"There does seem to be a client limit at about 75-80 wifi devices whiche forced me to move iot devices to a separate wifi network."
I use aimesh without issue. 2 x rt-be92u. I also have an ax92u which was also a node. I removed that one as found didn't need 2 nodes. One router and one node. 10gb and 2.5gb ports. Use NAS with it. Also has dual WAN which was useful recently when ISP went off and used my iPhone 5g.
With aimesh, getting them properly placed is key. If at all possible, they should all be connected to your single main router. I have 5 - 3 zen Wi-Fi bt8s and two old rt-ax92. I may add a third ax92, but I'm not sure yet.
One of the best purchases I've ever made. I basically stopped playing my PS5 altogether until I bought the Portal the day it was released. Now I play all the time so I'm actually getting my money's worth out of my PS5 now. I much prefer handheld gaming, my Switch was almost never played on my TV, and the Portal gives me a handheld PS5. It definitely needs a good network though. It worked pretty well on my old Netgear XR1000 but that piece of junk crapped out on me. It doesn't work so well on my Unifi UDR7, which breaks my heart because it's an otherwise amazing router, but I inherited an old Asus AX92U and I set that up as a dedicated network for just my PS5 and Portal. I use a separate VLAN on the Unifi for the Asus and have my wifi channels set apart to keep congestion at a minimum. It works amazingly well with my setup, you'd never know it was being streamed.
I bought a pair of asus ax6100s about 3.5 years ago and they are both going strong. If/when I need to expand coverage even more I'll buy another pair because they are extremely easy to add to the network. I'll probably wait to upgrade to 7 until I get fiber (or high split) and need the extra capacity. https://a.co/d/bPoUsWV
I have a set of asus wifi 6 mesh and just swapped out the main router with a wifi 7 and relegated the old one to mesh work. Theoretically we shouldn't need repeaters based on the size of the house but there is something in the walls (old ass house) that seems to be interfering with wifi. I know not everyone feels tech savvy but paying an isp for their router is a ridiculous idea. Most people should have someone in their circle that can help them pick one out and install it. For anyone who may be confused about the above. I bought a 2 pack of asus AX6100 one of which was being used as the main router with the second one as a mesh AP. I replaced the main router with an asus be9700 and promoted the other back to mesh where needed.
Pull Ethernet or fibre if possible. If not then a wireless system like a pair of the Asus ax92u will do wonders. It's fast dedicated backhaul band has a very long range and works well.
I have 3 Google wifi mesh nodes along with an Asus ax92u wifi 6 router for sell if anyone is interested.
I have an Asus ROG AX11000, two AX86Us, and one AX92U. 4000Sq home, seems to work fine. I will be replacing them with Ubiquity equipment once I decide to upgrade.
Been more stable with better throughput than my GT-AX11000 and my RT-AX92U. Plus, my gateway and APs are discrete products, so I can upgrade my AP to a new generation without replacing everything and paying more $$ to upgrade.
I bought a spool of cat5e cable before my house renovation thinking that 1 gigabit would be enough forever. The cable turned out to be utter crap and barely skirting the edge. Wont negotiate above 100 mbit. After many-MANY hours of making new jacks and trying all kinds of magic I just bought 3 ASUS wifi 6 routers and the AImesh is actually perfectly fine. 600 megs in my living room via mesh and my computer is the only device with a gigabit connection as the ONT is in my office. Spent 150 euros on a 3 pack of ASUS routers. Works just fine until I move on to some Ubiquiti wifi7 mesh.
I like Asus since you don't have to go all-in with mesh on day one. Wireless backhaul is an issue with every mesh system. I started with an AiMesh Extendable Router and I can add anything from the Asus line-up if I need better coverage. And, yeah, that RT-AX86U Pro is pretty nice with its 2.5 Gbps port connecting to my Arris cable modem. This computer is wired to a LAN port and works very well, and the wi-fi around the house is very reliable.
