I would rate Opendots One slightly more secure the Bose Ultra Open ... They are very secure and will not come off my ears during work out. ... Way more secure than my Samsung Buds3 Pro."

"The audio is also 20% better with OpenDots One, as they have dual drivers on each side. ... At 50% volume and below, I would say I could not distinguish the audio quality compare to my semi in ear buds. ... If you are just listening to podcast and non heavy bass music, even at high volume, the quality is very good and it could easily drown the surrounding noise (somewhat ANC). ... it's far better in sound quality and comfort compared to the C40i. ... these are worth the upgrade based on audio, comfort and call quality."

"Staying place feel the OpenDots are far more secure. ... I had them on while cutting grass on riding mower. Tree branch smacked side of my head. Thought it was a goner for sure. It stayed in place."

I have had Bose QC25, Bose QC35, Shokz OpenSwim Pro, Shokz OpenRun Pro, Shokz Aeropex, Shokz Open Fit 2, Shokz Open Fit 1, several different beats and then these 2 pairs and these are hands down the worst 2 for phone calls."

Very comfortable, especially compared to AirPods. In-ear ear buds make my ear canal very itchy and irritated, even when I'm not using them. Since switching over to these, that's all gone away. I use them for 1 to 2 hours a day and charge the case a couple times a week, so I haven't pushed the batteries too far.

I've been testing out a few different clip-style open buds this week, and my favorites have been the Soundcore Aeroclip. I just received the Shokz Opendots One, so I'm doing some A/B comparisons with the Aeroclip. For me, the Opendots One are probably a little more comfortable. They both grip confidently, but the Aeroclip are slightly tighter feeling whereas the Opendots One feel a little more gentle. In terms of sound, for my ears, I honestly prefer the Aeroclip. The Opendots One are a bit louder, but music sounds a little more boxed-in and less dynamic to me. I tried with and without Dolby mode on, with a similar "V-shaped" custom EQ on both. Dolby mode makes things sound more expansive, but I feel like I'm losing a bit of highs & lows with it on. Maybe better for movies than music. Perhaps it's just that with the shape of my ears, the drivers are more accurately directed with the Aeroclip.

Ok I’ve been using both of these buds for 2 months now because I couldn’t decide without a real world case study so I bought pairs of each on eBay for around $150 each. For the record I am NOT an affiliate marketer or anything like that. This is not a paid review or anything. I just had a hard time deciding so I figured I would try them both out. SPOILER: It has been REALLY TOUGH to decide which pair I want to keep because they are so similar and both have good and bad things about them. Background on me and my usage. I am very particular about audio and comfort. Was looking for a lightweight pair of bud style headphones for me to use while working outside, around the house, quick errands, or in the office but wanted to make sure they had good to great audio quality. I listen to a ton of audiobooks as well. Here is what I did: I rated several items on a 0-5 scale based on direct comparison of these 2 models. 0 just means it doesn’t have that feature or requires an additional purchase (wireless charging case for Bose for example). 1 means it is a yes/no answer or something that performed poorly. 5 means it is damn near perfect. Bose Battery - 3 Phone Calls - 3 Multi-Point Pairing - 1 (yes) Audio Quality (Music) - 5 Audio Quality (Podcasts/Books) - 3 Wireless Charging - 0 Smart Wear (Buds automatically detect which ear) - 0 Comfort - 3 Transparency - 3 Volume - 4 Physical Buttons - 1 (yes…I prefer physical buttons) Total Score 26 Shokz Battery - 5 Phone Calls - 2 Multi-Point Pairing - 1 Audio Quality (Music) - 3 Audio Quality (Podcasts/Books) - 4 Wireless Charging - 1 (Yes) Smart Wear (Buds automatically detect which ear) - 1 (Yes and this is a very cool feature that is pretty nice) Comfort - 4 Transparency - 3 Volume - 3 Physical Buttons - 0 Total Score 27 As you can tell, they are VERY VERY CLOSE. I’ve even pulled both pairs out while writing this post to listen to the same song and a passage from a book I am listening to in order to make sure I still feel the ratings are accurate 😂. The battery life is a massive difference. I worked outside and around the house for 10 hours Friday and the Shokz didn’t need to charge. I worked outside yesterday wearing the Bose for 5 hours and at about the 4 hour mark the left bud died and the right one followed suit about 20 minutes later. Both options had the Dolby/Immersive Audio turned on which does create a difference in the battery life but it cuts the Bose battery life in half and didn’t noticeably affect the Shokz’ battery life. I hadn’t noticed a big difference in the comfort of the 2 until yesterday as well. I never needed to mess with the Shokz but had to adjust the Bose a couple times where my ears got a little uncomfortable where they were sitting. The audio of the Bose for Music is noticeably better than the Shokz but the opposite is true on Podcasts and Audiobooks. It’s on par with their other buds and headphones. This is the only part of the headphones’ comparison where the Bose stood out and made me hesitate on selling the pair I’ve been using. Bose requires a wireless charging case that costs $50-$100 if that feature is important to you (it isn’t for me but is nice to slap it on my charging pad on my desk when I’m not using them). Be warned neither are very good for phone calls. Both had people on the other end of my calls telling me they had a hard time hearing me whenever there was any significant background noise. Maybe this will be addressed with a firmware update going forward but both of these are lagging the other headphones made by both of these companies in this regard. I think I’m going to keep the Shokz and sell the Bose because of the comfort and battery factors.

The open dots shokz are earbud style but still open. I have a pair! They sound awesome. They don’t block ANY outside noise so I found them challenging to use while biking because the wind was so loud o couldn’t hear my podcasts or music. They’re great for running especially in a more quiet neighborhood or wooded area where you really do want to hear everything to be safe. Battery life is good. They connect easily, they feel like nothing on your ears.

I have both the Opendots and Openfit (1 not 2), and I like the sound signature of the Opendots a little better, although I think Openfit is a slight bit more full. Since I don’t have the Openfit2, I can’t say for sure, but I would guess it sounds pretty darn close to the Opendots. In my opinion, the choice between those two doesn’t come down to sound quality (they’re both great), but rather fit and style. Opendots don’t interfere with my glasses at all, so that gives them an edge. I’ve found the Opendots easier to wear for longer periods of time. Either way, you win!

The touch controls on the Opendots One are not that impressive. All you can do is play/pause and change volume. I don’t use the touch controls, but prefer to “pinch” the battery compartment behind the ear. It’s more reliable. Hoping they’ll allow more customization in a future update. Update: see below--this has already been updated!

The only functions supported right now are play/pause, and raising/lowering the volume. It's not currently possible to skip to the previous/next track. Pinching the battery compartment with two fingers is the same as touching the clip with one finger. Two pinches or taps plays/pauses. A long touch or pinch raises or lowers the volume. The app indicates that you can customize the controls, but it currently only supports turning touch on or off. I'm hoping they'll add more options later--I can't see why they couldn't do that.

I just re-checked the app, and there's not much flexibility. Double-tap or double-pinch is only for play/pause, while long pressing can be used to change volume, use the voice assistant, or choose previous or next track. I wish Shokz would open this up more to allow us to determine what the gestures can do. I prefer to pinch or press the battery compartment rather than the band, especially while running. I'm never sure where to press on the band, so it's tough to get it to work. Pinching or pressing the battery is much better, although still not 100%.

Sorry but I just have to say, just cause something is loud and makes other noises hard to hear does not remotely make it ANC. ANC is a technology, not a phenomenon that happens. I have to agree though, while the Dots sound amazing they also hurt my ears after a few hours. Currently deciding b/w this and OpenFit 2. Did you end up keeping yours?

I have finally settled on the Shokz open dots ONE open earbuds. I have literally spent my whole life searching for these bad boys. Open buds so they don't cut me off from my surroundings. Still have great sound quality. Great mic for phone calls. Battery that lasts all day. I am seriously in love with these little powerhouses! I keep putting my Bose aside for these guys!

I have the Shokz open dots one and they are great for calls! They are open earbuds so you can still hear your surroundings, but I just took a call when I was out and about yesterday for the first time and they worked great! I've made several calls at home and they are stellar! My favorite buds I've ever had. I originally got a pair of Bose that sound great but have terrible call quality and battery life so those ones only get used at home now.

I've had mine for a bit now. I've noticed that the call quality has gone down since I got them. Now people always tell me I sound far away. Overall listening is great though. I also get the ear fatigue after a couple hours. But I think I just have a weird ear. Right now these are the go to, but still on the hunt for something that doesn't hurt my ear after an hour or two. Tried Aero Clips but they hurt even worse so they went back in for the the dots lol

Shokz OpenFit 2 would be my recommendation. They don’t fit in the ear but sit on the ear. Get pretty loud and very secure when running. They are very comfortable and even no issues laying on them. I would also say look into the opendots but they will be above your $200 after tax, but go for $199 If you have a Best Buy near you, they should have them on display to try as they don’t go in your ear.

**First**, I do believe that there are a lot of benefits of staying connected and present when playing (more thoughts below). If you **MUST**, anything open form, and my overall recommendation is the Shokz OpenDots One based on (a) relative sound quality over other open form earbuds, (b) comfortable and stable fit, (c) mic quality, and (d) ability to use while still hearing enough of outside world and wearable with sunglasses. Further details below. As noted, while not ideal IMO, if you are looking for outdoor earbuds that still allow environmental awareness, my go-to recommendation is the relatively new Shokz OpenDots One. They clip on the outside of your earlobe (looks like an earring). It holds on quite well (I’ve done the shake head test, and also use them extensively on my e-board, and have never lost one, have only ever come off when I am changing a shirt). They can be worn without getting in the way of hats or headbands and importantly when wearing eyeglasses or sunglasses, have decent-ish sound quality (of course, in-ear buds are better), and allow you to hear your surroundings. I prefer them to the Bose Open Ultras, which are more expensive and have maybe the WORST mic quality of any earbuds I have owned. Other pluses of OpenDots One over Bose Open Ultra: wireless charging, better case (secures shut better), less fussy charging (often the Bose Ultras will not fully connect, and you will unknowingly not charge one earbud), iffy connections sometimes with IOS devices (will randomly disconnect and reconnect where the Shokz OpenDots very rarely disconnects), and better total play time on a single charge (Bose has a horrible 7 hours). Another good option is the Oladance OWS 2, which is a good value for the price. However, these go OVER your earlobe, and if you wear glasses (in particular, thicker frames), the fit can be tricky, and I’ve had instances where I’ve worn them on my bike, and my helmet strap has jostled them and sent one earbud flying off. I’d recommend the OWS 2 over the more expensive OWS Pro, as the OWS 2 arguably has better sound and definitely fit better if you wear glasses (or need to wear sunglasses). Still, the earlobe clip versions are the best for when you want to wear eyewear. Also, the OWS 2’s standard case does not charge on its own (needs to be plugged in), and you need to purchase separately a case that can charge on the go…and this case is enormous (won’t fit in normal pant pockets, will need to go old school JNCO jeans to fit). Another option is going the bone conduction route, but honestly, these tend to tickle my inner ear at louder volumes, and the sound isn’t the best. As for pros, nothing beats the IP ratings of bone conduction, and they stay on quite easily as they go around the back of your head and kind of press onto the side of your head to stay on, while also clipping over your year. The Shokz Openrun line is pretty much at the top of most runners lists. I still have mine for when I was still running marathons, and I still keep them for office calls, as the Shokz mics are very good. The sound, however, of *any* bone conduction headphone is going to be materially inferior to just about *any other type of earbud*, although the relatively newer Shokz Openrun Pros are a vast improvement over the earlier iterations, and from what I understand over their competitors. Another plus, is that bone conduction has pretty minimal (read: no) bleed through leakage in terms of sound. With that said, as a glasses wearer and someone who needs sunglasses to properly see during any sunny day, the vibrations caused by the bone conduction tech can shake my glasses and create a funky sensation if not positioned 100% correctly. Also, I did notice that when I used the bone conduction headphones too much, I would get very itchy ears. Once I moved to open earbuds, these itchiness issues subsided. Finally, I do think there are a lot of benefits to staying connected to tennis. As you progress, you want to do everything you can to improve your reaction time to shots and the connection to the ball. Andy Roddick talks extensively about the minute cues that elite players will react to, which is why he dislikes auditory disruptions (but candidly, I feel sometimes both pro players and rec players are sometimes too sensitive to any minor external distraction). Still, you can pick up a lot based on auditory cues, e.g., on the serve (spin v. flat), topspin groundstrokes, or a mishit that can unexpectedly land short for an unintentional drop shot. For this reason, some players will use dampeners to take mitigate these auditory cues. For me, I like the softer thump with the RTP dampeners, but it is a nice plus that it disguises my spin serve (where I’ve tried my best over time to make my spin v. flat serve less obvious, or where I may do a low velocity spin serve but want to disguise the extent I am spinning the ball). I know that some players also like this auditory feedback to feel more connected to their shot. Thus, I typically only listen to anything or music when I am practicing my serves or running conditioning drills. Generally, I won’t even listen to music when I am running drills with a ball machine or against the wall. If anything, and you are playing outdoors, just bring a long a small portable speaker (JBL and UA makes those inexpensive clip on speakers). You are much more likely to still stay connected to the ball and to your opponent. Also, while a remote risk, I can only imagine if you didn’t hear your opponent call out and you proceed to blast a winner or OH in their direction. Even if it was inadvertent and you might have not heard it in time regardless of the earbuds, I am pretty sure that most players would be pretty pissed that you blasted a ball at full speed in their direction and would perceive it as being caused by the earbuds. I don’t like it much when a player who is notorious for not paying attention blasts a shot to my body after an “out” call, and I can only imagine how I would react if they were wearing earbuds, open or not.

I had the the OpenDots first and really liked them. I went with them because Bose was $100 more. For some reason the Opendots hurt my left ear over time and they seemed a little bulky. So I took them back when the Bose Ultra Open went on sale for $70 off. After wearing the Bose for a week. I felt like I was going to loose them. They crackle when wearing them watching TV when I turn my head. Felt as if something is hanging on my ear. They also caused my left ear to hurt. So that maybe my body anatomy. Both had great sound other than the crackling from the Bose. Staying place feel the OpenDots are far more secure. I had them on while cutting grass on riding mower. Tree branch smacked side of my head. Thought it was a goner for sure. It stayed in place. I have made up my mind the Bose are going back and I am going back to the OpenDots. I never made any calls with either. So can't say as far as that goes. Hope this helps.

I listen to a LOT of music (10+ hours daily). I also have a side gig recently where I get to audition a bunch of earbuds in exchange for honest reviews. Here's my take: There is a big difference between extreme budget grade (I'd call that the $10 to $50 range), and mid-range (the $150-ish price range). When you step up to the $300+ range of earbuds, you're getting diminishing returns in terms of performance, quality, and features. For someone on a budget, I'd say the $100 price range can get you something decent. For someone who wants something "good" in terms of performance and sound quality, I say the $150 to $250 range is the butter zone for price to performance. Stepping over $300 to the premium level only makes sense if you have a large budget, and trained ears looking for higher fidelity and acoustical nirvana. Personally I splurge on bigger name brands and find the build quality great for my needs - I can wear them for hours at a time, biking through rainstorms and such without concern or issues. Maybe it's because I keep my ears clean and keep my earbuds clean, but I really never have an issue with charging or earbuds dying. I have only ONCE had a charging case fail and that's my recent Shockz OpenDrops where one side of the case isn't charging. But I'm waiting to hear back from Shockz if it's covered under warranty. Fortunately I can charge both earbuds from the one side of the case so I simply keep swapping them around as needed lol.

Lol yeah I've been rocking my Shockz OpenDots for a few months. I always reach for them first in the morning, then when the battery is drained (about 5-6 hours later), I switch to my Aeroclips. Question for you - at max volume, do you notice a 'warble' sound to the bass notes on the OpenDots when it hits a low bass note? I only notice this issue at max volume. But at 50% or lower volumes, no warble - the sound quality is sufficient for my daily use around the office. I'm still trying to figure out if this warbling of the bass note is due to the bass driver clipping as the driver is bottoming out (doubtful based on the sound I'm hearing), or is it some sort of signal processing - maybe the software is trying to compensate somehow for higher volumes with limited travel on the drivers? My new Baesus XC1 (tuned by Bose, with LDAC protocols) are scheduled for delivery Wednesday (literally brand new earbuds, I preordered a month ago lol). I'm anxious to see how they will stack up against the Shockz OpenDots.

So I have mixed feelings about the XC1. I find the fit is a bit more 'loose' than other earclips I've handled. Not that it's going to fall off on their own, but I have them slide off my ears when trying to hit the physical button. That said performance wise they're pretty good. Bass is good enough at lower volumes, LDAC is a nice feature (if not a bit confusing to enable, took me a few tries to actually figure out that I had to enable LDAC in the bluetooth settings for the earbuds in addition to enabling in the Basesus app). My issue that I've experienced is that at max volume, the total power output seems to go quiet when the bass is hitting hard. When it's higher frequency notes, the sound is nice and loud, but as soon as the bass drops, it seems like the software turns down the volume slightly to compensate and protect the drivers or something. Either way that is VERY annoying and I haven't found a way to fix that. In my experience, I enjoy my Shockz OpenDots sound quality and volume, except those earclips do not have LDAC, and at max volume instead of turning down the volume the DSP adds some sort of "warble" to the bass and I can't figure out if it is intentional or simply a byproduct of the design for the low driver fluttering as it's bottoming out? I dunno So basically I love both my XC1 and Shockz OpenDots One at medium volumes. For bicycling outdoors when I need louder volumes, I think I'm going to stick with the OpenDots and deal with that annoying warble. But yeah, at max volume - I'm not "wowed" by these XC1 earclips. However given that I paid $109, I think it was a fair price for what you're getting

I previously used Bose Quietcomfort Ultra for working out, but I've recently switched to open-ear earclip style earbuds because they are extremely comfortable for all-day wear (literally sometimes forget I'm wearing them). I have the Shockz opendots one, the Soundcore Aeroclips, a few cheaper no-name models, and I've got the Baesus XC1 on preorder (really excited about them). They aren't the highest sound quality, but I'll trade off that for comfort and full open-ear design so I can actually hear the world around me (kinda important when cycling outdoors on the roads, and when working out in my gym)

r/Earbuds • What earbuds do you use for working out? ->

evilbadgrades • 2 months ago

I got my Aeroclips cheap (paid $75 for new unopened earbuds on ebay), and I scored a set of OpenDots One for free (company wanted some honest feedback for reviews online and I was happy to oblige). So that may affect my judgements a bit lol. From a style standpoint, I love my Soundcore Aeroclips - the white with silver bands is beautiful. Looks like a quality item. From a comfort standpoint I can wear them all day until the battery wears out. Call quality is great - I have had quite a few phone calls wearing these earbuds and never had a complaint. Sound quality is good overall, bass is obviously VERY lacking due to the design (I'm still on the quest for great bass at high volumes on any earclip earbuds). The Shockz OpenDots One have a few benefits over the Aeroclips - the band is more "flexible" - so if you find the Aeroclips uncomfortable, the OpenDots might be more comfortable. Both are comfortable to me, but I have seen one person remark that their aeroclips were not comfortable if worn for 3+ hours at a time. I don't have that issue with my ears. In my experience, the Shocks OpenDots seemed to have slightly better bass and slightly higher max volume - if you place the earclips in the proper spot. Unlike the aeroclips where the volume is always the same - it seems like you can "direct" the sound more into the ears with the OpenDots if desired by adjusting the "fit" of the earclips (rotating the earclip upwards away from your lobes seem to adjust the frequency response and max volume you hear with the earclips - I do not notice this change with my Aeroclips). In practice I find myself lately reaching for the OpenDots One first in the morning, and then switch over to the Aeroclips later in the day after the battery is drained on the OpenDots. I would say the sound quality is maybe marginally better on the OpenDots - HOWEVER there is one fatal flaw with the Shockz Opendots at max volume: Warbling. That's the best way I can describe the issue. I don't really know because I've never experienced this on another earbud. I suspect it's due to the dual-driver design. Basically, at 50% volume, the earclips sound GREAT. But if you crank the OpenDots One up to max volume, I hear a distinct "warbling" of the bass notes - it's almost as if the bass-driver is bottoming out due to excessive power output, or maybe it's the software failing to crossover properly between the two speakers in the earbud (lows and highs). I'm not certain but it's freaking annoying! So while I tend to grab the OpenDots first in the morning, that warble at max volume annoys me. So for playing music at max volume, I tend to prefer the Aeroclips currently. However I'm anxious to see how the Baesus new XC1 earclips stack up against these other two earclips because I've been a Bose guy for decades (literally been using Bose earbuds for my gym workouts for over 25 years - only recently started branching out into other brands for my fitness needs haha)

Have you tried earclip style earbuds? They clip around the side of your ear (clip is the wrong word - slide is more like it lol) - they looked extremely uncomfortable and I was dubious. But now they are basically the only earbuds I wear ALLL day long - literally I forget I'm wearing them sometimes! Earclips like the Shockz OpenDots One are what I'm talking about. They are awesome open-ear earclips which I love for my gym needs. But know that they do not have any noise cancelling functions.

I have both of them as well and I'd add one point to the review: Audio latency on initial playback: \- Bose: 1 \- Shokz: 4 The bose have anywhere between half a second to a second delay when audio playback starts. For things like phone notifications, language learning or navigation prompts that means you miss half of the first word up to the full word unless you're already playing some music or other audio in the background. The Shokz have a minimal delay as well but - in my tests - don't swallow any of the audio. (tested on an iPhone 15, MacBookAir M2 as well as a Windows11 PC)

I own the Bose Ultra Open earbuds ($299) and have the Shockz Dot one coming today (5-1-25). I will update here a specific opinion which is better if it helps anyone. My gut feeling is the Bose is going to sound better just b/c they are Bose and must be a reason for the double price tag but we will see. Like the Shockz battery life being longer at 10 hr, the better sweat protection, the L/R has not difference. Really like to see how the buttons work later today on Dot one. The volume control on Bose was a bad idea (up being right bud, left being lower volume). I hope the shocks can easily and always pause with a tap. skip to next track easily and maybe replay track (or go back). If anyone has these shocks one dot already can you comment on the button controls please? Also the APP for the Bose is the world's worst app ever and is unusable in all ways- had to be deleted but buds still work great w/o it.

Hi, Yes. So got the Shockz Dot One's today at 4pm and it is now 8pm- worn and tested for 4 hrs. Here is some feedback. First the APP- I will use "S" for Shocks" and "B" for Bose. S app, excellent, connected perfectly, great functions, settings, 1000 times better than B. The B app did not even work- had to fully delete. S app can see battery, change equalizer. win for S. The touch functions is a win for Bose here and I will tell you S missed something. For S, You can double tap to pause/play or pick another function or you can press the barrel like S BUT the way they designed it you CANNOT have all three of these: play/pause, skip/go back to track and VOLUME up/down. you can only have 2 of the 3. They are aware of this and seem fine for it to be that way- maybe a firmware update could see it but doubtful- I can do without volume/up down and just use my phone and be ok but Bose has all 3 so win for B. Design- this is where it gets interesting. I like the thinner one for S and it is all matte black vs B which is thicker and shinier. However the B it is kinda cool with the way it rolls onto you ear- but both feel light and hardly noticeable. B just feels a bit more premium. Sound is similar- I think with the S you get a bit louder and HERE IS WHY. The S earbuds ends are a bit bigger in the piece that goes in your ear so actually takes up a little bit more of your ear canal. I took pics of my wife earring both and you can see much more space with the B than the S. AS far as how this affects what you hear around you vs the music that I need to test on my bike but it seems the S gives a louder and more full sound because it;s in your ear more. Hope all this helps for now!!

Glad it was helpful. Big time use by now. few hours more yesterday, at work and bike ride today for 1 hour with helmet glasses 24 mph winds etc. As far as accidental touch inputs.. I did have a couple little ones very early on when I first got it. Could not really tell how/what was causing it the few times but I think this was before I strategically picked how I was going to play/pause and skip. Since I now have play/pause as double touch the side of buds and the skip track as hold the barrel behind ear, I have not had any accidental touch inputs and this is putting them on with helmet, straps glasses and multiple opportunities for it to happen. I would say. No problem there. You would need to pick how you want to get the things to work. PLEASE let me know if you are thinking of getting the BOSE Ultra Open. I just bought the black ones ($299+ tax) and if you want mine for SUPER cheap (like $95) I may get rid of them - lmk and I can give you my email to continue the talk, send pics etc. The Bose were real great too, just leaning towards the Dot ones at this point and do not want both.

Hi.. the good news is you are not correct- sorry and happy to tell you you absolutely can skip tracks fwd and back with the dot ones. In the app you can choose the setting. There is an option there for LONG press. It is a little confusing but in short, I have mine like this. Double tap the side to play/pause and long press barrel on right to skip fwd and long press left barely to go back a track. I can't raise or lower the volume because I chose the feature of track skip. You can't have both or in this case you cannot have all 3. kinda of a bummer but 2 of 3 is ok. The boy can do all 3 but app is 100% useless, less battery life and wider. Day 2 trial of dot ones tomorrow. keep the dialogue going!

UPDATE Sat 5-3-25. Now I have given the Open Dots a major test- this is more from an athlete cyclist point of view. Not just riding a bike on a path at 11mph but racing, riding within a fast group for 3 hrs today at 20-25mph speeds etc. FACT: there is def an issue (albeit small) with the touch sensitivity to play/pause. The one thing I can say in all the activity today is it did NOT have any times it play/paused on its own- meaning nothing hit it and caused it to do a function BUT double taping the side did not always work- I am coming from Air Pod Pros where 100% of the time you double press the pod it play and paused- it just always worked. Here, sometimes you double tap and nothing, other times perfect. Could be me trying to find the right spot early on, but over 3 hrs never really figured it out yet. Also maybe 3 times, I would double tap to pause the music (by the way I used the function tone and changed it from low to high to hear it better over the wind) and sometimes I would double tap to unpause and after the tone NO replay of music. I actually had to hit play on my phone. I will see if happens again. In short, I really ran this baby prob the most testing of anyone since they came out; maybe play/paused like 75 times today and I'd say Dot ones worked the way intended like 89% of the time. I also have the hold the barrel behind the ear to skip tracks and that seems to work all the time. I could switch it so the barrel play/pauses I think, but the double tap is much quicker- It's just like 90% baked! I am going to keep and sell my Bose Open Ultra for under $100 if anyone wants. If anyone has any more experiences or tips on the Dot Ones, please share- It seems the more you use it/know from others, the better the experience. Sun 5-4-25 Just put the Bose One ultras back on since it has been a few days just to see the buttons and changing functions. WOW did they really get it right especially after using the One Dot. For Bose- keeping it simple. nice tactile button on top of battery behind ear. 1 press play/pause, 2 presses skip tracks. Hold right vol +, hold left vol down. works evertime. For the Dots ones, the double taping the "joint arc" is an issue and then moves the bud a little bit (if you can get it right first time) and not consistent and the double tap of the battery is annoying, the tactic Bose button winner by far...

I've been using the Shoks OpenDots One for 2 weeks now. They're my first pair of open earphones. I have two use case scenarios for them: warehouse work and parent mode. At work, it's kinda like plugging my phone into the aux. I'm still able to hear my surroundings but some details in the music/podcast can be a bit hard to catch. While I'm at home, I can do things like wash the car and listen to music while still being aware of loud sounds or lack thereof. I also enjoy playing games at night with the earbuds in and have peace of mind knowing I'll hear my children if they wakeup. Battery lasts through my 8 hour workday. I sometimes charge them for a bit during 15min breaks. I would recommend them for someone who needs the awareness or doesn't like the feeling of in-ear tips.

As a longtime fan of open-style earbuds, I've tried everything from the Huawei FreeClip to the Soundcore AeroClip and even other Shokz models. The Shokz OpenDots One have quickly become my new favorite, excelling in the areas that matter most to me. The comfort is unmatched. They're so light you barely notice you're wearing them, a huge relief for anyone who hates that "clogged" feeling. Unlike the Soundcore AeroClip, which can get uncomfortable after a while, these are perfect for all-day wear. The open design also completely eliminates the thumping sound I experience with traditional earbuds when I'm walking, which is a big win. When it comes to performance, the OpenDots One deliver. The sound quality is excellent, with a surprisingly punchy bass for this style of earbud. Call quality is also top-notch; my voice came through clearly with no background noise. The controls are a major plus, offering more functionality and a more intuitive experience than the Huawei FreeClip and Soundcore AeroClip. Overall, the Shokz OpenDots One have truly impressed me. They combine superior comfort, great sound, and a user-friendly design into what feels like the best open-ear option on the market today.

Ok, inside the gigantic truck factory, I was told my voice is loud but garbled. The buds are trying their best to filter out so much but it's affecting my voice big time. Sometimes I sound a bit far away or muffled. One of the sentences I said took the person a second to comprehend what I was saying. Once I was outside, the caller said that I was crystal clear. Completely night and day. A tractor trailer just did a big u turn 10ft away from me and then reversed about 30 ft with beeping and the caller didn't hear a thing. As for me the volume was plenty loud and I heard the caller crystal clearb and I wasn't at max. That part beats out the Huawei freeclip.

That really sucks to hear about the call quality diminishing. My run in the factory wasn't too great yesterday either which is kind of a turn off. Even though they were great outside with normal traffic. My open fit 1 and 2 seems stellar with any interference. My plan is to sell them and to pick up a pair of the 2 plus. Which I already have on marketplace. I developed a little bit of fatigue today with the open Dot. One thing I loved about the open fit is that I always forget they're there because of their overhang style. I'm a sucker for Dolby and wireless charging lol

These are more comfortable than Aeroclip. I get a slight pain after 3hrs as the "arc" is stiffer on the AeroClip. The audio is also 20% better with OpenDots One, as they have dual drivers on each side. At 50% volume and below, I would say I could not distinguish the audio quality compare to my semi in ear buds. But when you start blasting above 70%, the bass gets slightly muddy, I would say all in ears will suffer from that. If you are just listening to podcast and non heavy bass music, even at high volume, the quality is very good and it could easily drown the surrounding noise (somewhat ANC).

Get the OpenDots One. You won't regret it, it's far better in sound quality and comfort compared to the C40i. I'm speaking from experience of owning C40i, Aeroclip and Bose Ultra Open. Only problem with these buds is that is not easily accessible, if you can find one, it's as good as it gets for open ear clip on buds. Currently, I rotate these with my Buds3 Pro.

I would say they are most secure compare to my in-ear earbud (Buds3 Pro) and semi in ear (Buds Live). I am confident to ride (road bike) or run in them. I would rate Opendots One slightly more secure the Bose Ultra Open, that said, our experience may vary as ear shapes are different. Control wise, you can only double tap or press and hold the barrel, but you can change the controls to your liking through the app. Left and right side can perform individual actions.

I’ve been using the openfit air for workouts, yeah it did fine, just didn’t last long. After checking out the bose open ultra, I ended up trying the opendots this year thanks to a friend’s rec. No regrets so far. Sound quality: dots sound noticeably better than fit air. The bass is stronger, and overall sound feels more immersive and clear. Battery life: The dots last about 50% longer than air. I used to charge every day, now every 2–3 days. Plus, it has fast and wireless charging, which is really nice. Design: The charging case is smaller and feels smooth in hand. The only thing is I have to clean it more often since my ears get oily and the silicone case inside shows marks easily. A quick wipe with a cotton swab fixes it though.

As a long-term Huawei FreeClip user, I just got the brand-new Shokz OpenDots ONE which was released in China around three days ago. It's still early days but they already win in the fit/comfort and sound departments. I didn't bother trying the Bose Ultra Open after reading about its poor call quality and other issues but the FreeClip really have one of the best mic pickup quality even in outdoors & windy situations. I only tried the OpenDots ONE for a couple of calls and they seem fine but I will need to test them more. The Shokz are the first in this type of form factor to have Dolby Audio which work surprisingly well. At the default profile they have fuller bass and surprisingly airy treble which I haven't experience in these type of open-air products. So far the downsides are: 1) Touch controls are reliable and include a two-finger pinch and hold which works well for adjusting volume but you can't skip tracks as of now, I hope future firmware updates will bring more touch controls. 2) There's no low-latency gaming mode. 3) Their MSRP here in China is slightly higher than the Huawei FreeClip although I could buy them for 15% off after some kind of government subsidy intended to boost consumer spending.

Well after using the Shokz OpenDots ONE as a daily driver and bringing them with me for a five-day trip, I've overall been quite satisfied with their performance. I think they definitely fit better than the Huawei FreeClip with almost no wiggle room to move around once they're in position. I've worn them for almost a half day without feeling uncomfortable. I believe their mic pickup in noisy conditions is very, very good. Not only they worked well in my phone call tests, they were surprisingly good in the Duolingo app, with the app being able to recognize most of the words when I tried to speak in a crowded location. There has already been one firmware update since I got them although no new features were added. I think at this point I can probably sell the Huawei FreeClip and keep the Shokz for all my use cases that need an open air type, which can now include watching movies and TV shows with added support of Dolby audio.

It's not that the FreeClip could fall off, they don't and I've used them in workout sessions. It's just that they are overall larger than the Shokz OpenDots ONE and have a bit more wiggle room to be moved around or adjusted when wearing them. With the Shokz I can very easily just put them on and feel that I don't need to adjust their positions at all. If you can buy other Shokz models I am quite sure the OpenDots ONE will be available soon, perhaps around the same time as the US and the rest of Europe. I've already sold the FreeClip and feel quite satisfied with the Shokz being the replacement. They fit better, sound better and have at least same level of mic pickup for calls, if not slightly better.

I own the Shokz OpenFit 2's and they are great/lightweight and sound good, but I was gifted the Shokz OpenDots One and they are my new favorites for every day use... taking calls, listening to audio-books/music. They are comfortable, and it took me a while to get used to the touch controls, but I understand them now and really like these.

I got gifted a set of Shokz OpenDots One... LOVE them... Split between my personal iPhone 16 and my work Pixel 9. Sound great, comfortable and seamless switching. They do not have ANC if that is a dealbreaker. I also have the Pixel Buds Pro 2 and you can do multipoint, but I have not tried it.

I have a Pixel and an iPhone... I got earbuds everywhere. I have the AirPods Pro 2, AirPods 4 ANC, Google Pixel Buds Pro 2, and a number of Shokz products (OpenRun Pro 2, OpenFit 2, and was just gifted the OpenDots One). I use the Shokz OpenRun Pro 2's when I am cycling. On the iPhone, I prefer the AirPods 4 ANC over the Pro2's. They fit me better and sound just fine. But I am quite fond of the OpenDots One. They sound amazing to my ears.

Ranking based on what I think are the most important segments to make a good purchase decision. Sound: Rank 1 - Shokz open dots one - great clarity , bass same as bose Rank 2 - Bose open ultra - great sound , best bass Rank 3 - Soundcore aero clip - good sound, clear . Bass is good but shokz and bose have better sub bass Rank 4- soundcore aero fit 2- it's ok. Bass is good but is muddy and clarity not as good as the rest Call quality: Rank 1 - TIE - Shokz open dots one and soundcore aero clips Rank 2 - soundcore aero fit 2 Rank 3 - bose ultra open, the other person on the call can hardly hear me Comfort: (all are good for exercise) Rank 1 - TIE - Shokz open dots one and bose ultra open, they are good for all day wear Rank 2 - soundcore aero clip- pinches after 2 hours of wear Rank 3 - aero fit 2- they are hook style and are heavier so not a favor comparison Value for money: Rank 1 - TIE - Shokz open dots one($199) and soundcore aero clips ($169) - I would say that extra 30$ gives you better sound on shokz Rank 2 - soundcore aero fit 2($129) Rank 3 - Bose ultra open. They have the best bass and great sound for an open ear bud but do not justify 299$ asking price. You would rather save 100$ and get shokz Final ranking combining all: Rank 1 - Shokz open dots one - great sound, great call quality, great comfort and good pricing. Rank 2 - Soundcore aero clip - good sound, geart call quality, a little.over priced but is still affordable Rank 3 - soundcore aero fit - ok sound, ok Comfort, ok call quality Rank 4- Bose ultra open - great sound , good comfort , poor quality, very very very expensive.

Battery has been astounding for me. I have been putting them on in the morning at 7 and wearing them all day at work. Sometimes depending on how much I use them they give me a 20% warning around 5 but taking just one out and zapping it for 15 min in the case and then the other gives me a full charge till I'm done for the day.

The best open earbuds clip style in my opinion is still the Huawei freeclips. I own the Huawei, the shocks open dots  in addition to the Bose open ultra and the soundcore clip style buds.  Here is my honest opinion.  If you care about music listening and battery life then the shocks are the best in that category followed by the Bose.  If you care about call quality and noise cancelling during calls then Huawei is the the way and only way to go followed by the shockz  And stay away and I mean awayyyy from the Bose they are the worst sounding call headphones ive used since the $10 Chinese ones I bought from a family dollar 20 years ago.  If you want a balance music and calls get the shockz Best overall for calls, good music quality, decent battery life even though I would have loved for it to be longer but the good news is the buds are left right swappable so I usually wear one and have one in the case charging ready to go. That would be the Huawei freeclips.  Again Bose are trash no matter what anyone would say to defend them! You can't put these type of mics in a $300 pair of earbuds that's just bananas.  I hope this helps someone as I spent money on all 4 and tested them extensively even through software updates.

I have both and nothing comes close to the Huawei free clips in terms of call quality! The opendots are great for music and much better battery life than the Huawei but mic quality for calls is mileeeees ahead on the Huawei. I was disappointed in that

I'm trying out both the Bose and Shokz. Out of the box, the Bose are clearly better tuned. The shokz are pretty bass and muddy in that range. I prefer a neutral sound and good soundstage and the Bose do a better job. But other than that so far the shokz are a better value in every other category

These are way more comfortable than my Bose Open Ultra. Bose sound is slightly better (when positioned right) but the Opendots just fit right with no need to readjust to get optimal sound quality...and the quality is very good also. I don't worry about them falling out at all as they are very secure. My biggest complaint was touch controls, but the latest update added additional triple touch controls for next/previous track. With that, these are now my favorite open ear buds.

I cannot even begin to explain how good the shokz open earbuds are. They specialize in open ear technology. Any products you try from them will blow your socks off. I just bought the new shokz opendots one that came out a week ago and they are incredible. Look up reviews on them it's not just me praising them everyone else agrees these are now the best open earbuds in the market by far compared to any other brand. Total game changer. I also used to have the same mentality which was that there's no way open earbuds can sound good there's no bass and all the sounds leaks out. I was completely wrong. I can't even describe it, you have to try them for yourself. I'd highly recommend either the opendots one or the open fit 2 from shokz. Other brands that are on par with the open ear technology are bose with the open ear ultra and sound core has several options aswell though I haven't tried those but the consensus I get is that they are also top of the line when it comes to open ear buds. It's a whole new world lol.

I just wanted to thank you for your review. I originally bought the Bose Ultra Opens and enjoyed them except for the way the hard plastic parts caused pretty substantial ear discomfort for my exceptionally large ears. After reading your review, I decided to exchange them for the Shokz OpenDots and I couldn't be happier. The sound is for me, better than the Bose (likely due to the increased flexibility to get properly inserted in my ears, they are far more comfortable, and they have wireless charging for the case. All that for $50 cheaper (I got the Bose on sale). The only downside is that I think the mics, though louder than the Bose, may be a little worse on the noise cancelling. Thank you!

Just wanted to chime in, I have the Shokz OpenDots, Bose Ultra Open, Huawei Freeclip, Soundcore Aeroclip, sound quality wise Shokz>Bose>Soundcore>Huawei for me and Mic quality Soundcore>Huawei>Shokz>Bose. I tend to grab the shokz more often because of the sound quality, my only gripe with it is the more you use it the more you kind of flex it more i.g my left side is springing more upwards than my right life when you have the buds charging in the case

If call quality is priority, shockz is very very good and it has decent music quality. My requirement is to use in office meetings so decided to keep shockz model. After using airpods pro and technics az80 for so many years, these open earbuds are very comfortable for long office meetings. Now I use other regular earbuds outside office.

I’ve also tried a ton of open style earbuds with a major preference for ear clip/cuff style earbuds as they feel the most comfortable, it doesn’t interfere with my glasses over my ear and I’m not jamming anything into my ear. The OpenDots One are also my most favorite. Got two pairs. My biggest wish would be low latency and/or LE audio/auracast support.

Because they don’t fall out of your ears and they don’t go in or cover your ears so you can hear your surroundings (for example the car that is texting while driving and about to run you over from behind). Another advantage is you don’t hear your feet pounding the ground like you do with earbuds. They don’t have a high IPX rating but survive rain, humidity and massive amounts of sweat much better than headphones with way higher IPX ratings. They also come with a no questions asked 2 year warranty.

Shockz are on sale for 74.99 right now at Costco. I bought a pair last weekend at Costco and have worn them every day since on my runs and I love them. Obviously, they are not as good as having an earbud directly in your ear, but there’s some guy running around my city grabbing women on the butt while they run so I’d rather be safe and be able to hear someone run up on me.

They do not go on or in your ears so no, but if you can't hear the wind you likely also cannot hear the cars around you. I have not had difficulty listening to podcasts or music over the wind while cycling, but sometimes I'll put a headband over my ears when it's getting a bit chilly and that cuts out the wind.

Shokz open ear/over ear. Not a fan of the bone conduction version because I hate having a strap behind my head. Like many others, I used to just wear my AirPods and get in the zone. Unfortunately had a dog sneak up on me once and then was almost hit by a car I didn’t hear coming that blew past a stop sign. Prefer to be alive and in one piece so the “lower quality” sound isn’t an issue. Plus I still think they perform really well.
