Got a Vax Home Pro cordless stick vacuum for £146. It stands on its own and sucks great. Would never go back to a corded one unless I moved into a mansion.

I got a Vax Pet Pro five years ago and it's still solid. Could have more suckage but it's great for a two bedroom - usually gets a few rounds before a charge. Mine is an older model than the one that looks to be on sale now though.

We have the VAX HomePro Pet Cordless Vacuum Cleaner, and I really like how powerful it is (and the turbo is even stronger) compared to my old cordless hoover. The battery life is also decent and I can do my house in one go. However the filter and storage for the dirt is tiny and I usually empty it midway through, and we've not had it long and I need a new filter already. I also really hate how thick the plastic on the hoover head is and it leaves a big gap when you hoover against the wall (which you then need to use a different attachment to get but that's a hassle when you're doing a quick hoover.) We've also just brought a refurbished Henry for £60. So now I can do a big corded Hoover once a week. The power difference is insane (but it is a higher wattage beast).

I'm in the same situation as you re: flat size, and I just bought the Vax Petsense with 2 batteries. It works great and I'm very pleased with it. Going around my whole flat uses about 1/2 the charge of one battery. Cost me just over £200 with a discount code and it was on sale too. My only complaint is that the battery charger is separate to the vacuum holder, but that's it. I had a (very old) Dyson cordless before and it's so much better than that.

I have carpets mostly and it does a really good job of picking everything up on the first go. I mostly got the upgrade because I have a cat and the litter can get everywhere, which my 10 year old Dyson couldn't cope with any more. The Vax picks it up first go every time. I have lino in my kitchen and bathroom and it picks up the litter there without issue to. It has some kind of sensor that makes it go faster when there's more debris, which also seems to work well.

Robot vaccum and a Vax pet upright. I can go ages without having to vacuum or mop but it'll depend on how dirty your floors are. Mine is just pet hair and food bits

Unfortunately I think it depends on the carpet. I used to have a cheap pet Vax vacuum and it did an excellent job. Then I moved to a house with thick cheap carpet that was full of static and everything stuck to it. I ended up getting the pet meile but it was was still a lot of effort. The turbo head is good and sometimes I used the wood floor head instead as the brush dislodged fur from the carpet. It could be worth looking into one of those steam clean vacuums? Good luck

The pink Vax pets. This was after I'd been using a Shark for about a year! https://preview.redd.it/u0z9koepx4xf1.png?width=1079&format=png&auto=webp&s=02f214c9b5351fdce0923fe3e45968e9a4aae538
