I got the Tozo OpenEgo and I am really liking them. 63 CAD on amazon. 16.2 mm driver and it uses air conduction. App has an equalizer which you can customize. The driver has plenty of force so nothing gets clipped. If you have ever listened to something that has painful audio at some point (such as the first second of summer night city by abba or the air that I breathe by the hollies), once you get these all of the unpleasantness goes away and you can clearly hear a piano glissando and symbol roll. You can tell what audio recordings are high quality and which are trash with these (im gonna have to re rip my mp3s :( ). Overall I am very happy with these. I have no experience with the other brands people have listed here.
I use Tazo Open Ego. They go over the ear and not into the ear canal. In earbuds cause my ears to itch and drain fluid even after only a short while. The ones like mine aren't noise canceling, and some in the ear have better sound. The built-in microphone works great, and the contol surfaces on the outside are very useful. When I use them, I mostly use just 1 so I can hear what's going on around me (I'm usually walking). I listen to more spoken word than music, and that's very clear. They are fine for the types of music. I listen to older country and western, bluegrass, blues, crooners, Motown, and the 60s music. I don't crank up the volume but having used in the earbuds like Bose tye Tazzo Open Egos can't get as loud. That's not important to me.
I use Tazo Open Ego because the silicone in the covers cause my ears to itch. I had a different Tazzo set a while ago. Both worked great. I mostly listen to audio books rather than music but for the music I listen to at moderate volume they work fine. Clear, decent frequency response and bass. If I had perfect pitch and younger ears it might make a difference on things like opera. I listen to 50-60's country, Bluegrass, crooners like Sinatra, Motown, 40s big band and music from groups like Heilung and Danheim (proto viking). If you've never seen Heilung watch Lifa on YouTube it's amazing
I haven't tried any of those, but I'm really content with my Tozos. The O2 Open Ear, EarRings, and the new OpenWear are my go to's. Surprising bass and clarity for being open style and the price is unbeatable.

I’m gonna say something controversial. After trying the Shockz 1 and thinking they weren’t loud enough and then again trying the 2s and having the same issue. I have given up on them. I honestly just bought two cheap pairs of Tozo open ear headphones from Amazon and I love them. They are incredibly comfortable, and quite a bit louder. The louder volume was specially useful for those of you that are into podcasts. Or if part of your run is down bus streets. You can still hear everything outside of you very well but having the option to higher volume is great. I’ve used these for several 50ks and 100ks. Hope this helps!
For the gym, I like something basic that I don't care if it dies from sweat and other abuse. To that end, I got the tozo open ear and tozo t6. T6 to block out sound and open ear when outside and I want to hear cars and stuff. Both of these are in the 20 to 30 dollar range.
I love my Tozo Open Ears! I also have the Huawei Free Clip and the Soundcore C30i Clip, but the Tozos are my go to. They are so comfortable that I forget I am wearing them and they have a great battery life. No wireless charging, but they don‘t need to be charged very often!
i have the tozo open earrings and they are great black friday bargain on amazon for only $24. it's an exellent intro to open earbuds and perfect for podcasts or connecting to your tv. i did want better sound however and bought the bose ultra earbuds on sale but could not get them to play loudly enough so i returned them. i then bought the soundcore aeroclips ($99 during black friday) and that is, for me, the sweet spot so far. they sound very good, long battery life, can be eq'd thru the app, supports ldac, and easy to connect. i also use it for phone calls and haven't had any complaints. the soundcore c50i is currently $49 and well-reviewed and may be just what you're looking for. i can also recommend the earfun open clip for the same price as the c50is. it too has good sound for the price and plays plenty loud for my needs (podcasts, tv/pc/ tablet listening).
I have the same issue! I found open ear headphones the best for me. I tried airpods this week and they're not bad but I have a Samsung phone so most features dont work (thats a whole nother thing) The only one that isnt open ear that I can use is an ankor soundcore a30i. I found then on tiktok shop for $9! But theyre typically more like 25ish. Tozo open ear and jlab open ear both works good for me and were under $50.
