r/VanLifeUKNone starlink Internet router?

This is for a narrowboat but same principles apply!  I have been avoiding Starlink for obvious Elon reasons but also work from home and need great internet. I've also heard Starlink uses a lot of battery power. My current setup is the Teltonika RUTX14 CAT12 dual sim router with the Poynting XPOL 4x4 PLUS antenna, one sim on EE and one on Three. Router and Antenna used came out to about £320 then you can get Three's network on ID mobile for £10-15pm and another unlimited sim from another provider for similar. EE is expensive usually but Black Friday deals each year make it worthwhile. Having dual sim allows the router to automatically switch to the one with the best signal and covers most black spots. Cables all come through the mushroom vents so no holes needed. Used to have the TPLink MR600 + Poynting 2x2 antenna which was good to start with but only got 1-6mbps now getting 30-60mbps in the same terrible signal location. Best bet is get the best antenna first then upgrade your router for higher CAT (max speed) and better signal aggregation.

This 100% ☝️, sage advice here Teltonika Routers are the gold standard for mobile internet don’t require 240v and are built to work in all environments (millspec) The RUT 50 is best option for 5g , I’m still on a RUT 4g but generally it’s perfect , I play pretty much online only , star link is silly money
