I returned the spectrum wifi7 router because there was absolutely no way to get 2 of my smart outlets to connect to it. I ended up getting the tplink archer be800 and it is amazing so far.
The ban is for new models. Existing models are grandfathered in, and new builds of the old models are still allowed to be imported from what I gathered. It is just the new ones with different hardware. I would not spend $10 a month of a router that you quite literally have no control over and is often garbage. I filed an FCC complaint because I wasn't getting the rated speed of 1Gbps symmetrical. Spectrum said it was my hardware. Once I replaced their router, speeds went up to within 10% instead of being around 400-600.
Only one SSID and the router picks if its 2Ghz or 5Ghz. Router is decided based on speed tier or other services(mobile seems up the guidelines at least one point). But all current ones just broadcast 1 SSID. But there are 4 types current, Wifi 5, Wifi 6, Wifi 6e and Wifi 7. To be honest, they probably wouldn't utilize the technologies in the 6e or 7.
So, I am in Staten Island and they just changed my router to Wifi7, Askey SBE1V1K. I do use one of their $3 pods to extend upstairs, as I have a very large house, 3 floors, and all my equipment is in the basement, always has been as I have my office etc down there. They finally gave me the 1G service. Do I get that? Yes, if I’m right near the router. As I go up floors the max I reach is 660 on the first floor and it’s iffy on the top floor, but it all works fine. Yes, I use all their equipment because when crap goes wrong, it’s their responsibility to fix it! I am too old to care lately…..
I sent mine back To many issues I didn’t have time to figure out
I had both routers a day apart... The speed test showed they max out at identical speeds.. The manager at the local Spectrum store told me the reason the system keep sending me the 6E version instead of a 7 is because I didn't at first opt for a Spectrum mobile line. Seems to be a internal requirement.
