I recently got an AnkerWork C310 and plugged it directly in to the Switch 2, and it picked up the microphone (which I tested and it worked) but it didn't recognise it as a camera.
I’ve tried a number of third-party cameras for Zoom calls (which I’m on all day) mounted on top of these monitors - and my face is not as natural compared to the built-in camera on my MacBook. In this picture the Mac is pointing at my face so that the light from the window lights me better. I’m 61 and have plenty of age spots and wrinkles and my AnkerWork 4k makes me look even worse, particularly if I’m pointed another direction in the room. There is a window on the left and I’ve had the desk turned 90 facing tat angle and it’s the same deal. Any and all ideas are welcome!
Webcams are firmly in "you get what you pay for" territory. If you just want something to play with, go to a local thrift store and find an old used Logitech, which you can usually have for cheap. Otherwise, Logitech C920 or AnkerWork C310 are both very good webcams, and neither requires a driver to run.
The iPhone is the best camera for the Mac. I have the Anker too but I have to say the low light performance bugs me, I need to have very good light for the camera autofocus to work, otherwise it looks blurry.
If you have an unused iPhone XR or newer, Continuity Camera is really high quality. Failing that, I bought an Anker C310 that seems pretty nice. The built in macbook cameras are pretty mid, IMO, but are better than the absolute dogwater that a lot of laptop OEMs cram in.
I have been trying a few, nor willing to spend a lot, finally got anker work c310 and I am quite happy with it.
