I have Virgin Media with their superhub in modem-only mode. A couple of cheapish Asus routers in mesh mode, one wired to the hub, the other connected to the "master" via a long ethernet cable. My PC is wired to the "master" Asus node. Rock solid wifi throughout the house and all good with both VR and Moonlight on the other side of the house.

I’ve got a Virgin Hub 3 in my living room (Virgin M350), and in the living room everything is fine ,*no issues*. But in my bedroom, which is only about 4–5 metres away, there are spots with no WiFi at all. I even tried a used Virgin mesh device, but it made *zero difference*. I’ve been looking at a couple of recommended second-hand routers on eBay like the ASUS RT-AX56U and ASUS RT-AC68U  which are very cheap used. But I’m not sure if they’re still good or just too old / dated. What do you folks think? Are those decent picks to pair with the Hub 3 + Virgin M350, or is there something better I should go for? (preferably under £150)

Already tried moving the hub (as much as I could since the Virgin “engineer” barely gave any cable). It’s definitely the shitty Virgin hub; never had these issues with the BT one on the same setup. BT (and others) only offer ~60 Mbps here though, while Virgin goes up to 1 Gb (I’m on 350 Mbps). Ordered a cheap used TP-Link EX230 Wi-Fi 6 hub to test. Will update.

Just grabbed an Apple AirPort Extreme A1521 for £30 from CEX and put the Virgin Hub in modem mode. So far it’s working a treat ,getting the full 350 Mbps in my bedroom, which has thick old walls and used to barely hit 100–120 Mbps (some days it was a total Wi-Fi dead zone), even with the Virgin Mesh plug. Honestly, for a decade old router, it’s ridiculously powerful. Don’t think the lack of 6 GHz matters at all for my 350 Mbps package. Really happy with it so far!

What’s your router? I’ve found the Hub 5 to be an unbelievable step up from the 3

My virgin router is pretty unreliable, it's a hub 3.0 and often connection is not very good - the problem is much more noticeable with the tapo cctv cameras, it's often stuttery, or takes forever to load, it's really frustrating - I have a ubiquiti access point in my room to help with signal upstairs. Is it worth getting something like a Asus rog gaming router for £200, or is it overkill? I did manage once to fix the camera situation by disabling sMaRt channel optimisation and setting my own channels however this has not really worked anymore, when I did fix it, all the cameras were buttery smooth and fast to load. There is a lot of devices on the network, so maybe the Virgin router is struggling. I tried to set the channels again today however all channels seem to poor quality on 2.4ghz signal, I do live next to lots of houses. It I was to get a better router, should I set the virgin router to modern mode or the access point mode, I would prefer if the new router did all the thinking, since it would definitely have a much better cpu, I'm not sure which option is better and what the differences are. Also, for the new router, does it need to be connected directly to the router, or could the new router be connected to a switch which leads to the virgin router as that's where my best ethernet cable is located. Thanks, also my Internet speed is only 350mbps, so perhaps any cheaper routers would be better? I'm not sure.

Another vote for replacing the hub 3. It is terrible.

The hub3 is notoriously, woefully shite. Get your own router. You could genuinely spend £40 on a router and have a better experience than the hub3 in router mode.
