Spectrum SAX1V1K's (AX3600) are around $30 on eBay. 2GB RAM, 500MB flash plus an additional 4.5GB at end of the eMMC. Did I mention it got OpenWRT support ? Initial flashing is a PITA though, need to take it apart to get to the serial port.
Only one SSID and the router picks if its 2Ghz or 5Ghz. Router is decided based on speed tier or other services(mobile seems up the guidelines at least one point). But all current ones just broadcast 1 SSID. But there are 4 types current, Wifi 5, Wifi 6, Wifi 6e and Wifi 7. To be honest, they probably wouldn't utilize the technologies in the 6e or 7.
That's funny. I'm out of stock of 7s and have to use 6 or 6e. The 7 sux, btw.
From what I can tell out in the field. The disconnects are because of a faulty WAN. While the inconsistent wired speeds come from the LAN. Of course, it isn't with every one of them. But I definitely seen more issues with the wifi7 than I have with any other routers recently. Personal I believe the best router Spectrum offers is the wave2/wifi5 followed by the 6e, 6, then 7. With that said, I still recommend people buy their own router or mesh system. I prefer to use my own purchased system. Rather than any of the "free routers" I can get from the company.
I had the opposite experience - the TP Link 802.11AX router has a weaker signal than the Spectrum 802.11AX router. In fact it performs similar to my decade old 802.11AC router. Barely reaches the master bedroom, where the Roku now gets a “Fair” connection instead of “good” or “excellent”, and my cellphone now drops connection sometimes
The spectrum 802.11ax router actually worked better (stronger signal) than my tp link 802.11ax router
