i've had nothing but problems with my net gear wi-fi 7, after few weeks stuff buffers for split second, social media doesn't load immediately, i also have the net gear wi-fi 6 AX5400 router and works fine. seems walmarts website also has allot of complaints about wi-fi 7, and seeing that you actually have to have devices that use wi-fi 7, which technically none do, im going back to wi-fi 6, ether a new net gear router from amazon or MSI gaming routers or something.

Hi. I need some help finding a better WiFi solution for a UK university classroom. We teach Cyber Security so our IT department is very hands-off. They let us do our own thing and only provide us with an isolated 1Gbps direct internet connection for our classroom network. The classroom is 15m x 11m (165m^(2)) with three pillars down the centre. It has limited Cat6 Ethernet cabling to each of the banks of desks, connecting back to the internet connection via an unmanaged switch and a MikroTik HEX S router that provides the DNS and DHCP (also required by our FOG server, and the file sharing and software licensing server). Students mostly use our classroom laptops but often disconnect the Dell docking station monitor’s USB-C power/network/display cables to plug in their own personal devices. This disconnects them from the wired network, and they then rely on WiFi. There are 31 students in the class now, but we’re anticipating 60+ starting in September. They work a lot with IoT devices, networked by MikroTik Hap ac Lite routers, so the room is saturated with WiFi signals. We’re currently using one Netgear Nighthawk RAX50 in AP mode to provide WiFi network access for the classroom laptops. Personal laptops are connected to Eduroam WiFi via a totally separate AP on university wiring, but our classroom laptops are not permitted to join Eduroam. The Nighthawk is struggling to keep up with the traffic it must handle, which is why we need a better solution. Can you recommend a WiFi AP or Mesh WiFi AP system (Ideally ac and WiFi6) that is locally manageable (not reliant on a cloud or server-based application) and that can handle up to 100 simultaneous connections? Product must be available in the UK, and ideally under £300.

For your modem you can google approved modems for xyz (your ISP) and get a list and make sure it can handle your bandwidth and any upgrades you may get in the future. For your router I'd get a netgear or unifi. I'd personally stay away from TP-Link although that opinion is not held by all [https://www.pcmag.com/explainers/why-were-continuing-to-recommend-tp-link-routers-despite-security-concerns](https://www.pcmag.com/explainers/why-were-continuing-to-recommend-tp-link-routers-despite-security-concerns) . I've personally used the Netgear RAX54S which is a little long in the tooth these days but will get the job done. I've since upgraded to the UniFi Dream Router 7 (UDR7) which does have some advanced features, but has the price tag to match. I would advise wiring as much tech as you can. I might recommend the [https://store.ui.com/us/en/products/udr7](https://store.ui.com/us/en/products/udr7) it's wifi 7 and costs $280. It will work out of the box, but has a lot of ways to customize if you wish. I upgraded from a [https://www.netgear.com/support/product/rax54s/](https://www.netgear.com/support/product/rax54s/) because I wanted the features. I haven't tried to stream 4k video on either device, but I'm sure the UDR7 could do it.

Brand only matters for the ui you like. Ausu tends to have more controls, netgear is the more "user friendly", tplink is the half way point. Netgear tends to ship with netgear armor or what ever they call it. Good but annoying that once its on you pretty much have to do a reset to factory to get rid of it . Netgear and sus will let you fully control through the web ui and limited controls on a app so you'd have both. I never used the tplink app if they have one so I dont know about how it works. That said, your requirements seem to be wifi 6 and longevity. So really any netgear AFTER r8000 would do what you want. Netgear: R7xxx <-- no Rax50<-- yes So as only as a 2018 ax8; Ax8/ax12 Rax40, rax50, rax200, ect Asus: Rt-ACxx<-- no Rt-AXxx<--yes Rt-ax88u Gt-ax11000 Rt-ax92u Rt-ax58u

No reason not to try both. I'd try the Netgear first because it has better specs.

Hi! A couple years ago, my husband and I upgraded to 1GB internet and were told we needed a new router. We ran to Staples and got the most expensive one on the shelf and assumed it would be good. Spoiler - IT WAS NOT. We both work from home and experience frequent network drops, as well as excruitating speeds (100MB) vs the 1G hubby consistently gets on his wired-in desktop. So, we need a new router! I've read a lot of posts on this sub, and I'm not sure if it's possible for y'all to reach a true conclusion, but hopefully you can help <3 I want something we can plug in and ignore, that is at least 1GB capable, and that we don't have to replace anytime soon. House is flat 2500 sq ft, with the modem +router in the far corner (our office, where we need it), not centrally located. The opposite corner (our master bath) has more sketchy connection but that isn't super annoying as we aren't bringing laptops there & cell service is fine. Devices - desktop, several laptops, phones, tablets, smart home accessories (Nests, Fire stick, Roomba, etc). We don't really have a budget, as we're both terminally online and need this for work. I would rather pay for more for something that just works than cheap out and have to replace it in a 1-2 years. I'm not really interested in a mesh network, as I just want to set-up one thing and call it good, sorry 🙈 I've seen this sub recommend the ASUS routers a lot, but every post suggesting one has like 5 people commenting about how terrible that model is, and they suggest something else that other people think is terrible. Is there anything that most people agree will work? Here are some I've looked at: * [GL.iNet GL-BE9300 (Flint 3) ](https://www.amazon.com/GL-iNet-GL-BE9300-Tri-Band-High-Speed-Wireless/dp/B0FB8X43KJ) * [ASUS RT-BE82U Dual-Band WiFi 7](https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-RT-BE82U-Dual-Band-802-11be-Extendable/dp/B0D48GS6KB?th=1) * [ASUS RT-BE86U BE6800 Dual-Band WiFi ](https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-RT-BE86U-Dual-Band-Subscription-Free-Comprehensive/dp/B0DGZZJ996?th=1) * [ASUS RT-BE88U Dual-Band WiFi 7](https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-RT-BE88U-Dual-Band-Extendable-Performance/dp/B0D55SWRSM/?th=1)

We have the Nighthawk AX6 6 Stream AX5400. Reviews online overwhelmingly report the same issues we have with it. Open to the idea we just have the wrong nighthawk for our needs although my research seemed to indicate that ASUS would be better for our needs!

We did full troubleshooting with support, reset, updates and they basically just shrugged 😅 a lot of people report the same issue! It's a Nighthawk AX6 RAX50 (?)

Oh okay I understand what you mean now. With such a small space, almost any router is going to do the job for you. A lot of people will complain about Netgear security and connections, though, but I've never really had issues with them. I don't really like the Netgear rax10 because its antennas are small, and coverage isn't great for a large house, but that model might actually work just fine in your space. The Netgear rax54s is on sale on Amazon now for 83 bucks which is the lowest I've ever seen. I'd get that one.
