GL.iNet has some good products. I ran their 4g version for 2+ years as my primary. Had to do some hacky stuff to disguise it but it worked. Three things: I had a retired Apple phone and changed the IMEI on the device to appear as an iPhone. Second was modifying the firewall to adjust the TTL values, so that downstream traffic wouldn't appear as coming through a router. Third, I used WireShark VPN. The CPU in the model didn't love that extra workload so it slowed down quite a bit. These were all done to take advantage of the unlimited data phone line package I had. This surely was against the terms of service. This version below has a battery, the X3000 I believe is identical without the battery. There aren't very many other consumer friendly 5g modems that I know if. You could also roll your own. Use an older tiny form factor PC to build a router, install OpenWrt on it, and use USB tethering, or a USB hub with Ethernet. You might want a smart plug to float the phone battery and reduce degradation. Gl-Inet x3000 amazing for our use case on the road/vanlife .. x2000 might be enough if you don’t fancy 5G ..
2.5gb capable wifi 6 gl.net router. So cheap for such speed lol. Making the most of download speed. Wanted to play pcvr over wifi and have a 2.5gb ethernet for my PC without dropping a fortune lol.
I set up a wire guard VPN on my gli.net router in under 5 minutes and it works great
Gli.Net are great units
I have one of these as well, but then have two unifi aliens setup in bridge mode for my actual wifi coverage. Best of both worlds.
If your apartment is not huge, a Gli.net brand router is what you’re looking for. Prices are decent, various speed options and vpn on board. I use one as a travel router for hotels
Ehh. I guess, but it took me less than 10 minutes to setup Wireguard server on my Cloud Max gateway, and then pass the credentials over to my gli.net. I have no doubt that the ubiquity travel router is easier to setup, but we’re talking about shaving off a few minutes compared to gli.net
