Have you considered asking to upgrade to the new Wifi 6E router provided by GFiber? All it takes is a phone call or chat. The range and throughput are pretty great, and it costs $0.

In KC.  Have 2gb plan and have the WiFi 6e router.  I have read if you upgrade to the 2gb plan they will also swap the router.  It would be cheaper to upgrade for a month or two, then buying a router.

I have 1GB service and in my area they stopped using the NEST gear many months ago. For 900 sq ft you only need the router (Google 6E - rebranded from Actiontec). It’s not full of bells and whistles settings wise, but it is better than the ASUS router (XT8) it replaced.

How did this work out for you? I also have the 6E router from google and I have been having the same issue with it for over a year. I have the same store issues and half my streaming services wont work.

Have you found a fix for you customers on the issue? I have been battling the same issue for over a year and there is no change.

I use wired back haul with the exact setup as yours but for whatever reason my guest network never has internet. GFiber has no clue, so that kind of sucks.

Yes, it definitely preforms better. We have the router and 2 extenders in a 3000 sq/ft home with wired backhaul. We have 1g and did the upgrade thru Google as our Nests were lackluster (to say the least). Still extremely limited with administrative tools/adjustments, and the main router is quite large... but performance wise, I regularly get > 1g up/down within 30 ft of the nodes via wifi on my iPhone 16. Wired is just as good. Obviously YMMV, and I will likely upgrade in the future to something with more customization when I have the budget, but unquestionably a step above the Nest,

It is definitely better, had to use it for over a week before I got my asus mesh system. If that’s your only option, it will perform just fine. Now, the gfiber app is trash and can’t manage your network for shit. If you just want to set it up and forget it, it’s the right router for you. If you need to manage and customize your network, then you need to look at other options

It's an issue with some PS5s and the WiFi 6E router. If you enable the guest WiFi and connect to that it'll probably work fine but it's just a weird workaround. Your best bet is to get a different router that isn't from GFiber, it'll save you a lot of headache. It's been a problem for a long time so don't expect the issue to be resolved in a timely manner if ever with those 6E routers.

The biggest complaint I have with it is it seems to be stuck on 80mhz channels in the 5ghz band. This may be directly related to the lack of capability in the app - there's no way (that I know of) to switch channels, or force the router to optimize to a better channel, pick channel bandwidth, etc. Specs for the device says it'll do 160mhz channels - but it doesn't for me (my personal router does, so it's not an interference issue).

Let me know how that goes. I have an installation appointment for Monday. I picked 1g for now to save a little as I'm currently paying 115 a month for 1gb. Then I want to get a 2.5gb nic for mtmy pc, then upgrade and see how 2gb is. Edit: I got it installed this morning. Tech said he ran out of the standard 1GB plan routers and gave me the 2G, GR6EXX0C model. 1 odd thing though, he said if I plug anything thing in using a "land line" it will make all the devices slow. Last I knew landline referred more to POTS, and not used to refer to ethernet.

You can. I have my 3D printer and a couple other things on reserved IPs.

Yes. I found a website that tested the fastest DNS servers near me, and I was able to set them as my preferred servers.

The Google Fiber Router is great. Seriously no complains and there’s no rental fees! tl;dr: currently sitting in front of $2k of Ubiquiti equipment working towards mainlining 10g fiber into a Dream Machine Pro Max but for real - the router is fine. Seriously it’s nothing to complain about.

The one you get with the 2 GB plan is great. If you're going 1 gig I'd say ubiquiti.
