can you get the xb8 in your area? it is a decent upgrade from the xb7 as it has wifi 6e. it also has a 2.5g lan port you can use on your wired PC that will give you the full 2100 speed your internet has to offer. if your pc has 2.5g lan

Honestly, Roger’s Xfinity gateway is a much more powerful router. It is Triband WiFi 6E and has 4x4 for all 3 bands. I am able to get pretty impressive speed with speedtest. I would not recommend using your old Deco x30.

They're fine. The XB7 has fewer complaints than the XB8 or XB10 and the techs will tell you that the older ones (XB7) are more reliable. Whether that's true or not, who knows. But XB7 and/or XB8 are good. I stopped using it because I like messing with stuff and wanted an OpnSense box as the router and Ruckus access points, but before that I was using the XFi gateway as-is.

If all you have is one Xfinity device then you have an Xfinity Gateway which is a combo router/access point. If it's working fine I wouldn't upgrade it. If you need to upgrade then I'd just get a newer XFi gateway which is all in one. Buying a modem + router is gonna cost $250+, then they won't really help you if you have issues.

If you have unlimited data depending on your region you have to use xfinity's equipment otherwise pay a $35 a month charge to use your own equipment and have unlimited data. If you have an xb8 those work perfectly fine. If you want faster Wi-Fi you can put the xb8 in bridge mode and still get the unlimited data and then just connect your room wireless router.

I’d see if they would upgrade you to the XB8. Tri-band, supports MoCA 2.5, if not, put it in bridge mode and buy your own router like I just did. Their ports won’t open up all the way for me for my brothers PS5. I just went and got a ASUS ROG Rapture GT-98 pro WiFi 7 router. Best move I ever did. The XB8 also has a 2.5g port. Allowing you to get multi-gig speeds if you ever upgrade speed.

Nah as long as you can run hardwired, that’s always best. But second best is going to be MoCA. Pretty simple stuff. But yeah you don’t need to worry about it. Anyway, even if they don’t upgrade you to the XB8 (because you don’t have gig speed), I’d still put that XB6 in bridge mode, and invest in a ~$200-$250 WiFi 7 router, and run your Ethernet cable out of the router that you would buy. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that XB6/XB8 has got some kind of extra firewall or something enabled that you can’t turn off. That’s why I just bought my own router. Even the XB8 gave me problems, so it is strictly a modem now (bridge mode).

Modem goes in bridge mode. Don't expect a huge difference in range or performance, XB8 actually has a decent Wifi 6E chipset. I hope so, I have the xb8 from xfinity and it is terrible.

I have Xfinity. I put their Xfi Modem/Router in Passthru mode. I use a Ubiquiti Dream Machine Pro for my router. All my devices use PiHole for DNS. So, it isn’t a problem. I was using my own Modem for years. But, after I upgraded to 2 GB service, they would not support the speed on my Modem, even though it was capable. So, I had to use their modem/router. I only agreed to update my service if I could use it in Passthru mode.
