Meet 2-4K
Sharp 4K, great low-light, but buggy software.

Running these analyses costs money. Buy through my links to help keep lights on! I may get a small commission.
I went through a couple before I settled on this one [https://www.logitech.com/en-us/shop/p/c920s-pro-hd-webcam.960-001257?crid=34](https://www.logitech.com/en-us/shop/p/c920s-pro-hd-webcam.960-001257?crid=34)
I've never been asked to take a picture of my ID since moving to this web cam. The main thing I was looking for though was wider field of vision since they always had me hugging my monitor to keep my head/hands/mouse/keyboard/monitor in view.
After buying a few of the ones others suggested, I ended up biting the bullet and buying a [Logitech C920S PRO HD](https://www.logitech.com/en-us/shop/p/c920s-pro-hd-webcam.960-001257) directly from their site. The other ones (including the main WGU suggested one at the time) didn't have large enough field of view (to cover my head, hands, keyboard, mouse, monitor) or they couldn't focus on my ID during the checks.
This is the one I use after going through a few other cheaper options. It got old trying to fit everything into frame without a larger desk and having to take cell phone pics on my DL so I could zoom in on the details I needed.
The one you linked looks bad because its not a real brand. If your just doing job interviews, it will be enough but for actual streaming quality is very important. https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Webcam-C920S-Privacy-Shutter/dp/B08DRQ66WP?crid=2EV4DRNRTPOT9&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.kR7wj9aWqwdB0BnDYAxjlGafwzUJxHbfKnhWbwA9gwVbk9fE0Zu0-eX8K4cz_yxcDptf-wqp-pYOucHEEgzUZU_UXPP2c6VdIdp11AkGbpm2m7JAdLz6Occ_NLBF1s_YG0jev1GBvMm1zcb5tP0XsuaUZJh3QjajQayLwQc79-3dmNUpoSmoT6mCSN2VPfcVgvdSjyRKZX9-Bv0TOG6QEA.8-LujLPTZ1fMoeR80V40l6tC0uyROiiRzvQaC8FkAqE&dib_tag=se&keywords=logitech+c920&qid=1758074262&s=electronics&sprefix=logitech+c920%2Celectronics%2C347&sr=1-3
Strange but effective. No matter what I tried (different brightness and color temperatures, open/closed window blinds at different times of day, camera brightness boost, meeting brightness boost, etc.), I always looked pale-to-grayish on camera. Out of frustration I bought a ring light and suddenly I looked like myself! Maybe it was just my Logitech C920S HD Pro webcam, but the ring light improvement was not subtle. My PM even complimented me on the difference. Working remotely. people definitely respond to us - and trust what we’re saying - based in part on how we look. As a manager, I need to be as effective as possible in meetings for my team to succeed. I consider the ring light to be an excellent career investment.
I've tried the Insta Link 2, the obsbot tiny2 AND the obsbot meet2. All have enough of a latency issue that I find it distracting. really loved that the insta link 2 had a desk view feature that I could trigger with a hotkey. Unfortunately it seems that any similar webcam is also going to be chalk full of useless ai features...
I have one of these and it does work well! No noticeable lag. This one struggles with the lighting set up I have though.
dont spend on a 4k for video conferencing... most dont support over 1080p. Cheap and cheerful has been the logi c920s but they kinda suck in low light. the newer logi brio 500's are great. if you're solving for audio, webcams generally arent the best. I use a speaker dock instead. the logi dock is suprisngly pretty good for as a conf speaker, music speaker, and a dock for most setups. Cameras might nicht come with a tripod included, but usually they allow to connect a tripod, same mechanism, same screw like for a camera. I still use several of Logitech C920 Pro HD; see [https://www.logitech.com/en-us/shop/p/c920s-pro-hd-webcam.960-001257](https://www.logitech.com/en-us/shop/p/c920s-pro-hd-webcam.960-001257) the spec says "**Tripod-ready universal mounting clip fits laptops, LCD or monitors**". It supports many resolutions, different encoding, different framerates. It's USB2 only, no 4k, no 60fps at highest resolutions though. If you are not after "extreme conditions" (very fast/slow/dark/bright; exotic resolutions, exotic color formats) then start with USB webcams. Depending on your used PC/board, you might need special flat cables (e.g. Aarduino, Mipi-CSI) and therefore special cameras - then you could look into something more "professional", where you could have a bigger influence (think of analogue cameras). A lot is about computer-vision, filters, neural-networks making use-cases possible. Very interesting for instance is surround-view, where the cameras will be equipped with fish-eye-lenses to achieve a bigger field-of-view. Check e.g. ebay or flee-markets and collect a few cameras!! Also have a look into stereo-cameras: RealSense and Luxonis.
Do you already know your use-cases? Can you describe your use-cases, please? What situations does the auto-focus not work as expected? Distance between object and camera very short (macro/micro)? Dark environments? Object moving fast? High resolution required, high frame-rate required? Would a fixed-focus work (e.g. if there are heavy vibrations)? As general purpose USB web cam I still use several "Logitech C920" cameras. Several use-cases required an infraret light source - there are also combos with IR-light included.
A normal modern USB camera is quite good and general purpose, the sensors are quite dynamic with respect to lightning. A small (USB-)camera, however, with a simple light source - imagine a small, bright LED... with the camera used in video meeting and you looking towards the camera, or close to it when the camera is close to a screen - you can get blinded easily. You might need to add a "diffusor" in front of it to make it less blinding; better might be an indirect light, or background light. Not sure you could order several popular USB cameras online, test then and send the less great ones back? I found some good simple cameras on flee-markets (using a tablet and USB-adapter for a quick test if they are still working).
