I was in the same situation as you. I got a nighthawk R6700AX, no issues with it and I also segmented my network for IoT devices which was neat.
r/Spectrum • Should I buy my own wifi router? ->Just got installed yesterday and signed up Sunday for the 300/300 plan and it was going to be 18 dollars a month for the router rental. I bought a netgear R6700AX only 24 hours in and it seems fine so far.

r/Spectrum • Comparible routers ->Netgear R6700AX – Budget-friendly, WiFi 6, great for gaming and streaming with zero fuss. Linksys Hydra 6 – Sleek, fast, easy setup, and handles multiple devices like a champ. Both will save you cash long-term and give you way better performance than typical ISP gear. Once you switch, you won’t look back.
r/HomeNetworking • Looking to buy a new router ->Considering that you’re using a very old 802.11n-only device, an upgrade to a decent WiFi6 device will modernize you greatly. These can be very inexpensive. I picked up a used Netgear Nighthawk WiFi6 router for $30 and it covers my apartment perfectly, despite the 200 neighbors. Then, when the future arrives and it’s time to expand, I’d buy something new. WiFi7 prices are only going to fall faster and WiFi7 clients will become all that more common, so it will pay to wait. Network gear is one of those things that you can’t future-proof. The tech changes fast enough, and the prices change fast enough, and the client support lags enough to the point where it’s is more efficient to buy for today, and not for 24 months from now.
