Shorter distances and fewer impeding materials will make things much smoother. I had a line of sight connection with my old neighbor, my step brother. It was about 150 feet or so. I had a MikroTik Groove mounted inside each unfinished attic, and it did the job reliably. Details: A WiFi router was located in each building, and each router had a run of Ethernet going into the attic to attach to a Groove unit. The grooves were configured to communicate with one another. It cost a total of about $100 to set this up (cabling and used gear)
