I don’t think it can be overstated that the design and fit is the selling point. ... behind the ears are secure, but give me a lot of discomfort after not that much wear, especially when wearing glasses."

"It feels like I’m in a surround sound theatre"

"For an open earbud the sound also is outstanding."

"First off sound quality, the sound quality is phenomenal but its not just ordinary sound. The sound is so hard to explain its like a movie theater is constantly following you around everywhere you go. Because its open and not inside your ear I feel like the sound is more natural and feels like you can touch the sound rather it being locked up in your head. ... I give these a 5 star because of sound and comfort. ... Yea i’m so glad I took the risk and got them I pretty much wear them all day it’s nice to have music following you around wherever you go ... the quality is just like amazing I feel like i’m in a movie or something. ... For me these are truly phenomenal in sound in every way. The sound is so good it freaks me out sometimes. These are really balanced earbuds tho not bass heavy."

"mine is useless on Phone calls. ... this has to be deal breaker on 300£ pair of buds."

"Calls are pretty abysmal. ... Sound quality is surprisingly good, but the mic is bad for calls. ... I use these at work and calls happen all the time. They don’t work well for that. ... I’m constantly having to speak up and repeat things, where my Powerbeats have no problems. ... Reading a serial number to a tech over the Bose is a NO GO haha."

"The product quality is unpredictable. ... I have decided to warranty return 2 pairs due to connectivity or quality issues. ... 1st pair, they were randomly rebooting every few hours. It was really annoying. ... They were also disconnecting and reconnecting to my phone and announcing the phone name sporadically for no reason. ... 2nd pair, the left channel had an audible hiss/buzz, and I was NOT living with a fault of that sort for a pair of AU$400+ earphones."

"The connection is terrible ... after two months of use, they regularly cut out/disconnect requiring me to put them back in the case, wait a while and they will be able to reconnect, ideal when you're on the go and want to listen to music."

I have the Bose open earbuds and I was skeptical at first, I love being immersed in music and thought open earbuds wouldn't satisfy my music needs but honestly it's nice listening to music and still being semi aware of surroundings. I will say that if you want deep base these aren't it. I watch concerts on YT while I do cardio and need the deep base and immersion to stay pumped, I can't use these, I revert back to my over ear NC headphones. Every other activity though, they work great!

Ok I’ve been using both of these buds for 2 months now because I couldn’t decide without a real world case study so I bought pairs of each on eBay for around $150 each. For the record I am NOT an affiliate marketer or anything like that. This is not a paid review or anything. I just had a hard time deciding so I figured I would try them both out. SPOILER: It has been REALLY TOUGH to decide which pair I want to keep because they are so similar and both have good and bad things about them. Background on me and my usage. I am very particular about audio and comfort. Was looking for a lightweight pair of bud style headphones for me to use while working outside, around the house, quick errands, or in the office but wanted to make sure they had good to great audio quality. I listen to a ton of audiobooks as well. Here is what I did: I rated several items on a 0-5 scale based on direct comparison of these 2 models. 0 just means it doesn’t have that feature or requires an additional purchase (wireless charging case for Bose for example). 1 means it is a yes/no answer or something that performed poorly. 5 means it is damn near perfect. Bose Battery - 3 Phone Calls - 3 Multi-Point Pairing - 1 (yes) Audio Quality (Music) - 5 Audio Quality (Podcasts/Books) - 3 Wireless Charging - 0 Smart Wear (Buds automatically detect which ear) - 0 Comfort - 3 Transparency - 3 Volume - 4 Physical Buttons - 1 (yes…I prefer physical buttons) Total Score 26 Shokz Battery - 5 Phone Calls - 2 Multi-Point Pairing - 1 Audio Quality (Music) - 3 Audio Quality (Podcasts/Books) - 4 Wireless Charging - 1 (Yes) Smart Wear (Buds automatically detect which ear) - 1 (Yes and this is a very cool feature that is pretty nice) Comfort - 4 Transparency - 3 Volume - 3 Physical Buttons - 0 Total Score 27 As you can tell, they are VERY VERY CLOSE. I’ve even pulled both pairs out while writing this post to listen to the same song and a passage from a book I am listening to in order to make sure I still feel the ratings are accurate 😂. The battery life is a massive difference. I worked outside and around the house for 10 hours Friday and the Shokz didn’t need to charge. I worked outside yesterday wearing the Bose for 5 hours and at about the 4 hour mark the left bud died and the right one followed suit about 20 minutes later. Both options had the Dolby/Immersive Audio turned on which does create a difference in the battery life but it cuts the Bose battery life in half and didn’t noticeably affect the Shokz’ battery life. I hadn’t noticed a big difference in the comfort of the 2 until yesterday as well. I never needed to mess with the Shokz but had to adjust the Bose a couple times where my ears got a little uncomfortable where they were sitting. The audio of the Bose for Music is noticeably better than the Shokz but the opposite is true on Podcasts and Audiobooks. It’s on par with their other buds and headphones. This is the only part of the headphones’ comparison where the Bose stood out and made me hesitate on selling the pair I’ve been using. Bose requires a wireless charging case that costs $50-$100 if that feature is important to you (it isn’t for me but is nice to slap it on my charging pad on my desk when I’m not using them). Be warned neither are very good for phone calls. Both had people on the other end of my calls telling me they had a hard time hearing me whenever there was any significant background noise. Maybe this will be addressed with a firmware update going forward but both of these are lagging the other headphones made by both of these companies in this regard. I think I’m going to keep the Shokz and sell the Bose because of the comfort and battery factors.

I love these open ear buds. I have one ear that will not hold an in ear bud. Doesn't matter what tip size and I've tried heaps of buds, including those with wings. I also wear glasses and find open ears that hold over the top of the ears are a pain both figuratively and literally. I absolutely love these. They're so comfortable I've forgotten they're on many times. The sound is amazing for how they sit. It's better than in ear buds from a few years ago. The voice announcement volume of the battery charge, call and connection stuff is too low to hear on mine. I'd have liked a volume control for that in the app. The equalizer control in the app should be more granular, The microphone performance is poor and although an attempt was made withe the firmware update I don't see any real improvement. Call quality is not a priority for me and I also have great ANC over ear headphones for when I want to block stuff out or have amazing sound. These earbuds are for the rest of the time and have been the most satisfying purchase I've made in a long time.

**First**, I do believe that there are a lot of benefits of staying connected and present when playing (more thoughts below). If you **MUST**, anything open form, and my overall recommendation is the Shokz OpenDots One based on (a) relative sound quality over other open form earbuds, (b) comfortable and stable fit, (c) mic quality, and (d) ability to use while still hearing enough of outside world and wearable with sunglasses. Further details below. As noted, while not ideal IMO, if you are looking for outdoor earbuds that still allow environmental awareness, my go-to recommendation is the relatively new Shokz OpenDots One. They clip on the outside of your earlobe (looks like an earring). It holds on quite well (I’ve done the shake head test, and also use them extensively on my e-board, and have never lost one, have only ever come off when I am changing a shirt). They can be worn without getting in the way of hats or headbands and importantly when wearing eyeglasses or sunglasses, have decent-ish sound quality (of course, in-ear buds are better), and allow you to hear your surroundings. I prefer them to the Bose Open Ultras, which are more expensive and have maybe the WORST mic quality of any earbuds I have owned. Other pluses of OpenDots One over Bose Open Ultra: wireless charging, better case (secures shut better), less fussy charging (often the Bose Ultras will not fully connect, and you will unknowingly not charge one earbud), iffy connections sometimes with IOS devices (will randomly disconnect and reconnect where the Shokz OpenDots very rarely disconnects), and better total play time on a single charge (Bose has a horrible 7 hours). Another good option is the Oladance OWS 2, which is a good value for the price. However, these go OVER your earlobe, and if you wear glasses (in particular, thicker frames), the fit can be tricky, and I’ve had instances where I’ve worn them on my bike, and my helmet strap has jostled them and sent one earbud flying off. I’d recommend the OWS 2 over the more expensive OWS Pro, as the OWS 2 arguably has better sound and definitely fit better if you wear glasses (or need to wear sunglasses). Still, the earlobe clip versions are the best for when you want to wear eyewear. Also, the OWS 2’s standard case does not charge on its own (needs to be plugged in), and you need to purchase separately a case that can charge on the go…and this case is enormous (won’t fit in normal pant pockets, will need to go old school JNCO jeans to fit). Another option is going the bone conduction route, but honestly, these tend to tickle my inner ear at louder volumes, and the sound isn’t the best. As for pros, nothing beats the IP ratings of bone conduction, and they stay on quite easily as they go around the back of your head and kind of press onto the side of your head to stay on, while also clipping over your year. The Shokz Openrun line is pretty much at the top of most runners lists. I still have mine for when I was still running marathons, and I still keep them for office calls, as the Shokz mics are very good. The sound, however, of *any* bone conduction headphone is going to be materially inferior to just about *any other type of earbud*, although the relatively newer Shokz Openrun Pros are a vast improvement over the earlier iterations, and from what I understand over their competitors. Another plus, is that bone conduction has pretty minimal (read: no) bleed through leakage in terms of sound. With that said, as a glasses wearer and someone who needs sunglasses to properly see during any sunny day, the vibrations caused by the bone conduction tech can shake my glasses and create a funky sensation if not positioned 100% correctly. Also, I did notice that when I used the bone conduction headphones too much, I would get very itchy ears. Once I moved to open earbuds, these itchiness issues subsided. Finally, I do think there are a lot of benefits to staying connected to tennis. As you progress, you want to do everything you can to improve your reaction time to shots and the connection to the ball. Andy Roddick talks extensively about the minute cues that elite players will react to, which is why he dislikes auditory disruptions (but candidly, I feel sometimes both pro players and rec players are sometimes too sensitive to any minor external distraction). Still, you can pick up a lot based on auditory cues, e.g., on the serve (spin v. flat), topspin groundstrokes, or a mishit that can unexpectedly land short for an unintentional drop shot. For this reason, some players will use dampeners to take mitigate these auditory cues. For me, I like the softer thump with the RTP dampeners, but it is a nice plus that it disguises my spin serve (where I’ve tried my best over time to make my spin v. flat serve less obvious, or where I may do a low velocity spin serve but want to disguise the extent I am spinning the ball). I know that some players also like this auditory feedback to feel more connected to their shot. Thus, I typically only listen to anything or music when I am practicing my serves or running conditioning drills. Generally, I won’t even listen to music when I am running drills with a ball machine or against the wall. If anything, and you are playing outdoors, just bring a long a small portable speaker (JBL and UA makes those inexpensive clip on speakers). You are much more likely to still stay connected to the ball and to your opponent. Also, while a remote risk, I can only imagine if you didn’t hear your opponent call out and you proceed to blast a winner or OH in their direction. Even if it was inadvertent and you might have not heard it in time regardless of the earbuds, I am pretty sure that most players would be pretty pissed that you blasted a ball at full speed in their direction and would perceive it as being caused by the earbuds. I don’t like it much when a player who is notorious for not paying attention blasts a shot to my body after an “out” call, and I can only imagine how I would react if they were wearing earbuds, open or not.

I had the same problem with airpods always falling out, until I bought a set of EarBuddyz ear hooks. They stay right in, the only annoyance is you have to take them back off the airpods to charge them. I used to run with Bose open ear buds, and they also fit great, but they broke down after about 3 months of consistent use. Way too expensive a product for it to be so flimsy.

I have Bose Ultra Open Ear buds. They're a little pricey but they're very comfortable and I can still hear my surroundings while out walking. They stay in place and the sound quality is excellent, especially compared to the Pixel Buds A series I had for years. There's probably cheaper alternatives but I've struggled with finding a good fit across many types of headphones and this design works well for me.

OMG try the Bose Open Earbuds Ultra! I hate having my small drums hurting and not being able to hear anything around me. I used to buy only flat buds because the ones that go in the ear eventually start aching. These go in the bottom cup of your ear, near the drum but not IN it, and wraps around your lobe. I can still hear and I barely feel them! Best purchase ever! Worth every penny! I even use em while talking on the phone. I have always had issues with people hearing me on the phone, idk why. I thought the same at first and love Bose, but slowly realised they are awful. The connection is terrible, after two months of use, they regularly cut out/disconnect requiring me to put them back in the case, wait a while and they will be able to reconnect, ideal when you're on the go and want to listen to music. In case you're wondering if it's the battery, it's not. The above issues occur even with both the case and earbuds are at full charge. I have unpaired and paired them to resolve but no luck. The microphone is appealing also. However, they look and fit great, they say Bose and are a great fashion piece. Another positive note is the sound, in libraries and at night when everyone is asleep they sound amazing so for those reasons, I'm well glad I bought them. Good luck!

I have both of them as well and I'd add one point to the review: Audio latency on initial playback: \- Bose: 1 \- Shokz: 4 The bose have anywhere between half a second to a second delay when audio playback starts. For things like phone notifications, language learning or navigation prompts that means you miss half of the first word up to the full word unless you're already playing some music or other audio in the background. The Shokz have a minimal delay as well but - in my tests - don't swallow any of the audio. (tested on an iPhone 15, MacBookAir M2 as well as a Windows11 PC)

And since they clip to your earz they are very comfortable.

I've had the Bose ultra open buds for about a year or so now. I love them, but the call thing is mildly annoying. Basically, for it to have a chance at handling the call well, they need to be in stereo mode before you take the call. Switching during the call doesn't help and even then it's not 100% gonna work, but it might lol Other than that, they're solid enough, definitely room for improvement

Got Bose open air earbuds on sale a couple months ago, they really match my needs: they don't block outside sounds, while staying loud enough even with cars passing by, and they don't fall off. Also the button interface is more convenient and reliable than the touch interface my previous earbuds had.

They wrap around the rim of an ear with a little gap for the cartilage and a gentle spring, so I can wear them comfortably for many hours. They do put weight, small as it is, in an unusual place, so for a couple weeks I felt as if I still wear them for a while after taking them off 😅

The total score might be close. But, for me, there are two areas where the Bose wins big. The sound quality and buttons. I’ve had the Bose Ultra Open for the last 2 months. Took it on numerous long runs outside. Trails, roads…..They sound amazing for what they are. I tried the ultra dots a few times. But, could never get over the sound quality difference. I’m totally fine with them not being interchangeable. I’m used to that in my other earbuds. The wireless charging is a plus though. But, if sound quality and physical buttons are priority, the choice is easier.

I love them for outdoor activities. Night and day comapred to the others as these allow ambient sound to be clearly heard. They stay in the position and at first a tad strange feeling as they make slight pressure, but after 5 mins I couldn’t tell I had them on if there was no music playing. Some reviews say these don’t perform so well for phone calls. I don’t care as that’s not the reason why I bought them.

So, like the title says, this will be a review of the Bose QC Ultra Open earbuds. Sound - As a fanatic of openears, the sound in this is obviously not as good as ones that go into your ear canal. However, I am someone who needs the open experience as I just do not like in ears. That being said, the sound on these is fantastic. There is a clarity here that I find tough to find even in in-ears. These are truly top tier in the sound department. Comfort - A lot of people rave about the comfort of these, however BE AWARE if you have bigger ears, you will feel a pinching sensation on your ear that got quite uncomfortable after about 2.5 hours of listening. If you can make the fit work, I am sure they're comfortable however I frankly hated that pinching sensation. The style is neat and more low-key, but on my end, I just couldn't get to liking these in the comfort area. Connection - This area is a weird one. They were very tough to connect, and took some troubleshooting. Luckily I only had issues the first time, and no static noise like on the normal Bose Ultra in-ears. One area that annoyed me was there is a white hissing noise that occurs every now and again, that almost kinda sounds like they are trying to find a signal. Switching from music to youtube also for whatever reason would cause an audio glitch. Connection wise, not great. Case - No issues, honestly felt better built than the Ultra in-ears. However I did notice I dont believe there is a way to see your battery percentage for the case. Not a huge issue but one to note. Features - They don't leak sound much at all, and that is literally about it. You do not get multi-pairing (this is subject to change as Bose says it is coming soon). You also get immersive audio which is good with some songs, however undeniably gimmicky. It really drowns out certain songs. It also drains the battery like 30% faster. Personally didn't find any use in it except for action movies maybe. No wireless charge, instead you have to buy a specific case from Bose for wireless charging if you want that feature. Price - Boy, this is a doozy. This can be summed up in one sentence. These are not, by any means worth $300 + tax. They just aren't. Some people will buy these and love them, however if you are considering, PLEASE note that there are much better options that are cheaper. The fact that these are the same price as their flagship is kind of insane and honestly a terrible marketing strategy. These should be $150-$200 openears. In their current state without wireless charging and multi-point, you could realistically drop $50 off that price. As a fan of openears, these are frankly a cash grab by Bose. Rating - 3/10, simply due to the sound. EDIT: Forgot to add, they have snapdragon sound. You need to have a specific phone that supports it, but if you do, then that is something to consider as well.

I got the same model as earbuds. They claim to be multi point bluetooth. Multi bluetooth means that you can listen to two devices simultaneously. When asked why I wasn't able to, they said,'You can switch from one device to another. That is multi bluetooth'. That is just bluetooth. Fake labeling 🏷 . I have had other products by them. They do have multi bluetooth, simultaneously sound. Don't understand why they decided to go down hill now.

I haven’t tested their call quality yet, only their music. The one thing I did notice with music playback is the AeroClip are more sensitive to their rotation than other clip-on earbuds I’ve used. Rotate them too much up or down and they get quieter. I can’t just pop them on and quickly listen to something, I have to fiddle with them for a bit. The C30i earbuds from Soundcore are more forgiving. They sound terrible, but I can just pop those on and go. Same with the Bose QC Open earbuds. However, those ones took more effort to clip on due to their rubber that rolls out. I’m not sure if I’m going to keep these due to their rotation. The cutout for the drivers is only in one area, about the bottom 1/4 of the circular driver. Had Soundcore made the cutout half the circle, I think the rotation wouldn’t be an issue. As of now, I’ll pop these on and listen to music, then end up adjusting the right one for a bit.

Had mine for 2 weeks now. My opinion … - loud gym environment: no I don’t think these will suit. I personally think gym needs good ANC. I went for a run yesterday wearing them, 10/10. Perfect for running. Got music and fully aware of surroundings. And they don’t fall off ! - comfort: 10/10 ! So good. - call quality: is average and the volume level is not loud enough. This is my major complaint as I use for work all day. I hope this can be adjusted with a firmware update. Hope this helps

Just bought the AirPod ANC and also have the Airpods Pro 2 for a while (and bose ac comfort ultra 2, bose open ear ultra). Airpods ANC vs Airpods Pro 2 -- just orange vs apple Audio wise - In a quiet room environment, AirPod ANC sounds better (weird), it should be on par but maybe the form factor makes it a more live and open stage feeling. - Street enironment, Airpod ANC still works very well (if Airpods pro2 eliminates 85%, airpod anc also does 65 to 70%). Sound quality so similar. - Extremely noisy environemnt (low frequency) - Sound quality is also similar, surprisingly for an open ear, this cancel so much noises.. - Extremely noisy environment (mixed frequency) - Airpod pro 2 beats it, because of the noise cancellation). But Airpods ANC is an open ear design, so probably not fair to compare to airpod 2, it probbaly depending on your use case, comfort preference, and ambience preference. If you after more like a live band environment with sometimes, ability to cancel noise, this is awesome. (sound wise bose ultra open ear is awesome but very inconvenient). But if you are after an open ear design, this is probbaly the best so far in the market... Hope it helps. Oh also, the small form factor is impressive. Although try it first, i find the plastic form just a bit slippery (vs airpod pro 2), it doesnt fly around for my case, but defeintiely move a little bit more when doing some shadow boxing (but still stays, but you can feel it moves a little bit but no impact to sound). Hope it helps, anyway, i am a bit impressed, initailly was just thinking this is another bad old airpods, but I am totally wrong!

Ap4 has more bass and more versatile (added capability on noise cancellation), and quite musical, but no volume control (a bit annoying). Bose has a very open design, nice and open sound (less bass). It’s a good one if you have a good use case but rather inconvenient to use with Apple devices, it has multi point now, but just not as seamless experience vs Apple. Say if I can roll back time, I would have just bought AP4 ANC, as much as Bose is not bad, but to me a wireless earphone purpose should be 1. Sound quality 2. Versatility 3, convenient, then I think Apple balance it pretty well

I own a pair of the Bose open earbuds and love them, can wear them all day comfortably. All other wireless in ear earbuds never fit me and constantly fall out. $300 is steep but I’ve lost/broken a couple other pairs from them falling out and I think of the $300 as the price I pay for not having to replace another cheaper pair.

It could be your ears or you just have them in wrong. For me these are truly phenomenal in sound in every way. The sound is so good it freaks me out sometimes. Shokz Openfit are better then the Bose Ultra open earbuds IMO. I just got the the diamond 60th edition and will be sending them back. The sound on the Shokz is better hands down. And yes, you cannot makes calls with the Bose, complete joke, useless, really dissapointed. I bought into all the reviews about how much better the sound was compared to Shokz. That is not my experiece, i went thru all kinds of genres of music and Bose just did not cut it. I messed with settings and equalizer and nothing. The bass was weak, switching to Max bass i noticed little change. Other settings like mids and highs responded to chages as expected but the bass was just not punching. On the Shokz when adjusting bass on equalizer you really notice the differece. I had been waiting for sale of $250. I don't see how these justify a price higher then $150. You can get Shokz openfit for $150 or less with discounts or coupons if you're patient which i am. I got my Shokz for like $130 from Shokz directly. So what the heck Bose! $300? Really?

APP are neutral mediocre at best. I have all those and more, the Sony XM5 and Bose can sound better if you have a musical ear with some training. Bose Ultra Immersive mode is newbie to sound mode, they sound impressive for pop but do not stand up to critical listening. The Denon Perl Pro is actually the best sounding if you Can get the calibration correct. It’s not for beginners who think APP are the best you can get lol.

I'd be looking at the Bose Quietcomfort earbuds or Bose Ultra Open-Ear earbuds. Both have unique designs for fitting into the ears. I use the quietcomfort2 earbuds for cycling and working out - the rubber wingtips can be customized to fit your ears so they lock in to place. They even sell extra small / extra large wingtips/earbud tips if your ears are too far out of normal spec. The Ultra open earbuds have a unique clip that hooks onto the earlobe

Lol, well I don't know of any earbuds that waterproof. But I have certainly biked through some nasty rainstorms where my Bose QC-Ultra earbuds and myself got drenched without any issues, but I would be concerned about dropping them in a toilet (for many reasons) My vote would still be the bose QC2 for $148 on eBay - the wingtips help lock the earbuds into the eardrums Also, keep in mind that you can often find aftermarket earbud tips with the 'wingtips' attachment that helps lock into the ears (similar to the original bose StayHear earbud tips from their old original Bose quietcomfort earbuds from four years ago) Otherwise I have yet to find a comfortable earbud that looks as good as the Quietcomfort earbuds and has wingtips to lock into my ears which also comes from a reputable company. Depending on sound quality, have you ever considered the Bose Quietcomfort Ultra Open earbuds? These clip onto your ears in a very unique way, they have ANC and good enough sound quality, but you would still hear the world around you as you're working. That might be a better option - they aren't as popular as the standard bose quietcomfort earbuds so they are often sold at discount online.

I’ve had Sony XM5, Bose Ultra Open and Quiet Comfort Ultra, Jabra 10’s, and the Sennheiser Momentum 4’s. I used them all for working out/music/work (switching between Teams calls and cell) and the Sennheiser Momentum 4s beat out the others in just about every category that’s important for me (comfort, connectivity, app UI, and call clarity). They’re wildly underrated buds compared to what’s popular right now. I don’t know if they’re still on sale, but they were just $100 off at Best Buy for $199, and I HIGHLY recommend them over the other high end choices available.
