"I no longer use a bagless vacuum though. ... The good thing about going to a good quality bagged vacuum is not having to clean the filters ever month and not having to dump the canister after every use. ... So far (after 4 months of having the Oreck and Kenmore), I rather the Oreck for carpets and I rather their HEPA bags because you get literally no smell. The Kenmore I find will have a bit of a smell after sitting up between uses. However I suck up some downy crystals every so often, but they make special odor elimination tablets for bagged vacuums. So they are pretty much low maintenance compared to bagless."

Awesome thank you so much! I think that was my top choice as well ( I have long hair and so does the family member I’m buying it for and the brush roll gets so caught up so often- I like that it has that plastic brush instead)
So the timing of the vacuums goes Shark Apex > Vertex > Stratos. The main things making sure it has hair anti-tangle, duoclean, crevice tool, a brush tool, and ideally powered lift-away. The lift-away is nice because it allows you take off the vacuum to clean under furniture without the canister attached. Check out Costco, Sams Club, Bjs, etc. if any models are there. I would recommend the [Shark AZ2002](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089TQB1RB) that's $269 since it's a powered lift-away with some accessories. This is not bifl but will usually last 8-10 years. I think the vertex models have more aftermarket accessories too, just try to get OEM filters.
I have had this one for 4 years and it is very good and low maintenance. Not the one you are asking about, but more a comment on quality/longevity. # Shark AZ2002C Vertex DuoClean PowerFin Upright Vacuum with Powered Lift-Away
You did not say which Shark model you used but you did say it was cordless. Yikes! I have tried cordless and various robot vacs. I have yet to meet a cordless that is impressive. My conclusion regarding robot vacs is their will never be one that cleans as well as I do. I have used Shark's corded Vertex AZ2002 since it was released in 2020 and love it. However, I only have 3 large area rugs and the rest of our 2,367 SF home is tile. If I had carpeted rooms, I would be inclined to get their newer models, AZ3002 or AZ4002 that have larger dust bins. I like mine so much I am about ready to buy another AZ2002 just to make sure I have it on hand in case something should happen to mine. I do wish vacuums came with many more attachments in general for things like car interior, dryer lint vent, computer keyboard, and dusting in general. The aftermarket attachment kits are marginal at best and I love to clean! I pop in my AirPods and I am ready to roll...
I love my Shark AZ2002 Vertex. Going strong, super strong, after 4 years of abuse. It's awesome at getting all the dog, cat, and people hair being shed around here!
i have an az2002 and the screws are all security torx screws on the power head. the soft brush doesnt spin anymore after about 2-3 years (if that) so getting it apart and servicing it is a nightmare.
Don't buy shark vacuum. I spent around 500$ for AZ2002 and used it only for 1.5 years. Its not meant for repairs. Ironically you could see the name of shark in top vaccum list in almost all reviews though.
Never buy a Bissell. While their higher end models have excellent filtration (HEPA filters and sealed systems) the only problem is you can't wash them. Every Bissell I've had, I find if you wash their "washable" filters, they stink after. Like the exhaust will smell like wet musky dog. So it's best to replace them. Never had experience with Hoover. But both Bissell and Hoover are low quality compared to Shark, Dyson and Miele. Dysons offer great raw suction, however I don't care for the canisters. After a period of use, you'll have to clean those cyclones as they'll get full of dust. Also, they aren't that good on high pile carpeting or rugs (they're difficult to handle on high pile carpeting and they tend to get door rugs sucked up into the brush roll). I used to run Sharks. I actually collected a few. I had an old model I salvaged that worked good on carpets, I had one of the first powered lift aways. That was my all time favorite because it worked the best especially on carpets of all heights, not good on door rugs because the rug would get stuck in the brush roll due to the suction, did well on hard floors, not as good as their duo clean models. I had 2 different duo cleans (one powered lift away one not) you definitely want the powered lift away model. It'll clean under your beds unlike the regular lift away (I had the la500 that wasn't a powered lift away, I loved it. The power fins don't get hair tangles like a traditional brush roll and the duo clean cleaned my hard floors amazing, but the powered lift away I'd use to clean under beds) one of the best things about the power fins is vacuuming your mattress. If you've never done this, then I'd highly recommend the Shark Vertex or Stratos. You'll be absolutely disgusted at what it pulls out your mattress. I no longer use a bagless vacuum though. I recently had the privilege of salvaging a mid 90s Oreck. When I salvage and fix a vacuum, I always would test it on my carpet and see how it preforms against my Shark Nv752 and if they'd do well I'd keep them (sometimes I'd sell them if I didn't want it), well I used the Oreck first then went behind it with the Shark nv752 and the canister was empty. So I was disappointed my shark wasn't as good as a bagged vacuum. I bought a Kenmore Intuition and put it up against my nv752 and it also did better than the Shark. So I ended up selling 3 of my sharks and gave the 752 to my grandmother to replace her old shark nv501. She loves it and she says it's good enough for her needs and it worked better than her old one. The good thing about going to a good quality bagged vacuum is not having to clean the filters ever month and not having to dump the canister after every use. So they are pretty much low maintenance compared to bagless. Idk your budget, but if I were in your shoes, these are the exact 2 vacuums I'd recommend for you: the Shark AZ2002 Vertex (if you want bagless, comes with a crevice tool, dusting/upholstery tool and I do believe it comes with an air powered turbo tool) or the Kenmore 81615 (if you want bagged, it's a canister vacuum so it'll be lighter for you to handle and great accessories. It comes with a multi floor power head, a hard floor only attachment, crevice tool, dusting brush and a motorized mini brush roll - a motorized version of a turbo tool). Both would be great multi floor options, the advantage of the shark vertex is the power fins so no hair tangled brush roll, and it'll clean your mattress amazing, the advantage of the Kenmore is you have 2 floor cleaning tools so it'll be better of a multi surface cleaner and it has a motorized turbo tool instead of air powered compared to the Shark. If you want one for the shark you have to buy it separately for like 40- 50 dollars. Price wise, the Shark AZ2002 costs about $420, the Kenmore costs $312 (prices brand new on Amazon). Personally if I were you, I'd go with the Kenmore for the better accessories and slightly cheaper price. Plus no big box store sells them. You have to get it via Amazon or on the Kenmore website. I hope this info helps and sorry it was so much lol. Please let me know what you chose to get and I'd love to hear how it works for you
Shark- vertex DuoClean PowerFin Upright Vacuum with powered lift away. Hasn’t died yet and it gets abused. Also weekly brushing helps a lot.
I have the roborock Qrevo Pro (called the S5V now i think), and I really like its vacuum and mopping ability. I was able to ditch my old mop because of it, but you still need a powerful vacuum if you have carpets, because a robot can’t vacuum all that deep. That being said, I think you have conflicting requirements there, adhoc cleaning and deep cleaning. I think you should split the two. My adhoc cleaner is a small battery powered Shark vacuum that i spent 80 dollars on. Because it’s light and easy to use, I can carry it in my car for toddler spills and tracked in dirt. However, it’s not that powerful… For power and for deep cleaning, you want corded. My deep power cleaner is the Shark Vertex (latest model is called powerdetect). Buying two vacuums to fulfill these needs will also be cheaper/more effective than buying a single vacuum that covers both… because batteries (Especially ones from Dyson) are quite expensive.
Shark liftaways are the best combo of cheap/powerful. I have the corded vertex (called the power detect now), but i think a lighter slightly less powerful one is the navigator.
If you’re still interested in bagless, you could get a shark corded vertex, last i checked they were 250 dollars on amazon. The corded powerdetect is their latest model of the same configuration and is 350 i believe. Amazing power, and it has a duoclean brushhead that works perfect on both carpet and tile (this way you don’t need to follow that silly flowchart). Vacuum wars youtube channel has great things to say about them.
I have an earlier version of the Shark PowerDetect (the corded Vertex). It’s an awesome vacuum, the vacuum wars youtube channel even has great things about it. That being said, it’s bagless, and most people who buy bagless vacuums never clean their filters properly. When they don’t, the vacuums break, and then people think it’s the brand that’s the problem…
I really love my Shark Vertex, which is an older version of what you have shown there. Tons of power and works great on both hardfloors and carpet.
I have the Vertex (it’s an older version of one of their lift-aways) and love it. It’s easy to disassemble and put back together, and it’s only a few pieces. I believe their current flagship liftaway is the PowerDetect corded, just a slightly fancier version of the Vertex.
Shark lift-aways are super powerful/affordable/flexible, and awesome if you don’t mind a little extra vacuum cleaning (it’s bagless).
