer the easier maintenance and longer 10-year warranty from Sebo over the Miele C1 and C3. The K3 is the older model so it's a little cheaper, it has an offset hose, a 2-step upholstery tool, a bottom bag door, and a tug to rewind cord. The E3 has a center mounted hose, easier upholstery tool, top bag door, and a cord rewind button. Another option if you want a very lightweight vacuum is the [Karcher Ranger](https://www.kaercher.com/us/commercial/vacuum-cleaners/upright/ranger-10129000.html) $199. This is a lightweight upright vacuum similar to an Oreck. The Ranger has carpet height adjustment however it has no hose or tools and an awkward side mounted power button. It's not quiet like the Miele and Sebo canisters because of the direct/dirty fan design.

Sebo is a great brand for professional cleaners, they're powerful, durable, and repairable. If you just want one vacuum that can clean all floor types then really the Sebo Felix is the best option. The other Sebo uprights don't have brushroll shutoff so some of them can do hard floors but not as well as having brushroll shutoff. Downsides to the Felix are a heavy handle weight and a short built in hose. A Sebo K3 or Sebo E3 are canisters that can do all floor types as well. If you want one of the Sebo uprights that aren't a Felix I'd choose the Sebo Essential G4. I prefer the manual carpet height adjustment, it gives you exactly what you want and is one less motor to break. And I prefer being able to remove the whole brushroll on the G4 instead of just the brushstrips on the Mechanical Series. To clean hard floors you'll need to add the kit with an extension hose, extension wand, and parquet brush. I wouldn't risk using the X7 on hard floors even though it has a squeegee because I wouldn't want to risk being blamed for scratching a client's floors. My ideal setup is 2 vacuums, an upright for the carpets, and a canister for the hard floors and above floor cleaning. I'd get a Essential G4 and a E1 Kombi. Having 2 vacuums can help you finish a job if one vacuum goes down during the job. If the upright goes down the canister can clean carpets (though it takes more work) and if the canister goes down you can finish using the hose on the upright. Also if a job has no carpets just take in the canister and vice versa. Be sure to find a local vacuum store to try them all in person first. What do you think?

When I moved from bagless vacuums to a Miele and a Sebo you'll notice how strong the suction is and how quiet it is compared to the average bagless vacuum. The materials are thicker and nicer. With Sebos I really like how much I can take it apart and replace almost anything myself. Do try one out in person first, many people prefer uprights to canisters. I grew up with Kenmore canister vacuums so I didn't have to adjust how I vacuum.

A Kenmore canister would easily fall under your budget and have a lot of the ergonomic features you need, like lightweight, cord reel, foot pedals, and fingertip controls. Tbh any canister these days have foot pedals and cord rewinds. I'm a Miele fan, but sebos are a better value. If you can get the Sebo k3 from a dealer (usually for under $700) that would be your best bet. You'd use your dominant hand to maneuver the floor head while using your non dominant to pull at the hose to reposition the canister as you go. If you don't have two hands at your disposal pulling the canister and working in sections while surrounding the canister also works. Bonus points if your place is the perfect size for the canister to use only one plug centrally. These canisters tend to have less weight in hand than even stick models (other than the upright style stick models). These canisters will also last 20 years, with each bag filling up every 3-9 months depending on if you have pets and how many people you have at home. Bagless vacuums require deep cleaning and filter maintenance that will aggravate allergies with the aerosolization of fine dust. with bagged models, you simply toss and replace the bag every few months, and replace the filter every 4ish bags (which works out to 2-3 years for a smaller home/family). Sure it's a disposable, but they're made from recycled fibers already and it's a better prospect than buying a subpar machine every few years. It is also just more hygienic. And are the only option for folks with the worst allergies. Sebos work excellently and have good filtration, however Mieles, with their HEPA filter do filter slightly better and function better and more quietly, however they are more expensive. Any Miele with the parquet twister floor tool and seb217 would be right for you. I recommend buying it from a dealer as you can mix and match the floor heads. From a dealer you can get the c3 Kona with the seb217 (instead of the 228 bc it's lighter) for under $850 on sale, and there are sales. You might be able to get the c1 homecare model for cheaper, so ask about that. The cat & dog model is cheaper but you'll want the HEPA filter. Also Miele bags & filters are cheaper than sebos, even if youre using Miele HEPA with the full size machines. Sebo parts are only sold by dealers and they're very expenny. The Miele allergy pack is 8 bags and a heap filter for $55 (~retail for the Miele HEPA or Sebo filters alone). Other than that, I'd say lookout on the used marketplaces for good deals. I got my $1800 Miele for $300, so it's possible. Good luck.

Consumer reports isn’t trust worthy. They used to rate Kenmore way higher than Panasonic, when Panasonic was literally the same thing. They’ve also had ethics issues in the past. Kenmore has poor filtration when compared to Miele and Sebo. The hepa in Kenmore means nothing because it isn’t a sealed system, and some of the models exhaust right on the floor which blows dust everywhere. Part quality is also meh. Shark is meh. Not serviceable, just a cheap vacuum. Wire cutter ranked Sebo highly because it’s a genuinely good all around vacuum that is also serviceable. However. The K3 that was rated so highly isn’t sebos best vacuum, the E3 or D4 is their best model. Sebo US provided the K3 due to the price difference. Sebo is one of the few vacuum companies (Miele as well) that make a truly serviceable product, and in a world that is trying to go more green, we should be moving away from brands like shark, Dyson, etc that are really just throw away products overall. I would say to buy the Kenmore over the shark, but the Sebo performs better in every single aspect.

Sebos stick hasn’t come to Canada yet and this is actually my first time seeing it so I’m gonna analyze that more tomorrow. Thanks for sending that to me! About a year ish ago during my last meeting with Sebo I was told they were in development of one and was told when they releases one it’ll blow all the other ones away - hence why they’ve waited so long to get it right. I first knew about it about 4 years ago. Kinda cool that day has finally come. And duh sebos exists to make $. I mean what kind of statement is that. But that in itself doesn’t make them an unethically profit driven company. And to prefer Lindhaus Powerhead over a Sebo ET Powerhead…. I mean if that’s how you feel than ok, the Lindhaus head is still a very good Powerhead, but the ET series heads from Sebo are far easier to service for the consumer (that brush roller removal system really makes a difference). Yea you’re right about the Lindhaus head having a dial non click style height adjust system so it can be more precise, but most consumers are not going to use it at the right height, where as the Sebo head is easier to use. The Sebo head typically pushes easier too. But the Lindhaus head would be the apples to apples comparison head to sebos. Also Sebo has a boost feature on some models which does overide it, and from my experience you don’t typically need it. Those X series heads are not problematic. If you’ve had tons of issues with them then you’ve had bad luck. I know a lot of hotels that use them and they love em. In terms of pricing the US definitely has a bigger spread. Canadas is $899 K3, $999 E3, $1099 D4. Sebo in the US is much more expensive. Same thing with Miele. Same Thing with Dyson 💩. Seems vacuums in the US are just generally more expensive. Id say you’re probably right that the difference between each model is more than it should be in the US, but for what you’re getting, you’re not getting ripped off by any means. If they weren’t selling right they’d probable adjust the pricing. The E3 without question has more power than the K3, and for $200 US I would absolutely take it over the K3. The D4 should probably drop $100-200. But for $1399 is the vacuum a rip off - not at all, and it is without question better than the K3, and I prefer it to the E3 personally. K3 needed more power and a few other things. But It’s prospective too. Sebo is one of the last company’s I’d be complaining about pricing wise. The E3 is better than the K3 and should cost more, the D4 is the best and should cost the most. It’s not like that doesn’t make sense. And I never said to trust Germans because they’re Germans lol…. But Sebo is without question one of the most if not the more trustworthy vacuum companies out there.

The E3 has a different hose from the K3/C3.1. The wider diameter of the taper gives it a bit of a stiffer feel near the base of the canister in my experience. It'll probably get more flexible with age (as these crushproof hoses do) and ultimately isn't a big deal to me, but I can pretty quickly tell the difference between the tapered and uniform diameter hoses when I'm using these machines.

I don’t think you’ll find a good vaccum for that price range. Dysons won’t do anything (I have one and have a medium pile rug). For even a small amount of rugs/carpets sebo k3/e3 or d4. If you think the amount of carpet you have is not that much compared to hardwood/tile, you could go with an e2 or k2. But I won’t recommend it.

I trust vacuum recommendations on the internet (and Reddit) as much as I do mattress recommendations. The Carpet and Rug Institute, whose board includes members from companies like Shaw and Mohawk who manufacture carpet (https://carpet-rug.org/about-us/board-of-directors/), maintains a certified list of vacuums (https://carpet-rug.org/soa-vacuums/). You can filter by residential and commercial. Of course there are good vacuums that aren't certified. I have no affiliation with them but do happen to own a bagged Hoover WindTunnel (2006), two Riccar uprights (\~2017, one was a gift), and a Sebo canister vac. I can get the Riccar and Sebo serviced nearby and I stock some spare parts, for example the Riccar brush roll has replaceable brush strips.

The comment regarding the handle creaky sounds and audible air leak... I have found the audible air leak in multiple Miele canisters (over the years) AND Sebo. I don't think this is a change from previous models I've used. It just seems to be a reality that they don't see as a significant concern (ie. likely to not affect performance in a meaningful way, but preventing it would probably require fittings that would likely add cost, decrease dependability, and in the very least, wear down with not much use to the point that they ultimately start leaking). I really don't think it likely makes a noteworthy difference and they know the benefit:cost situation. As for the creaky handle -with even slight "give" in it, I have definitely noted it, but again, I believe it is one of those, "it doesn't actually affect anything in a meaningful way, but it does allow for the fit and connections as intended" situations. I could be wrong, but if it were an issue, I think warranty costs alone would discourage them from continuing with the practice. BUT, again, there is no doubt, that it is a very real thing. I haven't had an issue with the swivel of the ET-1 but prefer how light and maneuverable it feels to me. The low profile is also much better than \*most\* of the high end power heads I've used. Thank you for the review and thoughts. It is nice to hear about experiences!

A Henry should be at the top of your list, since it's affordable and manufactured in the UK.  You can use variety of parquet brushes and the horsehair ones would be great for LVP.  A miele or Sebo would be more expensive and would come with extra bells and whistles such as self retracting cords and better ergonomics, storage.  If you need to clean rugs, you can find a turbo attachment.  These options will last you 15+ years.   If you want something cordless, Dyson fluffy rollers are good for quick pickups and won't hurt the flooring.  The V8 absolute package includes a fluffy roller and goes on sale intermittently to be within your budget.  Keep in mind while it might be a space saving option and convenient, cordless stick vacuums usually last a couple of years before big problems arise, hence why the main recommendation is for bagged, plug in vacuums.

That’s what I thought, too. Here’s my math on that: I spent $1k on my Sebo in March. I added up the cost of the 3 Dyson vacuums( I’ve had since 2017) and the parts I’ve had to replace = I should have bought a Sebo sooner. Models I’m literally placing on the curb tomorrow for whoever wants them. I’ve had it with Dyson’s cheap plastic crap: The upright Dyson (2021), V6 (2017) replaced with V11 (2022). All have had their brush heads replaced. 2 of the 3 are broken again. Not sure what’s wrong with the upright, again. We don’t even use them heavily, I have cleaners in once every 2 weeks. It’s absurd.

I couldn't afford a $1400 vacuum if I wanted one but Sebo is way more than 1% gains over a "normal" vacuum. They are also repairable which is a huge factor if BIFL - repair your expensive high quality item instead of buying and disposing X cheaper ones. Everyone has to draw their own line at where X is, before they can't justify the expense. But you did not, in your example, meet any BIFL.

The airstorm, while good, is no better than a miele or sebo. I wouldn't pay the premium. Mieles and sebos are also sealed to trap dust. They are also more modern in design and easier to use (they have cord rewind while the air storm does not). There's nothing really bespoke about the airstorm. Underneath the top shell, the power nozzle is the same as ones avaliable for Miele models. The hose and other tools are generic off-the-shelf supplies etc. While it would probably last you a long time and do a good job, you might resent using it. I'd strongly suggest you try one in person before choosing, and frankly I'd save money and go with a nicer to use miele/sebo.

I didn’t know you had to be rich to buy the $9 pill box they recommend. Or the hundreds of other products they have under $20. Sorry you can’t afford a quality vacuum or other quality products. But don’t be resentful. Instead, I would focus on increasing your income or learn better budgeting. I only make $40,000/year. I use YNAB and have bought many of Wirecutters Top or Upgrade picks, including a Sebo vacuum. You have to choose what things in life that are priorities and worth spending more on. I don’t think it’s a secret—to anyone with a pulse—that quality cost money. Not always, but usually. It’s okay if certain product is not worth spending a premium on for you personally. But saying Wirecutter is for rich people makes you sound poor and ignorant, and that mindset will guarantee you stay poor for the rest of your life.

Honestly I have hard floors everywhere except my stairs. I own a cheap no name cordless I got on Amazon and a Sebo a friend game me when her parents passed away. The cheap cordless one gets more use because it’s easy- it works exactly the way I need it to when I need it to. It’s been 2 years and it’s going strong. When it breaks, I’ll buy another cheap one. As long as I keep the filter clean, I have zero problems with suction etc. it’s has a beater brush head, height adjustable handle and a few attachments- pretty bare bones. I use the Sebo for cleaning the filter of the other vacuum and for getting my rugs “really” clean when I feel like I need to. One day I may have carpet again or deeper pile rugs and then it will get a lot more use. Until then, the cheap cordless is great!

Did this and the vacuum store recommended Sebo over Miele. Apparently Sebo has a better product warranty and it's easier to order replacement parts. At that price range, there's probably more good vacuum brands than bad ones.

I'm probably going to get down voted for this but I'd stay away from Riccar. They aren't what they used to be. SEBO and Miele are the ones that get the most love and for good reason. I prefer SEBO above all because they're 100% German made machines, they have a great ecosystem, are easy to self service and parts are readily available. They have great filtration and bags are inexpensive. As for ZeroG, I'd be skeptical of them. They are a small company and every time I look at their website they are always out of stock. They use proprietary bags that are not available anywhere but their own website. What happens if/when they go out of business? Can't get bags for them and the machine is useless. I will say they make a nice looking machine with awesome features and performance. I'd buy one second hand if I could find one but if I paid full price and couldn't get service or parts then I'd be upset.

Real vacuum dealerships will not sell Dyson any longer. Many other traditional brands either because those companies have decided to produce in Asia and change designs super fast. It is the OPPOSITE of sustainability, it is planned obsolescence at an incredible level. Vacs should not be bought online and a big box stores, these machines do not clean carpet/air, are designed to fail, can’t be serviced and are literal fire hazards. Man the stories I can tell you about “brand new” machines. Most were manufactured years before they reached the consumer. CAVEAT EMPTOR. Dealerships sell quality machines, built to last, serviceable, at great competitive prices, with warranties that do not cost extra. You can’t find service like that anywhere! Find a dealer and buy Riccar or Sebo.

It comes down to wanting something that is built to last, easy to maintain and repair, and buying a brand that stands behind their product. When you buy a Sebo from an authorized dealer, it comes with a 10 year warranty. You can take it to any Sebo dealer and they’ll fix it for free. You don’t get that at a $150 price point. It’s not like 30 years ago when most products were BIFL. If you want something that lasts and has a good warranty, it costs more. If you don’t care if it lasts and you don’t mind replacing it often, spend $150. It’s that simple.

When we bought our Karastan carpet, there was a vacuum recommendation on the website. We already had a Sebo, and weren't about to purchase something else. We also don't have high pile. I previously saw they recommended Soniclean, but for all I know, it could have been a tie-in for financial reasons more than they really thought it was better than anything else.

Yup, these original Dyson's were incredibly reliable for the most part. I think the first one in my family lasted close to 14 years before it finally died. The second was about 12-13 years old as well. Dyson's are not bad today, they just are not that good anymore, and not as reliable. For reliability you're definitely going to want a Sebo or Miele.

I have a Sebo and really like it, but just generally would recommend a bagged vacuum over a bagless upright. They seem convenient, but after years of using a dyson, it's so NICE to throw the bag of stinky (I have a golden retriever XD) dog hair into the trash and not have it funking up the whole vacuum, forever. Completely pulling apart and having it professionally serviced never got all the doggy smell out of the dyson. Newer dysons are also absolute junk compared to a dyson from 10-15 years ago.

Yes, bagless is seen as more economical and more environmental friendly. Although the environmental friendly argument falls apart because it's better to own a bagged sebo vacuum for 10+ years than it is to keep replacing a crappy bagless vacuum every three to four years. I'm not a fan of buying bags, but the sebo cleans better than every other vacuum I've tried. It's also convenient to just throw away a bag as well.

I just asked about how often I’d be buying bags for a sebo with two high shedding large dogs, (similar probably too a gsd and 3 (if long hair cats) I would probably be replacing the bag every week. (Actually more than that because I didn’t tell people I also have 3 cats haha) Someone with a husky commented that they replace the bag 1.5-2 times a month. Calculating that cost for two dogs is another 210 a year in bags (probably more for me) I am taking that into account with  replacing a vacuum that died (Dyson) but it doesn’t have a bag or a Sebo that has a 10 year warranty but I will have probably bought 2-3 dysons in that time period with the amount I’d be spending on bags. I haven’t decided yet 🙃 but thought I’d share the numbers.

A Sebo could survive longer. I've seen Sebos go through tons of shit and still perform like new. Not to trash on Miele, Miele's are great vacuums, and I would recommend them. But a Sebo is blowing the Miele out of the water with durability in a commercial setting.

Sebo and Miele are BIFL. Dyson is not BIFL. If you buy a Sebo, the manual comes with an exploded parts diagram where you can buy each and every part. Dyson does not have this because when something breaks, they want you to buy a new vacuum. Same goes for Shark, Bissell and other bagless garbage that people keep recommending.
