"I have C3 Complete, carpet, cats, and that thing sucks hard (the good kind of suck)."

"I use the bagged canister design for the whole house and for every mess. Even pet hair."

"The bag alone does a better job filtering than the whole of any Dyson or Shark. Then it goes through a pre-filter, and then a HEPA or carbon filter. ... The inside of my C3 is basically spotless. I could eat out of it, and I've had it for 8 years, with two dogs."

"if u are allergic or have allergic family members miele is the way to go. ... Filtration was the reason for me to pick up my miele c3 as well. ... But for someone who has allergies that difference is very important. ... I prefer finer filtration because we have multiple family members will alergies, to the point where it causes unbearable symptoms."

"With the Miele, I am pretty confident it is removing plenty of fine dust with the HEPA filtering"

"quieter than any vacuum I've ever used."

"One thing that sold me on paying the extra $s for it was the sound level. ... Even at full suction it is much quieter than any other vacuum I've heard, other than a built-in. ... Friend had a Dyson stick model and that sounded like jet engine revving up for take-off in comparison."

"it ’s quiet enough that our dog wouldn’t bother with it. ... it’s good for children, pets, and maintaining a cleaner air environment."

"Bagless vacuums require a lot of maintenance to keep everything shipshape. My Miele canister is god-tier perfect."

"The Meile C3 is a bagged vacuum that only has a hose that can cake up with that junk and that's unlikely. ... If it starts stinking, you change the bag and you have a new vacuum again."

"horrifically expensive"

"Miele straight robs you blind with their cost on bags and filters."

"I saw the prices they are charging now. That's wild! I agree they are super expensive now. ... I fully agree that spending over $1000 on a vacuum is crazy."

"dragging around a cleaner on little wheels"

"the canister is so godawful at maneuvering around corridors/corners, and will flip upside down if given half a chance."

"I'll be damned if I'm going to drag that thing up and down three floors regularly."

"its regular floorhead is a goddamn magnet for animal hair and requires multiple cleanings per use. So annoying."

"the powerhead jammed with pet hair within the first few minutes."

"The damn thing is not designed to be serviced except by a repairman. ... Seriously, even for hair wound up on the roller bar."

"My Miele has an infuriatingly short power cord, and my house is quite small"

"Setting up a cord and lugging around the Miele body always made vacuuming my least favorite chore."

"the worse user experience (tiny hallways, a cable to plug in, canister to drag around)"

I bought my Miele in 2004 and it's still running strong. Full disclosure: my husband broke the power head 10 years ago. I can't remember what he did except that it was a goofus move. I was really annoyed but I replaced the power head, kept the husband, and the vacuum has been running well ever since.

The general consensus here is that stick vacs as a whole aren't good. I think I'm inclined to agree when it comes to the absolute budget end of the spectrum like this. They won't perform and they won't last long. However I do genuinely think that stick vacs serve a purpose so I'm not against them like a lot of others on this sub. I have one that I use for quick pick ups and a quick run around every few days just to keep things looking ok. It is hugely convenient and my most used vacuum. But I have a corded canister and upright vacuum for deeper cleans every week or so. If I need to do a "proper" clean, the stick vac isn't coming out. You just have to go into the purchase knowing that even if you spend a little more, they're not going to be the longest lasting thing and won't perform as well as a half decent mains powered vacuum with a powered head, and in some cases they won't even perform as well as a canister with a turbo brush. Do you need the convenience of a stick vac? And what flooring do you mainly have?

Whilst it's less convenient, I find a canister vacuum the lightest to work with, although you do need to manoeuvre the machine around on the floor. With a canister you're barely holding any weight in your hand, it's all down on the floor. For above floor cleaning it's the best experience, and then for carpets and floors it's also easy as you're only pushing around the wand and floor head. In terms of lightweight sticks I don't know too many really I'm afraid. Sebo balance and Dyson V12 are both light. I can't speak to the longevity and quality of either though. I owned a V12 for a bit and it was light to use but I returned it as couldn't justify the expense for my daily runaround vacuum. I own a Levoit LVAC 200 which is...fine...but does a poor job on carpets, it will really only skim the surface. I replaced that with a Tineco Pure One Station Five. It's a bit heavier but it does the job and I picked it up new in box on eBay for about £125. The self empty station really helps and it does an ok job just keeping things looking clean. However I'm not sure how long it'll last as some of the joints are already getting creaky and loose.

If you get one with a turbo brush it'll be ok, not fantastic but it'll be better than just a straight suction head. I use a Miele canister with a turbo brush and it doesn't dig as deep as my upright with a powered head but it's fine. If you have low pile carpets then it should be ok. For me the convenience of a canister is the versatility of using it for above floor cleaning of upholstery, dusting etc...then also hard floors and area rugs/carpets. There are very limited canister vacuums available in the UK with powered heads, basically I think it's only Sebo who do them now - the K3, E3 and D4. However even the K3 is probably above your budget.

I have a bagged Miele cylinder as my main vacuum and a cordless bagless stick as a daily run around/quick pick up machine. There's no way the bagless stick could ever serve as my main vacuum. The Miele serves as a regular vacuum, DIY clean up machine, duster etc...has served me well for 9 years now and just keeps going and going. I cannot imagine the cordless stick I have lasting anything like as long - it's already feeling rickety and creaky after less than a year and I take good care of it. If you can afford it - Bagged corded vacuum for your main vacuum, cordless stick for a secondary run around.

Have a Miele canister. Paid a fraction of the price for it when I found one at the thrift store that someone neglected to clean their pet hair out of - but outstanding vaccuum.

Henry has always been the best hoover in my eyes and I've used many over the years. However I admit that they are cumbersome and they do deliberately throw themselves over in a tantrum, grab the corners of walls to avoid their workload and talk shit about you behind your back all while having a very smug look on their stupid red faces. That being said I would also reccomend miele. Also very good quality but much less personality.

Dyson are an utter rip off. I sympathise completely with you. Used to own one and I felt I’d have to do two rounds of the house to get it clean. Go for a Miele, they are cheaper and significantly better.

I’ve sold Miele for over 25 years. I’ve never seen that before. Why don’t you just let them give you another hose

I have a Miele canister. Love it! We have a lot of hard surfaces (hard wood and tile). I got the extra large attachment for hard floors, but honestly the normal sized one it comes with would be sufficient.
