Gl-Inet x3000 amazing for our use case on the road/vanlife .. x2000 might be enough if you don’t fancy 5G ..

I mean, it is. It's just got closed source drivers which the main project can't ship with. But the Spitz AX started out similarly (namely it's qualcomm modem) and now has a functional stable build including that part, so...

You're right. Had to do it yesterday on my x3000 I just purchased. Not sure why you're getting down voted.

That's an exception for Germany though. I travel a lot. At home, which is more comparable to "average city levels" I get 30-40ms, 300-400mbps down and ~100mbps up. In anything that's not a city you'll see worse. I've tried multiple modems, including the Spitz.

Playing with my T-Mobile (Germany:Telekom) Simcard from my Unlimited phone plan in a Glinet Spitz AX and have 10-15ms ping… and download about 1.000 mbit/s, Upload 100 Mbit/s…. i think that is enough ;)

I did the same but [with one of their Spitz routers](https://mouse.mousetrap.net/blog/2025-09-25-2025-mobile-data-upgrade.html). The router is hidden in the overcab storage and the 4x4 4G/5GNR + 2x2 Wifi2.4/5GHz on the roof is about the size of a yogurt cup. I've tried all kinds of wifi routers, openwrt and openwrt forks and IMO the GL.iNET wifi repeating functionality/UI is *fantastic* for mobile vanfolk.

Personally I'd just get something like the GL-X3000 as if takes 9-36v and does everything you need for home/portable multi link redundant connection use standard SMA antenna lines too so great for car deployments.

I use another GLi model (x3000 Spitz) mounted in my truck as well on a google fi sim card. On the roof i have a Fusion2Go Max low profile shark fin to maximize stealth. That Fusion2Go also amplifies cell signal for my phone in what would otherwise basically be a faraday cage box truck, and is hardwired into my router. I also have a flat mount starlink. It allows me the best of both worlds- max coverage from starlink that I can keep paused until necessary in the middle of nowhere, and cheap fast internet otherwise that still works when it’s too cloudy for starlink. Redundancy is important. I have the starlink on repeater extension on the gli, which is on failover for seamless network switching when one or the other is down.

I'm not going to comment on particular models, beyond that I'm happy with my Gl.inet X3000. For 6GHz you need wifi 6e but it's only neccessary if your 5GHz spectrum is crowded. The performance difference is not noticeable in my experience. 5GHz has a longer range too.

Wifi7 would definitely be overkill since the Q3 doesn't support it. 6e is also overkill unless you live in an area with highly congested 5GHz bands. Wifi5 or 6 are more than enough, as long as you have a decent wifi router/access point. I prefer brands with built-in VPN facilities, as they tend to have faster processors and more memory. More than happy with my Gl.inet AX3000.

As someone who just got done traveling to multiple places and staying for a week at those places, trying out a couple different travel routers at each place (GL iNet & Asus Go), I like the Asus the best. I love the form factor of the GL iNet, but after 6 hours or so it disconnected. I had to unplug it and plug it back in. Google mentioned something about the WAN settings (I’d have to find it). Whereas the Asus just worked. It never disconnected, worked fine in WISP mode and just regular eithernet. So now my go to is the Asus Go for my travel router.

Hi, I hade similar problem, I used Mikrotik than Ubiquity Edge X, but half year ago I have found GLI.net It’s OpenWRT by default and it cost similar to TP-Link. It have WireGuard, Tailscale and AddGuard as native app ;)

r/HomeNetworking • Why do TP-Link get a hard time from people, and routers made by Asus are often praised.... ->

Exactly. Don't waste money on these shitty consumer routers. The only decent ones are from gl.inet that come with openwrt. If you need more, look into opnsense on something like qotom or other minipc, mikrotik, ubiquity and separate access points.

Poor performance, very poor routing performance. And overpriced.
