Definitely NOT the already outdated WR3000. Not the best choice for long-term use due to the small ROM (only 16 MB). WR3000H/P is the way to go. I just bought the latest modification, WR3000P: 128/512 MB ROM/RAM, 2.5G WAN, even PoE (WAN port only, not really necessary for a device in this class), and USB (though it’s only slow/weak USB 2.0 - forget about using it as NAS). The latest OpenWrt support is on the way (actively developed last month). Actually, it’s almost there. Cudy’s intermediate “no-signature check” firmware is based on OpenWrt 23.05.

second this; just got one. Spent a few weeks saving my BPI mini from a bricking but the Cudy updated with ease to native OpenWRT. do it.

I'm a big fan of the cudy WR 3000  It works flawless for me since 2.5 years.  There is an official openWRT image from them, but I would recommend the 'vanilla openWRT '  which is also very easy to install. Runs my home network with vlans and a wire guard server Also, it's only 40bucks

The oft-heard recommendation for people who seek inexpensive, power-efficient, and decent is Cudy WR3000 / 3000E / 3000H / 3000S. They are inexpensive and snappy. Bonus: you can replace the stock firmware with OpenWrt, which is infinitely more configurable than the stock firmware. One step up price-wise (and also OpenWrt-compatible) is Flint 2 by GL.iNet. Now that the manufacturer is rolling out Flint 3, they occasionally sell Flint 2 at a discount.

Cudy mesh routers are very good value if you're ok with stuff that just works reliably without bells and whistles or want to install OpenWRT. See their emulators if that level of configuration options is enough for you. If it is, they are really stable and good value.

I use the Cudy ax3000 series (the black and red ones) available on Amazon and there great, have no issues, WiFi 6 and wired backhaul, has a 2.5g wan connection too. WiFi speeds have been excellent as has reliability with no drop outs in 6 months of use. Likely get slated as there Chinese but they serve a purpose.
