Clip-style earbuds are great for exactly that use case. Super comfy, no ear fatigue, and you can actually hear coworkers without constantly pulling them out. Downside is weaker bass and less isolation, so they’re not ideal if you want immersion.
Good options to check out:
Sony LinkBuds – very natural transparency, great for office use
Bose Ultra Open – pricey but super comfortable and clear
Soundcore AeroFit – more budget-friendly, decent sound
I really like using Soundcore’s AeroFit 2. The base model works really well too, both wrap around your ears and it’s an open ear version so you can still hear your surroundings without transparency.
I researched this for quite a while because I wasnt happy with my Shockz OpenRun. They never fit right, sound like crap and are annoying to wear around the house. They also don’t really work with long hair. Not to mention you have to put them really loud while riding.
I liked the open concept of just a „hook“ on the ear, where I barely feel them, hear my surroundings without it being bone conducting.
I bought the Shockz OpenFit and found out while testing them that there’s no way to adjust the volume so I sent them back.
I then got the Soundcore AeroFit and am really happy with it. The brand behind it is Anker. They were under 100€ and are really comfortable.
Soundcore Sport X20s are a great in ear option designed to stay in your ear. Fully customizable EQ settings but they sound great out of the box. They are IPx68 so should be fine during gym sessions. They also have transparency and ANC modes that you can switch between using the app.
I also use the Soundcore Aerofit 2 open earbuds and they are pretty decent. I use them for the gym, but also at work so that I can still hear my coworkers talking. The downside with the Sport X20s is that in order to use transparency mode you have to have both earbuds in. I usually like to just have one earbud in while I'm at work. Even with just one earbud, the X20s are just a bit too noise isolating in situations where I want to hear from all angles while still having music.
Overall Soundcore has really impressed me with their product lineup, but I would still opt for their higher end products versus their entry level products. If you can buy pre owned or refurbished, you'll save a good amount of money. They have an eBay store specifically for their refurbished products if you're interested.
