Bought the mtw 4s! I later saw that the denon perl pro’s were on a crazy sale at my store too, but that was after i bought them. Either way, I am satisfied. Besides, the copper ones look very nice imo, compared to the denon dinner plates. Either is a solid choice i’d say!

Their mic are meh, especially the sennies, they're not great at all.  Great for sound, but the mtw4 isn't a huge upgrade to the 3. It's what the 3 should have been (ie no battery issues).  Sennies claiming they're future proof when they didn't really do much with auracast (ala jbl tp3). Or not even adding jabra's transmitter case.  The devialet looks and feels nice, premium too. They're definitely up there. But again for the price you're paying, and what you're getting (yes amazing sound, top notch anc, excellent build, but not much other features), some people may argue they're not the best valued. The jbl tp3 seems like a nice overall package. So are the jabra elite 8/10 gen 2. They're great across the board, except for maybe build quality. Anc, sound, mic, ip protections, bluetooth transmitter, auracast are all above average.

I've the mtw3 and momentum headphones. Plenty of reviewers say the mtw4 is similar to the mtw3. Yes the battery is improved, but like you said auracast is useless for now, so that's moot right? I've also rocked the beoplay ex, ath twx9, denon perl pro. Also had the jbl tp2. Looking to get the bw pi8 in near future. I dont criticise the sound, because they're subjective. I might like something, but it wont fit others. Why should I stop obsessing over features? If I have to stop, then maybe you should stop obsessing over bass? Features aren't subjective like sound. Some people may prefer features than bass. Nothing wrong with that. Just like there is nothing wrong with wanting bass. You want me to stop talking about one thing, but you want to keep talking about your own thing. Interesting. Mtw4 isn't bad sounding dont get me wrong (i love my mtw3), but for the price, you're essentially getting a reliable mtw3. So yeah they're very much meh (in terms of value). Why pay an overpriced mtw3? Hell they've 2 year warranty and some countries even replace the mtw3 with the 4 eventually. And then by that time, auracast may be an actual feature. Why pay so much for an mtw4 now when you can save money lol.  https://www.reddit.com/r/sennheiser/comments/193qd25/sennheiser_offered_to_replace_mtw3_with_momentum/ Not sure why you got offended. You're the one who asked the question and invited people's opinion. And then you're telling me off for talking about features. Anw I'm done here. Enjoy your earbuds :)

Godspeed with this one bro, "comfortable" and "high quality sounding" are both wildly subjective. For my money, I'd go technics az80 or Sennheiser TW4.

The best sounding earbuds are the Denon Perl Pros. I also own the Gemini 2, BW Pi8 and MTW 4. So far the best sounding has been the Denons the problem with them is there size and fit. Just below the Denons in sound quality are the Pi8 and Gemini 2. There are distinct differences you can hear in sound from each of these earbuds.

I would go with the MTW 4 over the overpriced Gemini 2 in a heartbeat. I found that a lot of people in these reddit subs are over hyping the Gemini 2 to justify that high price tag they have to pay for them. Sennheiser has one of the best sound stages in the game and these so-called high end earbuds do not beat that just because they are priced at 500 plus dollars a pop.

You are an amateur. You don't learn what good sound quality is from trying a bunch of earbuds and returning them. You get a pair of professional studio quality sound monitors and listen to them first. The MTW 4s sound stage is the closest I have heard to studio quality monitors in terms of earbuds that is why I said go with them.

I recently got Sennheiser MTW4s because my Sony XM4s died because of a firmware update. Sound quality is far superior, and the buds are far more comfortable. Can't comment on the XM5s, though I won't be buying anything from Sony ever again. Their muted response to the firmware update troubles should be reason enough to avoid this company like the plague.

Okay after using these back and forth. I honestly think the technics are slightly better, not by much though. The technics feel lighter in the ear, this does present a minor downside where I feel like it doesn't stay in the ear as well, although I think customizing the tip to fit your ear would fix that. I like the rubber fin on the TMW4s, and it helps it feels more secure in the ear. The case of the technics is far superior imo. The fabric case gets dirty and is a pain to clean in the long run, while the technics case not only doesn't have that problem, repels finger prints, and is much smaller so it's easier to travel with. Without customizing the sound in the apps, both headphones sound remarkably similar, with maybe the slightest edge going to the technics, but it's difficult to say. I haven't played too much in the apps so I can't speak on that. The biggest thing for me. Both headphones are not Master and slave. You can take either bud out and listen with the other in the case which was my biggest compliment of the tmw2. TLDR - they are remarkably similar, you won't be disappointed by either, I think the Sennheiser are better my ears right out of the box, where as I need to mess around with eat tips of the technics to get them to be as comfortable.

It's weird. I share the same story as you and it's so identical that it scares me. I also got the MTW4 after the 3rd or so replacement of the MTW3 because of the exact reasons. I got them like 2 weeks ago and idk if I'm just hallucinating but mine have some sort of permanent white noise when nothing is playing?? Is this normal?? It's not loud. It's quiet but it's there and every time I get aware of the white noise it bothers the hell out of me for some reason

Thumbs up for a great analysis and to a Perl Pro fellow. I went from AirPods Pro 2 to MTW3, then Free Byrd, Status Between 3anc and Pro, Perl Pro, Svanar Wireless, Gemini 2. And had Jlab epic lab, Jabra 85t, 7 elite and 10 elite, MTW4, Sony XM5, Cambridge m100 briefly. Perl Pro is the most comprehensively all around with emphasis of sound quality and stage presence.

No, they are still too bassy and have a small soundstage, very in your head sound. I've tried alot of earbuds, the best ones sound quality wise have to be the Sennheiser momentum 4 true wireless, Technics AZ80 (or wait for the upcoming AZ100 on the 10th), and airpods pro 2. Bowers and wilkins Pi8 is boring, its your average V shaped sound signature, too much bass and treble.

Go for The newer AZ100 over the AZ80 if it's in your budget. As far as MTW4 reliability they fixed the issues that plagued the MTW4. As long as you buy from somewhere that gives you the sennheisser warranty you'll be fine anyway. I had a pair of MTW4 and they were fine. No issues.

I was sure the AZ80s were the best on the market but I got a pair of sennheiser MTW4s from a warranty replacement free upgrade and after putting a pair of spinfits on them (none of the included buds would create a secure seal) and creating a personalised EQ they actually sound better than the AZ80s. Both are a good choice but the sound from the MTW4s is something special. Their features are comparable. I'll make a list of what's better on each. Sennheisers: -Sound -Comfort (will depend on your ears) -Transparency mode -Aptx adaptive/ auracast if they're important to you (I use them with standard aptx which is absolutely fine) AZ80s: -I assume their customer service and warranty scheme is better than sennheiser because sennheiser's sucks. -build quality. Very nice case, they generally feel better and less plasticy than the Sennheisers -case is a lot smaller and works better. Satisfying strong magnet click when putting in earphones/ opening and closing. -supplied eartips are better, more grippy silicone and lots of choices -LDAC/ better multipoint I would find it very hard to pick between the two if I had no earphones right now. I'm a bit unsure about sennheiser after their quality issues and poor customer service plus the fact that the MTW4s are in the same shell and case as the 3s (makes them seem stingy and the case is massive). I think I would pick the MTW4s though because the sound is fantastic.

Often, especially on Android there is an issue with volume control, where the device you are listening on (the buds) are on a lower level than the source. There is a switch in the developer options, which gains full volume control via Bluetooth. This should solve the loudness issue. If they're still too quiet, you may have permanent hearing damage.

You cant go wrong at the high end your listing here. It's a matter of priorities. Best ANC, best sound quality, type of fit, most features? They will all do it all good to great but some are excellent at specific things. Consider what audio sources you have/want and what music you like. I personally loved the Sennheiser MTW4 but they had an issue with extreme suction blocking sound on my right ear. I replaced them with the JBL tour pro 3s and are good enough, the case being a transmitter is a hard carry for me. Getting a hard answer is tough because there are different products for different people. GL. from your list Id do the XM4

Hi everyone, I’m both angry and incredibly happy right now. A few weeks ago, I bought my first Sennheiser Momentum 4 over ear headphones, and they are absolutely amazing. I know what good sound quality is. I already own the Sony WF 1000XM3, WH 1000XM4, WH 1000XM3, AirPods Max, Technics AZ80, and AZ100. I love listening to music, so I was curious to try Sennheiser’s earbuds as well. After a few days, I ordered the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4. I mainly use a MacBook Pro M4 Max and a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, which only support AAC, aptX, and LDAC. No aptX Adaptive or aptX Lossless. So, I knew I couldn’t experience the full potential of the MTW4s. But honestly, I was super disappointed at first. On aptX in Standard mode, the sound quality was pretty bad. Even switching to Hi-Res mode didn’t make much difference. They sounded good, but not amazing definitely not what you’d expect from $300 earbuds, especially compared to my other pairs. I even connected them to my Mac and got slightly better results, but by that point, I was already about to return them. Today, while working on some music in Logic Pro, I decided to go through the Sennheiser app settings one more time. I had already made a custom EQ preset, but it didn’t make a difference. Then I stumbled upon the “Lossless” mode in the app. I knew my S23 Ultra doesn’t support aptX Lossless, but out of curiosity, I decided to try it anyway. And I am so glad I did. The sound quality improved dramatically. The bass became detailed and more controlled, the soundstage felt more spacious, the details were crisper, and every instrument and voice sounded cleaner and more distinct. I assume the “Lossless” mode somehow pushes the regular aptX to its limits (352 kbps) and unlocks way better sound quality. I also noticed that the EQ stopped responding completely in “Lossless” mode, which I guess means that it bypasses both the EQ and DSP entirely. This actually makes sense because the sound feels so much cleaner and more natural, without any artificial boosts or compression. It seems like “Lossless” mode creates a pure signal path that lets me hear everything exactly as it’s meant to sound. Now, the MTW4s sound better than my Technics AZ80 and AZ100, which used to be my favorites. I can’t believe I almost returned these. God damn, Sennheiser, you almost made me miss out on the best-sounding earbuds I’ve ever used. To be honest, I think Sennheiser really needs to do a better job of explaining these features to new users. Not everyone is a musician or an audio expert, and even I had no idea that switching to “Lossless” mode could make such a huge difference. For the price, I feel like regular consumers deserve to know how to get the best sound quality without having to dig through settings or rely on random discoveries like I did. If you own the MTW4s and haven’t tried “Lossless” mode yet, even with regular aptX, do it now. You might be as shocked as I am.

I'm really looking forward to hearing Sennheiser's response regarding this. Today, I spent over 6 hours listening to all of my headphones, including the Sony XM3, XM4, WF-1000XM3, Technics AZ100, AZ80, Sennheiser Momentum 4, and MTW4. After testing, I found that the MTW4 actually sounds way better than the over ear Momentum 4, which was surprising. In my opinion, the MTW4 is in the same league as the Technics AZ80. Both have amazing sound quality in their own unique ways, making it impossible to pick a clear winner. I mean, I might have chosen AZ80 before I discovered the Lossless mode on the MTW4, which completely changed the game. As for the AirPods Max, I’m not even going to bother comparing them, they’re honestly pure garbage. I got them as a gift and only rarely use them with my MacBook.  Overall, the MTW4 and AZ80 have really impressed me with their sound quality and are easily the best in their category.

Ja ja, 😁 you are right that aptX has a fixed bitrate, but the improvement I heard with “lossless” mode on the MTW4 isn’t about changing the bitrate. It seems to bypass DSP and EQ, allowing a cleaner and more natural sound. The difference is real and noticeable, not a placebo effect.

I have both headphones, and I find that the Momentum True Wireless 4 delivers a cleaner and more refined sound, especially after switching to Lossless mode. The M4 might be a great choice for those who have access to aptX Adaptive or aptX HD codecs, but I'm not sure how much of a difference they make, as I haven't had the chance to listen to them using these codecs.

Nobody knows what is good for you. You have to listen to them. Also it's useful to look into their measurements curve. I didn't listen to the Denon,Jabras and Nothing Ear. Sony are linear but will not amaze you with details and clarity. Same to Technics. Sennheisers sounds just wrong for me with no lows. Bose are ok but initial tuning is too bassy for me. It's like one just increased the bass with eq. I personally have Devialet Gemini 2. Very linear with slight increase of lows and trebles which is easily compensated. Amazing resolution, imaging, separations you name it. But again, just listen to them. I listened to Nobles, B&W, Bang and Olufsen and they did not suite my needs. But maybe they are for you.

Airpods pro 2nd gen and Sennheiser momentum true wireless 4 are both great options when it comes to sound quality. I may be wrong but I think the seinheiser has a very big edge in call quality while the airpods have the edge in regard to noise cancellation. The problem you're describing though pounds like it's probably an issue with your phone and not with the earbuds, especially as you've gone through both Sony and jabra which both have great mics and yet still experience the same issue

Hello Sennheiser, big fan here! However, I have to inform you that the issue is most likely not limited to the MTW3, nor even the MTW4 since I have had the same problem, after a year on my Momentum True Wireless, (1st Generation). My guess is an issue on some welds that can't really keep up after some time and wear. I'm convinced you will have a look into it for your future products, but I would advise you make some further test on reliability based more on wear than use (as I picture this maybe the case), and/or investigate on the source of the issue (maybe it is just from a faulty batch of welds or pieces). Anyway, I'm confident in Sennheiser, for I've been a first-try-convinced customer of this brand. I have just bought MTW4 today, waiting for the delivery. Hopefully the issue was addressed properly, or I too will move to Bose or anyone else for that matter. You can do it! ![gif](giphy|HvBolpFaIOlSQwSnvw)

I am having similar problems and am about to send my MTW3, 4, and M4 overheads. The MTW3 and the M4 were only replaced at Christmas, and the MTW4 I got at launch. I see a similar problem where in my case the right ear has stopped working. It's still powering up and connecting, but no sound. My biggest issue is that now you, (Sennheiser) will only recognise the original proof of sale so even if every set breaks they'll only replace up to the 2 years on the original purchase. I don't think so!!! Every time they are replaced we quite rightfully should get 2 year warranty on the new pairs!! I'm just waiting for the special edition M4 to pack up now. Sonova you really need to get it together. Obviously I've been a loyal Sennheiser fan but you either need to sort out reliability or honour warranties. I too will be steering clear from now on!!!

I was just doing this same research. For reference, I have the JBL Live Pro 2s, Soundscore Liberty 4 NCs & Bose over the ears. I just returned the Sennheiser MTW4s and using/testing the Nothing Ear (2024)s now. If you want deep base, I'd go with the new JBLs (Tour 3s) or the Nothing Ears. The Senny's didn't have the bass I wanted. Yes, they do have bass and they sound amazing, but I'm a basshead & the Nothing's deliver in spades. Same for the JBLs. I still use my Live Pro 2s regularly and they compare to the Nothing's for that full rich sub bass.

The perl pros cost 150 euro and sound so good. But I couldn't get the fit right even with different spinfit tips. But if they fit and you can get them cheap they are perfect. The az100 sound even a little better then the perl pros. Not so immersive but more clear. Would pick them but they are expensive atm.

My headphones died on my last flight, so I've been exploring an in-ear wireless replacement. While I don't consider myself an audiophile, I am very particular... I'm a classical musician and want high-quality sound. I need great ANC since I travel frequently, and long bike rides introduce lots of wind noise. I'd like them to replace my desktop headset for calls if the mic is good enough, and being able to customize the controls is a must. So far here are the ones I've tried: * **Sennheiser MTW4:** Love the sound (one of the best), controls are customizable enough for me, the fit is amazing right out of the box with max isolation. ANC is excellent and wind reduction is amazing (the best). I was riding about 15 mph into a headwind and it sounded like a weather channel reporter in a hurricane. Turned on wind reduction and if not for feeling the wind, I could've been in a concert hall. App is easy, intuitive, simple, and fast. Unfortunately the mic and call quality are atrocious. * **Jabra Elite 10 Gen 2**: Great sound (not the *best*, but very good (although they do *not* support aptX). Controls are customizable enough for me. I feel like the fit would be amazing if they went just a touch further in. Again, if I could get a better fit, I think the ANC is outstanding. The wind reduction isn't as good as the MTW4, but I suspect that's mostly due to poor isolation: I'd welcome recommendations on replacement ear tips. Call/mic quality is the best. The app is a little confusing, and has some neat features. My first pair was defective--constant static in the left earbud. Customer service was phenomenal and I had a new pair with next day shipping for free. * **B&W Pi8:** Overall sound quality is amazing. I'd consider these the best. ANC is on the better end, but leaves quite a bit to be desired with ambient noise. Wind reduction is pathetic, but this isn't marketed for an active lifestyle. The controls are not very customizable, and there's no way to enable/disable ANC without going through the app (which doesn't help me if I'm listening from a laptop). The app is straightforward, though a little bloated, and it took me three attempts to get them paired with my devices. Mic/call quality is very good. Apart from lacking good wind reduction, my chief complaint--and it would have been enough to send it back regardless of everything else--is the obnoxious (and obnoxiously loud) haptic noises when using the controls. I couldn't figure out how to adjust them, so even when listening at low volume to a quiet section of a song, you get acoustically assaulted by a chime. These were sent back, and I'll add their customer service is horrendous and slow. * **Bose QC Ultra:** Outstanding ANC in the low and low/mid range. Doesn't work as well for intermittent sounds or higher frequencies. Fit is so-so even with the wings, sound quality is what you'd expect from Bose: an inauthentic representation of highs and lows to make the illusion of superior sound. I was sufficiently turned off by the fit, sound, and controls that I didn't test anything else. * **Apple AirPods Pro 2:** Quite honestly, I hate white and was reluctant to even try them. I couldn't get these to fit comfortably any which way, so they went back. I'll confess some of this may be personal bias, so don't write them off on my account. My wife uses hers all the time and I know from being on the receiving end the call/mic quality in noisy environments leaves a lot to be desired--even worse than the MTW4. * **Sony WF-1000XM5:** The default sound really (I mean *really*) emphasizes the lows and highs. For classical music lovers, I'd advice against these. The balance of ANC, wind reduction, and controls makes them all-around a good product. Controls are good, but I couldn't get a great fit that truly isolated the sound and made them feel secure. Since everything else was "good" I didn't bother with other tips and sent them back. * **Denon PerL Pro:** Takes a little bit to personalize the sound, at which point they sound pretty good. Not the best, but they pass my tests across multiple genres. Something feels a little "off" with the default frequency response curve, but I don't have the equipment to test it. Fit is great right out of the box. The wings fit in my ears perfectly and they feel the most secure out of them all. App is straightforward, wind reduction is good; not great, but good enough. Controls are the most customizable of them all. Worth noting: you can also customize whether they pause automatically when one or both earbuds are removed. Call quality hasn't been tested yet. Also, and this is a real annoyance: they're really hard to get out of the case. I have to turn it upside down and shake it to release the earbuds, so one-handed use isn't possible. I'm going to hang on to these a while longer--they definitely make the final cut along with the Jabra and MTW4. * **Technics AZ100:** Out of the box, the sound was... weird. There's definitely some heavy bass, but also a really pronounced high end. This was immediately striking me as a turn-off and would be exhausting to listen to all day. The fit was good--it took a little finagling to get them firmly in place, but once I did, I barely knew they were there. App was pretty buggy for me. Despite supporting multipoint connections, I couldn't control the EQ on the earbuds from my phone while listening from my computer. Controls are highly customizable. ANC works on all frequencies (unlike some others which are more effective on certain frequency ranges). but it's effect isn't as dramatic as Bose or Sennheiser. Haven't tested the mic/call quality or wind reduction yet. What other earbuds should I be considering? (Before anyone jumps on it: yes, both my computer and Qobuz are sending via aptX.) ETA: Updated with description of pros/cons of each.

It has an incredible audio although the microphone is not so good, the noise cancellation is acceptable but the left side microphone died anyway and the 2-year warranty is over in which they changed the MTW3 3 times and almost at the end of the warranty the MTW4 which after 6 months the left side died and so I was left without Sennheiser.

I have had to take mine back 2 times within 2 weeks because my left earbud died. I called you guys and was told sorry we can't help after trouble shooting. Luckily best buy let me exchange them for something better. I just bought them again in hopes you guys fixed this issue. If you tell me again you won't help after trouble shooting I will let it be known as I do reviews and my wife also does with over 130k followers. This will be my last time.

I tried mtw4 in a store and I find it just sounds like my mtw3 which is dull and muddy, I can't really say it's high-end. I ended up buying myself the heavily discounted hifiman Svanar Wireless, which sounds much better in almost every way.

Mtw4 clearly is not the most expensive TWS, not it's made with sophisticated components and technologies. The reason I call it muddy, is because 1) it's bass doesn't go deep enough, 2) it's not very resolving (lower fidelity) comparing to some other tws or headphones I have or have tried. But honestly, even Noble Prestige can't be considered as high end product. To me, mtw4 is premium product.

These are by far the best earbuds I’ve had, it’s true they don’t have as much utility as the AirPods Pro 2, but they compensate on audio quality and perfect fit. They also have nice things the pro 2 don’t, such as lossless audio, hi res audio, better battery life, better controls, better microphone and they look much more elegant.

I will add that they (and tw3) have an amazing wind cancelling feature that I have yet to find on another set of buds, which saddens me as I had to return mine due to an issue with volume control. I am now using JBL tour pro 3, which are better in almost every aspect but let in wind noise which is ruining them for me.

For those with both, how is the clarity of the vocals on the AZ100s? I love the Sennheiser sound profiles and the clarity and detail that comes through on the highs yet still has good bass response. I tried the AZ80s but returned them after not being blown away and thinking my MTW4s were just as good or better still. Do the AZ100s finally best the MTW4s? Or would I still prefer the MTW4s if I'm focused on clarity and detail in the music with a nice side of bass? When I listen to songs like Chris Stapleton's Death Row, the detail and scratching of the guitar pick on the guitar strings is present in my MTW4s like no other buds I've tried, although still nowhere near the detail in the M3 OEs (which are better than the M4s imo). I love bass, but i want that detail and vocal clarity as well. Will the AZ100 do that as well as the MTW4s?

It is true that sound quality is subjective everyone is going to give a completely different answer than what you'd hope, so I'm going to try and be as concise and honest as possible. One of my main hobbies is trying and returning earbuds on Amazon, so that I can do my best to help other people find the pair that best suits their needs. It's been close to 200 at this point, I'm sure. So here's an unpopular take, which many may disagree with, and I'm still trying to understand why i seem to be the odd one out. I've tried the status between 3, and the original beteeen pro that I ordered through kickstarter, and I'd put them in the same category as the nuraloop, which i also ordered through kickstarter in 2016. Sadly, the denon perl pro sound pretty much the same to me, which is, dynamic, but completely muddy, and as if a thick theater curtain hides the detail from you in all three pairs. They should all be worth less than 80 dollars for the way they sound, imho. I was very unimpressed. The momentum true wireless 4 have very delicate drivers that are incredibly sensitive to changes in eq, making them distort and crackle on aptx, and I didn't find them to sound that much better than my old galaxy buds 2 Pro, tbh. Similar sound signature. I've tried all of noble Audio's wireless earbuds, and I'd put them in the same category as raycons. Overhyped, oversold, unimpressive sounding, consumer targeted garbage that looks really cool. Sadly, my 20 dollar soundcore a20i sounded miles ahead of the Noble fokus prestige, which are supposed to be the "pinnacle" of true wireless. I don't understand why people like them at all, and I hope their iems sound better. The beoplay ex were very impressive for what they were, but were incredibly uncomfortable due to the plastic seam which held them together. I have yet to try the pi8. The master&dynamic mw08 sport were amazing earbuds, but only after an eq was applied, and then they did the same thing the mtw4 did, crackle and distort due to weak speaker drivers, but they were the best and most realistic I'd ever heard, so maybe put the new mw09 at the top as well? Not sure. The devialet gemini 2 seem to get both positive and negative reviews, so it may be a gamble, haven't heard them myself tbh. Svanar wireless are another I haven't tried, but seem legit. Possibly beyerdynamic's new pair. I would say the mtw4, xm5, az80, and buds 3 pro would probably satisfy most people generally, but I've heard so many earbuds that were impressive and downright atrocious sounding that I'd put those three in the category of "good enough", not something like the prestige category. Comparing those to the beoplay ex would be like comparing caviar to boba, its just not the same. Anyways, at this point I'm rambling and probably not that helpful, sorry. Good luck with your search!

I just got the AZ100s and I've only had them for a few hours, but they're fantastic. I would say the Denon Perl Pro, Pi8, Devialet Gemini 2, and BeoPlay EX still have a slight edge in terms of sound quality, but the AZ100 sound pretty fantastic and aren't that far behind, at least in LDAC (which is all I've tested). The AZ100 are better all-arounders than any of those, although I have no real complaints about the Devialet and Denon. My initial impression is that they've dethroned my beloved Sennheiser MTW4 for best sound in the $300-ish range, but I need to spend some more time with them to know for sure. I preferred the MTW4 over the AZ80 but so far I think the AZ100 has them both beat.

I haven't had much chance to compare them side by side but my initial impression is still that the AZ100 win. It's a close call but definitive enough from my perspective. AZ100 win in terms of size and comfort. (I personally have no complaints about the MTW4 size/comfort either, but if I have to compare the two I'd say the AZ100 has the edge). AZ100 win in terms of sound but it's a small margin and somewhat subjective. I think I'll find I still prefer the MTW4 on some music, but the AZ100 is a clear overall winner for me. I like Sennheiser's sound personalization tests a lot, and there's more you can do to tweak the sound of the MTW4, but in terms of the final result I'm happy with the AZ100 sound using just its standard EQ. I've only tested in LDAC and don't know anything about LC3 /LE audio so I can't speak to that. ANC is comparable, which is an improvement because this is one area where the AZ80 clearly lost. I think the MTW4 ANC is still *slightly* better, but I haven't compared them closely enough to be certain. Either way, I'd say that the AZ100 have jumped up a league in terms of ANC. Transparency seems about equal too but I haven't compared closely. I don't really use earbuds for calls so I'll have to defer to others on call/mic quality. The MTW4 wind noise reduction feature is pretty good, but I haven't tested the Technics in windy conditions yet. AZ100 battery life seems to be better. Again, no major complaints about the MTW4 but it seems like I'm able to wear the AZ100 longer before getting battery warnings. I haven't tested this scientifically, just impressions. I don't know enough about Bluetooth versions to say whether the difference between the Technics version 5.3 and Sennheiser's version 5.4 will make an appreciable difference. I haven't tested Auracast on either device (does Auracast actually exist anywhere yet?). The AZ100's Atmos and head tracking seems to be well implemented but I don't really use it, so it's not a major selling point over the MTW4. If that's a feature that is important to you, then this is clearly a big win for the AZ100. Similarly, I don't really care about some of Sennheiser's unique features (e.g. "Sound Zones") so their absence from the AZ100 isn't a problem for me.

Sennheiser MTW4, not 3. The 3 had battery issues similar to what you experienced with the Sony. The 4 has better noise cancellation too, and more up to date technology. Jabra Elite 10 Gen 2 are the best all-arounders, especially for durability, comfort, and battery life, but the Sennheisers have better sound and are still pretty good all around. I'd be more comfortable cycling/running with the Jabra. If exercise is your primary use, the Jabra Elite 8 Active may be a better choice than the 10, but the 10 are fine for exercise that isn't too vigorous.

I tested all my earbuds in a room full of about 30 musicians warming up and chatting, including a drummer. The Bose ANC is better, by a long shot, than anything else. Sony has very good passive noise cancelling due to the foam eartips sealing your ears like earplugs. In a noisy room, the XM5 resulted in a marginally quieter experience than the Jabra Elite 10 and the Sennheiser MTW4, but the Sony had an uncomfortable muffled, plugged-up sort of effect whereas the Jabra and Sennheiser had a more filtered effect. In terms of dB (SPL) reaching my eardrums, the Sony probably beat the other two slightly, but the other two have more effective technology and I personally prefer their ANC vs. Sony's largely-passive NC. Either way, the Bose blew all three away. Significantly quieter than anything else through the whole frequency spectrum. The only strike against Bose ANC is that occasionally a sudden loud transient will make it through briefly, albeit somewhat muffled. I didn't have my Devialet Gemini 2 or Bowers & Wilkins Pi8 at the time I did this comparison but so far they have both impressed me with their ANC as well. I think the Devialet may even be 2nd place after Bose, pushing Sony down into 3rd place, but I sold my Sony before buying the Devialet so I can no longer compare them side by side.

Jabra Elite 10 Gen 2 are my favorite daily drivers when I consider comfort, pocketability, ANC, controls, durability, style, battery life, etc. They sound great but there are other earbuds that have a more premium sound. Sennheiser MTW4 are great daily drivers with a more premium sound. OnePlus Buds *Pro* 3 are great daily drivers at a lower price. My favorite control scheme of any earbuds, and quite good sound and features for the price. I have been trying the EarFun Air Pro 4 for a few days now and while they'll never replace my more premium earbuds, I think they'd make excellent daily drivers for under $100. I got them for like $60 with coupon codes. In LDAC mode with a high res streaming service, they sound far better than a sub-$100 earbud should.

ElbowSkinCellarWall • 11 months ago

Those are my two favorite sets of earbuds so I can assure you that you can't go wrong whichever one you pick. I'd probably go with the Jabra if they're primarily for working out. They're more sweat/dust resistant, and the physical buttons make it less likely that you'll accidentally trigger a press with your arm or hand when wiping sweat off your forehead or whatever. They're also sleeker and more "sporty" looking and hide in your ears a bit better than the big boxy Sennheisers, and the soft touch rubber is a bit more grippy and comfortable against your ear. I can wear the Jabras all day with no discomfort. The Sennheisers are comfortable too but I do get a bit of fatigue and that slightly itchy/sore feeling inside my ears after wearing them for long periods. I get this from most earbuds *except* the Jabras. The Sennheisers are a bit more bulky and heavy, and while they stay in pretty well under most conditions, I think they're slightly more likely to get dislodged by your arms during an overhead lift, and slightly more likely to succumb to gravity when you're on your side. That being said, some people have reported that the Jabra oval ear tips fit their ears too loosely and always feel like they're about to fall out. This has not been my experience, but if you find this to be the case, you may want to try replacing the eartips with AZLA Crystal eartips, which fit more traditionally and grip inside the ear pretty well. (You may want to try these even if you go with the Sennheisers). I was just testing the ANC on the two side by side yesterday. They're pretty much tied. The Jabra is slightly better at cancelling low rumble and high hissing like air conditioner / vehicle noise. The Sennheisers are slightly better at cancelling mid/mid-high sounds like talking and external music. So the Sennheisers may be a little better for drowning out the gym radio, but the difference is small and may be negligible if you're listening to your own music. (I was testing them with nothing playing through the earbuds, just to see which gets more silent). I'd probably say the difference is too small to overcome the other benefits of the Jabra, but if your priority is to eke out that last 1-2% percent of gym radio cancellation, then you may want the Sennheisers. Also worth noting: the Azla Crystal tips do seem to improve the Jabra's ANC slightly, so that might be enough to equal or surpass the Sennheiser ANC. I haven't compared this directly though. Both have excellent audio quality and a good amount of bass. I'd give the Sennheisers a slight edge when it comes to audio quality, at least when sitting and listening actively. For workout music I'm not sure it matters: I've worked out with cheap JLab earbuds and been fine with their sound quality in that context.

The MTW4 are one of the best sounding earbuds out today, and a very good all around earbud. They are a bit better, in almost every way, than the Technics AZ80, which is a crowd favorite here. The best sounding earbuds are the Devialet Gemini II, the Denon Perl Pro, and the Beoplay EX, but these are all in the $300-500 price range. The Sennheisers are the best sounding earbuds under $300, and occasionally, on some tracks, I actually prefer their sound over all the $300-500 ones. They are in the top 5 for ANC, their touch controls are customizable, they're pretty comfortable and they have multiple eartip sizes plus wing-thingies to help hold them in the ear. I have almost all the top premium earbuds on the market today and the Sennheiser MTW4 are probably my 2nd favorite overall for everyday use, after the Jabra Elite 10 Gen 2. The Sennheiser sound is better than the Jabra. Their personalized sound feature in the app is one of the best, because it essentially has you mix a track to your taste, and then adjusts the EQ and tuning based on that. However, I've found that I get the most premium sound when I put the MTW4 in High Resolution mode, and in this mode the personalized sound feature is disabled. But I recently discovered that the EQ section has something called "sound check" which guides you through developing a personal EQ setting, and this *is* functional in High Resolution mode, so the combination of high res mode and soundcheck is where I've gotten the best possible sound.

>Across all Sennheiser has the best sound, but the mediocre ANC and atrocious quality control disqualifies them for me at that price range. The MTW4 ANC is quite good. After Bose and Devialet, Sony is probably 3rd place ANC, BUT with the MTW4 and Jabra Gen 2 nipping at its heels. I haven't heard of any quality control issues with the MTW4. Apparently they switched to a new battery/battery provider which solved the main issue that was causing many MTW3s to die prematurely. That was one of the main things I looked for before I purchased the MTW4.

**Top tier sound under $350**: * Pi8 when they're on sale. * Denon Perl Pro (which have dropped dramatically in price lately) * BeoPlay EX (the Eleven are out now but they're $500 and I haven't tried them). **So Close to Top-Tier that You're Unlikely to be Disappointed**: (and these are generally better all-arounders than the top tier list) * Sennheiser MTW4 * Technics AZ100 * (Maybe) JBL Tour Pro 3 (I had these briefly and was initially underwhelmed, but the sound grew on me)

Since your first criterion is great ANC, I'd take the AZ80 off your list. It's one of the best earbuds out there in nearly every way *except* for its ANC, which is serviceable but not as good as other flagship models. The Sennheiser MTW4 is roughly equivalent to the AZ80 in most ways but has better ANC and some more future-proof technologies like AuraCast. I think the Sennheiser has better sound than the Technics too, but I came to that conclusion only after extensive back and forth testing in which I preferred the Sennheiser roughly 60% of the time, so it's a close call. Overall my favorite is the Jabra Elite 10 Gen 2, which is more comfortable and has better controls (physical buttons, all customizable), and roughly equivalent ANC. I'd say the Sennheiser sound is a bit better though. I find the Sony to be uncomfortable and it annoys me that the touch controls only have limited options for customization. The sound is pretty good but I think it's a bit shy of top-tier. The ANC is up there with the Sennheiser and Jabra. I'm not an Apple person so I can't really compare to the AirPods, but AirPods are boring and who wants to be boring?

From your list, (EDIT: your original pre-edit list of 4) the Pi8 have the best sound. But the Sennheiser have very good sound too, and are better overall. If I could only choose one, I'd pick the Sennheiser MTW4.

My original comment was based on your first list. I've owned most of the earbuds in your edited list, and I'd consider them *all* among the best sounding earbuds out there. I'd probably say the Gemini, Denon, B&W, and B&O are roughly tied for "best sounding," and the winner comes down to personal preference. But if I had to choose only one set, I'd still probably go with the Sennheiser MTW4 or Technics (AZ100, which I like better than the AZ80). The Gemini and others may have slightly better sound but the Sennheiser and Technics still sound fantastic: they're not far behind, and you wouldn't be missing out on some mindblowing sonic experience. But I consider these two to be better overall, in terms of functionality, app, features, etc.

>If you don't mind, could you share your ranking list for best overall and one for sound quality? Thank you in advance! Of the ones listed in your post, my personal rankings would be: BEST OVERALL: 1. Sennheiser, Technics 2. Denon, Devialet 3. Bose, Sony 4. Pi8, BeoPlay BEST SOUND: 1. Devialet, Pi8, Denon, BeoPlay (in roughly that order if I *had* to rank them, but I consider them more or less tied, and my preferences might change from day to day or song to song) 2. Sennheiser, Technics AZ100 3. AZ80 4. Sony, Bose I've never used the EQ or the Eleven.

In that price range, the best sound is the Denon Perl Pro or Sennheiser MTW4. The MTW4 and the AZ80 are in the same league when it comes to sound quality, but I find the MTW4 to be the clear winner. It's a closer call with the AZ100--I change my mind frequently about which sound I prefer between the AZ100 and MTW4, but both slightly beat out the AZ80. But the AZ100 is out of your price range, and I don't think there's any need to stretch your price to get the AZ100 when you can get the MTW4 instead.

The Sennheiser and Technics are like Coke and Pepsi (or vice versa). I consider them almost exactly tied in terms of sound quality, and the difference mainly comes down to personal preference. I have both, and if I compared 100 pieces of music, I'd probably prefer the Sennheiser on 50, and the Technics on 50. They're both among the best sounding earbuds available in their price range so you can't really go wrong with either choice. Both sound better than the Bose.

They're more or less tied in my book, but I think the Technics have a *slight* edge in battery life and ease of use. They stick out a bit less from the ears, so maybe they'd be less likely to catch accidental touches? I've never had that problem on my MTW4 so I can't say definitively that it's better on the Technics. The MTW4 are basically identical in size, shape, and touch controls to the MTW3, so any physical issues you had are unlikely to change. The MTW3 had a notorious battery problem causing one or both buds to die prematurely, but supposedly they switched to a new battery and battery supplier for the MTW4, and they did put in some battery-preserving features, like the option to auto-stop charging at 80% (which is, evidently, better for long term battery health than charging to 100% every time). I haven't had any battery or dropout problems in the year and a half I've owned them, and I definitely haven't seen complaints about them at nearly the quantity of the complaints there were back in the day about the MTW3.

Sony XM5 will never win a "most comfortable" contest. The most comfortable earbuds are the Jabra Elite 10, and they sound *good* but there are several earbuds with better sound and more hi-res codecs. If money is no object, the Devialet Gemini 2 are very lightweight and comfortable, and are widely considered the best sounding earbuds on the market today. The Bowers & Wilkins Pi8 are growing on me as well: they are comfortable and well made, and sound fantastic, and support some high res codecs like APTX lossless. I still think the Devialet sounds slightly better but my mind changes from track to track. Sennheiser MTW4 and Technics AZ80 are a bit more reasonably priced (though still on the high end of the consumer earbud market). Both are pretty comfortable and sound fantastic. To my ears, the Sennheiser sound a bit better and the Technics are a bit more comfortable. In the under-$200 range, the Nothing Ear (2024) and the OnePlus Buds *Pro* 3 are both very comfortable and sound fantastic. The Nothing supports more high resolution audio codecs but whether this matters depends a lot on what your phone supports.

Bose has been making noise-cancelling headphones and earbuds for decades - they also design noise cancelling headphones for aviation pilots. Needless to say, they have been perfecting their ANC algorithms for a LOT longer than other brands. If ANC is key, Bose Quietcomfort ultra is going to be at the top of the list - AS LONG AS you mix/match earbuds and wingtips to find the perfect 'fit' - it could take a few weeks before you get a nice tight seal in the ears. The Sony XM4 earbuds scored quite high on ANC compared to the Bose in real-world testing, but some firmware update from Sony effectively killed the battery life on the XM4 earbuds, and it seems the XM5 also have battery life issues. Jabra has gotten a fair amount of praise as a mid-priced quality earbud. HOWEVER earlier this year Jabra announced they were stepping out of the wireless earbud market - so there is no more hardware or software updates coming from Jabra, and no clue how they'll honor warranty claims if there is one. Sennheiser is really popular all around. The MTW4 are on sale for a good price and perform pretty well. However from my experience with the Momentum Sport earbuds, the ANC works well enough, but not the best I've handled.

You can customize the sound with their app and adjust the bass to your likings. For me personally the bass is perfect: Not overwhelming (which would drive out the other sounds), but still a ton of power in the bass. Sennheiser overall has a bit more V-shaped sound which puts the emphasis on EDM, so it's a perfect match for hardstyle.

This is an accurate review of the AZ80. I had the Denon Perl Pros first then bought the AZ80. I was pleasantly surprised on how similar the soundstage was to the Denon Perl Pro, however they lacked that bit of bass. I do own the MTW4 as well which has a narrower soundstage unfortunately, but I felt that guitars didn't sound as crisps on the AZ80 compared to the MTW4. They are no doubt an all rounder bud, but there are areas they do lack slightly.

I haven't tried the AZ100 but do own the AZ80 and MTW4. The AZ80 sounds better because of the wider soundstage and better instrument separation. The MTW4s have a narrower soundstage although they sound a bit more detailed and have got one of the best treble out there. So if you love a wider soundstage the AZ80 is the way to go but if you are into good treble the MTW4 is the way to go. Also I would recommend MTW4 if you like metal a lot as the guitars sound better than the AZ80.

I do agree on this. I recently got the AZ80s and I've been binging on them because of the wide sound stage they have which I love, but did realize that the string instruments do not come out as good compared to the MTW4. So now I interchange them depending on what I want to listen to. I do get why people would choose the AZ80 or AZ100 over the MTW4, however I think there are things that the MTW4 can do that the AZs cannot achieve.

I started with the MTW3 which were worse than the MTW4 in terms of reliability and pretty much went through 5 pairs till they ended up giving me the MTW4 under warranty. So far I've had the MTW4 for 7 months and they seem to be holding up a bit better, but I better not jinx it. Sound wise they are okay but lack the instrument separation that you can get on the Denon Perl Pro and AZ80. I have the Denon Perl Pro which are by far the best sounding earbuds I have tried so far. Good soundstage and instrument separation. Also the stand out thing about their sound is the immersive feel you get out of them. However you may start getting white noise issues in ANC or Ambient mode with the earbuds, and I'm currently waiting for a replacement for that issue. I also got the AZ80s which are somewhat similar to the Denon Perl Pro in terms of soundstage and instrument separation, but lacks the immersiveness of the Denon Perl Pro. Can't say much about reliability though.

I just had the same issue with my mtw4, all of a sudden the volume went very low, chirping bird noise and that loud screeching that could grind someone teeth's. However it only happens when I wear them with the silicone bud, if I don't use it and bring it nearby my ears, it works normally. Earlier today I tried to invert the silicone bud so it would look like a cup, then I used my finger to create a suction and pump it, I could hear the screeching 3 feets away from my ears lol. I believe it could be damage caused by the air pressure when I put them on and off, or it could be something else. I've seen a thread about people renting the mesh to clean it and some remove the microfilm then it was fixed for many. Maybe it has something to do with this tiny, golden colored parts just under the mesh...?

Sennheiser fixed the problems of the MTW3 with multiple improvements in the MTW4. The main failure of the 3's was faulty batteries but the company changed battery supplier for models after that and evrything related to that was resolved with new batteries and a new supplier. They said that on this sub. You won't get the sound quality with Apple that you will getbwith Sennheiser. But the ecosystem compatibility is a factor to consider.

I agree with the other comments. I am a Sennheiser fan boy but yes, audiophile companies try to give you the "truth" of sound without the color. Color is a great term. It refers to the "boost" in certain frequencies that appeal to the masses. This is not the audiophile way generally. Audiophiles seek the revealing details of frequencies as they were intended, uncolored so you can tweak to your taste if you want to. They want the soundstage presented as if they were in front of a live band. They like the instruments separated in different placements as in a live performance in their listening with imaging depth. You have to pay for this. Audiophile companies compete to focus on the presentation of those details in their approach in their headphones and within their models. And they offer different equipment and approaches to get you "there." True wireless earbuds have reached the audiophile fringe. But wired iems still lead with class-leading audiophile sound, they just do. Bluetooth is not considered a true audiophile signal transfer method. Distortion and interference and lopsided connectivity all contribute to a low grade signal comparatively. The industry standard for Bluetooth codecs is gradually improving but not there yet to provide true lossless high resolution listening. Wired iems from audiophile companies like the ones you mentioned will give you that. High resolution is where its at. What is acceptable music listening to you? Is compressed music acceptable or do you want your music to blossom into its many parts? How deep are your pockets? It is true that there is a point of diminishing returns for your money. Doing your research like this is a good first step. You have to discover your sweet spot by asking good questions like you are. At the end of the day, true wireless earbuds rely on Bluetooth codecs. If you are going to go that route, you want buds that will support future Bluetooth codecs like the Sennheiser MTW4. That is freedom to move around. If you are wanting to really focus on your music and get truly immersed into really high resolution listening for periods of time, wired iems like the Sennheiser IE600 or IE900 are the way to go. Of course, the companies you mentioned and other niche companies offer theirs as well. It is all about the quality of music reproduction for these guys. Just like it should be. Not mass market everything models.

Sony WF1000-XM5 or Sennheiser Momentum TWS 4 if you don't mind spending a lot of money. I don't prefer TWS earpods anymore because of the fact that these have miniscule batteries that undergoe insane number of charging cycles if used regularly within a short period. From my experience, I see that its very easy for those tiny batteries to not last longer enough after reasonable usage, making the earpods not practical. And fixing these is a pain. At the same time, if you spend the same money on a very good pair of Headphones, those will last for years with much better ANC and excellent audio quality. Sony WH-1000XM5, Bose Quiet Comfort, Bose 700 or Sennheiser Momentum 4 are a few to choose from. None of these is a wrong choice really.

For true wireless, I've found Sennheiser Momentum true wireless very comfortable. I just got my hands on some of them series and they have been great. I find the fit the best and I use them for hours for music and work. For these. You find the tip that has a secure fit and then rotate the whole bud back into the ear. If you want active noise cancellation and top of the line, I recommend these, either the Momentum TW 3 or TW 4. You can find the 4s at best buy for $250 now. I've tried others at the top end including older models of the Sony WF..XM series and they were not nearly as comfortable. I also have a pair of Pixel Buds Pro that I do find comfortable but have trouble with the seal and active noise cancellation being weak, especially when I'm commuting via the train. If you buy from best buy, you can return if they don't work (it's how I was able to try the Sony's before I returned them).

I have the mtw4 and I’m enjoying them as hell! Connectivity issues? Sure! A good anc? You would! A good transparency that doesn’t sound like s**t when calling someone/good mics? Not even close! But man! The sound quality! I feel like are the closest earbuds to an over ear deep sound. I’ve ordered memory foam tips, can’t wait to try them! Btw I have these earbuds since 4 months

I had a pair of AirPods Pro before this and, talking about mere sound quality (anc and transparency work but are really bad compared to the AirPods Pro imo) I never heard any true wireless earbuds with this sound stage, I later discovered that the drivers inside this thing are the same one found in mid/top tier Sennheiser iems (7mm TrueResponse Transducer). Unfortunately there are NO "one size fits all" and there are NO "best wireless earbuds" at rhe moment. Sound, ANC, fit & comfort are very much dependant on how they fit you. Eartips FROM Azla, Spinfit and Comply also enhance the experience with better grip and comfort. I've had all the buds on your list. I see Sonys mentioned a lot in this thread. They are awful imo. Very small footprint makes them loose in my ears. Terrible hybrid foam tips which are too small and have no grip. It's ANC gives a bad thudding body noise when ur exercising or when there's a loud noise near u. Turn anc off and it's gone. Call quality very average and poor in noise environments. They also have battery issues which u can read with a quick Google. Technics AZ80 have very good sound quality and decent battery life but they didn't stay in properly for me. ANC is average at best. The customisation and app is one of the best out there. Jabra Elite 10 are solid. Esp when paired with Azla eartips. Good anc, good sound good call quality. Bose QC Ultra have good sound, best in class anc but they also have a thudding noise when anc is on, although not as bad as the Sonys. Call quality is average and bad in noise environments. App control and connection and stability are not great. Sennheiser MTW4 are what I stuck with. Good sound (esp when personalised and tweaked), good comfortable fit for me, good anc, good battery. Call quality is average. Good app and customisation.

ve had the TW4 for a couple of months now and regret buying them. It’s hard to describe how annoying this is without experiencing it but there’s a ridiculous high pitch sound coming from the right ear bud which only stops if you adjust the bud! Sometimes when you’re listening to music you don’t notice until it gradually gets louder and you realise that the high pitch sound has been building for about 30 seconds, It’s excruciating! Also, I come from the TW2’s and the build qualities not even comparable. They felt solid in my ears during workouts and these just feel flimsy. Also, the Anc is a joke! I can still hear outside sounds really easily. Not sure what Sennheiser are playing at but I’m gonna send these back as they simply don’t work!

How about reliability? I had to return a Jabra set due to a volume mismatch, two pairs of MTW3s due to battery issues, and now I have store credit, but I’m a bit gun shy of the MTW4s. The AZ100s seem great and are the exact same price as the MTW4s in my location, but I’d really like to know which model is more likely to die an untimely death? I look after my gear - all the issues above were not the result anything I did, they just failed, fortunately all within their respective warranty periods. What’s the most likely thing to go wrong with each? Everything that has been reported (chirping, volume imbalance, flat battery) went wrong on both pairs of my MTW3s, I was able to fix all of them except the battery issue.

I currently own a pair of MTW3, MTW4 and WH1000xm4. One thing I dislike about them, is that when using only one earphone, the right one is dominant. I usually leave it only in the left ear, so that means that I either have to have both in at once, the right one in my pocket or just not have them in at all. Just my 0.02€, if anyone reading this is persuaded to switch. :)

It might help if you told us what you disliked about the ones that you've tried. I've been happy with my Sennheiser TW4s, but I also recognize that I'm never going to get ideal sonics from an earbud, so I stick to my HD600s when I do serious listening. I haven't used the others on your list, because I have a hard limit of $100 on earbuds (the TW4s were bought used via eBay) - I've realized that when it comes to audio, reliability and durability are inversely proportional to price. Soundpeats Capsule 3 Pro Plus sound amazing good for something that cheap.

Sitting here with both of these auditioning them. Initial impression is along the lines of what others have said. The AZ100 are a bit warmer & bassy. MTW4 is a bit more neutral. At least out of the box with no customization. MTW4 tips flip inside out when I pull them out of my ears. That’ll get old quickly. Could care less about Dolby atmos and head tracking. If you want that get an iPhone and AirPods (which i have and have always hated). Might be nitpicking, but the AZ100 case is nothing special. Very plasticky. The MTW4 is $80 cheaper right now.

Exactly, their Momentum 4 TWS earbuds are really not that great and have a massive drop after 14kHz, which means anything above that won´t be reproduced to any meaningful amount. I´ve had quite a few moments in songs where things were straight up just missing entirely, due to this. I´m quite underwhelmed by the current state of mass market consumer products like this and fully back into wired. Beyerdynamic DT 1990 pro at home, Sennheiser IE600 on the go.

Audio quality depends on person to person. I like punchy bass and am basically a slight bass head!! For me it's as follows : 1. Sennheiser MTW4: works on most number of genres. Awesome bass but not overpowering. 2. Bose QC Ultra: the most booming bass. Like it when I'm listening to hip hop, edm etc. But vocals are good too. Treble is a bit weak but I'm very treble sensitive so don't really mind. 3. Technics and Sony wf-1000xm5: very smooth and balanced. Sony has slightly more bass than technics. Respond well to EQ. I love these when I don't want to drown myself in bass. Particularly for classical, jazz, country music etc. 4. Samsung buds 2 pro : weakest bass in this bunch. But very bright and clear sound. I mostly use this for movies and podcasts but sometime I listen to classical on this.

I've tried all the brands before (though not your exact models). Bose is going to have the best ANC if money is no object. Apple didn't have as good a seal or as comfortable, Sony didn't have as good anc, and sennheiser does not do good anc (though their sound is immaculate). Evrything else you can forget if you're not on a budget. Reviews that say Jabra or soundcore are as good for a lot cheaper are disingenuous - yes they can be decent on a budget, but they don't compare in terms of anc. I've tried jabra, soundcore, earfun, you name them.

Hmmm ones with good sound could be denon perl pro and Sennheiser mtw4/momentum sport Honestly regarding wing tips, I've kinda been indifferent. Used the liberty 3 pros but then upgraded to technics az80 after I lost them. So far have pretty similar stability with a bit less of that occasional soreness I got from the wingtips There are also things like the Jabra elite active series with the silicone covering meant to help with making them more grippy to the ear. One thing to know is that sound is subjective. All the ones you a re looking at are competitive with one another in the higher end consumer segment. The momentums might be a good choice for your music needs as they are a bass forward earbud with good sound. I love the Technics but the fit might not be the most comfortable for everyone. I can tell you this the AZ 80 earbuds are not the most comfortable for my ears BUT I have used more comfortable earbuds. Also the Perl Pro are comparable imo for sound but I had the experience and have seen a lot of people says they are uncomfortable. As for the Sony they are decent but the others produce a better sound profile. The best thing to do if you are able to is look at some reviews YouTube. If you want some good sources I can help with that. Also try the others if you can and return what you don't like. Unfortunately it's a big trial and error type situation especially with fit. One thing that will help with the fit is some eartips from Spinfit. I've found that I've gotten better sound and fit from earbud using theor eartips. Hope this helps some

I have them all! The xm5s are formidable on all spectrums (I use them without anc in the gym because the passive insulation is excellent!) The AirPods are very good but the sound is much worse. The Jabra are comfortable, good active isolation and much better sound over the AirPod Pro 2. The momentum is excellent in sound quality, the ANC is equivalent to the Jabra. The Bose are excellent in anc but their really low end. If I had to give you an ultimate choice, if you listen to a lot of music and quality and reduction are important to you, Sony is the best placed. They are part of my daily and my favorite pair for listening to music with the Denon Perl Pro.

It’s blasphemy to say Bose sounds better. It’s just bloated and muddy, especially their flagship QC Ultra earbuds that are just a buggy mess. But the B&W Pi8 do sound better, even the Denon Perl Pro. But Bose is the only one that competes with Sony in terms of ANC. The Momentum True Wireless 4 have ok ANC, the Perl Pro’s ANC is subpar (even at their $150 sale price), and the Pi8’s ANC is only slight better than that.

Unpopular opinion: I think they’re overrated and prefer the Sony WF-1000XM5. They have better ANC, I prefer their sound signature and like Sony’s clear bass option, better mic call quality, a smaller case, and last a little longer per charge all in a (for me) more comfortable design. I tried to like the Momentum True Wireless 4. But their ANC is average, at best, and I didn’t think they were any clearer than my Sony earbuds. I preferred the Denon PerL Pro to these as well, and they’re usually on sale for $240-ish. They have the same average level of ANC as the Momentum. But their automatic tuning was something else. Still didn’t have the bass punch of the Sony (neither do the Momentum), but I preferred their clarity and sound signature over the Momentum’s. I know a lot of people here like the Momentum True Wireless 4. I just couldn’t get into them. I probably would have if I didn’t already own the XM5.

What device are you pairing them to? You could look at the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro if you’re on Samsung or the AirPods Pro 2 if you have an iPhone. Either one has strong ANC, though I think the APP2 have that edge, and god audio quality (I think the Galaxy Buds have the edge with that). Your ear shape looks prime for stemmed earbuds. Those never fit mine, I didn’t have any issues with the AZ80s. I would recommend the Bose QC earbuds Ultra with their fin tip, but they’re far too buggy for me to actually recommend and I will outright refuse to buy any Bose product for a while. There’s also the Denon PerL Pro. They have wing tips. ANC isn’t as good as Sony or Bose, but I enjoyed their audio quality after going through their testing. Lastly, there’s the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4. They have wing fins as well and can help stay in despite not being stemmed earbuds (like the Denon). I hate stemmed earbuds, the only pair that stayed in my ears were the B&O EX and I thought their ANC was terrible. Their app also isn’t the best. EQ’ing them is done through a “feelings” page rather than just giving you a 3-8 band EQ like most other earbud apps.

Everyone's ears are different but I hear a significant difference between the air pro 4's and my AZ100 and my Jabra Elite 8. Closer to my Sennheiser Momentum TW 4, but still the soundstage and clarity of all those is at least a step above the earfuns. I've tried tuning the Earfuns, but they're considerably harsher, sibilant in the highs, and kind of compressed from 1k through about 5k. But that's just me.

Me too, though I'd probably go 80/20 to the Technics because I prefer their warmer almost more analog sound (though they're still very clear and precise and you can get them both pretty close with eq). But I agree that another person might be 80/20 the other way. I personally think the Technics are slightly more comfortable and have better mic technology. ANC is pretty close. I also hate the fact that to customize the "sound personalization" on the Sennheisers you have to listen to a built in sound file instead of fine tuning while you're listening to your preferred source. So all those things tip me toward the Technics.

So many threads about this... but since I have both, I'll give you a quick rundown. I think sound quality is slightly better in the AZ100s, but not by a ton. The AZ100s have more bass, and a warmer, almost analog-like sound, but with plenty of clarity in the highs. They're a pleasure to listen to. The MTW4's are still very nice, but a little more "standard" / reference feeling, with perhaps a *little* more splash in some parts of the higher ranges (though the soundguys review says that there's an underperformance at about 2 kHz). AZ100s are far more comfortable to me, being much smaller and easier to fit in the ears. The MTW4s are boxy and bulky, and I really wouldn't want to exercise in them. AZ100 and MTW have relatively the same touch controls and they're similarly customizable, but the AZ100 waits to give you beeps until after you've repeatedly tapped. So, for example, if you set double tap to next track, you have to tap twice before the AZ100s beep twice (indicating a double tap). You're left wondering if you tapped twice until your tapping is done. The MTW beeps every time you tap, so you know it's been registered. That leads to fewer misfires. AZ100's call quality is much much better. MTW's ANC is probably a little better than the AZ100s in the highs, but is equal in the lows. The AZ100s have a cool voice-centric transparency mode which works pretty well. MTW's case is much nicer, with its tweed-like finishing and strong-as-nails magnet to keep the lid closed. The AZ100's case has a nice brushed metal cover, but is otherwise basic plastic (though sturdy feeling). However, its lid and magnet are pretty weak, meaning that any drop will result in the earbuds spilling out. But it is very very nice and compact. MTW's app kinda stinks IMO. You can create a personalized sound profile (which is awesome) but to tweak it the Sennheiser app *plays its own internal music.* So you can't tweak the eq while listening to the music you want to EQ. The Technics app isn't perfect (I think that honor belongs to Nothing) but everything's there and very customizable. MTW4 has AptX codecs, which I prefer to the LDAC in the AZ100, but for connectivity and usability rather than sound quality reasons. For battery life, I think the AZ100s specs are better (Whathifi says 10 hours per charge for AZ100 vs. 7.75 for the MTW4's). I frankly haven't listened to the MTW4's for that long. AZ100s have 3-device multi-point (if you don't use a hires codec or LE audio), MTW4 has 2-device. AZ100s have Dolby atmos with head tracking, but I think turning it on really washes out the music. It might be OK if you're watching movies, but definitely not worth it for music. (However, listening to Dolby mixes from Apple music on the AZ100s with Dolby OFF on the earbuds is a joy.) AZ100s have an IP4 water resistance rating (not very good). Technics has an IP54 (slightly better). Still, I wouldn't want to risk either being exposed to anything more than light sweat. Of course, the MTW's are also $80 less on Amazon right now.

I’ve had experience with a few of these, and I can give you some insights based on your priorities. Here’s what I think, in terms of sound quality, Sony and Sennheiser are usually considered the best, with crisp highs and deep bass. For ANC, Sony and Bose are top-notch, but the Technics and Jabra also do well. Call quality is solid across all, but I’d give an edge to the AirPods Pro and Sony for clear, noise-canceling calls. Would love to hear what you decide!

As most have said, IEMs for pure listening pleasure. Earbuds for out and about. I have different headphones for Cycling, walking, gaming, music making, flying etc, and before I discovered IEMs, I would always relax with big pair of over ear headphones. Sure, you can get bluetooth headphones that come close (for me that's my Earfun free pro 3, sennheiser TW4, and sometimes Rose technics ceramic, and my Marshall Major V) but they are all beaten by my BASN Mix-PD IEMs for pure musical pleasure. I think they sound better than my BeyerDynamic DT990s. If you are lying down then cables don't matter, but if you need noise cancelling then it's buds or over ears..

The Gemini 2 sound fantastic, like seriously fantastic. They lack modern day codec support though, and that’s a real bummer. It depends on *why* you are getting buds. Also, at the price point, you’d expect them to be fully loaded w/ competing features. I returned them to Amazon because the purchase to me, felt too much for what I got. I had the Sennheisers, but unfortunately returned them due to two main reasons. 1) Connectivity when 2 devices are connected. They can get stuck when switching to another device and refuse to switch back. It’s a known problem and I experienced it. 2) Even if you turn the app settings off, it may automatically go into standby mode anyway. The issue with the M4 standby modes (issue on the buds and the over the ears), is that some devices will not send audio afterwards. This means they need to be reconnected. I experienced on two different devices. Other than that, man, the sound quality was also top tier. I wish the software was too. I seriously loved the sound. So what did I settle on? Jabra Elite10 Gen I tried: Both you listed, JBL Pro Tour 3, Sony XM5s, Bose Ultra Quiet, Pi7 (haven’t tried the 8s yet), and the Technics AZ80s. I have not tried the Denons. Why the Jabras? They just did everything right. - I’ve had zero connectivity drops, or issues switching between devices fluidly. - No issues like the Momentum’s when it came to audio being played back after taking them out for standby. - They were my favorite fitting, and the comfort is seriously ridiculous. - IP57 for dust and sweat protection (I run a lot) - Sound is still very good and clean with a nice neutral sound. As for ANC. I’d say the XM5s were the best and the AZ/Pi7 were on the bottom, but my main use case is wind and fans, so they all worked nearly equally as well.

This happened to my MTW3s 4 times!!! Thankfully by the 4th time I was offered the 4s and so far so good. But I wouldn’t be surprised if the same thing happened. My hypothesis: I think the -bluetooth connection- interacts with certain metals and becomes permanently damaged. I was wearing cheap rings around the first few times this happened and I’m always fussing with the fit in my ears, while comfortable, I want the seal to be perfect, mind my OCD lol. That’s my hypothesis, whenever I touch my earbuds to adjust them I can hear a bit of feedback or white noise as if the connection is disrupted albeit briefly. If this, mixed with a tether such as cheap metal like my rings or (even my friends earrings, because the last time the 3s broke, she heard the loudest screeching noise and had to throw it to the ground. She always wore long dangly earrings. I do want to add after this, one earbud went dead but you could always hear a chirping noise in the dead one. Sounded like a little tiny bird. I hope it doesn’t happen to my 4s cause I love them.

1. AZ80 My personal favourite for sound, it's very balanced but when you select the dynamic preset, they really comes to life with amazing bass whilst not muddying up the mids. LDAC allows for really good quality. ANC is good, the fit and comfort is good, the case size is good. I don't personally use transparency or call that often. 2. (Potentially) Gemini II I haven't tried these but people I trust say these sound better than the AZ80. 3. Denon PerL Pro A lot of people rank these number 1. I really like the sound on these, its got a really nice dynamic sound but there's a bit of a white noise that made me rank them lower. But that's a personal thing. You may find these no. 1. Fit and comfort wasn't that great for me because of the size, but that's subjective. 4. Status Between 3ANC Very good punchy sound, the tripple driver setup works really well. I found the comfort to be amazing too. ANC wasn't the best but still okay. I for some reason preferred the AZ80s sound overall so I went with those, but I would have been happy with these as my daily too. 5. Momentum 4 I was most excited for these, as I have the Momentum 4 over ear cans. I have their wired open back headphones too, so I'm a bit of a sennheiser fanboy. But these didn't impress me as much as the others. The sound quality is amazing, specially the vocals and its pretty dynamic. But even after the sound personalisation, I just couldn't get it to be as punchy is I'd like it to be. ANC was good but the case was also too big to comfortably fit in my pocket. 6. Nothing Ear Yet to try but heard a lot of good reviews, specially for the price

I have to say we must have similar ears as I agree with your evaluation. If you don't mind, could you do a quick comparison of the devialet to the AZ80? Specially in terms of bass and subbass? Perhaps with AZ80 on dynamic or superbass presets. These are the only buds I haven't been able to try as it's not on amazon UK rn. AZ80 are my dailies atm, I have no need to change but just curious. I'd recommend you try the status between 3anc if you do get the chance, they are great all round. Specially given the price. Perhaps a little hurt by the codec selection but wasn't thst noticeable to me. The tripple driver setup bangs.

The times I prefere the Pearl Pro's is for some very rave/ bass heavy songs like some boris brechja and the im good blue remix from guetta but I feel overall the MTW4 sounds better. The only thing the MTW4 lacks is that wide sound stage feeling you have on the Pearl Pro and the ease of volume increase as I almost max the volume on the MTW4. The Sennheiser‘s have a giant case that will not fit in your pocket nicely. I don’t know if that’s a factor or not. And to me their sound is overly warm and a bit subdued sounding, and the microphone quality is not great. The Denon’s are the best sounding of the bunch. But they’re not that comfortable and will fall out during exercise. The Bowers and Wilkins have surprisingly poor sound. they are great for certain genres of music that are more bass heavy but for something like rock music they sound like trash. I saw you mention banging Olsen in another comment. They don’t sound great to me either and are hit or miss as far as the fit, depending on your ear shape. that leaves the Sony‘s and techniques. If you have the capability, I would buy them both, try them out, and return the one that you don’t like best. Between noise canceling, sound, quality, mic quality, fit, the battery, etc. they each have their pros and cons, but end up stacking up fairly equal. I had a problem with the Sony‘s in that they would not make a perfect seal in my ears, and I’ve seen other people mention that as well, so that could be a factor. You will absolutely see a difference in sound quality and noise canceling if you’re able to achieve a perfect seal. In the end, after trying out 20 earbuds, I kept the Master & Dynamic MW09. But they’re sold out everywhere now. If you want to pursue those, check out my review in my post history.

So my Soundcore Liberty Air 2 Pro of almost 4 years have failed (the left side) and I need a new pair of earbuds and wanted a bit of step-up. I first purchased a Sennheiser Momentum 4 True Wireless, but I wasn't satisfied with it, I've sent it back. It was the same with the Sony WF-1000XM5, ANC didn't work at all. For the Sennheiser: Pros: very comfortable, good fit, nice touch control feedback, ANC is really good at lower frequencies. Cons: didn't like the sound, even with equalizer, too much high frequency. ANC let through the higher frequencies in the gym with basically 0 attenuation. Laggy app, but not so bad. Least important thing, material wise it wasn't the best. It might have been a bit malfunctioning, I'm not sure. I wouldn't expect a Sennheiser to sound this bad. Sony: Pros: better sound with equalizer (not so much better than my old soundcore), bit better materials used. Cons: Everything else. Very uncomfortable for my ears, it hurt even for smaller time periods. App is very bad visual wise, lack of touch control customization. Non-existent ANC (I head everything the same way with ANC on and taking ot the earbuds, tested it in different scenario). I know of the Jabra too, I would prefer touch control over buttons but after all this, I could live with that. Current Soundcore lineup isn't looking too good. For my old Soundcore: fit wasn't the very best (not bad either), sound was good, app is awesome, ANC was okay, case and material the best so far. It was maybe 110-120 euros back in the day. I thought a 200 euro would be a much greater step-up, but so far these 2 were a letdown. Thanks for any suggestion.

Although there is still some stigma around the brand, having tested dozens of TWS sets the Beats Fit Pro are one of the best, most secure fits for workout/exercise. The ANC is the worst of the Beats and Apple-branded earbuds, but sound quality is excellent and they will never fall out. Other options that are a good fit (depending on your ear shape), Sennheiser Momentum TW 4, Denon Perl Pro, and Sennheiser Momentum Sport -- the Sports are great and currently on sale, but they're not worth the price premium when not on sale, so that's the one caveat here. The Fits Pro represent a good overall value.

In the same price range, in order of sound quality, Denon Perl Pro (with AAT) Technics AZ80, and Sennheiser Momentum TW 4 (with Sound Personalization). In order of ANC/transparency performance, the MTW4, Perl Pro, AZ80. Because of app and feature set, I daily drive the MTW4, but without question the Denon’s are the better sounding set and the one I reach for if I’m just consuming media. My only gripe with the Perl Pros is the tips, which are too shallow for my tastes; I run them with the Divinus Velvets (if you change tips you’ll want to also rerun AAT). There are sets that are better from a pure sound quality perspective, like the Gemini II, but they’re not priced competitively and need some further revisions to codec, BT and application/feature set support before they’re ready for prime time. The Geminis reminded me a lot of the Levinson 5909, a phenomenal sounding set held back by the hardware and software included. Unfortunately, the APP2s are extremely difficult to beat from a pure value perspective (if you’re an iOS user). I still use them often during travel when I need the best ANC possible, but fit and other issues hold them back from being in my top 5. That, and Apple really needs to consider its prosumer customer base and provide access to some form of parametric EQ (something they’re unlikely to ever implement, sadly).

Yes, it’s currently in my top 3 and one of the best TWS where sound quality is concerned. They’ve seemingly fixed the problems with the M3 TW, including the problematic battery/charging issue.

I had to experiment with tips. I also turn off Immersion for most of my listening (except movie watching). Would recommend giving Divinus Velvet wide bore, or Dunu S&S a try; run AAT each time you change tips as well, as that will change the correction. Then in the EQ I adjust mids and treble to add more energy to taste and actually scale back the bass -1-2db if it’s needed. The best approach with the Perl Pros is to use both AAT as a corrective parametric EQ and then use multiband for fine tuning to preferences. Edit: to be fair, I still run the MTW4 most of the time. It still sounds excellent, especially with metal, hip hop, EDM and other genres that work well with a more V-shaped tuning.

Good clarification. I have Immersion set to +0, so technically at baseline. If I had to guess, Immersion is just a simple low shelf filter, so at 0 it should have no impact on the frequency response. I do think the Perl Pros have a more clear and detailed tuning, with better staging and slightly better imaging to my ear, but I have the same sentiment as you. While there are aspects of the tuning that are objectively better, I still prefer the sound, the warmth and the energy, of the MTW4. It just has more of a soul, to put it bluntly. That said, if I’m watching movies, it’s the Perl Pros with Immersion on, almost every time.

I would always go for a dedicated TWS like the Denon Perl Pro, Technics AZ80, or Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4, with the Creative BT-W5 before any of the “gaming earbuds.” Of your list, I’ve either owned or tested many of these and the VR P10 is the best bang for your buck of all of them. The additional dongle feature works very well; I have one for all of my devices, and switching is easy. Sony’s buds do work well with their platform (and the Portal), but they are simply too pricey for the quality of the tuning and feature set. The only other option I would consider is Steelseries, just given the access to a very wide database of EQ profiles; you’ll likely find one that works for you, and Steelseries has done a genuinely decent job at emulating a parametric EQ in their Sonar app.

Best will depend on your preferences, and whether you value comfort, ANC, or sound quality. Here's my personal shortlist, having tested dozens of these sets in the past few years: **Sound quality:** Denon Perl Pro (with AAT), Technics AZ80, Sennheiser Momentum 4 (with Sound Personalization), AirPods Pro 2, Sony WF-1000XM5s (with personalized EQ, Clearbass set to off), Beats Studio Buds+/Beats Studio Buds, Beats Fit Pros, Bose QC Ultra **ANC:** Bose QC Ultra, AirPods Pro 2, Sony WF-1000XM5s, Sennheiser Momentum 4s, Technics AZ80, Denon Perl Pro, Beats Studio Buds+, Beats Fit Pro, Beats Studio Buds **Comfort:** Beats Studio Buds+/Beats Studio Buds, Sony WF-1000XM5s (with Dunu S&S tips), Denon Perl Pro, Bose QC Ultra, Sennheiser Momentum 4s (very dependent on concha; ranked higher if you have larger ears), Technics AZ80 (another one that depends more on outer ear physiology) Any buds with a "locking" mechanism, or small ear hook, is very dependent on your individual ears. The Momentum's take this a step further, actually locking in behind your antihelix, resting in your concha. If these fit you, they're one of the most secure and comfortable fits on the market. They rank higher for me because they fit well, but are lower on my list because I think this can vary dramatically by person. For sound quality, I've gone back and forth between the Perl Pros and AZ80s on which sounds best. I used to rank the AZ80s higher, but I have a second AAT profile for the Denons, with Immersion at a +2, that handily beats the AZ80s. This could be due to the initial AAT profile being poorly done -- and yet, still somehow performed better than most of my other sets. With that profile, the Denon's compete with some of my midfi IEMs. They are exceptionally good. The Devialet Gemini IIs are also excellent, but are well outside of your budget and, honestly, not worth the investment. Gemini IIIs may be, if they improve codecs, BT support, etc. Don't sleep on the Beats brand of earbuds; for the price, they are genuinely great sets. The Buds+ are very good performers and the most comfortable set I own. With the Spinfit Omnis, these disappear in my ears. ANC is solid, transparency is serviceable. Sound quality is very good. The Fits Pros are the best option if you're active; one of the best "secure" fits out of dozens of buds, second only to the Powerbeats Pros. The Beats brand gets a lot of eye rolls due to brand stigma, but I don't care about the label on the box. If something works well for its intended use, I'll buy it. In this case, depending on the sales, the Buds+ can be an exceptionally good value. I did not include the device manufacturer earbuds on my list, like the Galaxy and Pixel Buds Pros; these are honestly excellent sets in their own right, but I do not use the devices they're most integrated with and thus I cannot test them fully so it's hard to do a fair comparison. But if you use those devices, they are also great -- and cheap -- options. For my part, I ended up daily driving the Sennheiser Momentum TW 4s; although it's not at the top of any of my lists, it is the best all around performer, getting close to the sound quality of the Technics and Denons, ANC that's nearly as good as the Sony's, but with an app and features that are more robust (and with better UX) than the Technics and Denon apps. On the whole, it's my favorite set to use for work and travel, some light media consumption, and around the house use. However, if I don't want to pull out one of my wired IEM, but I want to listen to music or other media and have the best possible experience, it's the Denons or Technics.

The best buds are the iFi Go Pods with a pair of dedicated IEMs. I'm running them with the Theiaudio Hype 4 For traditional earbuds, my personal ranking list: Technics AZ80 > Denon Perl Pro > Sennheiser Momentum TW 4 (w/ Sound Personalization) > Sony Linkbuds S > AirPods Pro 2 > Sony XM5 > Galaxy Buds2 Pro > Beats Studio Buds+/Beats Fit Pro > Powerbeats Pro I end up daily driving the Momentum 4s most days, just given their ANC/Transparency is competitive with other sets, and the app is fairly solid. Sound quality alone, toss up between the AZ80 and Perl Pro.

This is marketing and brand reach doing what it does best. There are plenty of brands doing great things in the market that aren't getting a lot of attention. JLAB's Epic Lab earbuds were fantastic; JBL, Moondrop, Nothing Ear, SoundPeats, numerous other brands tested very well against the top of my list, which consisted of the Denon Perl Pro, Technics AZ80, Sennheiser True Wireless Momentum 4, Sony XM5, AirPods Pro, B&W Pi7 S2 and Pi8. I have the AZ100s on the way, and I'm sure they'll occupy one of those top spots. It's important to note, however, that many of these brands do not need to push as many units to remain successful. At the economies of scale companies like Sony, Sennheiser, and Bose are operating at, the investment into their production, distribution, customer service, and operations pipelines is immense. They are likely expecting to sell tens of thousands of units, to the thousands that other brands need to turn a profit. And while you may see those more prolific brands everywhere, don't forget the communities of people on social media platforms that regularly market and recommend the opposing brands. They're not as common, but that's to be expected and will remain that way by nature. In other words, while the popular brands may be ubiquitous, that is by design. It doesn't mean opposing manufacturers are on a downward trajectory. This was the assumption when Jabra cancelled its TWS ANC lineup, and that may have been part of the decision, but Jabra had other, more profitable interests and chose to constrain their business goals around those interests because there was more opportunity there. As someone that's tested dozens of ANC earbuds (and has a wide ranging collection of dedicated, wired IEMs), I have very few biases when it comes to competing brands. If it works well, I'll use the thing. I have no qualms recommending a pair of Soundcore VR P10s, right alongside top-tier TWS sets if I think it fits the individual's use case. Recently, I took a long flight overseas and left all the other major TWS brands behind and took a cheap pair of PortaPros and a $20 pair of Aliexpress stem-style earbuds with me. Everyone else on the plane was wearing AirPods.

My ranking (pictured [here](https://imgur.com/a/tws-ranking-left-to-right-MBqgKk5)) based on sound quality, battery life, app, and features: MTW4 (w/ Sound Personalization) > Technics AZ100/AZ80 > Denon Perl Pro (w/ AAT) > B&W Pi8 > Devialet Gemini II > Sony XM5 > APP2 > Bose QC Ultra Sound quality isn't an empirical measurement. It will be based on preference. Most TWS within a certain price range aren't going to suffer from "qualitative" issues and will all perform well, but will be tuned very differently from one another. Recency bias also plays a major role in recommendations within the community, so keep that in mind. MTW4 with SP was the best balance of tuning, battery life, features, and user experience for me, and is my typical go-to. I'm also a fan of rock/metal and hip hop, thus a set like the AZ100, which excels in many other areas -- including battery life and ANC -- and beats the MTW4 in some genres, gets ranked lower as the timbre and tonality in genres with high gain guitars is lacking. It's as if Technics applied a high shelf filter and rounded off the treble, which diminishes some of the dynamics and energy/attack of guitar-based tracks. AZ80 is better in this regard, but a downgrade in ANC and battery life. The Perl Pro sound stellar with AAT, but AAT can be hit or miss for some and is very tip dependent. AAT *should* be used in conjunction with EQ to get the most out of the Perl Pros -- something many users miss, as AAT is correction, not intended as a replacement EQ -- and I'd recommend looking at alternative tips like the Dunu S&S, Divinus Velvet, Spinfit Omni/Neo, etc. B&W Pi8 sounds very good, but is a bit too neutral for my tastes. It was also plagued with connectivity issues. I replaced my original unit, and had the same problems, so that set is rarely used. I know a lot of users that swear by this set, but it was not near the top of my list even without considering the connectivity issues. EQ could not fix my issues with the tuning; in some cases, it introduced sibilance. Outside of ANC, the Bose QC Ultra is at the bottom of my list. And to be fair, that list is much larger than what was pictured above as I have tested dozens of TWS sets. The tuning of the Bose is just not for me, but I know other hobbyists that swear by it. The ANC is world class, however. One of the few sets I quickly returned as I had no interest in keeping it around, even to collect dust. TLDR; this is very subjective, and I wouldn't recommend basing your buying decision on one user or reviewer's opinion unless you know your preferences align -- and even then, you may be disappointed with the results. If sound quality is your one and only goal, there are better options. Even the best TWS in my rotation will rarely beat out a dedicated IEM, running on something like the Q5k, iFi Go Pods, or the FiiO UTWS5 -- the former and the latter both have access to EQ. Unless I need ANC or TWS features, this is what I use the majority of the time.

Sony and Bose are still the leads if ANC is your main priority. However, they are much further down the list if you're prioritizing sound quality/tuning. My current list consists of the Denon Perl Pros, Technics AZ100s/AZ80s, Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4, Bowers & Wilkins Pi8, and a few other budget options. The Devialet Gemini II and Noble Audio Rex5 are both pricier sets, but the Gemini II -- while it's an excellent sounding earbud -- had several issues that held it back for me. The deal breaker in my case was latency, which was quite high even for a TWS. The Rex5 is the best earbud Noble has put out thus far, but they need to make improvements to their app and overall user experience. My current rotation looks something like the AZ100s, MTW4 and Denon Perl Pro, as each provides a good overall balance of battery life, sound quality, and features. The AZ100s have excellent ANC, that gets close to competing with Sony and Bose, but is a slight downgrade in some areas of the frequency response compared to the AZ80s. The battery life is excellent, however, which makes them a contender as my main travel earbud. The Denon Perl Pros with AAT can be one of the best sounding buds on the market, but AAT can be hit or miss for some and is very tip dependent -- and I do suggest you change the tips, to something like the Dunu S&S. The Perl Pros also offer an EQ over the top of the AAT correction, which is a nice touch. I still reach for the MTW4 a lot of the time as well; with Sound Personalization it is still one of the best sounding earbuds on the market, with very solid ANC and transparency. I was not as sold on the Pi8, although I found the "case as transmitter" feature much more useful than I originally thought. I preferred the bass response of the Pi7 S2. In general the Pi8 feels a bit safer, and a bit more boring, for lack of a better word. It is still an excellent sounding earbud if you prefer a more balanced, more neutral tuning that prioritizes clarity and detail. I tend to lean towards warmth and energy, and so it didn't quite make the top of my list. TLDR; if money is no object, buy a BT dongle DAC/Amp or ifi Go Pods/FiiO BT ear hooks and a pair of dedicated IEMs. For now, this market is still juggling a "winner" and you'll be hard pressed to decide what is the best for the price -- no matter if it comes at a premium.

Sound: Sennheiser's Momentum lineup, Denon Perl Pros, Technics AZ80/AZ100, and B&W Pi8, in that order (taking into account Sound Personalization and AAT are being used). Everything else on the market, from the typical brands, falls below that line -- APP2, XM5, Bose QC Ultra, etc. Longevity, having tested dozens of these sets, the AirPods Pros are likely to outlast most of the other brands (my first and second gens are still charging well without any discernible issues). I've had battery and charging issues with the XM4s and XM5s, Sennheiser's MTW3 (MTW4 hasn't been on the market long enough to know whether there are any battery longevity issues); Denon is already showing serious battery degradation issues; Technics are in the charging issue camp as well (one or both earbuds often do not charge and need to be reseated often, similar to the Sony's); Pi8 has intermittent connectivity issues. The list goes on. There are outliers like the JLAB Epic Lab Edition, which have excellent battery life and seem to hold up well over time. Surprisingly, these are some of the best sounding and longest lasting buds on the market, for sometimes half the price of competitors. It can't compete with the top brands on tuning, but it gets damn close for the price. At some point, chasing sound quality (and longevity) begs the question, should you just sacrifice wireless connectivity and choose a traditional IEM? Despite owning most of the current premium earbud lineup, I find myself recommending and often daily driving the Epic Labs -- just due to the convenience of the battery life alone. And if that battery starts to degrade, there's enough overhead where I could still potentially get a good amount of time out of them before the issues are untenable.

Apple AirPods Pro are near the bottom of my list for sound quality. Their value is in feature set and ecosystem integration. It no longer owns the top spot in ANC, which goes to the Bose QC Ultra. If you want the best earbuds for sound quality and balance of features, Denon Perl Pro with AAT, Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 with Sound Personalization, Technics AZ100, Technics AZ80, Bowers & Wilkins Pi8, Pi7 S2, and the Sony WF-1000XM5. In that order. If you need a cheaper option, the JLab Epic Lab Edition is a great “budget” option. I don’t own the JBL sets, but I’ve heard good things. Which buds you choose should be based on personal preference. If I preferred a more neutral tuning, the Pi8 would probably be higher on my list. I prefer JM-1 or V-shaped tunings, with strong low frequency emphasis, and bright, clear treble. The best overall performer if you places ANC and sound quality on the same scale would be either the AZ100 or MTW4. Both have solid ANC, with the AZ100 coming out ahead, but the MTW4 beating the Technics in tuning due to the AZ100s strange upper mid/treble timbre. Anything below the JLab, you’d need to reassess your expectations. Some sets have decent enough sound quality, but below a certain budget you’d might as well shoot for a dedicated IEM and something like a Qudelix 5k for your wireless connection.

Excellent sound quality and decent ANC for the price.

Yeah, then Perl Pro or MTW4 are the best options. Make sure you run AAT with the Perls and Sound Personalization with the MTW4 for the best sound quality. Both are considerably more powerful than the basic multi-band EQ, and Perl Pro lets you use EQ on top of AAT correction.

My thoughts exactly. Sound quality isn't bad, comparable to my Sony wf-1000xm5 as both offer sound personalization through their apps. However the MTW4s are top heavy and easily dislodged. Also an annoying thing that I don't see mentioned, if you cover the mics while you are putting them in your ear you get a high pitched whistling/whining sound. https://www.reddit.com/r/sennheiser/comments/1br9bie/momentum_true_wireless_4_whistlehigh_pitch_noise/

A few things that help in th call performance is CVC hd call noise red. HFP offers fast transmission and strong connection and call quality.

Something is ungluing inside, like parts of drivers and connections. Always crackling. First left bud died after 9 months then 4 months later right died. Receiving MTW4 tomorrow but want to sell them for 250 cad and get something else. Had at least 10 different pairs of Sennheiser headphones that were wired and i didnt have a problem except for HD650 that had faulty headphone wires... After Sonova took over Sennheiser the whole company went to the bin...

If money is no object and sound quality is a priority I'd go even a category higher; B&O BeoPlay EX B&W Pi7 S2 Denon PerL Pro You do hit diminishing returns when it comes to sound quality but these do sound a step above the rest, alongside the Momentum True Wireless 4 and the Technics AZ80. I wouldn't trust Medium for earbud reviews since it's a blog site; I personally really like Aaron X Loud N Wireless's site[Aaron X Loud N Wireless's site](https://www.loudnwireless.com/), because he posts his binaural recordings of earbuds using the same track and allows for side by side comparisons on his website. Provided that OP already has a pair of earbuds, they can then compare the different pairs of earbuds for differences in tuning and tonality.

Recently, I was testing tws earbuds, and the best picks are (;tldr) Technics AZ80, Denon Perl Pro or Devialet Gemini II. More detailed read: (remember, with headphones everyting is individual and based only on my own impressions, YMMV) Sony WF-1000XM5 – comfortable, excellent ANC, but the sound is very weak, with huge bass bleed into the mids; everything is muffled, and nothing has changed at Sony. I honestly don't understand what people see in the XM line. Bang & Olufsen EX – ANC is poor, almost as if it weren't there, despite the positive reviews online. I'm disappointed with the sound. They probably would have been fine a few years ago, but now there are cheaper and better headphones on the market. The price includes the B&O tax. Nothing Ear (2) 2024 – Big surprise. Cheap price, sounds better than Sony or B&O, they doesn't resonate when walking, ANC is okay (70% of Sony's), comfortable, great app, good connectivity, looks great. The sound is slightly V-shaped, but it doesn't lack clarity, brilliance, and balance. Galaxy Buds Pro - Harman tuning, overall disappointed with them. I expected a lot more for the money with AKG and Samsung's background. ANC is okay, the sound is very dry and clear, but they are comfortable. They are the kind of AirPods for Samsung users who will be satisfied with a fairly boring sound, but otherwise not much. Perfect for audiobooks and podcasts. Sennheiser Momentum TWS4 – I had a lot of faith in them, but I'm disappointed. Weak ANC, not great tuning, but above all, they sit very strangely in the ear, and I've tried many aftermarket earpieces. The sound is nothing special; even "Nothing" is much better. Technics AZ80 - Fantastic!! I wouldn’t hesitate to call them “audiophile TWS headphones.” The ANC is decent; they are comfortable, don’t resonate when walking or running, the app is very detailed, and the sound is simply brilliant. They play the entire spectrum of details, and they are fun. A great buy with a mature sound, almost like wired headphones, and they have a great soundstage. Given the LDAC, these are the best. Denon Perl Pro - My favorites in the sound department, but they are far from "the best" in everything else. They look crazy, but in fact, they are comfortable; you just have these sorts of plates on your ears ("in front of your ears"). But the sound is uncompromisingly perfect. The whole spectrum of details; they are fun, musical, and they have excellent technology for custom tuning with regard to hearing defects and the shape of the ear. It is phenomenal and it really works. It's not that strict neutral hi-fi, but rather a fun hi-fi that gets you moving and has body. Buts? Cheap charging box, they don't suit everyone (short stems), ANC is weak, passthrough is bad, but you'll forgive them everything once you start listening to them. They have such an effect that when you start playing songs on shuffle from a selection of your 1000 favorite tracks, a song you've already heard a hundred times and you don't really enjoy it anymore, you'll let it play because it will simply be fun again through these. Devialet Gemini II—I'll refer to the Denon Perl Pro as they have a lot in common. It's actually really hard to choose between them. If the Denon Perl Pro are a 9.5/10 to me sonically, then these are a 9/10 (the 10/10 goes to Technics if you don't listen purely to EDM and want that juicy low end). They are actually great, dense, tunable, fun, with a lot of details. They are diminished a bit by codecs, and that's a shame, but in the end, it doesn't matter to a lot of people. The reason they are not 10 out of 10 is purely because the Perl Pro simply has a little extra "magic" and they lack the clarity of Technics. With Perl Pros, I don't know if it's the technology compensating for age, hearing quality, and ear shape, but Denon's have mojo; these are "just great." But I was just talking about sound for now. Where the Denon's ANC is 5/10, the Devialet's are, without exaggeration, at the level of the best on the market. Plus, they add technology to deal with impact sounds and wind, and both work perfectly. And without negative pressure or unpleasant feelings. For me, Devialet simply has the TOP ANC on the market at the level of Sony, Bose, or Apple. The same goes for passthrough; it's like you don't have headphones on, really cool. Furthermore, the build quality is great, they're "small," they're comfortable to wear, there are numerous settings in the app, and they're easy to control - Geminis can justify its high price. I would get Technics if you can and want to use the LDAC codec and play your music at high bitrates. Also, they are not that bass-heavy; they sound almost analytical but fun nonetheless with an excellent soundstage. The Perl Pros are just magical, but they have their quirks. The Devialets are the "whole frickin' package" minus the codecs, so they will be absolutely fine with Spotify but they lack the magic of the Perl Pros or the sound quality of Technics. Edit: grammar

I would say the Bowers are not in the same class as Momentum 4 or QuietComfort Ultra. I'm slightly confused on exactly what Bose buds you had because I don't see a "QuietComfort Pro" anywhere. The QC has more sizes of ear tips and fins, plus the tips are oblong (not round) which, some people find more comfortable. The QC will probably sound better overall to you, especially if you listen to bass rich music. Alternatively, the Momentum have a less bass heavy, more neutral sound suited to a wider range of genres. As for which is better for activity and travel it's a toss up. The Momentum have better overall noise isolation but don't block out low sounds (like engines) quite as well. However, the Momentum have a better mic and IP54 protection against dust and water splashes, whereas the Bose is only rated IPX4 (no dust protection). If you had the QC or QC II, I'd say try the QC Ultra. If you had the QC Ultra, I'd say try the Momentum 4. https://www.rtings.com/headphones/tools/compare/bose-quietcomfort-ultra-earbuds-truly-wireless-vs-sennheiser-momentum-true-wireless-4/44628/49892

No: Verdict: Not very good \- Encountered pairing issues on all my devices and platforms (Windows, Linux, Android), very unreliable but workable -> workable is not acceptable at this price point \- Both ANC and transparancy mode produce annoying side-effects like continuous high-pitched tones, crackling noise, etc. -> I only bought the earbuds for the sound quality, but the fact that that earbuds support these features cause the biggest issue I have with the earbuds as listed below \- For people that have not lost their hearing yet and can still hear very high-pitched noises, these earbuds produce a constant high-pitched sound even when both ANC and transparancy mode are disabled. This sound is amplified greatly when transparancy mode is enabled so I guess it's related to that feature \- The delay in sound is very noticable when gaming, even when gaming on low-latency mode, but that seems to be a problem for all wireless earbuds Some good points: \- Sound quality is good for wireless earbuds \- They fit comfortably when you replace the stock plugs with higher quality ones All in all, a very subpar product for the price. I would expect the issues stated above for earbuds at 100$ or below.

I love my tws 4's for listening to music around the house or at lunch at work but i could just never get these to be comfortable enough for daily commutes or walking around earbuds even though the sound is incredible. I've actually found myself using my galaxy buds 3 pro for daily usage because they are just so dang comfortable and work great with my s23. The sound isnt quiiiiiite what the sennheisers can do but i'll trade the sound for the much better comfort and the million miles better microphone for phone calls. Outside of the buds 3 pro Ive found myself rotating between my sony xm5s and my nothing ears quite a bit lately. The bass on the nothings is fantastic and i really like the sound they can push out with heavier faster music like deathcore, gabber, hard techno and such. On days when i'm feeling more chill the sonys will have a bigger 'fuller' sound.

If you want to use it on a windows system I don't think it'll work, I've been able to connect mine but without an equalizer the sound quality is horrendous. The sound with the app and it properly fit in your ear seems good to me, but I don't really have a reference either.

Honestly, I love that brand too much to mind. I’m fine with it, and I hope they keep refining the product with each new generation. Such an amazing audio experience and signature come at a price. I just hope I don’t have any issues until the fifth generation is out, and when it is, I’ll buy them again, haha

I think they sound pretty bad compared to most buds...call me biased, but I actually prefer the JBL tuning for music and I tried a few, including the Momentum 3 & 4... I got them for $100 sealed so...it's okay. Interestingly, despite being smaller are less comfortable to sleep with and fall out of my ears quicker than the PBP1... I also find that when sweat...they tend to slide out of my ears. Haven't found yet the perfect buds. What I appreciate the most: -transparency ( seems that nobody is challenging this) - case ( wished more manufacturers would make a case as small as this and as well balanced and shaped... But again...sound quality... pretty bad, sorry...

I've had the momentum 4 wireless earbuds for about a semester in college now, and one of them has completely stopped working. Looked it up, apparently the right earbud is notorious for just ceasing functionality at random. My friend had the same issue before I had bought them and had assumed it to be a fluke or that he had damaged them, but it turns out it's a big issue I have to recommend against them for that reason. I also have to say, the sound quality is not all it's chalked up to be - they have a pretty bad eq in the 15k hz range and aboveand the stereo profile doesn't feel very wide. They definitely sound really good overall though and I didn't really have any complaints once I got used to them, but still they get way too much credit in my opinion. I had bought them after my airpods pro 2s had finally stopped working after a couple years, and was kind of disappointed off the bat as I find the airpods to have a much cleaner sound profile, as well as extremely better noise cancellation and passthrough, and a more comfortable fit in my ears. After adding a small eq to my airpods I was even able to use them to mix and master some of my music while I was out of the country, and while obviously it's not as good as studio headphones, I have tried several times with the momentums and it's considerably harder due to the uneven frequency response. Can't speak to the sony or galaxy earbuds, but at least can recommend against the sennheisers and would honestly recommend you look into airpods, even if you don't have apple devices.

The bass rolled over into the mids too much and instrument separation was terrible. I had momemtum 2 and 3s, had two pairs or 2, and one pair of the 3, all had the same battery failure. I'm sure the momemtum 4 sound good but I'm not wasting my time or money again on sennheiser. So far the denon are the best sounding earbuds I've listened to. I've had mtw 1 2 3 and now the 4s. Think I might bite the bullet and get the bower wilkins pi8. So pissed off.

I’m not sure on what version they’re on, but my Sennheiser Momentum TW’s are going strong and are class for everything - travel and running included. I even washed them accidentally and still worked perfectly fine afterwards. Pricey but definitely worth buying for a lot as opposed to repeatedly buying cheap.

i have xm4, liberty 3 pro, soundpeats, earfun, sennheiser momentum and I recently picked up Aviot TE-DO1v. Although the aviot TE lack features to XM4 and liberty 3 pros. The sound quality is amazing, it blows all my other ear buds out of the water. It's very underrated, and I believe it will remain underrated because nobody really knows about it or want to take a chance to give them a listen. I'm assuming the TE-ZX1 will sound just as good but with more rich features like the popular flagship earbuds such as sony, sennheiser, apple and etc.

r/headphones • Has anyone had any experience with Aviot TE-ZX1: Apparently these 49500 yen TWS earbuds debuting in Japan this year is the world's first 5-driver TWS earbuds: 1x10mm dynamic driver + 1x6mm planar magnetic + 3xKnowles balanced armature. Also runs on 5.3 Bluetooth with AAC, SBC and LDAC codecs. ->

I did test a lot of in-ears. Here is my findings: AirPods Pro are kings for phone calls. Sennheiser Momentum are really great all-around. Like, they are pushing really high in each category Bose for noice cancelation MontBlanc if you want the most amazing sound (nothing else gets even close to them, imo). I ended up with MTB, even though they lack in many other areas. Otherwise I cant say anything bad about sennheisers, such a complete product

I know this is a "buy" thread but wanted to save you from pouring money into Sennheiser Momentum any model. Very reliably unreliable....having two pairs replaced under warranty and still failed on the third.

These are really impressive ear buds. Second pair of ear buds I've owned and they're so much better than my first (Sennheiser MTWs). Decent sound quality, long battery life, can connect to two devices at once, connect quickly, software isn't terrible, and BEST OF ALL you can use either side by itself (my last pair requires you have the right side in to use the left one). Then again, I also got them basically BNIB from Amazon at $150 so that may affect how enthusiastic about them I am.

Person who actually listens to music here, and cares about headphones. Technics AZ100s are absolutely stellar - get them. Oppo Enco X3s (when you are able to buy them in the UK) are cheaper, but absolutely superb. The X2s are some of my favourite ever earbuds. Sennheiser momentums are also very good. Bose quiet comforts are decent but quality wise don't keep up with the above three. Airpods are overpriced and are whitegirl apple product bait. The Sony earbuds noise cancelling is weak and the case battery fails after 12 months for a lot of people.

Sennheiser Momentum TWS. It even fits perfectly in the pouch that came with the deck, and fits snugly in the space behind the elastic at the bottom of the case.

Sennheiser momentum, on offer now for less than £200, were 300 when they came out. Theyre somehow better than my big bose quietcomfort pair

I find them pretty comfortable, actually. Personally, I prefer them to the Sennheiser ones. They don't disappear in your ear quite like Airpods or Pixel Buds, so there's a slight pressure feeling at first. But with the Sennheiser TW, I actually had earaches, so these are way better for me." Edit: i Hope i understood your question correctly, my English isn't that good

Sennheiser True Wireless Buds and QCY Ailybuds Pro+.. I prefer the Qcys because they are semi inear which fits better to ne and the nc is working nice for that budget earbud. Also the Call quality is better than sennheisers in my opinion ✌🏼
