I have the same Shark Deluxe model. Bought it Summer of 2014 and still going strong. I happen to believe that it's all about preventative maintenance. Just like anything else electric or otherwise. If you maintain it and follow instructions it will last longer than when neglected. Knowing how much more expensive everything is today, I prefer to take care of all my equipment. 🙏💗

I've had my Shark Navigator DLX (model NV70) for about 10 years, give or take. It's been a beast, taking a beating over the years and still works perfectly. My fiance had a different Shark vacuum of similar design but it is significantly worse that this one so it sits in a closet (soon to be sold most likely). My only minor gripe is now that we have a 3 floor home, hauling it up and down stairs is annoying so those floors get vacuumed less frequently. Fairly minor; easily fixed by just getting it done. I've never considered needing a new or upgraded vacuum because I don't see how a different one could significantly improve upon my experience with the NV70. That said, however, I did just buy my first Dyson, a refurbished V15 cordless to replace our trash Eureka stick vacuum (quick kitchen cleaner). It was on eBay for \~60% off, directly from Dyson, and has a 2 year warranty, so it seemed like a decent way to see how Dyson performs. I was close to buying a Shark cordless instead, though....

You 2ill never get the same power from a cordless as you would a corded vacuum. I like shark, i use it professionally cleaning and have never found another vacuum in the same price range that has as much suction. Highly recommend the shark navigator deluxe, just remember to wash foam & cloth filters by hand with a tiny dab of dawn after about 5-10 dumps. Weighs 10 lbs (this is very light) and articulates easy for hard floors and carpet. I have RA and i use it for cleaning jobs seveal times a week. My last one lasted me almost 10 yrs and i bought it for $160. Can't beat that.

I use a shark navigator deluxe. It was $189 :) I have a cleaning business and have zero complaints and ALL my clients have pets. Other ways to manage pet hair: Dry dusting swiffer floor pads (thin and trap fur. You use them dry on a swiffer) Regular dusting from top to bottom before vacuuming Basic I know! :)

Thank you for saying this. I bought a Shark Navigator dlx (not lift away) for my small apartment from Target years ago, and well I never vacuumed as often as I should (in fact I went longer stretches than I care to admit), it still worked great after probably 10 years. I have had long hair and pets the whole time. It picked up a lot, easy enough to maneuver, not too heavy, and the noise wasn't terrible either. In fact, I have to replace it only because it got damaged when my apartment suffered a sewer line overflow 🤦‍♀️ 2 weeks ago. I'm just days back home now, looking for something new, and disheartened to read all the negative reviews. I can't find the model I had and my funds are limited, so I feel a little better going back to a brand I've trusted, even if I can't find the same model. Many thanks. PS I'm looking around here for recommendations and came across this post. I welcome any thoughts/recs on Sharks or better for pets, long hair, 70% carpet for about $200 or less. Upright and corded, I assume.

The cords are often very short and there is no HEPA filter - it spews some dust out the back. It’s for construction but there are high dollar shop vacs that have better options too. I used my Shark navigator (Walmart) like a shop vac for drywall dust and it didn’t hurt it- needed a good cleaning.

If considering Miele, also consider Sebo. Think Dyson gets dinged for longevity, particularly considering its price. Project Farm does excellent reviews. Just remember the vacuums are new. A person who does repairs will have an additional viewpoint based on what is brought in. My Shark Navigator (7 yr old) brush roll failed. Pulled out a Eureka (bag 20 years old). The Eureka did a much better job on my carpet. The Shark is much easier to maneuver and handle. Have been looking and watching many videos. My impression in the comments is quality has decreased for many brands. People had older models last much longer than their more recent models. All from the same brand. But there are also people with the same brand who have had theirs for quite some time. So, it is hit and miss. Think I just read that Dyson is not made to be repaired. Commenter said it was apparent that the plastic shell was closed (have to break the tab to open it) and then the soldering was done. IOWs it was designed to be assembled; not disassembled and repaired. This criticism is appearing more and more frequently. For example, Shark is considered disposable - it’s the “disposable lighter” of vacuums. I’m on the fence. I’m debating the point made below - is it worth paying more for a more durable and easier to repair machine or pay less and expect to replace it after the warranty expires. I’ve also watched Performance Reviews. Recommend his videos.

Well,I did it. I walked into a vacuum cleaner store and repair shop just to see this Sebo upright people refer to. I had already ordered a Kenmore BU4050 based on reviews although I have never seen one. I've been through every vacuum type imaginable in the last - ahem - 40 years. Starting with Electrolux canister on glider rails, a family hand-me-down. Dirt Devil tiny little canister. Hoover upright, Sanitaire commercial upright, Miele stick vac with removable handheld dustbuster thing, Miele canister. Had a Dyson V5 for when the canister was too heavy to pull out. Shark Navigator Pet upright - nimble, easy to use, went under bed - I liked it for a long time but slider for floor type change got stuck and it all those plastic parts got a little rickety. I learned: While cordless is quick and easy, it's also weak suction. Sanitair upright cleaned well on carpet but no accessories. Dysons are pretty colored plastic but all marketing, hurts my wrist, went through 2 batteries, just top heavy, and poor suction. Miele corded stick vacuum had very strong suction but was too heavy and center of mass is midway up so awkward unless you are very strong and was not self standing. Miele canister is great but all those accessories take up a lot of space and I'm over moving canisters around and banging the wall. Bagless was good as a novelty but so messy - the vacuum itself attracted dust and emptying always led to some dust on me. So I wanted a bagged, corded, self-standing, upright that had a low center of gravity, was nimble, no too heavy, and could go under the bed. Even though the sales guy was enthusiastic and informative but not pushy, the Sebo Felix sold itself. I bought the Sebo Felix even though I wasn't going there to buy, just see it. It does every thing I want and is much quieter. 10 year warranty, locally serviced by "Onyx" dealer \[that's what they call official dealers\], give loaner vacs if it takes more than 3 days. The store has been there 26 years, first the father and now the son owns it. They repair every brand of vacuum but only sell Sebo, Miele, and some in-the-wall systems. When I think of all the money I've spend on vacuums .... The good ones were Electrolux, Miele, Sanitaire, and for a while the Shark impressed me. Now I hope the Sebo will be my last vacuum. $700 US, price goes up $200 on September 25 due to tariffs. Dealer said he's sold 17 of them this month from special orders I will return the Kenmore BU4050 unopened when it arrives.
